According to the Korea Volleyball Association, Kim’s national retirement match will be held on June 8 and 9 at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul. On June 8, Korean stars such as Kim Soo-ji (Heungkuk Life), Yang Hyo-jin (Hyundai E&C), Bae Yuna (Korea Expressway Corporation), Kim Hee-jin (IBK), Kim Hae-ran, Han Song-i (retired), and others will gather to play a retirement match followed by a retirement ceremony.
On June 9, the Kim Yeon-kyung Invitational World Women’s Volleyball All-Star Game will be held. <content:encoded><![CDATA[Singapore casino resort Marina Bay Sands (MBS) is to host a career fair on March 3 and 4 for positions at the property. The resort’s management said in a press release that this year it would have around 1,000 full-time, temporary and internship positions available across 70 departments, including casino operations.
The update said a career fair held last year for the complex, resulted in over 1,800 interviews being conducted “on the spot”.
Marina Bay Sands (pictured), run by Las Vegas Sands Corp, is one half of Singapore’s casino duopoly.
The announcement said the venue was “recruiting diverse talents to strengthen its 11,500-strong workforce”.
The property cited Chan Yit Foon, senior vice president for human resources, as saying: “Our two-day career fair is a key highlight each year, with informative talks and booths for jobseekers to learn more about a potential hospitality career at Marina Bay Sands.”
“We have always been an equal opportunity employer and look forward to strengthening our diverse and inclusive workforce through the fair,” she added.
The roles include as staff at resort attractions or museum operations, butler services, casino operations and cybersecurity work. Other opportunities encompass the facilities, food and beverage, guest services and transportation departments.
The operator of the Marina Bay Sands is currently carrying out a US$750-million revamp of the complex’s Tower 3, as well as the property’s hotel lobby, and the rooftop Sands SkyPark. Las Vegas Sands has said it expects to make available to the public the revamped rooms of Tower 3 early next year.
That work is supplementary to the US$1-billion invested in the renovation of Tower 1 and Tower 2 of the property.
The Singapore room revamp is separate from the group’s commitment to the city-state’s authorities to invest at least SGD4.5 billion (US$3.3 billion) on expansion of the property. That enlargement will include development of a fourth hotel tower with about 587 rooms.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[Macau expects a daily average of 120,000 visitors to the city in the eight days of the mainland’s Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday starting on February 10, said on Thursday the city’s tourism boss. That would be at least 50 percent more than the up to 80,000 seen on weekdays so far in January, as cited by Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) director.
The daily average during the weekends had already been over “100,000”, noted the official. Macau had 114,000 arrivals daily, even during the Christmas season of December 23 to 26, which is not a holiday on the Chinese mainland. The lower-end daily figure during January so far had been 70,000.
Ms Senna Fernandes also mentioned in comments to local media on the sidelines of a public event, that for the whole of 2024, Macau aims for “33 million” visitor arrivals, or circa 17 percent more than in 2023. A tally of 33 million would represent an 84-percent recovery in the visitor market relative to 2019, when the city recorded circa 39.4-million arrivals.
The city had circa 28.23 million visitors in full-year 2023, i.e., about 77,000 daily, said the tourism bureau in early January. The official data for 2023 are yet to be announced by the city’s Statistics and Census Service.
Macau is overwhelmingly a market for mainland China and Hong Kong visitors. But the city’s tourism authority is seeking – in line with local government policy – to diversify the market structure by bringing in more travellers from overseas.
On Thursday Ms Senna Fernandes mentioned work being done to draw tourists from Northeast and Southeast Asia, with the help of elements such as “roadshows” in places including Thailand and Malaysia, within the first half of this year. MGTO was also targeting side trips to Macau by transit travellers and others using neigbouring Hong Kong’s much bigger airport.
Her office additionally plans to launch marketing campaigns on the Chinese mainland in the second half of the year, to boost tourism from that market.
Brokerage CLSA Ltd said in a Tuesday report on Macau, that “hotel bookings are fast picking up again”. It stated: “At four weeks out from [opening] Chinese New Year weekend – 10 to 11 February – our four-week leading average hotel prices are already 27 percent higher year-on-year.”
The institution added that “10 out of the 33 operating hotels” it tracked were already “fully booked that weekend”.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[The Australian operator of Asian Casino Silver Heritage Group said there had been more than $1.47 million in net cash outflows from operations in the fourth quarter of last year, with such outflows reaching nearly $4.85 million in all operations in 2018.
The operating update submitted to the Australian Stock Exchange on Thursday gave no comparative figures.

Silver Heritage said: “The Company has commenced discussions with the owner and, as a result of these discussions, renegotiated and amended the agreement with Phoenix in light of increased competition and other factors.”
The company said it had reduced its share of gaming gross revenue (GGR) to 30% in exchange for “significantly reduced” fixed cost contributions to Phoenix International Club operations.
“The company now focuses on this reduction in fixed costs and the decline in properties and expects earnings to improve in the coming months,” it said, referring to the number of customers paying for properties and later.
Silver Heritage said facilities operated by millionaire clubs and casinos in Nepal, Kathmandu and Kathmandu “continue to perform ahead of budget, and so far January has been a record in terms of declines and GGRs in the month of January since opening.”
The company said Tiger Palace Resort, on the border between Nepal and India, has made many strategic changes to its marketing and operations with its own properties developed and operated.
December and January are constantly improving, the second and third highest months since the casino opened on Dec. 28, 2018, respectively. The board and management are focused on further improvements to support growth, including the opening of a new marketing initiative and three VIP gaming rooms in February 2019 to generate additional revenue for the property
Silver Heritage told the stock exchange: “The company continues to engage in discussions with potential strategic and industrial partners to unleash capital from its asset base and increase shareholder value.”
The company noted in a business update filed late last year that it was exploring the possibility of, among other things, selling some of its land.

The loss in the three months to Dec. 31 was just over 17.07 billion won (about $15.2 million), a sharp drop from the same period last year (11.8 billion won).
The group did not elaborate on why its quarterly losses last year-on-year.
However, Paradise Sega Sammy, which operates Paradise City Casino Resort (pictured) near Incheon International Airport, a major airport in Seoul, pointed out that its net loss in the quarter widened significantly to 42.46 billion won compared to 3.1 billion won in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Paradise Segasammi is a partnership between Paradise and Japan Segasammi Holdings. Paradise has a stake in the partnership.
The company said its “operating expenses” have come into play since Paradise City’s first phase and second phase opened on Sept. 21 last year. In November, it announced that a theme park will open in Paradise City in the first half of this year.
The company noted in its latest earnings that Paradise City, which was launched in April 2017, hit a new quarterly record high in the fourth quarter of 2018, or the amount players received before deducting their prize money. Paradise City’s quarterly casino sales were 71.88 billion won, up 16.6% from the nearly 61.66 billion won casino decline recorded in the fourth quarter of 2017.
On a separate basis, Seoul’s Paradisco casino chief Walkerhill and Jeju Grand on Jeju Island posted casino sales of 104.2 billion won in the fourth quarter, up 10.1% year-on-year.
The port city of Paradise Hotel Busan of the same name recorded 21 billion won in general sales during the period, up 2.0 percent from a year earlier, and according to another chart, casino sales reached 20 billion won. Walkerhill’s casino sales were about 80.7 billion won, while Jeju Grand’s sales in the last quarter of 2018 were about 7.4 billion won.
Judging by year, Paradise Co., Ltd.’s net loss in 2018 decreased from KRW 189.5 billion to KRW 10.97 billion annually in 2017.
If you look at Paradise’s fourth-quarter ‘soft drop’, which is the amount that customers exchanged for chips at the game table, it totaled just under KRW 1.61 trillion.
Among the quarterly soft drops, Chinese VIP players accounted for W541 billion, Japanese high rollers accounted for W475 billion, and other market VIPs accounted for W314 billion. Popular market players contributed W277 billion.
