Hinchey, Ph.D, LPC, LMFT, LPC-S & Katie Poe, M.Ed., LPC This presentation qualifies for one (1) NBCC CE Hour  Session Description:Family Counseling doesn't have to be scary! Attendees will review and discuss how tricky topics such as family secrets, grief, and intergenerational trauma show up in session by reviewing themes from popular horror films and applying systemic theories. Presenters will guide attendees through a “haunted house” of clinical interventions and techniques for working with families across varying clinical settings. Learning Objectives: 1. Identify systemic presenting problems in family counseling 2. Apply Systemic, Structural, Emotion-Focused, and Bowenian Theory Approaches to common family counseling topics 3. Dr. Hinchey received her M.Ed. in Marriage and Family Therapy and Ph.D. in Counselor Education from William & Mary. She holds her LPC and LMFT in Virginia. In addition to her eight years of experience in the counseling field, Hinchey conducts research on family therapy, counselor development and equity in counseling access. She served as the student director of the Flanagan Counselor Education Clinic at William & Mary and as a program director, supervisor and clinician for Functional Family Therapy in the Richmond metro area. Her research interests include social comparison, family counselor development, diminishing barriers to counseling services, and scale development. Her house is definitely NOT haunted. Katie Poe: Katie holds an LPC and has nearly 10 years of experience providing counseling services to children, adolescents, and families in the central Virginia region. In particular, Katie enjoys providing DBT-focused treatment to adolescents who are struggling with chronic emotional distress and suicidal ideation. Katie also believes in the healing power of appropriately timed humor and sarcasm to assist difficult teenagers in uncovering their unhelpful patterns and increasing their motivation to change. Cancellation Policy  
To receive a full refund, minus a $25 cancellation fee, registrants must cancel no later than November 1, 2025. Cancellations after November 1, 2025 or no shows will be reviewed after all expenses have been paid, a determination will be made regarding the ability to honor the request minus cost of guaranteed meals/special events. An administrative fee of $50.00 will be assessed for any refund requests after November 1, 2025. <description><![CDATA[Exhibitor Invitation Virginia Counselors Association VCA Annual Convention Marriott Norfolk Waterside November 13-14, 2025   Exhibitor Schedule Setup:                Wednesday, November 12, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm or                                     Thursday, November 13, 7:00 am – 8:00 am Removal by:     Friday, November 14, by 8:00 pm Exhibit Hours: Thursday, November 13: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm                                      Friday, November 14:  8:00 am – 5:00 pm ASSOCIATION Event Profile: The Virginia Counselors Association (VCA) is a professional non-profit organization serving nearly 1,500 counselors, counselor educators and supervisors in a variety of work settings including schools, community agencies, colleges and universities, as well as private practitioners. The VCA Convention is held annually with attendance from 500 – 600.   Availability: Exhibitor applications are accepted on first-come, first serve basis. Applications will be accepted based on space available.   Exhibitor Opportunities:  One (1) 6 ft. skirted table, draped and covered . . . . . . . . . .$600 Agreement Terms and Conditions: Full payment must accompany this application. All exhibit space is subject to availability on a first-come, first-serve basis. Exhibitor requests for space assignments are given consideration but are made at the discretion of the Virginia Counselors Association (VCA). VCA reserves the right to not accept any exhibitor application without written explanation. Written confirmation will be e-mailed to exhibitors upon VCA’s receipt of a signed agreement and payment. Written notice must be sent in the event of a cancellation to the VCA office as noted below by November 1, 2025, after which no refunds will be granted. Any refunds are subject to a $50.00 service charge. All exhibits are subject to hotel policies for shipping, safety regulations, and electrical requests. Arrangements and payment for any technology or electrical needs are the responsibility of the exhibitor. The exhibitor assumes the entire responsibility and liability for losses, damages, and claims arising out of exhibitor’s activities on the hotel premises and will indemnify, defend and hold harmless the hotel, the VCA, their agents, servants and employees from any and all such losses, damages and claims. Exhibits may be set-up after 6:00 p.m. on November 12, 2025 and all exhibits shall be removed by 8:00 p.m. on November 14, 2025.   Exhibitor assumes the entire responsibility and liability for losses, damages, and claims, including without limitation, bodily injury and death, arising out of exhibitor’s activities on the Hotel’s premises (together “Liabilities”). Exhibitor covenants not to sue and agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Hotel, and its parent corporation, as well as their respective trustees, directors & officers, agents, servants, and employees from any and all such Liabilities. The Hampton Roads Convention Center is a third party beneficiary of this indemnification.

This important advocacy event begins in the <a href="https://virginiageneralassembly.gov/virginiaStateCapitol.php?secid=7&activesec=1#!hb=1&mainContentTabs=5&content=5,includes/contentTemplate.php%3Ftid%3D94%26ctype%3Db%26cid%3D159" style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">General Assembly Building</a>, Subcommittee Room 10, with a briefing about current legislative activities and “how to advocate effectively” by VCA’s Lobbyist, Debra Rodman.  Prior to your attendance, please make an appointment to meet with your legislators (delegate and state senator).
