The San Francisco Giants’ South Korean rookie Lee Jung-hoo has missed the series finale against the Colorado Rockies with a foot injury.Lee was held out of the starting lineup at Coors Field in Denver on Thursday (local time) with a sore left foot. He fouled a ball off his foot during his final at-bat in Wednesday’s game. He stayed on and ended up flying out.According to the Giants, Lee woke up Thursday morning with some soreness in the foot and ended up missing his third game of his rookie campaign.
Giants manager Bob Melvin told MLB.com that Lee was receiving treatment and would be reevaluated Friday before the Giants open a weekend series at home against the Cincinnati Reds.Without Lee on the field, the Giants lost 9-1.Lee is tied with Michael Conforto for the team lead with 38 hits. “Hansik,” or Korean food, continues to gain awareness internationally with soju (a Korean clear distilled alcoholic drink) and bibimbap (rice mixed with meat and vegetables) leading the surge in popularity, according to the latest Korean Food Promotion Institute findings.The institute’s “2023 Overseas Korean Food Consumer Survey,” conducted on 9,000 adults in 18 major cities worldwide from last August to October, indicated a growing appetite for Korean flavors and culinary traditions globally.Soju has emerged as the most recognized Korean alcoholic beverage among international consumers.

Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul will visit China early next week for talks with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, the foreign ministry said Friday, marking the first trip to Beijing by a South Korean top diplomat in more than six years.Cho’s two-day trip to Beijing from Monday through Tuesday comes as South Korea faces the task of managing the relationship with China that has soured amid Seoul’s strong alignment with the United States under the Yoon Suk Yeol government.It will mark the first visit to China by a South Korean foreign minister since November 2017, when then Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha paid a visit during the administration of then President Moon Jae-in.His visit also comes ahead of a widely expected trilateral summit among the leaders of South Korea, China and Japan that Seoul seeks to capitalize on to boost the three-way cooperation with its Asian neighbors. The summit is most likely to take place from May 26-27.Cho will discuss with Wang “issues of common interest, from bilateral relations, the trilateral summit and the Korean Peninsula, to regional and global issues,” the ministry said in a press release.Cho also plans to have a meeting with South Korean businesspeople working in China and discuss ideas and efforts on how to bolster bilateral business exchanges with Beijing.

LG Electronics will support its partner companies in enhancing their environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) management capabilities, especially in reducing carbon emissions, so as to achieve win-win growth, the company said, Monday.By 2030, LG Electronics hopes to reduce carbon emissions by 54.6 percent compared to 2017 by improving manufacturing processes, introducing energy-saving technology and the use of renewable energy. With these efforts, the company consequently aims to achieve carbon neutrality and obtain Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits.In 2015, the company became the first in the home appliance industry to receive carbon credits from the United Nations.The company has continued its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain and implement carbon emission reduction targets for the product use phase of Scope 3, which refers to the indirect emissions generated in a company’s supply chain.
To help its partners utilize its know-how in reducing carbon emissions, LG will support in consulting for carbon emissions reduction for 15 partners this year.This is to help them achieve better ESG management. The company added that it will conduct the consulting program until June to identify areas for improvement and cooperate with the firms to enhance risk management capabilities. Korean literature is experiencing a surge in popularity across the United Kingdom, driven by a shift in literary preferences among a young and diverse readership.According to the 2023 International Booker Prize, sales of translated fiction increased 22 percent in 2022, compared to the previous year. This uptick is particularly notable among young readers under the age of 35, indicating a generational shift in literary preferences.In response to this growing interest, Penguin Random House UK is expanding its selection of translated literature, with plans to release six titles from Korea this year.The lineup of Korean translated works set for release by Penguin Random House UK in 2024 features several exciting titles. Fictional offerings include “The Rainfall Market” by You Yeong-gwang, which has achieved cult status in Korea, “The Healing Season of Pottery” by Yeon So-min, “Snowglobe” by Park So-young and “Marigold Mind Laundry” by Yun Jung-eun. The publishing company will also feature two essays — “I Decided to Live as Me” by Kim Soo-hyun, a million-copy bestseller in Korea and a favorite of BTS’s Jungkook, and “If You Live to 100, You Might As Well Be Happy” by Rhee Kun-hoo. “The most popular area of translated fiction from Korea has come to be labelled ‘healing fiction’ which is designed to soothe the reader, as it explores contemporary issues around mental health and the pressures of daily life, which are relatable across all cultures,” Penguin Random House said in a statement.
In an interview, Yun, the author of “Marigold Mind Laundry,” noted that she hopes the experience of reading her books will bring comfort and happiness, underscoring the therapeutic quality of her work.Rosa Schierenberg, editorial director at Penguin General, who will be publishing “The Healing Season of Pottery” this autumn, said, “We know that readers across genres are looking for an escape, whether into a different world or simply a different culture.
