59. <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span lang="en-GB"><b>Each time you drink from a plastic bottle or dip a teabag into hot water, you may be swallowing more than just your beverage. A growing body of research is exposing how everyday plastic food containers and utensils are quietly contaminating our bodies with tiny fragments known as microplastics and nanoplastics. Growing evidence suggests this may be contributing to a silent public health crisis.</b></span></span></span></p>
60. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span lang="en-GB">In a <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41538-025-00470-3">new study</a>, Swiss scientists confirm what many people have long suspected: plastics, particularly those used in food packaging and preparation, are shedding tiny particles that don&#8217;t just pass through our body – they can lodge in critical organs including the brain, heart, lungs, and even the placenta. These fragments have previously been linked to a <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38460665/">range of health conditions</a>, including lung cancer, asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis, neurological symptoms such as fatigue and dizziness, inflammatory bowel disease, and even disturbances in gut microbiota. </span></span></span></p>
61. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span lang="en-GB">Conducted by the Zurich-based Food Packaging Forum in collaboration with experts from Switzerland and Norway, the new study reviews 103 previous investigations into so-called &#8216;food contact articles&#8217; (FCAs). These include common plastic items like bottles, cups, baby feeders, cling film, chopping boards, trays, and even teabags. The researchers found consistent evidence that microplastics are released during normal use – such as opening a plastic cap, slicing food on a plastic board, or even just steeping a teabag in boiling water. Particularly troubling is the discovery that baby bottles and related accessories also shed them. Yet despite this, regulators and public health authorities have done little to address the problem. </span></span></span></p>
62. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span lang="en-GB">Most of these fragments are made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or its recycled counterpart rPET – petroleum-based materials that take centuries to degrade and are now found in oceans, soil, and the human body. They have also been detected in human blood, the gut, brain tissue, breast milk, and unborn children. </span></span></span></p>
63. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span lang="en-GB">Even more worrying is that these particles act as sponges for other toxic substances. Because plastics repel water, they easily bind to other dangerous compounds – including mercury, pesticides, and dioxins – delivering a toxic payload directly into the body. Once inside, they can accumulate in fatty tissues, adding to the body’s chemical burden over time. </span></span></span></p>
64. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span lang="en-GB">Despite mounting evidence, authorities remain slow to act. Calls from independent scientists for stricter testing and regulatory oversight are routinely ignored or watered down – often due to pressure from the powerful petrochemical and food packaging industries. Unsurprisingly, the pharmaceutical sector, which stands to benefit from diseases linked to chronic exposure, has shown no interest in promoting prevention or detoxification strategies. </span></span></span></p>
65. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span lang="en-GB">This problem reflects a broader failure of modern public health policy: a system that permits – and arguably even encourages – widespread human exposure to synthetic chemicals, then monetises the resulting illnesses. While a complete cessation of plastic use may for now be impossible, with the cost of the alternatives in many cases presenting a significant barrier, trying to reduce our exposure over time seems sensible. </span></span></span></p>

132. <p>The warning here relates to the anti-clotting drug ticagrelor (Brilinta) and comes following a major investigation by <em>The BMJ</em>. Initially approved for use in Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) in 2011, this AstraZeneca drug was initially thought to significantly reduce deaths after a heart attack. However, new scrutiny has cast serious doubt on its effectiveness, with experts now saying that key clinical trials – central to the drug’s approval in both the UK and the United States – may have contained significant misreporting of results. In particular, researchers argue that the main outcome measures used to prove the drug’s effectiveness were inaccurately presented in a leading medical journal.</p>
133. <p><em>The BMJ</em> investigation found that around 25 percent of platelet readings – used to assess how well ticagrelor prevents blood clots – were missing from the trial data submitted to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Some of the omitted readings showed increased platelet aggregation, the very effect the drug is supposed to prevent. These discrepancies raise concerns that the trial data may have painted a misleading picture of the drug’s safety and effectiveness.</p>

198. <p>A joint report by the World Food Program (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) attributes Zimbabwe’s improvement to favorable climatic conditions that supported a better harvest season. Alongside Zimbabwe, several other countries in East and Southern Africa, including Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia, have also been delisted due to reduced weather extremes and improved agricultural outcomes.</p>
199. <p>While the removal marks progress, aid agencies caution that Zimbabwe’s recovery is still fragile. Last year, approximately 7.6 million Zimbabweans needed humanitarian assistance due to the worst drought in four decades. The FAO and WFP warn that any resurgence of climatic or economic shocks could easily reverse its recent gains. Similar concerns are raised for other delisted nations, including Lebanon, where the improvement stems from a lull in military operations rather than lasting structural change.</p>
200. <p>Globally, the outlook remains grim, with 13 countries still classified as current or emerging hunger hotspots. Areas such as Sudan, Palestine, South Sudan, and Haiti are considered “highest concern” zones, facing extreme risk of famine. Ongoing conflict, funding shortfalls, and restricted humanitarian access are worsening conditions in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Myanmar. FAO and WFP leaders are therefore calling for urgent international action and investment to protect livelihoods, support food production, and prevent further deterioration in these high-risk areas.</p>

329. <p>The drugs concerned – donanemab and lecanemab – have been widely hyped as supposed breakthroughs for slowing early-stage Alzheimer’s. However, the UK National Health Service (NHS) spending watchdog concluded that the treatments only delay disease progression by four to six months, deeming this insufficient to justify the projected annual costs of up to £1 billion ($1.35 billion).</p>
330. <p>There are also worrying safety issues with both of these drugs. Research published in 2024 found that lecanemab can potentially <a href="https://www.dr-rath-foundation.org/2024/11/miracle-drug-for-alzheimers-disease-may-triple-risk-of-death/">triple a patient’s risk of death</a>. Patients taking the drug have suffered from brain swelling and bleeding, with as many as 1 in 10 experiencing these problems in clinical trials. The <a href="https://www.drugs.com/donanemab.html#side-effects">side effects of donanemab</a> are very similar.</p>

395. <p>Looking at 1,344 young people between the ages of 6 and 19, this study measured vitamin C levels through blood tests and asked participants whether they had experienced a respiratory infection during the past month. The results showed that 238 of the participants (17.7 percent) had recently suffered such an infection.</p>
396. <p>Young people with higher vitamin C levels were found to be less likely to have had infections. Specifically, for every 10-unit increase in vitamin C, the risk of infection dropped by 7 percent. This connection held true even when the researchers accounted for factors like age, sex, and health conditions. The findings were also consistent across different groups, confirming vitamin C’s protective effect.</p>

After meeting Dr. Rath and Dr. Niedzwiecki at an anti-Codex rally in Berlin in 2002, Paul was inspired to make a life-changing decision to leave the music industry to work for the Foundation and help defend the right of patients worldwide to have free access to natural health approaches.</p>

One of the key ones is that in order to bring up water to ground level, the boreholes require electricity. This presents a problem in that Zimbabwe experiences regular power cuts. On weekdays, for example, there is often no power available between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm. Only at weekends does the supply become more reliable. Discussing how best we could tackle this, we decided that the answer lay in implementing the principles behind our <a href="https://www.movement-of-life.org/free-energy-for-all/">Free Energy for All</a> campaign. </b></span></span></p>

Fortunately, one thing that the country isn’t short of is sunshine. Harare, Zimbabwe&#8217;s capital city where our <a href="https://www.movement-of-life.org/">Movement of Life</a> project is based, experiences well over 2800 hours of sunlight per year – an average of almost 8 hours daily. This means it has enormous potential to take advantage of solar power.</span></span></p>
448. <h3><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Putting smiles on faces and transforming lives</b></span></span></h3>
449. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Our first two solar panels were recently installed at the borehole we erected at Warren Park 4 school. We chose this site because it has a thriving fruit and vegetable gardening project, and the head teacher had kindly agreed to make the borehole available to the local community. The setting up of the solar panels was met with broad smiles and great excitement, as many of the children had never seen this type of technology before.</span></span></p>

Having a regular supply of water for fruit and vegetable gardening and drinking is transformational. People here are incredibly grateful to the Dr. Rath Health Foundation for making this possible!”</span></span></p>
451. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Alice Machete, a student at the school, agreed. “I am so happy to see what the Movement of Life project has done for us,” she said. “At last, we have enough water to drink and look after our gardens.” </span></span></p>
452. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Alice’s parents are equally delighted. “Until now, the power cuts would often prevent us from using the borehole,” they explained. “But with the installation of the solar panels, our crops will stand a much better chance of surviving and providing us with enough to eat.”</span></span></p>
453. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Mr. Chinyayi, a member of the local community, is also enthusiastic. “This is good for the school and the local community,” he said. “By ensuring a continuous supply of water, these solar panels will go a long way towards improving everybody’s health.”</span></span></p>

521. <p>A leading country in the opposition to genetically modified organisms (GMOs), Switzerland is set to extend its ban on cultivating them until the end of 2030. The moratorium, originally introduced in 2005, had been due to expire at the end of this year.</p>
522. <p>The Swiss Senate voted overwhelmingly in favor of the extension, with no opposition and only two abstentions. The House of Representatives had already supported the measure during its spring session.</p>
523. <p>Initially, the House proposed a shorter extension until 2027, but the government recommended a longer five-year period to allow for more thorough discussion. Both legislative chambers have now agreed to this extended timeline.</p>

587. <p>A decree published in France’s Official Journal confirmed the removal of this honor, as well as Sarkozy also now being excluded from the National Order of Merit. The decision comes after the French Court of Cassation upheld the former president’s one-year prison sentence in December, making the conviction final and triggering an automatic withdrawal of these distinctions under French law.</p>
588. <p>Sarkozy, who served as president from 2007 to 2012, was found guilty of attempting to bribe a senior magistrate in 2014 to obtain confidential legal information, using his lawyer as an intermediary. He, his lawyer Thierry Herzog, and the magistrate Gilbert Azibert were all sentenced to three years in prison, with one year to be served.</p>
589. <p>The Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor, General François Lecointre, signed the decree, stating the withdrawal was carried out &#8220;by right&#8221; due to the nature of the conviction. This development makes Sarkozy only the second French head of state to lose the Legion of Honor, the first being Marshal Philippe Pétain, who was stripped of the title in 1945 after being convicted of treason.</p>
590. <p>In addition to the corruption case, Sarkozy remains embroiled in other legal troubles, including allegations that his 2007 presidential campaign was illegally financed by the Libyan regime of Muammar Gaddafi, a case in which he appeared in court again in early 2025.</p>
