He died aged 84.</p><p>Major General Namwali was one of the first four Malawian soldiers to be commissioned as officers in the army. He led the rescue operation of a hijacked South African plane at Chileka in 1972.</p><p>Former president Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda promoted Namwali from Brigadier to Major General after that mission. Reports shows that they’d gone to look for a consignment that was reportedly taken by then rival gang on to walk into a trap. His two friends died of stab wounds while he managed to escape in the cab and take himself to the hospital</p><p>Meanwhile, Netzens have criticized the driver for taking time to respond the situation as the man was shouting for help Uncle drive!! Director of Disaster Preparedness and Response for DoDMA, Reverend Moses Chimphepo said this in Blantyre during a joint press […]</p><p>The post <a href="https://www.faceofmalawi.com/2024/07/26/dodma-needs-261-000-metric-tonnes-of-maize-to-fight-hunger/">DoDMA Needs 261, 000 Metric Tonnes Of Maize To Fight Hunger</a> appeared first on <a href="https://www.faceofmalawi.com">Face of Malawi</a>.</p>]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class="xdj266r x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs x126k92a"><div dir="auto">Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) has disclosed that the country will require 261, 000 metric tonnes of maize to effectively respond to the food insecurity induced by El Nino phenomenon in the last growing season.</div><div dir="auto"></div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto">Director of Disaster Preparedness and Response for DoDMA, Reverend Moses Chimphepo said this in Blantyre during a joint press briefing with the World Food Programme on the status of procurement of maize for the national El Nino response.</div><div dir="auto"></div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto">Chimphepo said people who were affected by the effects of El Nino in the 2023/24 growing season will require relief aid in form of maize and other food supplies amounting to 261, 000 metric tonnes across the country.</div><div dir="auto"></div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto">“Our resource mobilisation drive for food only is at 46 percent; Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) report that weve received indicates at least 5.7 million Malawians will need food aid between October 2024 and March 2025,” Chimphepo said.</div><div dir="auto"></div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto">Chimphepo said the MVAC report provides for a two-pronged response whereby distribution of relief food in the first phase would be carried out in June and September targeting 4.2 million people while the second phase would roll out in October through to March reaching out to 5.7 million people.</div><div dir="auto"></div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto">On the other hand, Chimphepo said government is currently encouraging affected households to embark on irrigation farming as one way of cushioning the lean season period, noting that recovery to disasters was necessary in building resilience.</div><div dir="auto"></div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto">Chimphepo said apart from food distribution, DoDMA and other development partners are running parallel social protection programmes including disbursement of social cash transfers to ensure peoples livelihoods were safeguarded.</div><div dir="auto"></div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto">He also disclosed that DoDMA is building the capacity of governance structures at council level to register only eligible beneficiaries for the food distribution exercise, saying: “We would like to get rid of ineligible people benefitting from the programme.”</div><div dir="auto"></div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto">Country Director and Representative of WFP in Malawi, Paul Turnbull said the organisation responded swiftly to calls by President Lazarus Chakwera following the declaration of 23 districts as disaster prone as a result of either dry spells or drought during the growing season.</div><div dir="auto"></div></div><div class="x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a"><div dir="auto">“We have procured about 30, 000 metric tonnes from international markets including WFP Tanzania. Today, we are witnessing the arrival of trucks carrying over 1374 tonnes for distribution to various districts. However, Diddy remains not a suspect in the rapper’s murder.</p><p>Back in 2009, Davis, who was accused of masterminding the drive-by shooting of Shakur, had an interview with the Las Vegas police.</p><div><p>During the interview, he suggested that Diddy paid a high-level drug dealer, Eric Von Martin, a million dollars to assassinate Shakur.</p><p>Those comments were recently cited in a filing to stop Davis from getting bail after his arrest last September on a charge of first-degree murder.</p><p>Shockingly, according to the Daily Mail, the documents that were filed named Diddy 77 times, most likely from Davis’ continued claims that Diddy also had something to do with the murder of the late rapper.</p><p>Despite the serious allegations, Diddy is still not considered a suspect, and it is unclear if that will change.</p><p>However, from all indications, Davis mentioning Diddy’s name appears to be the major stumbling block to getting bail, as the prosecutors argued in their filing that he should be kept in jail because he previously implicated Diddy.</p><p>A transcript, which was part of the nearly 180-page-long documents, revealed the alleged reason why Diddy might have wanted Shakur murdered.</p><p>In the transcript, Davis had told the authorities that Diddy offered to pay for the shooting to get back at then-record executive turned convict Marion Suge Knight.</p><p>Knight was the co-founder and CEO of Death Row Records, the label to which Shakur was signed during the latter part of his career.
