On Thursday, the pop diva shared a short, eerie teaser of a new song called “House” featuring The Velvet Underground’s John Cale, set to be featured in Wuthering Heights. The song’s out Monday.

On Instagram, Charli called it “the first offering from my album for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights.” She also shared a longer statement on social media, saying she felt “immediately” inspired to start making music for the film.

“After being so in the depths of my previous album, I was excited to escape into something entirely new, entirely opposite,” she wrote. “When I think of Wuthering Heights, I think of many things. I think of passion and pain. I think of England. I think of the Moors, I think of the mud and the cold. I think of determination and grit.”

The video teaser Chrli shared features eerie, horror film–like sound effects and the haunting sound of violins as Charli is pinned down by an elderly hand while staring directly into the camera. “Can I speak to you privately for a moment?” an ominous voice asks, as a raven-like bird flashes on screen.

In her post about the song, she called herself a “huge fan” of the Velvet Underground and recalled a quote from Cale in the band’s documentary, when he said, “any song had to be both ‘elegant and brutal.’”

Charli wrote: “I got really stuck on that phrase. I wrote it down in my notes app and would pull it up from time to time and think about what he meant.” The phrase came up as she made the music for this film, and so she decided to reach out to him for his opinion and they ended up collaborating.

“That voice, so elegant, so brutal. I sent him some songs, and we started talking specifically about House. We spoke about the idea of a poem. He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do. And it was… well, it made me cry,” she wrote. “I feel so lucky to have been able to work with John onn this song. I’ve been so exited to share it with you all, sitting quietly in anticipation.”

Fennell (who directed Saltburn) is directing the new Wuthering Heights, adapted from Emily Brontë’s 1847 love story. Charli is writing songs for the film and will release an accompanying album for it. The film will star Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi and is set to premiere on Valentine’s Day.

Trending Stories

The film’s trailer was shared in early September with Robbie as Catherine and Elordi as Heathcliff; the pair are captured amid brooding stares and heaving chests while Charli XCX‘s Brat track “Everything Is Romantic” plays.

2026 is set to be filled with new film projects for the popstar, who, along with starring and creating The Moment, she’ll also be in The Gallerist with Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega.

The post Charli XCX Teases Eerie New Song ‘House’ With John Cale for ‘Wuthering Heights’ appeared first on Music Times.

Gunna Announces More Wun World Tour Shows & Wunna Run Club 5K Race Events Across North America

music-times.net

News

Featured

genre hiphop

Music News

Touring

Gunna’s upcoming tour is turning into a marathon. It will hit the big screen on April 24, 2026.

Antoine Fuqua, the filmmaker behind Training Day and The Equalizer, will direct Michael, while John Logan (Gladiator, Skyfall) serves as screenwriter. Nia Long (Empire, Boyz n the Hood) will play Jackson’s mother Katherine, while Miles Teller will portray John Branca, the lawyer and manager who is the co-executor of the Jackson estate and a producer on the film.

The trailer sees Jackson in the studio with Quincy Jones as they prepare to lay down a take of a song apparently from the ‘Thriller’ era, interspersed with glimpses of him on stage and dealing with the adulation of fans. Watch here:

The official synopsis reads: “Michael explores the global superstar’s journey to become known to the world as the King Of Pop, presenting an intimate look at the life and enduring legacy of one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known”.

It arrives 17 years after Jackson’s death on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50. The cause of death was acute propofol intoxication, while the Los Angeles County coroner ruled the death as a homicide, and Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray, was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the artist’s death.

The film has already attracted some criticism, including from Dan Reed, the director of the documentary Leaving Neverland, which documented allegations of sexual abuse against Michael. Reed criticised the making of the new biopic, saying it “will glorify a man who raped children”.

Reed later said he had read a draft of the script in which the men who made the allegations in Leaving Neverland were discredited. “Jackson is only ever seen caring for children with childhood cancer, or dancing with a little girl in a wheelchair, or tucking up multiple little boys, mostly his nephews, at sleepovers,” Reed said of the script. “It feels like the creators of the movie have been stuck in a room with John Branca and just told what to write.”

Reports emerged at the start of this year that the film had been delayed after they were forced to reshoot the third act due to its unsanctioned portrayal of the Jordan Chandler case.

Domingo has defended the project, saying that “everyone has a story to tell”. He said the film will look at the “complex human being” behind the star.

Elsewhere, the BBC recently revealed that it had ordered a new documentary charting the abuse allegations against Jackson, with the working title Legacy: Michael Jackson. The three-part series will explore “the abuse allegations and enduring legacy of one of the most successful pop stars of all time”.

The post First trailer released for the Michael Jackson biopic: ‘MICHAEL’ appeared first on Music Times.

Keith Richards and (Many) Friends Salute Bruce Willis at NYC Charity Show

music-times.net

Features

Featured

Keith Richards

Mavis Staples

Norah Jones

In a performance space that felt more like an extended living room than a club, Keith Richards surveyed the crowd and flashed a sly smile. “So I have to follow Mavis Staples,” he said of his unenviable position. Then, like Staples, Norah Jones, and Warren Hayes, he proceeded to rock the latest edition of New York’s Soho Sessions shows anyway.

A private live music event in that part of Manhattan, the Soho Sessions has become one of New York’s must-see events for the 150 or so fortunate to snag a ticket to each of its roughly 10-times-a-year shows. The fifth-floor loft space itself has an illustrious history: Once upon a rhyme, it was home to Chung King Studios, where classic old-school hip-hop albums by Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, and Run-DMC were recorded.

But since it launched in 2021, the Soho Sessions gigs have presented intimate performances by legends (Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, Nile Rodgers and Chic, Taj Mahal, Steve Earle) and comparative newcomers (Marcus King, Yola, Maren Morris, Lukas Nelson). Each show is also designed to bring awareness to a particular cause: Befitting an issue close to him, last year’s Simon set, which was attended by the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Jackson Browne, and Whoopi Goldberg, benefited the Stanford Initiative to Cure Hearing Loss.

In honor of Bruce Willis, who’s been battling frontotemporal dementia for two years, last night’s Soho Sessions aimed to raise awareness of (and funds for) the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), the organization leading research into the incurable condition. To an audience dotted with fellow actors — Kevin Bacon, Michael J. Fox, Kyra Sedgwick, Steve Guttenberg, and Willis’ ex, Demi Moore — Willis’ wife Emma said her husband was “here in spirit” and passed along one of his favorite sayings: “Can we please have some fun?”

Mavis Staples and Norah Jones performs at the Soho Sessions honoring Bruce Willis in New York on Wednesday.

Griffin Lotz for Rolling Stone

Clasping an electric guitar, Jones dug into her early catalog for swaying versions of “Come Away with Me” and her version of Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan’s “Long Way Home.” With her band, Staples brought her trademark spunk and vocal grit to two Staple Singers songs — the gospel-imbued “City in the Sky” and their trademark “I’ll Take You There,” complete with a crowd call and response. “Norah, where are you?” she asked at one point, bringing Jones up for a duet on “You Are Not Alone,” the two of them holding hands as they sang.

Trending Stories

Editor’s picks

Warren Haynes performs at the Soho Sessions honoring Bruce Willis in New York on November 5th, 2025.

Griffin Lotz for Rolling Stone

“Bruce and I have been neighbors for many years,” Richards told the crowd during his set, fondly calling the two of them “beach bums.” But Richards were there to celebrate and romp as well. Backed by guitarist Larry Campbell, drummer Steve Jordan, bassist Joey Spampinato of NRBQ, and pianist Ivan Neville, Richards’ set was brief — only three songs — but made up for the brevity with a clanking, juke-joint-rocking performance. With Richards and Campbell trading guitar parts, the band opened with a slow-rolling version of Big Bill Broonzy’s blues standard “Key to the Highway,” leading into a version of the Stones’ Keith-led gem “You Got the Silver,” with Campbell on lap slide guitar. In a somewhat early nod to the upcoming holiday season, Richards — in a black cap and looking relaxed and at ease — took the band thorough a romping version of Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run,” with Campbell and Richards swapping solos. (Note to Richards: Please take this band on tour with you.)

As he acknowledged in the last set of the night, jam-band legend Warren Haynes was in a somewhat challenging position. “Keith said he had to follow Mavis, and I have to follow Keith,” he shrugged. But to a house that remained packed, Haynes gamely played B.B. King’s “The Thrill Is Gone,” his own anthemic “Soul Shine,” and a version of Blind Willie McTell’s “Statesboro Blues” that harked back to his tenure in the Allman Brothers Band. American roots music may not be a cure for ailments like the one impacting Willis, but the night proved that it could at least be a balm.

The post Keith Richards and (Many) Friends Salute Bruce Willis at NYC Charity Show appeared first on Music Times.

A New Documentary Shows Another Side of the Newport Folk Festival

music-times.net

News

Bob Dylan

Featured

Newport Folk Festival

The 2024 Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown introduced the history of the Newport Folk Festival to an entirely new generation of music fans. But recreations of the 1963, 1964, and 1965 festivals were shown almost entirely from the perspective of Bob Dylan, and the film stretched historical truth well past its breaking point in quite a few scenes.

The upcoming documentary film Newport & The Great Folk Dream will correct that by presenting the event as it actually went down between 1963 and 1966, utilizing never-before-seen footage and interviews with Joan Baez, Noel “Paul” Stookey, Jim Kweskin, Taj Mahal, Judy Collins, Joe Boyd, Peter Yarrow, Maria Muldaur, and many others. The film screens on Friday at the San Francisco International Film Festival, and you can check out the trailer right here.

Newport & The Great Folk Dream was directed by Robert Gordon, whose previous films include Muddy Waters: Can’t Be Satisfied, Johnny Cash’s America, and Shakespeare Was a Big George Jones Fan: ‘Cowboy’ Jack Clement’s Home Movies.

“The footage over these four years, 1963-1966, documents how fast changes occur,” Gordon says in a statement. “We’re living through radical change now, and we hope this movie inspires more music, more understanding, more courage. It was an honor to curate these artists — and a very difficult task. Bob Dylan goes electric, Phil Ochs leaps to the present, and Mississippi John Hurt makes time stand still. Pete Seeger and Peter, Paul & Mary evolve before our eyes. The film is rife with surprises — and unusual sounds.”

Much of the footage from the Newport Folk Festival was captured by filmmaker Murray Lerner, and it appeared in his pivotal 1967 documentary Festival. In 2007, Lerner created The Other Side of the Mirror: Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival. It was built around his archive of Dylan footage from the events.

Trending Stories

Newport & The Great Folk Dream takes a much broader look at the festival by showing footage of Judy Collins, Elizabeth Botton, John Lee Hooker, Peter, Paul & Mary, Dave Van Ronk, Pete Seeger, the Chambers Brothers, and many others. “At the Newport Folk Festival, people who would not ordinarily encounter each other had the chance to develop bonds,” Gordon says. “he festival was in the living folk tradition, elders sharing songs and technique, the youth innovating and pushing the envelope. Freedom songs rang out alongside work songs, a player on homemade pan pipes mesmerized listeners alongside the generation’s greatest future singer-songwriters. The timeliness — and timelessness — is astonishing.”

The Newport Folk Festival went on hiatus in 1969, but returned as an annual event in 1985. Ed, RAYE, Anne-Marie, Leigh-Anne – it’s banger after banger. Not only was the band back onstage after a seven-year hiatus — the longest break of their career by far — but they were barely visible inside a wall of video screens that surrounded their round stage in the center of the arena. It was immediately clear that this was going to be unlike any other Radiohead tour in their history, but there was little hint just how bold and unpredictable the show would become as it unfolded across opening night, and the radically different second gig the following evening. We were lucky enough to witness the two historic concerts, and we had quite a few thoughts along the way. Here are 10 big takeaways and questions we’re still thinking about.

They’ve never switched up the setlist like this.

Prior to the tour, bassist Colin Greenwood told fans that they’d rehearsed 70 different songs. “So we’ll play anything in any order, at any time,” he said. “We sort of take a busking attitude to the Radiohead setlist.” This is the kind of thing that bands often say before tours where they essentially play the same show night after night. But he wasn’t kidding. They played 25 songs on night one, and then played 14 different songs on night two, repeating only nine.

They don’t have a new album to support at the moment, which is giving them the opportunity to have fun as they journey through their past. At times it almost felt like watching a Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band show during the much-missed “Stump the Band” era of 2013/14, where anything felt possible at any moment, even if they weren’t about to pick up a sign from the audience and break into an unrehearsed “Wooly Bully.” We’ll see if they keep the setlists this loose as the tour goes on, but for now, it’s giving these shows an exciting, unpredictable energy.

The Bends 30th anniversary celebration is finally here.

Many Radiohead fans were a little disappointed when the 30th anniversary of The Bends came and went this past March without a deluxe reissue or any sort of acknowledgement. But they played a majestic “Fake Plastic Trees” on the first night, and then treated the crowd to “(Nice Dream),” “Planet Telex,” “Street Spirit (Fade Out), and “The Bends” on night two. “(Nice Dream)” sent shockwaves through the crowd, since they hadn’t played it since 2009.

Editor’s picks

The setlist listed “Just” as an alternative to “Planet Telex,” meaning odds are high it’ll surface very soon even though that song also hasn’t been touched since 2009. It’s also very possible we’ll hear “My Iron Lung” since that’s a live staple, but could we also get the first “High and Dry” since 1998? The first “Bones” since 2006? The first “Bullet Proof..I Wish I Was” since 2008? The first “Black Star” since 2006? Can we even dream of the first “Sulk” since 1995? Before this tour is done, all of that might indeed happen. (They might need to bring smelling salts to the floor to revive some fans if “Sulk” happens.)

Drummergeddon 2025 has hit Radiohead (sort of).

As our eyes adjusted to the in-the-round staging, we noticed a new fellow on a second drum kit who most certainly wasn’t longtime touring drummer Clive Deamer. (The first clue was that he had a full head of hair.) The mysterious figure wasn’t introduced, since virtually nothing was said onstage, but it turns out he’s Chris Vatalaro. He’s toured with Imogen Heap in the past and has also played with Antibalas, Elysian Fields, Richard Fairhurst, and many others. He’s never done anything as high-profile as this tour, but he worked seamlessly alongside Phil Selway, who’s been holding down the beat in this band for decades. We’ll miss the symmetry of two bald drummers playing at once, but are still happy to welcome Vatalaro into the Radiohead family.

The swap also means that Radiohead can now arguably be said to have joined the very long list of bands — including Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Guns N’ Roses, the Who, Oasis, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, and Primus — who parted ways with a drummer this year. Drummergeddon 2025 isn’t a myth. It’s real, and it’s spreading fast.

Related Content

The screens are a work in progress.

The screens gradually began lifting throughout opening night, but large chunks often remained down, and they moved continuously throughout the main set. Depending on your vantage point, the band was often semi-obstructed or blocked from view. And even when Thom Yorke was directly in front of you, dancing like a maniac during “Myxomatosis,” the vibe would be sometimes be dampened when a screen lowered right in front of him. (At one point, a woman in front of me texted a friend “I can’t see because of these screens. This is insanity!”) For the extended encore section on night one, the screens were finally completely raised. You could feel the crowd breathe a big sigh of relief since everyone could finally see the entire stage.

A quick scroll of the Radiohead subreddit after the show revealed that not all fans were thrilled with the staging. “Tear down the wall!” one fan wrote. “The people I know who were there were saying it was very hard to feel engaged when they were so removed from the performers.” This person wasn’t alone. “Sorry for being negs, but the cage that makes it almost impossible to see what’s going on stage,” wrote another, “and the video screens above it are so jittery and distorted like Max Headroom that you also can’t see what’s going on.”

The second show began in very similar fashion — but the screens came up about a third of the way through, and basically stayed up the rest of the night. We weren’t as “negs” about the situation on night one as some of the fans, but night two definitely worked better. Let’s hope they stick with that plan. The screens are very cool, but we want to see as much of the band as possible.

We’re on the verge of a complete OK Computer.

They played six OK Computer songs on night one: “Karma Police,” “Let Down,” “Lucky,” “No Surprises,” “Paranoid Android,” and “Subterranean Homesick Alien.” They repeated “Let Down” and “Paranoid Android” on night two, and added in “Airbag” and “Exit Music (For a Film).” That’s eight of the 12 tracks on the album, or really eight of the 11 since “Fitter Happier” isn’t really doable without a vintage Macintosh on lead vocals. They had “Climbing Up the Walls” on the setlist for night two, though it was replaced by “Myxomatosis.” If they throw in “Climbing Up the Walls” soon and just add in “Electioneering” and “The Tourist,” that’s the whole album. “The Tourist” was in rotation on the Moon Shaped Pool tour, but “Electioneering” is the “Sulk” of OK Computer. They haven’t done it since 1998. We wouldn’t be surprised, however, if that streak ends in the very near future.

Hail to the Thief is getting a lot of attention, too.

Opening night sometimes felt like a trip back to 2003 since they played “2 + 2 = 5,” “A Wolf at the Door,” “Myxomatosis,” “Sit Down. Stand Up,” “The Gloaming,” and “There There.” (They hadn’t done “Sit Down. Stand Up” since 2004. Hey, fellow Radiohead freaks, is 21 years the record for longest gap between live performances of any song in their catalog?) The album is front of mind for Yorke, who recently worked on the stage production of Hamlet Hail to the Thief (which mashes up the album and the Shakespeare play) and the surprise live album Hail to the Thief (Live Recordings 2003–2009) was released earlier this year. There are 14 songs on Hail To The Thief, and we’re unlikely to hear all of them, but we’re rooting for “A Punch Up at a Wedding.” They haven’t done it since 2003, and it didn’t make the cut for the recent live album, but that song rules.

Will Pablo Honey have a moment?

There’s often one asshole at a Radiohead show who spends half the night screaming “Creep!” at the top of his lungs. We aren’t requesting a “Creep” here. They did it 18 times on the Moon Shaped Pool tour, and that was 18 more times than anyone expected. But they also did “Blow Out” once. It’s not hard to imagine another “Blow Out” at some point this fall; aside from that, “You” and “Lurgee” are the only other Pablo Honey songs they’ve done this century, and it’s been over 20 years since they played either of them. It would be an incredible moment if they busted out “Stop Whispering,” “Thinking About You,” or “Ripcord,” but we just don’t see it happening.

How else will this evolve in the coming weeks?

This is a pretty unique tour, where they’re doing four nights each in five European cities. After just two shows, we’ve heard 39 different songs. If they truly rehearsed 70 tunes, they have another 31 to go. Will nights three and four in Madrid see as many setlist changes as we saw at the first two shows? If so, they could hit all 70 before leaving Spain. (Let’s hope that means more Amnesiac. It’s been pretty neglected so far.) If that’s the plan, the fans in Bologna, London, Copenhagen, and Berlin are likely in for a similar treat. But right now, it’s really anyone’s guess until each night’s show happens, which is part of the fun.

Trending Stories

Are there standards they’ll play every night?

Here’s a list of the songs played both nights: “2 + 2 = 5,” “Ful Stop,” “You and Whose Army?,” “Idioteque,” “Bodysnatchers,” “There There,” “Myxomatosis,” “Let Down,” “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi,” “Paranoid Android,” and “Everything in Its Right Place.” To use another Springsteen comparison, how many of these are a “Badlands” or “Born to Run” that we’re guaranteed to get every night? It’s very possible the answer is none of them. But if any of these songs are genuine standards in Radiohead’s live set, it’s probably “Idioteque,” “Paranoid Android,” and “Everything in Its Right Place.” We’d be surprised not to see at least two of those three on any given night.

Is the tour coming to America?

Let’s not forget the biggest question on many Radiohead fans’ minds. There are currently no dates on the books after the European leg wraps up Dec. 12 in Berlin. Will they really rev the machine up after all these years and only hit five European cities before powering it down again? Anything is possible, but an American leg in 2026 feels like a fairly reasonable bet. If that’s the case, expect an even crazier scramble for tickets than usual. This is the tour Radiohead fans have waited years to see. They could probably book 20 nights at Madison Square Garden and sell them all out. (And maybe, somewhere along the way, they’ll break the 30-year “Sulk” drought.)

The post Ten Thoughts After the First Shows of Radiohead’s 2025 Tour appeared first on Music Times.

Here’s Everyone Coming to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

music-times.net

News

Featured

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set to take place this Saturday, November 8 in Los Angeles, with artists like Soundgarden, OutKast, the White Stripes, Cher, Cyndi Lauper and more entering the Cleveland institution. Maybe like a YouTube series.” The episode also states that since 2019, the family of the late producer born Tim Bergling has been archiving material from his laptop and drives to preserve moments from his life and career as Avicii.”

The other two Stories On Stories episodes will feature artists and producers including Gavin DeGraw, Rami Yacoub and Wyclef Jean, altogether exploring the origins of of songs like “Sunset Jesus” and more. The second and third episodes will premier on Dec. 4 and Jan. 1, respectively.

Bergling died by suicide on April 20, 2018. The seven years following his death have seen a wake of commemorative projects including a 2019 posthumous album, a biography, a photo book, a new track released in May and the Avicii Experience museum in the artist’s hometown of Stockholm.

Stories On Stories is presented by the Avicii Estate and Pophouse, the Swedish entertainment company that acquired 75% of Avicii’s recordings and publishing catalog in 2022.

The post New Avicii Docuseries Goes Inside the Studio During the Making of a Classic Album: Watch a Preview appeared first on Music Times.

If you would like to create a banner that links to this page (i.e. this validation result), do the following:
