The Virginia Counselors Association is calling for professional presentation proposals for its Annual Convention, which will be held November 14-16, 2024, at the Hampton Convention Center & Embassy Suites.  VCA will uphold NBCC requirements to ensure that continuing education credits earned during the convention are of the highest quality. General Information 
The VCA convention is an annual professional development opportunity for counselors who work in a variety of settings. The goal of the convention is to offer a diverse selection of programs for both new and experienced counselors. We are particularly interested in programs that address collaboration among a variety of interests or practice areas (i.e.: school counselors and private practitioners). The convention draws counselors from across the state of Virginia and offers exhibits representing a wide variety of educational programs and products.
 
Sessions 
VCA will be offering morning and afternoon sessions on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (November14, 15 & 16), one hour in length. According to VCA policy, each VCA division is guaranteed a minimum number of three (3) interest sessions, if deadlines and acceptance criteria are met. Availability of Presenters
Program presenters agree to present their selected program(s) at any time and on any day of the convention as described above. Scheduling is determined by the Program Committee.
 
Audio-Visual Equipment 
VCA does not provide laptops, microphones or speakers. 
Program Proposal Submission
Proposals for 2024 must be submitted on-line and require the following information:

Conference Policies 
ü  ALL PRESENTERS AND CO-PRESENTERS MUST REGISTER FOR THE CONVENTION! 
ü  VCA members agree to volunteer their services to the program without reimbursement for travel expenses, registration fees, or honoraria.
ü  The Lead presenter will receive all communication(s) from VCA. 
ü  There may be no more than four (4) presenters per program. (1 lead presenter & 3 co-presenters)
ü  Individuals may not be included on more than two (2) presentation proposals.
ü  Program presenters agree to present their selected program(s) at any time, on any day of the convention as described above.  Scheduling is determined by the Program Committee.
ü Graduate level students may not be listed as the lead presenter; however, can be listed as a co-presenter.  (Graduate students can be the lead presenter for poster & regular sessions or if they have already graduated with their Masters in a counseling related field at the time of submission.)

Presented by:  Dr. LaConda FanningLive Virtual WebinarThis event qualifies for 8 NBCC Continuing Education Hours (includes 2 hours ethics) Mental Health Counselors are defined as follows:
•        Counsels with emphasis on prevention. Works with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental and emotional health. May help individuals deal with issues associated with addictions and substance abuse; family, parenting, and marital problems; stress management; self-esteem; and aging.  Excludes "Social Workers" (21-1021 through 21-1029), "Psychiatrists" (29-1066), and "Psychologists" (19-3031 through 19-3039). (The United States Department of Labor, The Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wages, May 2016, 21-2021 Mental Health Counselors).
•        The term “Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP)” refers to a person who, by education and experience, is professionally qualified and registered by the board to provide collaborative mental health services for adults or children. (Virginia Department of Health Professions, 2017)
 
As a QMHP, you are a significant part of care delivery by providing collaborative mental health care to adults and/or children.  In an effort to provide systematic support, the QMHP training will cover the S.C.O.P.E. framework:

We offer the S.C.O.P.E. framework as a structured way to capture the essential tenets of training and development. 
 QMHP Training includes:
The comprehensive one-day training will provide QMHPs with 8 continuing education hours. Participants attending the workshop in its entirety will receive a Verification Form documenting 8 Continuing Education Hours (includes 2 hours of ethics training).

Presenter Bio:LaConda G. Ambrose Fanning, Psy.D., LPC, RN is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, and Registered Nurse. She holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Regent University. Dr. Fanning currently serves with the Eastern Virginia Medical School’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) Team as the Director of the Mentorship and Assessment program. The Early Assessment and Mentorship program offers a unique support structure to medical residents. Dr. Fanning serves as the Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the Graduate Medical Education Office where she spearheads DEI Initiatives in collaboration with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Office of Health Equity. In her continued pursuit of scholarship, Dr. Fanning has a special interest in health disparities, religious coping, and the generational effects of trauma. The three-day webinar training will provide LPCs and LMFTs the 20 hours required to supervise LPC residents.  Participants attending the workshop in its entirety will receive a Verification Form documenting *20 NBCC Contact Hours (includes 3 hours ethics), fulfilling the Virginia LPC supervision requirements.
*The 20 NBCC Contact Hours may also be used for re-licensure - Virginia Board of Counseling

;">Dr. Ularisi Green-Baker has been working in behavioral health for 10 years. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in VA and is the owner of Live to Never Regret Counseling and Consultation, PLLC. She is also an Employee Assistance Program Specialist (EAP) at Reach EAP providing work-life wellness for employers and employees via remote and face-to-face platforms. Dr. Green-Baker offers tele-mental health services and assessments to individuals, couples and families in the community. For over 10 years, Dr. Green-Baker has taught Master’s level clinical mental health counseling at private, for-profit and public graduate schools. She also taught student development courses on the community college level. Dr. Green-Baker received her doctorate in Counseling Education and Supervision from Old Dominion University, her master’s from Regent University in Community Counseling, and her bachelor’s in Psychology from Norfolk State University. She is a member of New Beginnings Outreach, Inc. and been a part of national and international evangelist ministries for over 20 years.Susan Owen Dye, PhD is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) and both a Virginia Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Provider.  She received her doctorate in Counselor Supervision and Education form the University of Virginia and has worked as a Virginia resident in counseling supervisor for over 20 years.  Her clinical supervision experiences include outpatient, inpatient and residential treatment.  She currently is a full time faculty member at South University in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program where she also oversees all field placements.  She also works part-time in a private practice in Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Counselors Association (VCA) is a professional organization serving nearly 1,500 counselors, counselor educators and supervisors in a variety of work settings including schools, community agencies, colleges and universities, as well as private practitioners. <description><![CDATA[Exhibitor Invitation Virginia Counselors Association VCA Annual Convention Hampton Roads Convention Center November 14-15, 2024   Exhibitor Schedule Setup:                Wednesday, November 13, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm or                                     Thursday, November 14, 7:00 am – 8:00 am Removal by:     Friday, November 15, by 8:00 pm Exhibit Hours: Thursday, November 14: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm                                      Friday, November 15:  8:00 am – 5:00 pm ASSOCIATION Event Profile: The Virginia Counselors Association (VCA) is a professional non-profit organization serving nearly 1,500 counselors, counselor educators and supervisors in a variety of work settings including schools, community agencies, colleges and universities, as well as private practitioners. The VCA Convention is held annually with attendance from 500 – 600.   Availability: Exhibitor applications are accepted on first-come, first serve basis. Applications will be accepted based on space available.   Exhibitor Opportunities:  One (1) 6 ft. skirted table, draped and covered . . . . . . . . . .$600 Two (2) 6 ft. skirted table, draped and covered . . . . . . . . . .$800 Premium location with up to four tables . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $950 Agreement Terms and Conditions: Full payment must accompany this application. All exhibit space is subject to availability on a first-come, first-serve basis. Exhibitor requests for space assignments are given consideration but are made at the discretion of the Virginia Counselors Association (VCA). VCA reserves the right to not accept any exhibitor application without written explanation. Written confirmation will be e-mailed to exhibitors upon VCA’s receipt of a signed agreement and payment. Written notice must be sent in the event of a cancellation to the VCA office as noted below by October 30, 2024, after which no refunds will be granted. Any refunds are subject to a $50.00 service charge. All exhibits are subject to hotel policies for shipping, safety regulations, and electrical requests. Arrangements and payment for any technology or electrical needs are the responsibility of the exhibitor. The exhibitor assumes the entire responsibility and liability for losses, damages, and claims arising out of exhibitor’s activities on the hotel premises and will indemnify, defend and hold harmless the hotel, the VCA, their agents, servants and employees from any and all such losses, damages and claims. Exhibits may be set-up after 6:00 p.m. on November 13, 2024 and all exhibits shall be removed by 8:00 p.m. on November 15, 2024.   Exhibitor assumes the entire responsibility and liability for losses, damages, and claims, including without limitation, bodily injury and death, arising out of exhibitor’s activities on the Hotel’s premises (together “Liabilities”). Exhibitor covenants not to sue and agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Hotel, and its parent corporation, as well as their respective trustees, directors & officers, agents, servants, and employees from any and all such Liabilities. The Hampton Roads Convention Center is a third party beneficiary of this indemnification.
