  52. <p>AYN Odin2 debuted in an Indiegogo campaign in late 2023, and virtually all the reviews it has received since then have been very favorable.  The device offered a great processor, a very good screen, a capacious battery and analog sticks based on Hall effect sensors.  The version with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB flash memory was (and still is) offered for $299.  All this makes it even now <a href="https://www.purepc.pl/tagi/handheld" target="_blank" rel="noopener">handheld</a> it is very good in terms of price/performance ratio.  AYN Technologies has been sharing limited information about its smaller brother for several days, and today we learned all the details.  In addition to a really good screen and the mentioned system, we can still count on at least 8 GB of RAM in the LPDDR5X standard, as well as at least 128 GB of fast UFS 4.0 flash memory.</p>

  173. <p>Researchers have discovered a new security vulnerability stemming from a design flaw in the IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi standard that tricks victims into connecting to a less secure wireless network and eavesdrop on their network traffic.</p>
  174. <p>The <strong>SSID Confusion attack</strong>, tracked as CVE-2023-52424, impacts all operating systems and Wi-Fi clients, including home and mesh networks that are based on WEP, WPA3, 802.11X/EAP, and AMPE protocols.</p>
  175. <p>The method &#8220;involves downgrading victims to a less secure network by spoofing a trusted network name (SSID) so they can intercept their traffic or carry out further attacks,&#8221; Top10VPN <a href="https://www.top10vpn.com/research/wifi-vulnerability-ssid/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">said</a>, which collaborated with KU Leuven professor and researcher Mathy Vanhoef.</p>
  176. <p>&#8220;A successful SSID Confusion attack also causes any VPN with the functionality to auto-disable on trusted networks to turn itself off, leaving the victim&#8217;s traffic exposed.&#8221;</p>

  178. <p>The issue underpinning the attack is the fact that the Wi-Fi standard does not require the network name (SSID or the service set identifier) to always be authenticated and that security measures are only required when a device opts to join a particular network.</p>
  179. <p>The net effect of this behavior is that an attacker could deceive a client into connecting to an untrusted Wi-Fi network than the one it intended to connect to by staging an adversary-in-the-middle (AitM) attack.</p>
  180. <p>&#8220;In our attack, when the victim wants to connect to the network TrustedNet, we trick it into connecting to a different network WrongNet that uses similar credentials,&#8221; researchers Héloïse Gollier and Vanhoef outlined. &#8220;As a result, the victim&#8217;s client will think, and show the user, that it is connected to TrustedNet, while in reality it is connected to WrongNet.&#8221;</p>
  181. <p>In other words, even though passwords or other credentials are mutually verified when connecting to a protected Wi-Fi network, there is no guarantee that the user is connecting to the network they want to.</p>

  184. <p>There are certain prerequisites to pulling off the downgrade attack &#8211;</p>
  185. <ul>
  186. <li>The victim wants to connect to a trusted Wi-Fi network</li>
  187. <li>There is a rogue network available with the same authentication credentials as the first</li>

  410. <li><strong>Preheat the Oven:</strong> Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.</li>
  411. <li><strong>Cut the Sour Cream Into the Bisquick Mix:</strong> Next, add the Bisquick to a large bowl then cut the sour cream into the Bisquick mix using the back of a fork.</li>
  412. <li><strong>Stir in the 7-up: </strong>Pour in the 7-up then stir to combine. The dough will be very soft, but if it’s too sticky then sprinkle on additional Bisquick to help handle the dough.</li>
  413. <li><strong>Cut the Biscuits: </strong>Sprinkle additional biscuit mix on the counter to gently flatten out the dough to about 1-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter to cut 9 biscuits. </li>
  414. <li><strong>Melt the Butter and Pour Into the Pan:</strong> Melt 1/4 cup butter and pour into the bottom of a 9-inch square <a href="https://www.target.com/p/wilton-ultra-bake-professional-9-nonstick-square-cake-pan/-/A-13189267#lnk=sametab" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pan</a>. Alternatively, you can melt the butter in the pan by placing it in the oven for a few minutes.</li>

With today’s launch of iOS 17.5 beta 2, that feature is now available. </p>
  613. <p>Web Distribution gives developers in the EU the ability to offer their apps for download directly from their website. Here’s how it works. </p>
  614. <p><span id="more-942988"/></p>
  615. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-web-distribution-in-the-european-union-with-ios-17-5">Web Distribution in the European Union with iOS 17.5</h2>
  616. <p>Web Distribution is the third distribution option that developers in the European Union can take advantage of in light of the Digital Markets Act. </p>
  617. <p>To use Web Distribution, developers will have to opt into the new App Store business terms, which means they will pay the <a href="https://developer.apple.com/support/core-technology-fee/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Core Technology Fee of €0.50</a> for each first annual install over one million in the past 12 months.</p>
  618. <p>Any app distributed through the web will still be required to meet Apple’s notarization guidelines. Apps can only be installed from a website domain that the developer has registered in App Store Connect. Apple will also make a number of APIs available for integration with system functionality for developers.</p>
  619. <p>In a post on its Developer website, Apple says: </p>

  621. <p>Web Distribution lets authorized developers distribute their iOS apps to users in the European Union (EU) directly from a website owned by the developer. Apple will provide developers access to APIs that facilitate the distribution of their apps from the web, integrate with system functionality, and back up and restore users’ apps, once they meet certain requirements designed to help protect users and platform integrity.</p>

  623. <p>When a user downloads an app from a developer’s website for the first time, they will be prompted with a series of screens explaining what it means to give that developer the ability to install apps from their website. </p>
  624. <p>After authenticating with Face ID to approve giving that developer permission to install apps, the user will then go through a three-step installation process for the app itself. Apple’s Notarization system means that users will see clear information about the app and how it works. This includes things like the app name, developer name, app description, screenshots, and system age rating.</p>
  625. <p>Notably, users only have to give each developer permission to install apps one time. </p>
  626. <p>For example, let’s say Meta ends up supporting the Web Distribution feature in the EU. The first time a user downloads an app from Meta, such as the Facebook app, they will be prompted to give Meta the ability to install apps on their device. Then, going forward, they will only have to approve each app installation itself.</p>
  627. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-9to5mac-s-take">9to5Mac’s Take</h2>
  628. <p>The new details provided by Apple give a good at the actual process of using Web Distribution in the European Union – including how it is balancing security and privacy with convenience. </p>
  629. <p>A viral post on <a href="https://twitter.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/1767750561359909143" target="_blank" rel="noopener">social media last week</a>, boosted by Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, claimed that it would take 15 steps to install an app using Web Distribution. With the details provided today, Apple makes it clear that’s not the case. </p>
  630. <p>The first time you install an app from a developer using Web Distribution, it’s essentially an eight-step process to authorize a developer and install the first app. Each subsequent time you install an app from that same developer, it’s a three-step process. </p>
  631. <p>For comparison’s sake, Android uses a one-time permission model when sideloading apps. While Android’s implementation requires fewer taps than Apple’s implementation, Apple provides users with more granular control for each developer. It also offers more details about each app prior to installation. </p>
  632. <p>And, in a funny twist, Apple’s implementation of Web Distribution is a significantly easier process than installing and using the Epic Games Store on the Mac. </p>
