This took me a while to figure out.

tl;dr To remove the house of a player whose profile is deleted from your
  8. Switch, just start up ACNH has a user who does not have a house,
  9. and link them to the deleted profile.

  10.
A while back my kids got ahold of my Switch, and created a profile (not linked
  11. to a Nintendo account, in this case) and made themselves a house (or tent) on my
  12. island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I deleted this profile but to my
  13. surprise, the house stayed behind. The normal process to delete a resident and
  14. their house is to launch them game with their profile, press the "minus" key on
  15. the title screen, and request to delete your data. This was no longer possible
  16. because I had deleted the anonymous profile.

  17.
The fix is actually pretty simple, if non-obvious. This took me a bit to figure
  18. out so I'm writing it here for posterity.

  19.
Claiming the house with a new profile

  20.
In short, if you have deleted user data on the island, and launch the game with
  21. a new profile (that doesn't have a house), you'll be asked if you want to link
  22. the abandoned resident with the new profile. Once you've linked them, you can
  23. use the regular process to delete the resident data from the title scree, and
  24. then delete the profile (if you created it just for this purpose).

  25.
There are a few warnings and prompts along the way. The whole process can be
  26. seen in the screenshots below.

As a
  43. roguelike, you maybe never "finish," but the epilogue is a pretty
  44. significant milestone. It feels especially signifcant for me, as I don't have a
  45. great track record of sticking with games these days.

  46.
I picked Hades up on the Nintendo Switch after its 1.0 release in September.
  47. After a few very satisfying runs, I bought the game on Steam on September 25. My
  48. first clear on PC was October 23, I finished the main storyline on October 25,
  49. and it took until November 15 to reach the epilogue, 82 hours in.

  50.
Hades checks a lot of boxes for me: the characters (and voices) are great, the
  51. combat is fast and fun, there's lots of variety available in each run, and I can
  52. feel myself improve with practice. I'll probably keep playing for a while yet:
  53. there are still a few achievements left for me, plus a whole lotta heat to push.

  56. in my use case when I'm also using Vim template files.

  57.
Vim's "alternate file" is changed to the previous "current file" any time the
  58. current file changes.
CTRL-^
or
:b#
switch to the alternate file, and are a
  59. quick way to toggle between two files. I map this functionality to
,b
and it's
  60. one of my most frequently used shortcuts:

  61.

let mapleader=","
  62. map <leader>b <C-^>
  63.

  64.
I also use
template
files to populate new files automatically:

  65.

if has("autocmd")
  66. augroup templates
  67. autocmd!
  68. autocmd BufNewFile */sixohthree.com/content/*.md 0r %:s?content/.*?templates/article.md?
  69. augroup END
  70. endif
  71.

  72.
I've always had a minor annoyance with templates: the template file does not
  73. show up in the buffer list
:ls
, but it does become the alternate file, and
  74. gets picked up by
CTRL-^
.

  75.
I finally set out to fix this today, which brought me to
:keepalt
. Prefacing
  76. the
autocmd
with
keepalt
keeps the template from becoming the alternate
  77. file, so you don't toggle back to a file you didn't actually edit.

  78.

autocmd BufNewFile */sixohthree.com/content/*.md keepalt 0r %:s?content/.*?templates/article.md?
  79.

  80.

,b
is safe again!

  83. beds, getting me to max sparkle (5 visitors or "5V") and an 80% reproduction rate.
  84. Contents of that garden as follows, mostly using "interleaved diamonds":

  90.
Here's the layout, via AC Flower Planner:

  91.

  94.
  95.
  96.
From that layout and watering, the flowers produced these offspring:

  97.

  98.
6 white roses (0-0-0-0 or 0-0-1-0) and 3 purple roses (0-0-2-0)

  99.
7 yellow tulips (1-1-1) and 3 orange tulips (1-1-0)

  100.
1 blue pansy clone (0-0-2)

  101.

  102.

  103.
The white roses and yellow tulips get vendored so they don't pollute the gene

  105. orange tulips (for purple tulips).

  106.

  107.
The tulips don't really need this much attention but I'm doing it anyway. It's
