44.

Oakland Athletics designated hitter Brent Rooker of Germantown, Tennessee became only the second Athletics player of all-time to hit two home runs in a single inning. He accomplished the feat in the third inning in a dominant 20-4 Athletics win over the Miami Marlins at the Oakland Coliseum in northern California.

 45.
Inside Look at the Home Runs

 46.
Rooker’s first home run came with zero out. He hit a 447-foot two-run home run to left field and put the Athletics up 4-0 at the time. The home run came off of Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Rogers on a count of two balls and zero strikes, and also scored Canadian second baseman Abraham Toro of Longueuil, Quebec.

 47.
Rooker’s second home run came with one out. He hit a 380-foot three-run home run to left field and put the Athletics up 12-0. In addition to scoring Toro again, Rooker also scored right fielder Tyler Nevin of Poway, California, and came off of Marlins relief pitcher Darren McCaughan.

 48.
Four more home runs

 49.
In all, Athletics hitters hit six home runs in the game. In addition to Rooker, rookie third baseman Brett Harris of Arlington Heights, Illinois had two home runs, while center fielder JJ Bleday of Danville, Pennsylvania and catcher Shea Langeliers of Portland, Oregon had one home run each.

 50.
Significant game for Rooker

 51.
Rooker had three hits in four at bats. He also scored two runs, had five runs batted in and one walk.

 52.
Who was the first Athletics player with two home runs in an inning?

 53.
Athletics first baseman Mark McGwire of Pomona, California hit two home runs in the fifth inning on September 22, 1996 in a 13-11 Athletics win over the Seattle Mariners.

 54.
Rooker in 2024

 55.
In 2024, Rooker is batting .240 with eight home runs and 20 runs batted in. During 22 games, 75 at bats and 85 plate appearances, he scored 11 runs, and had 18 hits, three doubles, one stolen base, nine walks, and 45 total bases, to go along with an on base percentage of .329, and a slugging percentage of .600. Rooker’s stolen base came in a 5-2 Athletics win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 30.

 73.

The Boston Bruins reached the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday. In the seventh game of the Eastern Conference first round playoff series, the Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. With the win, the Bruins will now play the Florida Panthers in the second round.

 74.
The game-winning goal was scored by Bruins right winger David Pastrnak of Havirov, Czech Republic. It was Pastrnak’s sixth postseason Stanley Cup Playoff game-winning goal, and his first Stanley Cup playoff overtime winner.

 75.
Inside Look at Pastrnak’s OT winner

 76.
Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm of Helsingborg, Sweden shot the puck from center ice. The puck went off the boards and right to Pastrnak, who found himself open in front of the net. Pastrnak made no mistake, and shot the puck past Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov. It was quite simply a lucky home ice bounce that went the Bruins way. Another Bruins defenseman, Brandon Carlo of Colorado Springs, Colorado picked up the other assist.

 77.
How did Boston get their other goal?

 78.
The Bruins’s other goal was scored by Lindholm. After the Toronto Maple Leafs opened the scoring with a goal by William Nylander of Calgary, Alberta, it did not take the Bruins long to tie the contest. Lindholm had the equalizer one minute and 21 seconds later from James Van Riemsdyk of Middletown, New Jersey and rookie forward Justin Brazeau of New Liskeard, Ontario.

 79.
Sunday Game 7

 80.
There is one more series in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs to be completed. That will be on Sunday night when the Dallas Stars host the Vegas Golden Knights in the seventh and deciding game with the series tied at three. The winner of the Stars/Golden Knights game seven will play the Colorado Avalanche.

 81.
The second round on Sunday is starting before the first round is ending. The New York Ranges are playing the Carolina Hurricanes.

 98.

The first triple crown race of 2024 took place on Saturday with the Kentucky Derby. Here are some fascinating points you may not have known about champion Mystik Dan.

 99.
Incredibly Close Finish

 100.
Mystik Dan’s Kentucky Derby title was extremely close. He won a three-way photo finish over second place finisher Sierra Leone and a third place finisher Forever Young. Mystik Dan’s victory actually came by a nose. Forever Young is a Japanese thoroughbred race horse.

 101.
Won a Milestone Race

 102.
This was the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby. Aristides won the first Kentucky Derby in 1875. Black Gold won the 50th Kentucky Derby in 1924, and Cannonade won the 100th Kentucky Derby in 1974.

 103.
First Triple Crown win for Jockey Brian Hernandez Jr.

 104.
The native of Lafayette, Louisiana won his first Triple Crown race. The most notable win he had prior to Saturday came in 2012 when Hernandez Jr. won the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Classic on the horse Fort Larned.

 105.
Third Triple Crown win for Trainer Kenneth McPeek

 106.
The 2024 Kentucky Derby was the third Triple Crown win for trainer Kenneth McPeek of Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. It was also the first Kentucky Derby win for McPeek. He previously trained Sarava to a Belmont Stakes victory in 2002, and filly Swiss Skydiver to a win at the Preakness in 2020.

 107.
Significant title for McPeek and Hernandez Jr.

 108.
McPeek was the first trainer since 1952 to win the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby in the same year. On May 3, a day before the Kentucky Derby, McPeek trained Thorpedo Anna to victory. Interestingly, Hernandez Jr. was also the winning jockey. In 1952, Ben Jones of Parnell, Missouri trained Real Delight to a win at the Kentucky Oaks and Hill Gail to a win at the Kentucky Derby.

 109.
When was Mystik Dan’s only other win?

 110.
Mystik Dan’s only other win came at the Southwest Stakes in Hot Springs, Arkansas this past January. Mystik Dan was trained by Juan Sanchez and rode by Emmanuel Esquivel.

 111.

 129.

 130.

Philadelphia Phillies star shortstop Trea Turner of Boynton Beach, Florida will be out six weeks with a left hamstring sprain according to FOX Sports on Saturday. This is the second time in his career that Turner has injured his hamstring. He also went on the injury list with hamstring tightness while with the Washington Nationals in 2017. That same season, Turner broke his wrist after being hit by a Pedro Strop fastball.

 131.
How did Turner injure his hamstring?

 132.
Turner suffered the injury running between third base and home plate on Friday night in a 4-3 Phillies win over the San Francisco Giants at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park. Turner was actually trying to go from second base to home plate at full speed on a pass ball. The play at home plate was close, as Giants manager Bob Melvin challenged the safe call, but video replay was upheld and Turner scored the game-winning run.

 133.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson recognized Turner’s great efforts and said that his play won the Phillies the ball game. However, Thompson realizes that not having Turner for the next six weeks is a gigantic loss.

 134.
Turner in 2024

 135.
This season Turner has been one of the most consistent offensive performers in all of Major League Baseball. He is batting .343 with two home runs and nine runs batted in. During 33 games, 137 at bats and 148 plate appearances, Turner has scored 27 runs, and had 47 hits, 10 doubles, nine walks, 63 total bases, with an on base percentage of .392 and a slugging percentage of .460. Turner’s home runs came in a 9-2 Phillies loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 14 in the Battle of Pennsylvania, and in a 7-6 Phillies win over the Colorado Rockies on April 17.

 136.
Leading the National League East

 137.
The Phillies are currently at 23 wins and 11 losses. They are in first place in the National League East and lead the Atlanta Braves by a game and a half.

 159.

After securing the pole position Saturday afternoon, NASCAR Truck Series driver Chase Purdy recalled his previous outing at Kansas Speedway.

 160.
That came last fall when he also started on the inside of the front row, but pit problems cost Purdy’s machine from contending for the checkered flag.

 161.
“We beat ourselves,” Purdy told Fox Sports after his qualifying run. “This is one of the races where you do have to be patient.”

 162.
Corey Heim heeded the advice, picked his spots to move up from his P13 starting spot and captured the Heart of America 200 at Kansas Speedway.

 163.
Purdy, meanwhile, lost his patience after leading a total of seven laps and placing P28.

 164.
X (Twitter) users responded to Heim dominating the field, leading 79 of 134 laps, and overcoming pit problems to earn his second win of the season …

 265.

Christopher Bell, a Championship 4 qualifier the past two seasons, was looking to shake his recent slump, placing 34th or worse in three of the past four outings. He was 17th three weeks ago at Texas Motor Speedway. Last weekend at Dover Motor Speedway, Bell started P33 and finished P34.

 266.
Bell, who earned the win at Phoenix Raceway during Week 4, appears to have snapped his skid.

 267.
During Saturday’s qualifying session for Sunday’s AdventHealth 400, the No. 20 Toyota team found some of its missing tempo as Bell captured his 11th career pole. He turned a hot lap of 183.107 mph, edging Ross Chastain (182.704).

 268.
Tyler Reddick registered the best practice lap at 181.002 mph.

 273.
Injured Erik Jones Medically Cleared, Will Still Sit

 274.
After sitting out last week at Dover Motor Speedway, injured Legacy Motor Club driver Erik Jones on Thursday was cleared by medical personnel to return to Cup action. Jones endured a spinal fracture during a crash at Talladega Superspeedway on April 21.

 275.
Even with the medical staff’s approval, Jones will not drive the No. 43 Toyota at Kansas. Team officials are being precautionary and sidelining Jones for at least another week.

 276.
Rookie Cory Heim, who made his Cup debut while subbing for Jones last Sunday, will get another shot during the AdventHealth 400. Heim placed 25th at Dover.

 277.
Jones, 27, is slated to attend the Cup events at Kansas to aid Heim, a Truck Series regular who had never piloted a Next Gen machine before last weekend.

 351.

The San Diego Padres have acquired second baseman Luis Arraez of San Felipe, Venezuela in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins on Friday. According to Jorge Castillo of ESPN, the Padres traded minor league pitcher Woo-Suk Go of Ganghwa, South Korea, minor league centerfielders Dillon Head of Chicago, Illinois, and Jakob Marsee of Dearborn, Michigan, and minor league first baseman Nathan Martorella of Monterey, California to Miami.

 352.
The Padres are the third Major League Baseball team Arraez has played for. He has previously played four seasons with the Minnesota Twins from 2019 to 2022, and the last two seasons with the Marlins.

 353.
Arraez in 2024

 354.
This season, Arraez is batting .299 with zero home runs and five runs batted in. During 33 games, 137 at bats, and 148 plate appearances, he scored 22 runs, and had 41 hits, eight doubles, one triple, eight walks, 51 total bases, one sacrifice bunt, an on base percentage of .347 and a slugging percentage of .372. Arraez’s triple came in a 10-3 Marlins win over the St. Louis Cardinals on April 7, and his sacrifice bunt came in a 4-3 Marlins loss to the San Francisco Giants on April 15.

 355.
Singles Specialist

 356.
Arraez has had 688 base hits in his career. Of his 688 hits, were 537 singles, 115 doubles, 12 triples and 24 home runs.

 357.
Two-time batting champion

 358.
Arraez had the highest batting average in the American League at .316 while with the Twins in 2022. Then in 2023, Arraez led the entire Major Leagues with a .354 batting average while with the Marlins. Arraez was the third Marlins player in franchise history to be the National League batting champion. He followed shortstop Hanley Ramirez of Samana, Dominican Republic, who had a .342 batting average in 2009, and infielder Dee Gordon of Windermere, Florida, who had a .333 batting average in 2015.

 359.
Arraez is only the second player ever to win the batting title in both leagues. The other was infielder DJ LeMahieu of Visalia, California, who led the National League with a .348 batting average while with the Colorado Rockies in 2016, and led the American League with a .364 batting average while with the New York Yankees in 2020.

 377.

The Vancouver Canucks are in the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Saturday, Arturs Silovs of Ventspils, Latvia made 28 saves as the Canucks defeated the Nashville Predators 1-0 in game six of the Western Conference First Round Playoff Series. With the victory at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, the Canucks won the best out of seven series four games to two.

 378.
Silovs’s Game Six Performance

 379.
Silovs made six saves in the first period, 13 saves in the second period, and nine saves in the third period. 2020 Norris Trophy winner Roman Josi of Bern, Switzerland and left winger Jason Zucker of Newport Beach, California had four shots on goal each for the Predators to lead the team.

 380.
Silovs recorded his shutout in only his 12th career NHL game. He has played only nine games in the regular season and three in the playoffs.

 381.
Canucks goaltending situation

 382.
The Canucks have gone to Silovs because of injuries to Thatcher Demko of San Diego, California and Casey DeSmith of Rochester, New Hampshire. Demko, who should be considered one of the very best National Hockey League goaltenders in the game today is out with a serious knee injury, while DeSmith is out with a groin strain. Even though Demko is travelling with the Canucks, an appearance for him is highly unlikely for the remainder of the 2024 postseason.

 383.
Fourth Latvian goaltender with NHL shutout

 384.
Silovs became the fourth Latvian goaltender in NHL history to record a shutout. Arturs Irbe of Riga had 33 NHL regular season shutouts and one playoff shutout from 1992 to 2002. He had 20 shutouts with the Carolina Panthers, eight shutouts with the San Jose Sharks, three shutouts with the Dallas Stars and two shutouts with the Canucks. Irbe’s playoff shutout came in game four of the 2002 Eastern Conference Finals, a 3-0 Hurricanes win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Elvis Merzlikins of Riga has had 10 regular season shutouts with the Columbus Blue Jackets since 2019-20, and Peter Skudra of Riga had six shutouts with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Canucks from 1998 to 2003.

 409.

Chase Purdy has had three-plus weeks to contemplate his early season struggles in the NASCAR Truck Series.

 410.
In seven starts, Purdy has registered just one top-five finish. In the other six events, his average finish was 23rd. Entering Saturday night’s Heart of America 200 at Kansas Speedway, Purdy’s team wanted to make a statement coming off the circuit’s break.

 411.
He did.

 412.
Purdy, the brother of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, earned the pole position Saturday afternoon with a hot lap of 175.735 mph, his second straight at the 1.5-mile tri-oval.

 413.
“It’s huge,” Purdy told Fox Sports. “It’s been kind of a struggle this season. The pole today is great for our momentum to go into tonight’s race.”

 414.
Purdy edged Ty Majeski during the qualifying run, beating the No. 98 Ford by 0.004 seconds.

 415.
With Purdy starting on the inside of the front row and teammates Rajah Caruth (175.08 mph) and Connor Mosack (174.989) playing P4 and P5, respectively Spire Motorsports qualified three of the top five machines for Saturday night’s event.

 420.
Ex-Truck Champ Jack Sprague Honored By Hall Nomination

 421.
As the Truck Series returns from a 22-day hiatus at Kansas, one of the circuit’s initial stars is back in the NASCAR spotlight.

 422.
Jack Sprague, a three-time series champion, is one of 15 nominees for the Class of 2025 NASCAR Hall of Fame. Among the series’ inaugural drivers in 1995, Sprague placed first or second in points standings five times over six years (1996-2001).

 423.
The Spring Lake, Mich., native competed until 2011, claiming 28 wins and 32 pole positions. He claimed series titles in 1997, ‘99 and 2001.

 424.
Sprague told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio how honored he was to be nominated.

 425.
“It’s the who’s who of the sport and even to be considered, (it’s) a big accomplishment,” he said.
