This follows claims by some disgruntled officers who expressed frustration over the government’s failure to address their long-standing welfare concerns.
She told CBS News that the man assaulted her on the beach while bystanders reportedly laughed, recorded the incident on their phones, and did not intervene.

According to statistics, from January 2025 to date, this is the first case of Pangolin (two suspects) to have been registered, compared to three cases (three suspects) recorded during the same period last year.

Police findings attribute the reduction in wildlife-related offences to increased community awareness, effective intelligence gathering, strong relationships with community members, imposition of stiffer penalties, and enhanced inter-agency collaboration between the Police, Wildlife and Judiciary departments.

The suspects will appear before court to answer a charge of illegal possession of specimens of listed species, contrary to Section 110(b) of the National Parks and Wildlife Act, once all documentation is completed.

“We are tired of being ignored while police officers are regularly promoted. Most of us still live in cramped, one-room houses provided by the government, which are unfit for human habitation,” said one officer who declined to be named for fear of victimisation.

The officers say the government appears to prioritize prisoners’ welfare over that of prison staff, despite the critical role they play in maintaining national security and rehabilitation efforts.

People at high risk of contracting HIV may soon have a new way to protect themselves, thanks to a new agreement signed by the Global Fund to help low-income countries access Lenacapavir (Len) a long-acting injectable drug that prevents HIV infection.

This development comes just weeks after the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Lenacapavir as a preventive HIV drug. The injection is administered only twice a year, offering a more convenient option for people who may struggle with daily medications or other prevention methods.

Speaking to MIJ Online, Dr. Beatrice Matanje, Executive Director of the National AIDS Commission (NAC) in Malawi, confirmed that the drug has not yet arrived in the country. However, she said discussions are ongoing at high levels to assess its adoption.

Dr. Matanje emphasized that while Malawi considers Lenacapavir, existing HIV prevention strategies remain vital. These include:

Using condoms

Voluntary male circumcision

Taking oral PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) or injectable PrEP

Taking PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) when exposure is suspected

Health experts believe that if implemented properly, Lenacapavir could significantly reduce new HIV infections, especially among vulnerable populations. Further updates on Malawi’s decision are expected in the coming weeks.
