This was achieved through virtualized radio access network (vRAN) components. SoftBank had recently launched its research facility, the “AI-on-5G Lab.”

 45.
The lab will integrate vRAN and MEC while also demonstrating and applying various AI solutions to the business domain. SoftBank, NVIDIA, and Mavenir also achieved real-time person detection through an AI solution on a server with the same vRAN architecture.

 46.
The “AI-on-5G Lab.” is a research facility developed in partnership with NVIDIA that combines virtualized radio signal processing software from network software provider Mavenir, AI processing middleware, AI image processing application software on MEC, and physical Radio Units (RU) from Foxconn Technology Group.

 47.
The RAN and MEC AI application work on the same architecture server. SoftBank successfully achieved real-time person detection by wirelessly connecting 5G-compatible camera images through its 5G network to an AI application.

 48.
SoftBank plans to use GPUs for both RAN and AI applications, despite many vRAN accelerators being specialized for vRAN software. The company is expected to utilize the GPU platform for AI application as a vRAN platform when adding RU and vRAN software, and enable the vRAN site as a MEC location that uses GPUs. SoftBank aims to achieve dynamic resource allocation depending on RAN and MEC demand while also reducing power consumption of vRAN in the future.

 128. Jefferies predicts that the telecom company will experience a 13 percent growth in average revenue per user (ARPU) between FY23-25, and expects that its market share in the telecom industry will expand with the introduction of 5G technology. However, the research firm has adjusted its estimates by 1-4 percent to account for tariff hike delays. “Over FY23-25, we expect a single tariff hike of 15 percent towards CY23 end,” Jefferies stated.

This will be Samsung’s first investment in telecom gear manufacturing in India, joining international rivals Nokia and Jabil (Ericsson) in producing 5G equipment locally.

 204.
As both Reliance Jio Infocomm and Bharti Airtel roll out 5G networks, the demand for 5G equipment has increased. The South Korean conglomerate has agreements with Jio and Airtel to provide 5G radios for specific circles.

 205.
After passing last year, Samsung decided to participate in the Rs 12,195 crore PLI scheme for telecom equipment due to a dearth of chances in the equipment supply sector. Jio was its sole 4G customer at the time, and 5G rollouts had not yet begun in 2017. However, Samsung has secured deals from both of the main carriers as they launch their 5G networks.

 206.
Samsung was recognized as a “reliable” source earlier this year by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).

 207.
To be chosen by telecom carriers to place equipment on their network, you must receive such clearance.

 208.
A rule requiring operators only to buy equipment from reliable suppliers went into force on June 15 of last year, and it includes the requirement for a security clearance.

 209.
On February 24 of last year, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced the PLI scheme for the manufacturing of telecom equipment, with an investment of Rs 12,195 crore split over five years.

 210.
42 businesses, including 28 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), have been chosen for the program, and they have pledged a combined Rs 4,115 crore in investments. 17 of them have submitted applications for an extra 1% bonus under the design-led manufacturing criteria.

A Tata Group firm called Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) would assist BSNL in the introduction of domestic 4G. TCS and ITI Limited have submitted bids to roll out BSNL’s 4G. By the end of October, TCS and BSNL had finished the proof-of-concept (PoC) for domestic 4G. According to the article, the bids will be publicly announced today, Wednesday. Keep in mind that ITI has a 20% reserve for the total rollout of BSNL’s 4G.

 283.
The domestically built 4G core solution for the BSNL network will be provided by C-DoT (Centre for Development of Telematics). Systems integrator (SI) duties will be handled by TCS, and network hardware will be handled by Tejas Networks. Although the report shows that expenses have been largely upon y agreed upon by the two businesses, BSNL and TCS were having trouble agreeing on the project’s cost.

 284.
For ten years, TCS would be responsible for maintaining BSNL’s networks. Over 100,000 sites will be upgraded to 4G by BSNL throughout India. To provide radio that will go into these places, TCS would need more than 18 to 24 months. Tejas Networks was acquired by Tata Sons back in 2021, giving the Tata Group better command over the project’s expenses and schedule.

 285.
The TCS received an order from BSNL earlier this year to provide equipment for 6400 radio sites that will be over the 900 MHz and 2100 MHz bands. To provide 4G services in India, BSNL would need an additional 5 MHz of spectrum in the 2100 MHz range.

 286.
The C-primary DoT’s offering can simply be updated to 5G. Even during the just concluded India Mobile Congress 2022, C-DoT showcased its homegrown 5G core.

According to analysts, the stack’s low cost of construction and extensive testing in one of the world’s most complicated telecom markets are what has sparked an interest. […]

 314.
According to analysts, the stack’s low cost of construction and extensive testing in one of the world’s most complicated telecom markets are what has sparked an interest.

 315.
The decision is noteworthy given the tense relationship between the US and China following the former’s ban on the sale of Huawei and ZTE’s equipment in the US due to concerns about espionage, which led many other nations in Europe and Asia to follow suit.

 316.
Currently, a few nations—Nokia and Ericsson in Europe and Samsung in South Korea—control the development of 4G and 5G technologies and related hardware. China is ahead of the US in terms of 5G subscriber base and coverage because of its advanced 5G technology development and deployment.

 317.
India is firmly establishing itself as a rival location for telecom technology, and 6G development will also get underway.

 318.
The government’s determination to deploy exclusively indigenous technology for Bharat Sanchar Nigam’s 5G services and the much-delayed 4G network rollout led to the endeavour to develop an indigenous stack. After pushback from domestic telecom equipment manufacturers, a previous RFP that requested a global tender was dropped.

 319.
The consortium led by C-Dot was given the contract to roll out 4G services after several detours and demonstrations of “proof of concept,” which is anticipated to happen in the next months. By the Fourth of July of the following year, 5G should be operational.

 320.
C-DOT has finished work on the critical domestically designed 5G non-standalone core in addition to creating the 4G stack and the radio. Contrary to international telecom equipment manufacturers, where telcos are forced to use proprietary technology, this hardware is independent.

 321.
To power 5G services, C-Dot is also constructing an indigenous independent core. Building a 5G radio access network and a telco-grade 5G radio are the other initiatives. These will provide telcos with the freedom to purchase software and hardware from a variety of vendors, cutting their costs.

 322.
Global manufacturers like Nokia and Ericsson sell integrated proprietary hardware and software that offers no user flexibility.

 323.
Tejas Software, which has manufacturing capabilities for telecom hardware, was acquired by Tata Consultancy Services, which can play a vital role in being an integrator (software and hardware) for developing the telecom network.

 324.
Even Reliance Jio has created a 5G core and radios of its own, and it has made it known that it would also export this technology.

 325.
It has partnered with leading global ODM company Sanmina to produce certain 5G radios at their joint venture facility in the nation. However, it has also awarded firms like Nokia and Ericsson contracts to help it spread out its 5G networks.

 326.
Reliance Jio, according to a top corporate official, has end-to-end 5G technology that consists of the core, radios, and software. This technology is what makes up its plan.
