40.

VanWalleghem said there is room to push costs down as the company gains experience from these first few plants. The storage systems have a projected lifespan of about 50 years, which is an important data point when comparing it to battery systems, which have much shorter lives, he said.

 41.
Yiyi Zhou, an analyst for BloombergNEF, said Hydrostor is one of about 100 companies that focus, at least in part, on developing long-duration energy storage.

 42.
Hydrostor stands out, she said, because its technology is “relatively mature” and the company has also been one of the most successful in the space at raising money from investors.

 43.
BloombergNEF reported a global total of 1.4 gigawatts and 8.2 gigawatt-hours of long-duration energy storage as of last September, excluding pumped hydro. The average duration, which you can calculate by dividing gigawatt-hours by gigawatts, was 5.9 hours.

 44.
For perspective, the two Hydrostor projects being developed have a combined capacity of 0.9 gigawatts, more than half of the global total now online.

 45.
For this year and next, the long-duration storage technologies likely to see the fastest adoption are compressed-air storage and flow batteries, according to BloombergNEF. (I wrote an explainer on flow batteries in 2022.)

 46.
I find it challenging to get my arms around this part of the clean energy economy because of the large gap between what’s been developed and what’s in some stage of planning. There are many opportunities for projects to sputter and die along the way.

 47.
With this in mind, I’ll be watching to see whether Hydrostor is able to begin construction on schedule in Australia and whether it can navigate the regulatory approval process for the plant in California.

 48.
The California project has gone through some big changes. At one point, Hydrostor had two proposals in the state, but dropped one because of challenges in the permitting process, including some issues with building in a location overseen by the California Coastal Commission. The remaining project, Willow Rock, has also gone through changes to the design and the location in response to feedback from the local community and from regulators.

 49.
The California Energy Commission paused its review of Willow Rock last fall to give Hydrostor time to provide details on its updated plan. The review process began again in March and could be complete as soon as this time next year.

 50.
One of the factors to keep in mind is that California’s state government and the California Energy Commission have made clear that they want to build long-duration energy storage. The state has estimated that it will need 4 gigawatts of long-term energy storage capacity to be able to meet the goal of 100 percent clean electricity by 2045.

 51.
Hydrostor and state officials want to see this project get up and running. If that happens, it could provide a showpiece to make the case for building many others.

 52.
“We’re just looking forward to the growth, just getting these projects constructed and then start doing more, five, 10 projects at a time,” VanWalleghem said.

 70.
Cops in Orange County got their exercise in to end the week — they had to chase down a handful of alleged juvenile delinquents accused of jacking a car … and the video’s wild.

 71.
Costa Mesa PD tells TMZ … officers came across a vehicle that had been reported stolen Friday in the middle of the day — and when they tried initiating a stop, we’re told the car didn’t come to a stop … so the police had to give chase.

 73.
We’re told there was a short pursuit, which ended with the subjects of the vehicle bailing on the car … and cops having to chase them down on foot — something captured on camera.

 74.
TMZ got a hold of the footage … and yeah, it’s pretty intense — you can see the whole thing.

 77.
The cops that end up going after these people appear to have their weapons drawn — but luckily, no shots are fired … and in the end, it looks like they were able to nab the suspects.

 96.

A landmark antitrust trial against Google concluded on Friday after a federal judge heard final arguments, setting the stage for a ruling that could fundamentally shift the tech industry’s power.

 97.
“The importance and significance of this case is not lost on me, not only for Google but for the public,” Judge Amit P. Mehta said in the final moments of the proceedings on Friday. He thanked the lawyers who argued the case, and then added, “I guess you’ve passed the baton to us.”

 98.
Now, he must decide the case in which the Justice Department and state attorneys general say that Google has abused a monopoly over the search business, stifling competitors and limiting innovation, something the company denies.

 99.
During two days of closing arguments, Judge Mehta of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia did not reveal how he planned to rule. He grilled both sides, frequently referencing testimony and evidence from the 10-week trial last year to poke holes in their arguments. He also demanded that they explain how their positions fit with major legal precedents.

 100.
As the proceedings closed on Friday, Kenneth Dintzer, the Justice Department’s lead trial lawyer, argued that if antitrust laws “cannot thaw” a search business dominated by Google, the company’s practices will continue into the future.

 101.
John E. Schmidtlein, Google’s lead lawyer, countered that a ruling in favor of the government “would be an unprecedented decision to punish a company for winning on the merits.”

 102.
Judge Mehta’s ruling in the coming weeks or months will probably influence the course of other government antitrust lawsuits against Apple, Amazon and Meta, the owner of Instagram and WhatsApp, as U.S. regulators try to rein in their power.

 103.
The government argues Google illegally cemented a monopoly in search by paying Apple and other tech partners billions of dollars to feature the Google search engine in their products.

 104.
On Friday, the discussion focused on the government’s second claim that the company also has a monopoly over the ads that run in search results.

 105.
Google pointed to other companies that compete in search and advertising.

 106.
“Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Amazon — all of these companies have very, very detailed and very useful information that allows them to give advertisers lots and lots of different options to reach the consumer groups they’re most interested in,” Mr. Schmidtlein argued.

 107.
Judge Mehta asked the Justice Department, to explain why search ads were so different from ads on Facebook and other social platforms.

 108.
“How does that measure up with reality?” he asked. “It can’t be that Facebook’s ad platform is an inferior product and they’re making billions of dollars.”

 109.
Judge Mehta also mentioned the success of TikTok, which, he said, had a “pretty good ad platform” and was growing. He said he had spent some time using TikTok’s search to research the case.

 110.
In a seeming nod to national security concerns about that app, he added: “Not that I have it on my phone, just to be clear.”

 111.
The government also said the judge should sanction Google for a company policy that automatically turned off the history for workplace chats, arguing that the policy resulted in the destruction of evidence. Mr. Dintzer said the court needed to “say this is wrong” to stop Google from hiding evidence in the future. A lawyer for Google, Colette T. Connor, denied the company had done anything inappropriate.

 112.
“Let me just be perfectly candid,” Judge Mehta said. “Google’s document retention policy leaves a lot to be desired.”

Today, let’s dive into the luxurious world of chunky gold chains. For someone who lives and breathes an opulent lifestyle, nothing says “statement piece” quite like a bold, gold necklace. So, let’s unlock the treasure trove of styling these magnificent adornments.

 129.
The Midas Touch in Everyday Attire

 132.
I always wear a Stetson hat with my chunky gold vintage accessories.

 133.

 134.
Power Dressing for the Boardroom

 135.
Who says meetings have to be dull? Ladies, it’s time to channel your inner boss with a touch of gold. Swap out that predictable pearl necklace for a chunky gold chain over a sleek, tailored suit. It’s a nod to tradition with a wink at rebellion—perfect for making a powerful statement without uttering a word. You’re not just at the table; you’re leading the discussion. Wear it like Pharrell Lanscilo Williams.

 136.
Evening Elegance: Gold’s Night Out

 137.
Evening events are my playground, and a chunky gold chain is my swing. Elevate a little black dress with a gold piece that’s as bold as it is beautiful. Think of it as your golden hour, where every turn you make catches the light and all eyes are on you. It’s not just an accessory; it’s a conversation starter, a room silencer, a showstopper.

 138.
Summer Fun with Gold

 139.
Why should winter have all the fun with layers? Summer is a fantastic time to showcase your golden flair. A flowy maxi dress paired with a hefty gold chain is a match made in style heaven. It’s like wearing a sunset around your neck—glowing, warm, and endlessly enchanting. Add a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and you’re not just dressed for summer; you’re dressed for a summer romance novel.

 140.
For the Gents: Stepping Up the Gold Game

 141.
Gentlemen, don’t let us have all the fun. Take a leaf out of Pharrell’s book and rock a chunky gold chain with your summer attire. Pair it with a denim shirt, tight leggings, and yes, even a cowboy hat. It’s a look that says, ‘I’m here, I’m bold, and I’ve got style in spades.’ So, ditch that inner rebel rapper and embrace the bling.

 143.
Mix, Match, and Layer

 144.
One of the beauties of gold chains is their versatility. Don’t hesitate to mix metals or add layers of different lengths. A stack of gold chains can transform a simple outfit into a masterpiece of textures and highlights. It’s like being an artist, and your canvas is your neckline.

 145.
Caring for Your Gold—Keep the Sparkle Alive!

 146.
Loving your gold means taking care of it. Remember, a clean chain is a dazzling chain. Regular polishing and safe storage will keep your gold as radiant as your personality. It’s not just maintenance; it’s preserving the magic.

 147.
Signing Off with a Sparkle

Whether you’re stepping out for a coffee or stepping onto the red carpet, remember: a chunky gold chain isn’t just an accessory; it’s a statement. Wear it with confidence, wear it with joy, and most importantly, wear it like no one else can—because, darling, that’s the only way to wear gold.

 149.
Until next time, keep shining, keep smiling, and keep strutting your fabulous selves!

 166.

Thirteen issues into the relaunch of Harper’s Bazaar France, and it’s become apparent Olivier Lalanne has the knack for handpicking the very best of the modeling industry for the magazine’s front covers. After all, everyone from Kaia Gerber and Imaan Hammam to Kate Moss and Rianne van Rompaey have graced covers since the French edition of Harper’s Bazaar made its triumphant return to print. The May 2024 issue of the publication unveils Naomi Campbell as its latest cover star. Karim Sadli and Bazaar France’s fashion director Elodie David Touboul team up to profile the British fashion icon. Naomi shows off her softer side in the crisp black and white cover photograph, looking effortless as she sports a Loewe t-shirt and a pair of Levi’s jeans.

 173.
Also expressing fondness was zoom: “If we’re going to have a Naomi cover every month, this is the right move. Credit to Karim for convincing Campbell to bring some vulnerability!”

 196.
It’s a hotly debated topic and one that gets asked often in our supermarket savings community: Where is the lowest-priced place to shop?

 197.
The thing is, I don’t really think there is a one-size-fits-all answer.

 198.
Sure, for ME, and the stuff I buy, one supermarket can work out cheaper.

 199.
However, we don’t have young kids, so we save on the additional costs, and no one in the family has allergies or intolerances to food.

 200.
Just because the basket of food I buy one week is cheaper, the stuff you buy might work out more expensive.

 201.
Which is the cheapest supermarket in the UK?

 202.
Trying to use a bit of methodology, consumer group Which? has been monitoring prices of groceries across six major supermarkets (* that must have been a fun job *).

 203.
First, they made a shopping list of 67 items they thought would be in a typical shopping basket.

 204.
Their list included a mix of the store’s own products and branded items, such as fruit and veg, pasta sauces, baked beans and other everyday items.

 205.
They then worked out the average price (including discounts but not multibuys) for each item across the month and compared it.

 206.
So what did they find?

 207.
Without further ado, the lowest price supermarket of April 2024 is … drum roll, please …

 208.
…

 209.
…

 212.
In April 2024, the cheapest trolley of food items was from Aldi, and it cost £112.90.

 213.
Lidl was the second cheapest at £115.23, and Asda was in third place, costing £126.98.

 218.
Here is a breakdown of the cheapest supermarket in 2024, as tracked by Which? on a monthly basis.

 219.
Here are the cheapest supermarkets over the year:

 220.
January 2024 – Aldi – £129.24

 221.
February 2024 – Aldi – £125.43

 222.
March 2024 – Aldi – £121.06

 226.
Does the study from Which? sway you to shop at another store because it’s “cheaper” than another supermarket in the UK?

 227.
Or, are you happy with your own research to know where to shop?

 230.
Here is a breakdown of the cheapest supermarket in 2023, as tracked by Which? on a monthly basis.

 231.
The shops would use a smaller basket of generally around 40 items, which is why the costs appear a lot lower than this year.

 232.
January 2023 – Aldi – £82.03

 233.
February 2023 – Aldi – £74.81

 234.
March 2023 – Aldi – £72.54

 235.
April 2023 – Aldi – £69.99

 236.
May 2023 – Aldi – £68.60

 237.
June 2023 – Aldi – £72.25

 238.
July 2023 – Aldi – £71.22

 239.
August 2023 – Aldi – £65.21

 240.
September 2023 – Aldi – £67.72

 241.
October 2023 – Lidl – £74.58

 242.
November 2023 – Aldi – £76.77

 243.
December 2023 – Aldi – 74.83

 244.
2023 bigger food shops

 245.
While the ranking for 2023 shows the cost for smaller essential shops, there is also a comparison for a larger show with the original items, plus more. This trolley includes a bigger range of branded goods.

 246.
However, as some of the items they compare are branded, this comparison does not include Lidl or Aldi.

 247.
If we swapped branded foods to own brand (as I know a lot of people won’t have their whole trolley full of them), the average cost would be a lot less.

 248.
And, as Lidi and Aldi generally win each month for years for a smaller basket (see below for their track history), I’d hazard a guess they’d also lead this chart.

 249.

 250.

 281.
The cheapest supermarket in 2022 overall was Aldi. It was cheaper than others for seven consecutive months, with Lidl just missing the top spot.

 282.
Bear in mind that when the comparisons were carried out this year, they were of a much smaller basket size, which is why they were so much cheaper until June when they started to compare more items.

 283.
Looking back, here are the cheapest supermarkets in 2022:

 284.
January 2022 – Lidl – £24.78

 285.
February 2022 – Lidl – £24.21

 286.
March 2022 – Lidl – £26.83

 287.
April 2022 – Lidl – £25.92

 288.
May 2022 – Lidl – £23.55

 289.
June 2022 – Aldi – £75.61 (see the note above about comparison size)

 290.
July 2022 – Aldi – £74.23

 291.
August 2022 – Aldi – £76.24

 292.
September 2022 – Aldi – £75.61

 293.
October 2022 – Aldi – £75.79

 294.
November 2022 – Aldi – £77.21

 295.
December 2022 – Aldi – £81.63

 296.
NOTE: In previous months, Which compared around 20 items in each basket, but have increased the number of items they’re looking at. This makes it difficult to see, overall, how the monthly pricing is changing.

 297.
In March 2022, 21 items were compared, with the cheapest basket prices at £26.83. In April, with 18 items, it cost £25.92.

 298.
Each time they track food prices, the basket they compare changes. This is because they look to make sure products are available in every store. Foods compared included own-label free-range eggs and raspberries as well as branded products, including Chicago Town pizzas.

 299.
When you look at the prices on a monthly basis, you can see how much the prices have crept up over the year. And you can tell why it’s so difficult to budget for a grocery shop!

 300.
Cheapest supermarket in 2021

 301.
Here are the supermarkets that were cheaper over 2021:

 302.
January 2021 – Aldi and Lidl were tied – £18.45

 303.
February 2021 – Lidl – £19.13

 304.
March 2021 – Lidl – £22.48

 305.
April 2021 – Aldi – £22.64

 306.
May 2021 – Lidl – £22.66

 307.
June 2021 – Aldi – £21.61

 308.
July 2021 – Aldi – £23.59

 309.
August 2021 – Lidl – £24.11

 310.
September – Aldi – £24.03

 311.
October – Aldi – £24.24

 312.
November – Aldi – £24.64

 313.
December – Lidl – £23.29

 315.
In 2020, Lidl was named the cheapest place to shop.

 316.
It was 34p cheaper than its rival Aldi.

 317.
Ocado and Waitrose were at the bottom of the list as the most expensive supermarket.

 318.
Tracking on a month by month basis, Aldi looked like it was cheaper than Lidl. However, instead of using the monthly summaries, they tracked the 2020 lowest priced supermarket by items they could get hold of.

 360.
Their rationale?

 361.
They used MySupermarket to track pricing and, as Aldi and Lidl don’t offer online shopping, the pricing wasn’t used.

 384.
Parenting fatigue, also known as parental burnout is a mental health issue many parentsexperience. To define it simply; parenting fatigue

 385.

Parenting fatigue, also known as parental burnout is a mental health issue many parents
experience. To define it simply; parenting fatigue is when the responsibilities of parenting add
up and create excess stress that causes mental and physical health symptoms. This in turn
makes it hard to continue the role of parenting. It can be a downward cycle where the more
burnout you experience the more stress parenting causes which increases your fatigue.
Parenting fatigue can happen to all parents and they do not have to be experiencing children
who are having difficulties themselves. In John Gottman’s research, he found that two thirds of
parents will experience a drop in their relationship quality within three years of bringing their
baby home. This drop in relationship satisfaction can be due to the many types of parental
burnout.

 386.
Causes of parenting fatigue

 387.
There are many causes of parenting fatigue and many unique situations with your children, your
life factors, and other external factors. Some common causes are the stress and emotional
strain parenting can cause. A big one is the actual fatigue becoming a parenting causes. When
you bring a baby home your sleep patterns get disrupted and that continues throughout your
young child’s life. When your kids get older and they have extra curricular activities that keep
you out of the house later and eating dinner later it can cause general fatigue from long days
and being out of the house for so long. Many parents who work full time and are also trying to
balance their own activities like exercise or other hobbies and interests creates pressure to be
home and present with their kids as much as possible. The guilt of doing things for yourself and
possibly only seeing your child a few hours a day on weeknights can wear on you. I’ve worked
with many parents who have breakdowns over the fact they can’t “do it all”. I have to be honest
with them and share that no parent is able to work full time, keep their house clean, be there
with their kids all the time, make time for themselves, and to nurture their relationship. It’s not
physically possible to do this. This can be especially hard for single parents or those who are
not co-parenting with a partner in the home, you absolutely cannot do it all alone.

 388.
Consequences of fatigue

 389.
All of these stressors that cause parental fatigue then leads to many mental and physical health
issues. It’s well known that chronic stress affects our memory, you may become more forgetful
and experience brain fog, especially when your sleep has been affected. This can also lead to
symptoms of depression and anxiety; feeling like a failure leads to a low mood and worrying
about not doing the best job can create an anxious cycle. Many parents can start experiencing
isolation from friends and family when they worry about feeling judged or are too overwhelmed
to reach out. Parents often feel shame when they can’t fulfill all expectations or make a mistake.
They can experience guilt when they aren’t spending time with their kids. These symptoms can
also cause issues in your relationship and can lead to more disagreements, less time together,
and less desire and time for intimacy. It can also cause issues in your relationship with your
children; the stress can lead to less patience with them which can create a barrier in closeness.

 390.
The importance of self care

 391.
The good thing is some of this burnout can be prevented with good self care. You have to take
time for yourself to rest, get a break, and do the activities that recharge you to be there as a
parent. The metaphor of putting on your own oxygen mask on an airplane first is very fitting for
parents. You have to put on your own mask before helping your child with theirs. You need to
take breaks from parenting to be a good one. You will be much better at handling the
responsibility if you allow yourself to put you first. Hire a babysitter and take the offer from
friends and family to watch the kids when possible. Counseling can also be a great tool in
processing the emotions of parenting fatigue and a therapist can help you find the balance for
self care. It’s also important to voice your feelings to your partner, remember you’ve signed up
for this together and need to lean on each other when possible. Parenting fatigue can cause
extra conflict that can expand outside of parenting topics. Couples counseling can help you
navigate the extra stress together. It’s equally important to make time for your relationship
where you get to step out of the parenting role into the romance role. It helps to make time for
dates and quality time alone each day.

 642.

If you truly want to maximize your points and miles, periodic transfer bonuses can offer lucrative opportunities for fantastic award redemptions. You can sometimes get significantly more value from your rewards by transferring them to a specific airline or hotel partner during one of these bonuses.

 643.
However, these are limited-time offers.

 644.
We’ve compiled the transfer bonuses for the major programs with transferable rewards to make tracking these offers easier. Just note that transfer bonuses are sometimes targeted, so some may not be available to you.

 645.
Amex Membership Rewards transfer bonus

 646.
American Express has a pair of active transfer bonuses right now.

 647.
First, Amex rolled out a new transfer bonus in April. You can transfer your American Express Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club with a 30% transfer bonus from now through May 31.

 648.
Since you can typically transfer Amex Membership Rewards to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club at a 1:1 ratio, this transfer bonus raises the value of 1,000 Membership Rewards points to 1,300 Virgin points.

 649.
Additionally, the issuer is offering a 20% transfer bonus to Aeromexico Rewards through the month of May.

 650.
Membership Rewards normally transfer to Aeromexico at a 1:1.6 ratio, so the 20% boost raises that to a 1:1.92. The offer makes it so 1,000 Membership Rewards points are equivalent to 1,920 Aeromexico Rewards points. This transfer bonus will also end May 31.

 761.
TPG’s valuations peg the value of Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.84 cents each. Before transferring points, review our tests of Marriott transfer times since some airlines take a few days (or even weeks) to receive the points.

 763.
Should you transfer points?

 764.
We only recommend transferring points or miles if you have a short-term plan to use them. Many programs have implemented devaluations over the last few years, so any speculative transfers could be a losing proposition.

 765.
Transfers are irreversible, and you don’t want to be stuck with thousands of points or miles in a program you have little use for.

 766.
If you don’t have a specific redemption in mind but still want to earn points or miles, you’re likely better off earning rewards through credit card welcome bonuses and everyday spending.

 767.
Bottom line

 768.
When a program with a transferable currency offers a transfer bonus, running the numbers is important to see whether it is worthwhile.

 769.
Generally, you won’t want to transfer your points or miles without a specific redemption in mind. After all, a large part of the value of transferable points and miles comes from their flexibility — which you’ll give up the moment you convert them to a partner’s currency.

 770.
However, if you use the program frequently or plan to redeem soon, a transfer bonus can help you get more value from your points and miles.

 786.

Another Bugatti enters this spectacular car collection.

 787.
Driving is far from the only enticing aspect of hypercar ownership. Whether it’s the delivery experience, the exclusivity, or the community you become a part of by owning a hypercar, manufacturers strive to make owning their pinnacle vehicles a truly unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience, which means that even for collectors who already own hypercars, each delivery is a new special moment.

 788.
One of these collectors is known on Instagram as @davcars, and the famous Canadian car collector recently had the privilege of taking delivery of his fourth Bugatti hypercar, and the delivery of the Bugatti Chiron took place at Holman Motorcars Fort Lauderdale, a renowned purveyor of hypercars, supercars, luxury cars and exotic cars.

 789.
The stunning Bugatti is finished with a sleek, elegant matte black exterior with an interior upholstered in red leather. With its sleek, aggressive look, any onlooker could imagine its formidable performance with over 1,200 horsepower coming from its 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, an engine that is close to the end of its era, being replaced by a hybrid V16 powertrain for Bugatti’s next generation of hypercars. With a fourth Bugatti hypercar delivered to him at the end of Bugatti’s W16 era, @davcars celebrates being the owner of being yet another historic masterpiece.
