For decades, many believed dogs saw the world only in shades of black and white – yet while experts now know dogs are red/green colourblind, only one in five (21%) pet owners are aware that their beloved pups actually see in shades of yellow and blue.

New research1 reveals that almost three in 10 (28%) dog owners incorrectly assume dogs see all the colours humans see, and one in six (16%) still believe in the old black and white myth.

The research, conducted by Agria Pet Insurance, revealed that while a dog’s eyes topped the chart as their owner’s best-loved feature, and even though 74% of owners would love to see the world through their dog’s eyes, three in five (61%) don’t know that colour can affect how dogs behave, so aren’t taking advantage of its benefits.

Younger generations appear to know more about dog vision, with almost a third (30%) of Gen Z aware dogs can only see in blue and yellow. Older generations were less aware, with a fifth of Millennials (21%) and just one in six (17%) of Gen X able to specify dogs can see blue/yellow.

Interestingly, Northerners appear more knowledgeable – owners from Leeds and Manchester were the most clued in, with one in three (30% and 28% respectively) aware that dogs only see blue/yellow, while the south lagged behind, with 32% of London dog owners incorrectly assuming that their dog sees all the colours that humans see.

A collage of people walking a dogAI-generated content may be incorrect.

Despite their lack of knowledge, dog owners have good intentions when it comes to giving their pets a healthy lifestyle and enjoyable environment. After learning about dog vision, 69% said they would purchase toys, bedding or accessories in blue or yellow, with 78% admitting that they would be willing to spend more on items in colours their dog can see clearer.

In fact, with over 13 million dog owners in the UK2, Brits are collectively spending more than £2.4 billion a year on their dog’s toys, enrichment tools and activities. While dogs cost their owners £191 a year on average for these enrichment purchases, younger generations are spending more with those aged 25-34 dishing out £242 a year, compared to just £88 for owners over 55.

While well-being is important to owners, the data revealed that close to three in 10 (28%) wish they had more time or ideas for providing their dogs with enrichment.

Almost half (43%) worry their dog is bored or lacking in mental stimulation, and 17% feel guilty that they don’t do enough to mentally enrich their dog’s day-to-day life beyond meals and walks.

The average amount of time dog owners spend actively playing with or training their dog is just 41 minutes a day. Shockingly, nearly half (44%) only spend 15-30 minutes a day actively engaging with their pet in this way.

Women are more likely to take their dog on daily walks, play with toys and games, and visit dog-friendly locations with their pets, while men are more likely to use professional walking and daycare services, and take their dogs to organised activities like dog-friendly festivals, organised walks and breed meets.

One in 10 dog owners (9%) admit they hadn’t even thought about their dog’s mental stimulation before, suggesting a wider knowledge gap regarding the holistic well-being of pets.

Following its survey findings, Agria aims to educate dog owners on how their pets’ vision can influence their behaviour and interaction with their environment, so owners can create more enriching and enjoyable lifestyle for their animals.

The ever-reining queen of burlesque, Dita Von Teese, is set to return to the UK’s grand stages in early 2026, captivating audiences with her most enchanting show to date: Nocturnelle.

Dita Von Teese will be visiting Manchester, London, Birmingham, Stockton and Edinburgh across January & February 2026 and due to demand extra shows have been added in London on Saturday 31 January and Birmingham on Friday 6 February.

Tickets are on sale now via www.myticket.co.uk

With Nocturnelle, Dita unveils a bewitching new vision—an exquisite blend of old-Hollywood allure, theatrical magic, and the high-art “Stripscapes” Dita is known for. Inspired by the magicians of the 19th century, this production conjures a world of wonder where sensuality meets magic. Tickets for this exclusive 11-date UK tour are on sale now.

The Nocturnelle tour follows Dita’s record-breaking Glamonatrix tour which remains the biggest touring burlesque show of all time, spanning multiple continents over a five year period. Renowned for producing the most lavish touring burlesque shows in history, Von Teese raises the bar yet again with a production that is opulent, and richly imaginative. Often imitated but never duplicated, Dita remains in a class of her own. Dita’s shows have most recently been attended by Harry Styles, Jean Paul Gaultier, Olivia Wilde, Tim Burton, Pamela Anderson, Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks, Josh Groban, Prince Albert II of Monaco, and the great Golden Age star, Leslie Caron.

“Nocturnelle is my most glambitious show yet,” says Von Teese. “It’s where sophisticated striptease meets the spellbinding art of illusion. Learning from master magicians and diving into the secrets of vintage magic, I set out to create something uniquely enchanting… it’s the art of the Teese, plus a little trickery, and a whole lot of glitz.”

Dita Von Teese is internationally recognized as the Queen of Burlesque, having set a history-making benchmark for this great American art form, with unrivaled artistry and flair as performer, creative director, choreographer and producer. Her sensational spectaculars, along with her current residency at The Venetian, present a gender- and body-diverse cast of the crème de la crème of neo-burlesque performers, hailing from all over the world—and always celebrating the spirit of joie de vivre so dear to Dita Von Teese.

Nine clubs have submitted full formal applications for consideration for inclusion in an expanded 14-team Betfred Super League in 2026.
The deadline for submissions was Friday (September 12) at close of business.
The applications will now be considered by the seven-strong Panel that was appointed last month, with a decision to announced on the composition of next season’s Super League on Thursday October 16.
The first 12 positions will be determined by the Club Grading process, as for the 2025 season, with the Panel to decide whether there are sufficiently strong applications to add another two clubs to form a 14-team competition in 2026.
The nine applications include two from existing Betfred Super League clubs – Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC.
The other seven are from clubs in the Betfred Championship, as follows (in alphabetical order): Bradford Bulls, Doncaster, London Broncos, Oldham, Toulouse Olympique, Widnes Vikings, York Knights.
Lord Caine will chair the Panel, joined by two fellow non-executive RFL directors – Abi Ekoku and Dermot Power – plus Tony Sutton and the RFL’s interim Head of Legal Graeme Sarjeant; Rugby League Commercial’s Managing Director Rhodri Jones; and Peter Hutton, the senior independent non-executive director of RL Commercial who is also a Super League (Europe) Board member.
In addition to the five pillars under which clubs are judged in the Club Grading System (Fandom, Performance, Finances, Stadium and Community), the panel will judge applications against a further set of criteria relating to Finance and Sustainability and playing strength.
These include their financial performance in 2025; detailed financial performance and sustainability forecasts for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 seasons; and their ability to field a competitive team in 2026 and beyond.
For the latter, analysis will be provided by the RFL’s England Performance Unit.

Responding to NHS England’s announcement of ‘stress test’ exercises to “winter-proof” the health service, Royal College of Emergency Medicine President Dr Ian Higginson said:

“The NHS, and in particular the Emergency Care system, is already stress tested on a daily basis. The results are evident – in all the available data and experiences of our patients and staff.

“It will be interesting to see what these planned tests actually are, what they will measure, and what they will evidence that we don’t know already, but most importantly whether they will actually improve anything.

“The results of the tests must be published, so their effectiveness and impact can be determined and any winter plans amended accordingly before it is too late.

“We and our members are deeply concerned about the overall state of Urgent and Emergency Care as we head into what is looking likely to be another tricky winter.

“We must see a thorough, evidence-based and data-driven plan for the coming months which translates to improvements in our departments and for our patients.

“Without action, not just paper exercises, ill and vulnerable people will continue to be stuck on trolleys in corridors, with all the awful consequences that result.”

On the eve of London anti-immigration protests, the UK Inclusive Sourcing Summit 2025 Conference, organised by Minority Supplier Diversity Network UK (MSDUK) and the UK’s leading advocacy groups, delivered a powerful message: ethnic minority-owned businesses (EMBs) are critical drivers of the UK’s economic growth and innovation.

Research presented at the Summit shows that EMBs contribute £25–£74 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) annually, employ over three million people, and pay nearly £5 billion in corporation tax in the UK. EMBs also outperform peers on innovation, with 30% reporting innovation activity, compared to just 11% of non-EMBs (1), reinforcing their role in driving UK competitiveness and supply chain resilience. Crucially, a 1% uplift in SME growth could inject an additional £2.5 billion into the UK economy, highlighting the untapped potential of greater inclusion.

Held on 11–12 September at London’s historic Guildhall, the Summit attracted nearly 600 attendees and connected more than 300 small and diverse businesses with senior executives from global organisations including the City of London Corporation, Cabinet Office, Accenture, Amazon, Nationwide, Monzo, Nestlé, EY, and Siemens.

A first-of-its-kind UK summit, organised in partnership with MSDUK, OutBritain, Social Enterprise UK, Veteran UK, and WEConnect International, it celebrated standout small and diverse business success stories, such as Gibbs Consulting, Europe’s largest ethnic minority owned business and Combat2Coffee, a veteran-led social enterprise supported by England Captain Terry Butcher.

Renowned Olympian Kriss Akabusi MBE delivered a rousing keynote on teamwork, resilience, and collaboration, inspiring delegates to work collectively towards a more inclusive economy.

Roundtables hosted by EY, Nestlé, and RBC Royal Bank gave small and diverse businesses the opportunity to share procurement challenges and propose solutions directly to major corporate buyers. In addition, panel discussions explored legislative changes, onboarding requirements, reporting challenges, and the broader business case for engaging small and diverse businesses, helping both corporates and suppliers align on practical steps for inclusion.

Commenting on the event, Reshma Sheikh, Managing Director of MSDUK: “Recent immigration protests have exposed systemic challenges faced by minority communities. This year’s conference set out to counter that narrative by showcasing the remarkable contributions of ethnic minority-owned businesses and demonstrating how supplier diversity fosters sustainable practices and drives economic growth.”

Looking ahead, MSDUK will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2026, with plans to further scale its mission of building a truly inclusive economy.

As Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale releases this weekend, leading etiquette expert Laura Windsor has unveiled a Downton-inspired etiquette guide for cinemagoers.

Laura – trained by a former member of the Royal Household and advisor to Royal families – sets out the golden rules of cinema conduct, from switching off mobiles to avoiding noisy snacks and keeping feet firmly off the seats.

Her video guide, filmed with Showcase Cinemas helps show how the Crawleys themselves might expect audiences to behave.

This comes as Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, starring Hugh Bonneville and Paul Giamatti, releases today – marking the cinematic return of the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the 1930s, embracing change and welcoming a new chapter.

To celebrate the movie’s release, Showcase Cinemas has unveiled new research revealing three quarters of Brits (74%) believe manners were better back in the Downton era, while four in five (81%) would welcome a formal “cinema etiquette code.”

The UK’s top 10 most annoying cinema habits were also revealed, with mobile use (82%), talking (79%) and feet on seats (66%) topping the list.

Laura said: “The manners in the UK have definitely taken somewhat of a downward turn in recent years, and that’s reflected by three quarters of those surveyed believing manners were better back in the Downton days. What’s more, many want cinemas to adopt a Downton-style etiquette code.”

Laura, known as the “Queen of Etiquette”, is helping to set the standard for cinemagoers watching Downton this weekend with a handy video guide showing best practice when enjoying a film in front of the big screen.

TOP TEN MOST ANNOYING CINEMA HABITS:
USING MOBILE PHONES (82%)
TALKING OR WHISPERING (79%)
PUTTING FEET ON SEATS (66%)
KICKING THE BACK OF SEATS (64%)
EATING LOUD SNACKS (62%)
LEAVING RUBBISH BEHIND (55%)
PEOPLE SITTING IN THE WRONG SEAT (44%)
ARRIVING LATE (43%)
LAUGHING TOO LOUDLY (37%)
PDA (29%)

According to the data, millions of cinemagoers have little patience for those with poor cinema etiquette, with over a third (36%) admitting they’ve told someone off during a film because of poor behaviour.

Cinemagoers at Showcase this weekend will be hoping Downton fans exhibit the best possible etiquette, while enjoying a special edition afternoon cream tea including scones, cream, jam and macarons – launched to celebrate the movie’s release.

Jon Dixon, UK Marketing Director at Showcase Cinemas, said: “The cinema is a shared experience, and our research shows customers simply want respectful behaviour from everyone.

“Downton Abbey is the epitome of British manners, so it felt only right to partner with Laura Windsor to reveal the top tips to ensure you, and everyone else, can enjoy the big screen experience.”

Today, multiplatinum-selling chart-topping Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix & two-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist, DJ and producer Sebastian Ingrosso joined forces to release “Peace of Flood” via Ingrosso’s label, SUPERHUMAN & Garrix’s label STMPD RCRDS – listen here.

“Peace of Flood” is an edit of two previously released original tracks: Garrix’s collaboration with Citadelle, “Peace of Mind,” and “Flood” by Sebastian Ingrosso. The electronic synths and a pulsating beat of “Peace of Mind” brought together with the dark house tension of “Flood,” creates a captivating listen. “Peace of Flood” is already a staple in Swedish House Mafia and Sebastian Ingrosso’s sets, and throughout Martin’s summer tour.

Labour Lord Glasman: Sir Keir Starmer has six months to prove he has got the right stuff to be Prime Minister

Sir Keir Starmer has six months to prove that he has got what it takes to be Prime Minister, a leading Labour peer who is close to figures in 10 Downing St has said.

Lord Glasman, the founder of the Blue Labour group which represents Labour supporters in areas targeted by Reform UK, told GB News’ Chopper’s Political Podcast that Starmer “may or may not” survive as leader at the next election expected in 2029.

The peer said: “What I see with him is that he genuinely wants to be a national leader. … he’s making a drastic transition from being basically a human rights lawyer to being a national politician, being a prime minister. The next six months will be decisive for him.”

Asked by presenter Christopher Hope whether he will lead the party into the next election, he said: “He may or he may not. That’s always true of politicians, by the way. Nobody predicted Thatcher going, Blair went. You know they come in they [go].”

Lord Glasman also paid tribute to Yvette Cooper, who was moved from Home Secretary to Foreign Secretary in the reshuffle, saying that he was much more Eurosceptic than previously thought.

He said: ” She represents a Yorkshire constituency where Reform is very strong and the sentiment of Euroscepticism has been very strong for a long time. She has engaged with that. She’s talked to that.

“So I actually think that she’s a tougher prospect at the Foreign Office. The way that I see it is that in the next six months, we’ve got to really get tougher with France.”

Cork risers Pebbledash announce the upcoming EP To Cast the Sea in Concrete (5th November) & release anticipated new single ‘Tiles & Moss’. Having gained widespread acclaim across tastemaker press and support across BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X and RTE, the single comes ahead of the band’s stint as part of The So Young Tour.

Recorded by Cathal MacGabhann (Altered Hours) mixed by Andy Killian (Pretty Happy) the new single showcases more of the band’s unique blend of post-punk aesthetics, blended with emotive shoegaze and grunge tendencies. Capturing the essence of Pebbledash’s evolving sound, encapsulating a year of growth, change, and reflection for the band, ‘Tiles & Moss’ highlights Pebbledash’s continued evolution, blending atmospheric tendencies with an undertone of Irish folk and a gritty, grungey finish.

The track opens with a wall of crunching guitars, swelling drones, and propulsive drums, before descending into a shadowed verse where the band entwines their signature dual vocals, ghosting in and out of one another until they resolve into a luminous harmony. As it unfolds, tension simmers beneath the surface, gathering momentum, until the closing moments surge into a climactic finale: guitars roaring beneath delicate, whimsical lead vocals that shimmer like light breaking through a storm.

Talking about the ‘Tiles and Moss’, Cormac Donovan O’Neill explains: “It was vital to us that when we brought Tiles and Moss to the studio, we would do it justice, as it’s been a stalwart of our live set for so long. As a song, we’ve always felt it’s quintessential Pebbledash, exploring so many sides of what makes up our musical DNA – the lurching, serrated texture of the guitars combined with Fionnbharr’s rapid-fire lyrical delivery recalling an Isn’t Anything-era my bloody valentine, Schuch’s pared-back drumbeat reminiscent of Sister or Daydream Nation. Spending four days in the studio living with these tracks encouraged us to really dig into the potential of these arrangements’ textural elements; underpinning Tiles and Moss you can hear the low hum and wheeze of a charity shop-find harmonium breathing throughout, that acoustic voice meshing in with the synthesiser, as much evoking Neu and Cluster as it does the sonorous pipes of Paddy Keenan and Liam O’Flynn.”

The song’s lyrics are done in the style of a murder balled but rather than a traditional balled of this style we took a more introspective focus trying to address self irritation or contempt and overcoming this frustration throughout the song, its a battle im sure most people are familiar with this vicious cycle of self sabotage and we articulate that struggle here!”

Pebbledash have built a growing reputation as both a live band and on record. Building a whole host of acclaim, including support across BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X (X-Posure Hot One), RTE (online, 2FM), Clash, Dork, Hot Press, Nialler9, Psychedelic Baby Magazine, Far Out, District Magazine and Golden Plec among others, the band have also become a firm favourite of So Young, appearing among the magazine’s tracks of the year and playing live So Young nights. The band has also gained significant Spotify Editorial playlist support, appearing on Hot New Bands, melomainia, Breathe of Fresh Eire and Fresh Finds to name a few.

This December, The Man From Delmonte will celebrate the launch of their new studio album with their biggest reunion show yet, returning to Manchester’s O2 Ritz for the first time in over three-and-a-half decades.

In November 1989, indie-pop outfit The Man From Delmonte played a hometown show at the historic Ritz. 35 years later, the legendary Manchester band are set to return to the venue for their biggest reunion show yet, bringing classics like “(Will Nobody Save) Louise” and “Water in My Eyes” to audiences this festive season, as well as launching their brand new studio album.

The Man From Delmonte reformed earlier this year, playing their first shows together since 1990 and selling out the iconic Band on the Wall within 12 minutes. “Totally stunned by the reaction to the gigs,” said drummer Howard Goody. Now, the band are taking their reunion shows to the next level with a huge album launch party at the Ritz, accompanied by special guests The Mudd Club, Pageant Mum and DJ Phil Korbel.

“The vibe I’m aiming for is like when Twin Peaks came back after 25 years,” said vocalist Mike West on the reunion, “exciting, disturbing and confusing in equal parts.” The launch party will take place on 21st December, and tickets are on sale now.

About The Man From Delmonte

The Man From Delmonte were legendary between 1988 and 1991.

Selling out 3000 capacity venues, hitting the top of the indie charts and booking Inspiral Carpets and 808 State as their opening acts, Mike West, Sheila Seal, Martin Vincent and Howard Goody delivered classic pop tunes, including “Water in My Eyes’ and “My Love is Like a Gift” that were lyrically ahead of their time. Mike wrote and sang about loving men just as easily has he did about relationships with women. The audiences always loved it. The press often treated them with outright biphobia.

After a chance conversation with TV presenter Iain Lee, TMFB are returning to the stage. Their first reunion gig at Band on the Wall sold out in 12 minutes. The Manchester Academy 2 sold out in days. Original manager Jon Ronson (‘The Psychopath Test’, ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats’) flew over from the US to introduce them at the first show and comedian Chris Addison was seen dancing on stage with the band.

Over 600 copies of the double CD reissue of their two albums, ‘Big Noise’ and ‘Good Things in Life’, have been bought by fans desperate to get their hands on anything TMFD related. The O2 Ritz is the biggest gig of the reunion and will be a double celebration. It’s 36 years since they last played at the venue, and it will also mark the launch party for their brand new studio album.
