<content:encoded><![CDATA[“Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min got angry with one of his teammates after the draw against West Ham,” British media outlet “The Spurs News” reported on the 4th (Korea Standard Time).
Tottenham won a 1-1 draw against West Ham United in the 31st round of the 2023-24 Premier League at the Olympic Stadium in London, England on the 3rd.
Brennan Johnson’s first goal in the fifth minute gave Tottenham the lead, but Kurt Zouma an equalizer in the 19th minute corner kick of the first half. Since then, both teams have failed to score additional points, sharing one point. After failing to secure a win, Tottenham maintained 57 points (17 wins, six draws, seven losses), failing to overtake Aston Villa (59 points) in the fourth place, and maintaining its fifth place.
In the match against West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min started as a forward striker and played full 90 minutes. Son displayed impactful play at the frontier by recording two shots and three chances creation until the whistle blew at the end of the match, but failed to score offensive points and thus failed to lead his team to victory.
Although the match ended in a draw, the match against West Ham was of special significance to Son. This is because it was the 400th game since joining Tottenham in August 2015.
After the game, Tottenham congratulated Son Heung-min on his achievement of the milestone, saying on the club’s SNS, “Our Captain Sonny became the 14th player in Tottenham’s history to play 400 games.”
Son Heung-min stepped out on the Premier League stage in 2015 when he moved from Bayer Leverkusen, a top-ranked club in the German Bundesliga, to Tottenham. At that time, Tottenham paid 30 million euros (about 42.9 billion won) for Son Heung-min’s transfer fee, and some expressed concern that he might have invested too much money in an Asian player, but Son Heung-min became one of the most successful recruits in Tottenham’s history.
As Son has grown every season, he has become a legend among Tottenham beyond key players. In the 2021-22 season, he became the first Asian player to top the Premier League scoring position by scoring 23 goals in the league, and became a world class striker in name and reality.
Having had a sluggish year last season with only 10 goals in the league due to orbital fracture and sports hernia, Son has successfully revived this season. So far, Son has once again become one of the best strikers in the Premier League, scoring 15 goals and eight assists this season.
In particular, in the away match of Luton Town in the 30th round, Son scored the winning goal in the 41st minute of the second half, winning 2-1 and achieving his 160th career goal for Tottenham. The only Tottenham players who have scored more goals than Son are Martin Chivers (174 goals), Bobby Smith (208 goals), Jimmy Greaves (266 goals), and Harry Kane (280 goals), who is currently playing for Bayern Munich.
Son Heung-min, who achieved the milestone of achieving his 160th career goal, has since made another important milestone in his soccer life through 400 appearances at Tottenham.
While Son Heung-min had a memorable day in his soccer life, a media outlet drew attention by claiming that his Tottenham teammate made Son Heung-min annoyed. The person who upset Son Heung-min claimed by the media was Dejan Kulusevski.
Kulusevski was replaced by James Maddison in the 25th minute of the second half with a 1-1 score against West Ham, but failed to change the outcome of the game as he failed to show any performance.
According to the soccer statistics media “Sofascore,” Kulusevski performed poorly with 21 ball touches, an 82% pass success rate (9/11), two dribbles allowed, and five turnovers for about 20 minutes.
The media also pointed out, “After the game, Tottenham captain Son Heung-min was clearly not impressed by Dejan Kulusevski,” adding, “Kulusevski played for about 20 minutes but failed to create anything in terms of aggression.”
“After the whistle at the end of the game, Son Heung-min sat on the floor, stirred his arm while saying something to Kulusevski, hit the floor hard, and got up from his seat and walked away,” he added.
A video posted on SNS after the game also showed Son Heung-min complaining to Kulusevski with hesitation on the floor, so many speculated that Son Heung-min was disappointed with Kulusevski, who came out as a substitute and showed below expectations.
Ahead of the 2023-24 season, Tottenham permanently signed Swedish winger Kulusevski. Kulusevski left Juventus during the winter transfer window in January 2022 to sign a loan deal with Tottenham for 18 months.
Since joining Tottenham, Kulusevski has been active in 18 games in the second half of the 2022-23 season, scoring five goals and eight assists, but last season he only scored two goals and eight assists in 27 games due to a calf injury. Tottenham decided to pay 30 million euros (about 42 billion won) to recruit Kulusevski permanently because of his good performance before the injury.
However, Kulusevsky’s performance this season was disappointing. Kulusevsky, who has six goals and three assists in 31 matches in all competitions so far, has not shown bad performance, but he has posted only two offensive points (one goal and one assist) in the second half of this season.
The media also said, “It is a difficult time for Kulusevski, who is receiving 110,000 pounds (about 188 million won) every week,” adding, “It got worse especially as Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner contributed to the goal from the side.”
In fact, German striker Werner, who was hired on loan during the winter transfer market in January, has two goals and three assists since moving to Tottenham, and Johnson also scored four goals and three assists in 2024, scoring more offensive points than Kulusevski.
Kulusevski, who is going through a sluggish period, also came out as a substitute against West Ham, but he was annoyed by Son Heung-min as he failed to become a game changer.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[Two brokerages acknowledged in respective Friday notes that Genting Singapore Ltd, promoter of Singapore casino complex Resorts World Sentosa, had missed quarter-on-quarter market forecasts for earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) in the fourth quarter.
The indicator fell sequentially by 31 percent on an adjusted basis, said banking group JP Morgan.
Judged year-on-year, adjusted EBITDA for the whole of 2023 was up 32.5 percent, at SGD1.03 billion (US$767.0 million), Genting Singapore had said in its full-year numbers filed on Thursday.
Banking group Nomura said it expected a “brighter” outlook for the casino firm this year and next.
“We think that the upcoming first-quarter results will be better, barring any blips in VIP hold rate, due to seasonally strongest gaming volumes, the mutual Singapore-China visa waiver starting February, non-recurring one-off items, and concert-led tourism boom,” wrote the Nomura analysts, referring latterly to supporting factors relating to Singapore’s tourism sector.
Nomura added, speaking specifically of non-gaming facilities at Resorts World Sentosa: “Attractions such as Minion Land, [Singapore] Oceanarium, lifestyle retail, and food and beverage outlets,” were due to be completed “by end-2024 and will be ready for a soft opening in early 2025, providing further growth runway”.
Though the institution also observed, referring to room accommodation due to shut on March 2 for revamp and rebranding: “On the flip side, Hard Rock Hotel will be closed for refurbishment, taking approximately 400 [room] keys out of inventory for two quarters, but average room rate should be higher once reopened as a suite hotel.”
JP Morgan said the fourth-quarter numbers for Genting Singapore were “not good, but not thesis-changing either”.
“Costs/margin disappointed with higher bad debt and reinvestments that weighed on EBITDA to miss consensus by 10 to 15 percent,” observed the institution.
Maybank Investment Bank Bhd said in a Friday memo: “Genting Singapore does not expect impairment of trade receivables to be as large, going forward.”
Analyst Samuel Yin Shao Yang added, citing management: “The aforesaid penalties and write offs will not recur.”
The bank also observed that an increase in volume of Chinese visitors since Singapore and China mutually waived visa requirements for each other’s citizens in early February, “ought to reduce the need for marketing expenses” for customers at Resorts World Sentosa.
For its part, JP Morgan stated: “We don’t feel the equity story of Genting Singapore is changing which is primarily based on ‘undemanding valuation’ even based on current run-rate, with ‘unmodelled optionality’ from the return of Chinese players near-term, and RWS 2.0 long-term.”
The latter is a reference to the expansion work at Resorts World Sentosa, agreed with the Singapore government.
In November, Genting Singapore said its board had approved a total investment of about SDG6.80 billion to upgrade and expand Resorts World Sentosa. The figure includes a previous SGD4.5-billion pledge to the city-state’s authorities for the expansion of the complex.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[Deutsche Bank Securities Inc estimates Macau’s 2024 casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) will rise by 20.6 percent year-on-year, to the equivalent of just over US$27.62 billion.
The institution thinks most of the improvement will be driven by mass-market GGR, which it forecasts to expand by 23.7 percent year-on-year, to nearly US$21.34 billion. It estimates VIP GGR will be up 11.0 percent from 2023, at just under US$6.29 billion.
Direct comparison between the operational-margin significance of pre-pandemic mass GGR in 2019 and mass GGR currently, is made difficult due to what some industry commentators say is subsequent migration possibly of some former VIP junket players to the so-called premium mass segment.
Due to other market developments, much Macau GGR booked in the pre-pandemic era as VIP, is understood to have been largely generated via junkets, whereas now, more VIP GGR is in likelihood coming from house-managed VIPs, which might yield a margin for the casino operator not directly comparable with junket-managed ones.
Brokerage CLSA Ltd stated in a Tuesday report that for now in 2024, Macau market developments regarding the cost of doing business – including marketing to players via “rebates” – and the scope of sequential expansion of operators’ margin on earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) “will likely remain as key investor focuses”.
But as per Deutsche Bank’s data, its 2024 estimate for mass GGR would represent 108.5 percent of the 2019 level. Its VIP GGR forecast for this year would be only 37.1 percent of 2019 VIP GGR.
Macau’s casino GGR for calendar year 2023 was MOP183.06 billion (US$22.71 billion currently). That figure was up by 333.8 percent year-on-year, coinciding with the lifting in January last year of most travel restrictions between Macau and its main tourism-customer markets of mainland China and Hong Kong.
Macau’s 2023 GGR was 62.6 percent of 2019′s MOP292.46 billion, a trading period immediately before the pandemic.
CLSA said that its Macau research for early 2024 indicated “hotel bookings are fast picking up again”. It stated: “At four weeks out from Chinese New Year weekend – 10 to 11 February – our four-week leading average hotel prices are already 27 percent higher year-on-year.”
The institution added that “10 out of the 33 operating hotels” it tracked were already “fully booked that weekend”.
Macau’s daily casino GGR across the first 14 days of January was estimated at MOP8.6 billion, translating to what JP Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Ltd termed a “robust run rate” of MOP614 million per day, versus December’s MOP599 million per day.
“While GGR is due to slow down seasonally for the balance of month ahead of Chinese New Year, we expect January to print MOP17.5 billion to MOP18 billion,” added the brokerage in a Monday memo.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[Donaco International, the Australian-listed operator of several Asian casinos, said its quarterly results for the December 31 period were “significantly stronger” than those for the four months from July to October.
The company said in a trading update to the Australian Stock Exchange on Tuesday. The company plans to release official results for the six-month period from Feb. 27 to Dec. 31.
The company reported losses after A$124.5 million in taxes for the fiscal year ended June 30. In December, the board said it would begin a strategic review of up to three months to investigate how to release cash from the business.
Donaco’s results have been influenced by several factors in recent years, the company said. In addition, in early December, the group announced that Joey Lim Keong Yew, a member of the family that founded Genting Bhd, and Donaco’s managing director and CEO, had received a three-month leave to address “health and personal issues.”
Challenges facing the company include a legal dispute over allegations of unfair competition allegedly executed by a Thai supplier of Star Vegas Resort and Club (pictured) in Poipet, Cambodia. The venue is particularly targeted at gamblers from neighboring Thailand, where casinos are illegal.
In an update on Tuesday, Donaco said of Star Vegas, “net profit for the December 2018 quarter was THB 421.28 million [US$13.3 million], compared to THB 470.25 million earned in the four months to October 2018.”
In addition, Starvegas posted December 2018 quarterly earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), which was “well above” EBITDA’s THB169.35 million reported in the four months to Oct. 31, it added.

This year’s Tour Stop will have a total of six tournaments from March 2-9, including a two million Hong Kong dollar ($255,000) No Limit Holdham main event.
The organizers said in a press release that the players confirmed as a stopover for the Jeju Shinhwa World Tour include Phil Ivey, a 10-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, and Mikita Badzaikouski, the defending champion of the 2018 Normit Holdum Super High Roller Series main event in Jeju.
