As part of the Management
one of the challenging tasks is how to maintain sustainable growth. Most of the
organizations start somewhere small with few strong pillars (Founding Team). Due to strong founding team we see good
success and at the same time rapid growth. Once we taste success, yes, we want
to grow and this is where our challenges start. Founding Team are not computers or robots to
scale or to upgrade to latest version and make them efficiently handle more
work. They are all humans and have limits to handle, but these limits shouldn't
hamper growth. To sustain growth, Management should adopt new techniques. They
have to implement “Business Processes”
and hand over control down the ladder with appropriate checks and balances.
This way the organization can scale to any level yet sustain growth. Having, business process in place, our
organization has graduated and moved from people oriented to process Oriented. Are we OK now?
Oh! No, here comes more challenges
and bunch of unanswered question like, how efficient our sub-ordinates are, how
committed are they to the organization, can we count on them forever, how to
retain them, are they satisfied overall and so on… Irrespective of the best you
provide to the team, it’s inevitable to part with. Here comes the next stage of
maturity, automation of the business process where in the dependency on
resources is reduced, so let us computerize and automate the process. Of course
there is cost involved but worth investing for, on a long run. Once we automated the processes, can we run
the show with less experience people? Well no, automation doesn't mean to
replace wise heads. Automation means allowing us to assign menial & laborious
work to less experience people and let our expert’s most valuable time be stay
focus on core business and contributes more towards the growth. Does automation
ends the plights of the management? Again No, to sustain growth management has
more challenges, in this world of dynamic business environment, management
should continuously analyse the business, identify the trends and rapidly evolve
and retrofit their business model to retain their growth and margins. To analyse business we need to have volume of
data at our disposal which can be analysed from various angles, at macro level
and if required should be sliced and diced for micro level analysis. IT honchos
often introduces new software technologies like ERP, Business Intelligence, Data
Mining, Big Data, Data Scientist bla... bla... bla… these all will definitely
help towards sustainable growth of Multi National Companies who can afford,
since it cost them not even a fraction of their turnover. But, what about the
Small, Mid and Emerging (SME ) organizations, there are tons of them who would
like to step forward to automate their business process and leverage business analysis, but scared due to the
cost of ownership. Which may eat up majority of their margin? However, if you shop
around you will definitely find a computer application which balances out
automation of process and also has tools to leverage your business analysis. Just like SME Organization in HVAC, there are tons
of SME Organization in IT sector who are involved in developing out of box
innovative application which satisfies most of our business requirements. Judiciously join hand with companies which
have an application ready for your business and build a strategic partner
relationship with them and mutually benefit towards sustainable growth. In my
next article lets us talk about how Material Management plays a vital role in
sustainable growth, until then good bye.
