To celebrate the news, Alaska Reid and Dylan Fraser enchant with their new single ‘Changeling’ – the first since their breakout debut EP Beast released earlier this year.

The track leans into Witch Post’s widescreen: big power chords, crashing drums, and an explosive chorus that feels ripped from a dream of ‘90s arena rock. But true to form, Witch Post cast their own spell, twisting the familiar into something eerily seductive and emotionally raw, leaving a song that feels like a grunge-rock anthem touched by something spectral.

With ‘Changeling’, the band leave a note:

“We met a changeling that inspired this song. We didn’t realise it ’till a year later…

Once knew a changeling Julie was her name
Foxglove & roses painted tears on her face
I knew she was restless, I knew she had pain
Then she tried to consume me we were never the same”

Witch Post is a Gemini-like meeting of minds that happened entirely by chance (or fate, if you prefer). In another stroke of coincidence, they discovered they are from towns which share the same name – one in Scotland, the other in Montana. Alaska’s music is drawn from the dark atmospherics of the American indie scene, and Dylan’s is pop but if it were warped by a house of mirrors.

The duo sparked intrigue through early singles like ‘Chill Out’ and ‘Rust’ which earned praise from The Line of Best Fit, DORK, PAPER, Clash, Notion, Wonderland and Stereogum among many more, announcing them as one of the brightest and buzziest emerging acts. Their reputation for surprising and shapeshifting has been underlined even more with the acoustic reimaginings of Beast’s ‘Dreaming’ and ‘The Wolf’ – the latter accompanied by a live video which sees the duo’s alchemy in action.

Witch Post will headline a short run of UK + European dates this fall, full routing below. Stay tuned for more tour dates, including their first-ever US shows, coming soon.

Witch Post – UK + EU Tour

– Fri 31 Oct / Lucerne, CH / ECHOLOT Festival, Kleintheater
– Sat 1 Nov / Amsterdam, NL / London Calling, Paradiso
– Wed 5 Nov / Berlin, DE / Mikropol
– Sat 8 Nov / Paris, FR / Pitchfork Festival, Supersonic Club
– Mon 10 Nov / London, UK / The Lexington
– Tue 11 Nov / Manchester, UK / The Castle Hotel
– Wed 12 Nov / Glasgow, UK / Nice N Sleazy
– Fri 14 Nov / Dublin, Ireland / Workman’s Club
– Sat 15 Nov / Leeds, UK / Live at Leeds In The City

The post New Partisan Records signing WITCH POST play Manchester appeared first on Manchester TV.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">27192</post-id>

Homeowners warned of fireworks mistakes that could cost hundreds to fix

Manchester TV

Business

Buzz

News

3 mistakes that could cost you hundreds this Bonfire Night Burnt lawns and damage to patios Cost of repair – £750-£1,200 Setting off fireworks repeatedly from the same spot can cause a lot of damage to a lawn, leaving it burnt. Those who plan to have a big bonfire night at home should therefore be careful, as excessive lawn damage could end up costing hundreds to repair.

Recent figures highlight that the total installation cost of replacing lawn, including both the turf and labour costs, is approximately £15 per square metre. This means, for an average garden size of roughly 50 square metres, you could expect to spend up to £750 in total.

Those with patios should also be cautious, as fireworks can cause staining and scorch marks on concrete and stone patios, whilst any wooden decking could melt or burn. The cost of repairing or replacing patio slabs could be up to a few hundred pounds, depending on the damage caused. However, extensive damage could result in a very costly repair job, with the average new patio costing around £1,200.

Damaged Fences

Cost of repair- Up to £1,500

Setting off fireworks in your garden poses risk to fences around the property. The most dangerous and significant risk being fire damage, the wood and vinyl materials of fences is easily flammable.

Secondly, heat or burn marks could discolour or scorch fence materials, causing damage. Should extensive damage be caused to garden fences, the average price to replace one in 2025 is reported to be around £1,500.

Broken Windows

Cost of repair: £50-200

If a firework misfires, travels in an unintended direction, or if there is windy weather, there is a chance it could hit windows on the property, which could be forceful enough to break through and smash entirely. Window glass replacement costs typically range from £50 to £200 per pane, depending on the specific requirements.

Josh Clarke on behalf of London rubbish removal company Clear It Waste provides some key advice on how to protect your home and garden this bonfire night, as well as safe disposal methods:

“Many won’t consider the safety implications of at-home fireworks this bonfire night, as well as the hundreds of pounds in costs that could be incurred as a result of damage to the property. Therefore, there are key steps I recommend before beginning your bonfire night.

“Firstly, ensure that the garden is tidied up before beginning. Clean away dead grass, dry leaves, or flammable debris that may be lying around, and store away your outdoor furniture. I’d always recommend that those who want to set off their own fireworks use a hard, stable surface such as a gravelled driveway, bare soil, or a garden patio. However, as mentioned patios can still endure some damage such as stains and scorch marks, so be sure to take care with this.

“Be sure to lightly water any nearby grass roughly an hour prior to the fireworks, to reduce flammability, but take care not to over-water as this can create an unstable, muddy surface. It is also advised to have a water source very nearby, such as multiple buckets of water in case they are needed to extinguish.

“When it comes to disposing of used fireworks or sparklers, be sure to soak them in water for at least 24 hours to ensure they are properly extinguished. Once done, bag up the remains and put these in your general household waste bin, as they aren’t recyclable. Be sure to never put a hot firework straight in the bin. If you are unsure of any disposal rules, you can check your local council’s guidelines.”

The post Homeowners warned of fireworks mistakes that could cost hundreds to fix appeared first on Manchester TV.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">27190</post-id>

Manchester music shop owner explains what’s behind the comeback of cassette tapes, as some resell for 1000%+ their RRP

Manchester TV

Buzz

Manchester

News

The owner of the last cassette shop in the UK, Mars Tapes based in Manchester’s Afflecks market, explains what’s driving the cassette tape comeback as new research reveals a burgeoning second-hand market for this outdated music technology. While cassette tapes may be considered a relic of the past, it turns out there’s still interest in the analogue music format. One report revealed that the sales of cassette tapes were up 204 percent in the first quarter of 2025.

A study by Startle has revealed the surprising resurgence of cassettes driven by modern artists including Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and Lana Del Rey. Some tapes are being resold on eBay at a 1,000% markup, despite the music being available on cheaper mediums like streaming and digital download.

Music fans are also buying up retro tech too, with ‘Cassette player’ now being searched nearly 20K times a month in the UK.

Gen Z and the underground music scene are driving the cassette revival

The driving force behind the popularity of cassettes appears to be Gen Z, who are embracing old music tech despite music being readily available on streaming services and being born well after their heyday.

Alex Tadros, owner of the last cassette shop in the UK, Mars Tapes, explains:

“Most of our customers are under 30; they buy their first cassette players through us and come back regularly to update their collections. Gen Z love the physical and fashionable element of tapes. Retro tech and trends are everywhere in popular culture, widening interest in forgotten formats. When the last season of Stranger Things came out, we instantly sold all our Iron Maiden tapes. For millennials and Gen X, tapes give them the chance to re-live some of their childhood interests.

“Tapes are huge in the underground music scene, too. Unsigned artists sell them at shows where fans can simply slip them into their pockets and online via platforms like Bandcamp. It doesn’t cost much to print a few hundred cassettes, and they take up less space to store than vinyl records.”

image003.png

Demand for cassette tapes highest for modern artists

Startle’s study tracked the sale of 146 albums on eBay from a range of chart-topping artists across the decades to reveal what (and who) is driving the revival of cassette tapes.

Interestingly, it’s not classic artists like The Beatles, Madonna, or Elvis Presley who are seeing the largest resale value, but rather today’s chart toppers. On average, cassette albums are fetching double their original retail price, with some reselling for as much as 1,000% above their initial cost.

American country star, Morgan Wallen’s 2021 album Dangerous is the most expensive cassette to purchase on eBay right now. His cassettes are reselling for an average of £250 each – a more than 1,000% increase on the album’s initial release price of £22.

Other artists, including Lana Del Rey and Kendrick Lamar, are seeing similar trends. Del Rey’s 2019 album Norman F****ng Rockwell was initially sold for £15, but more recently, cassettes sell for an average of £188, an increase of more than 1,100%. Kendrick Lamar’s 2017 album DAMN was first listed at £12, but the average price of the tapes has skyrocketed by nearly 600% to an average cost of £82.

One of the most recent releases to command a striking markup is Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl. The album, which was released in early October in multiple formats including cassette tape, was originally listed at £17. However, in the weeks that have followed, the average price of the tape has increased to £63, a 269% markup. Similarly, her 1989 album on cassette is fetching £47 on average, a 170% rise in value.

The analysts also found that collectively, albums from the noughties hold the highest resale value (£60 on average), followed by albums from the 2010s at £53, and those from the 2020s at £42.

A growing and lucrative revenue stream for artists and labels

Cassette tapes have become an unexpected revenue stream for contemporary artists and large music labels. The rise of music streaming and the cost of living make it increasingly challenging for those in the music industry to make a profit.

Music streaming could pay out fractions of a penny per stream to artists, which means physical merchandise is becoming increasingly crucial for artists trying to make a living from their work.

Alex adds: “Larger labels like Sony and Universal are tuning into what’s happening in the underground scene; if someone has bought a cassette player to listen to their favourite local artist, why wouldn’t they also buy a mainstream artist’s cassette too.”

The appeal of physical music formats has also been amplified by the growing demand for limited-edition releases. While they still only account for a small portion of revenue for musicians, it is increasing. In 2024, sales of physical music had year-on-year increases for the first time in two decades.

Adam Castleton, CEO of Startle comments:

“It’s fascinating to see how the nostalgia of cassette tapes is being embraced by a new generation of music fans who weren’t alive to experience them the first time around. Like vinyl records, cassettes offer an element of collectability and nostalgia that digital platforms simply can’t match. Buying a physical copy, as a form of merchandise, is not only a way of having ownership over music but also a way for fans to support the artists they love.”

The post Manchester music shop owner explains what’s behind the comeback of cassette tapes, as some resell for 1000%+ their RRP appeared first on Manchester TV.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">27187</post-id>

TTSSFU UK HEADLINE TOUR SET FOR NOVEMBER

Manchester TV

Buzz

Manchester

News

TTSSFU will be hitting the road for a run of UK shows this November. Pronounced phonetically, TTSSFU takes the vague template of a fuzzed-up dream-pop sound. It’s a dark and unsettling veil of pent-up anxiety spilt over oscillating beats, heavy guitars, and to somewhere approaching a fever-dream.

And whilst TTSSFU’s music harnesses all those words that typically describe shoegaze; ethereal, atmospheric, layered, and immersive instrumentation soaked in reverb, Tasmin comes at it all with a scythe. And latest single “Forever” was co-produced by Chris Ryan (Just Mustard, Cardinals, New Dad) and launched alongside a video produced by Seth Lloyd.

“Forever” is a soaring ode to friendship—TTSSFU’s closest step yet toward a pop song, though still filtered through her signature shoegaze lens. The sun-soaked late summer anthem fondly reminisces on a lifelong friendship over radiant guitar riffs and Tasmin’s celestial vocals. Synths blur into Tasmin’s voice, veiling the track in glimmering nostalgia and alluring mystery. She chants the track’s title throughout the chorus, a hymn to a never-ending closeness and understanding that, in Tasmin’s words, “never felt so good.”

TTSSFU on “Forever” says:

“Forever is probably the happiest song I’ve written, maybe the only happy song I’ve written, and that’s because it’s about one of my best friends in the world… It’s about all the memories we have together and everything we’ve gone through. From the moment we met, we have brought so much joy and laughter into each other’s life. I was attempting to write a pop song and when trying to think of things that made me happy, my mind went straight to her.”

In a little over a year performing as TTSSFU, Tasmin has played sold out headline dates across the UK, with support slots alongside Kim Deal, English Teacher, Mannequin Pussy, and Soccer Mommy.

Having gone into the EP intending to, “write some pop songs and something happy”, what came out was altogether more realistic of her songwriting approach. It’s a real-time document of Tasmin’s life in all its messy contradictions, pieced together by her diverse musicality and a souped-up sonic palette.

As TTSSFU, Tasmin Stephens isn’t content to simply exist in a vague pool of dream-pop inspired newcomers, nor happy to operate quietly in the shadows. Tasmin demands attention, and will be quick to receive it. Her aesthetic, hyper-specific and often unsettling, is imbued with an innate love of analogue horror and the intoxicating glitch and noise of early internet yore. A whirlpool of chaotic energy.

TTSSFU – NOVEMBER UK LIVE DATES
9th November – The Attic, Leeds
10th November – Strange Brew, Bristol
11th November – Lower Third, London
15th November – King Tuts, Glasgow
27th November – White Hotel, Manchester

The post TTSSFU UK HEADLINE TOUR SET FOR NOVEMBER appeared first on Manchester TV.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">27183</post-id>

Daphne Barak issued a stark warning that there is more to come following King Charles’s decision to strip Prince Andrew of all his royal titles

Manchester TV

Business

Buzz

News

In an interview with GB News, royal journalist Daphne Barak issued a stark warning that there is more to come following King Charles’s decision to strip Prince Andrew of all his royal titles and honours. She said: “Somebody with such a privileged childhood and background like Andrew, and also Sarah, who is not from a royal family but from a good family, did not make better choices in life. Their judgment was horrific and that is where we have ended up.”
Revealing previously unpublished emails, Barak explained how the initial shock came with the release of Sarah Ferguson’s communications with Epstein, in which she was accused of lying to the public. She said she was “shocked” and “cried” because she knew Sarah well.
The severity increased with the exposure of Andrew’s emails to Epstein, particularly where he wrote “we are in it together” just a day after a notorious photo emerged involving Epstein’s accuser Virginia Giuffre. Barak confirmed that the Palace had contacted at least two newspapers to inquire if there was more damaging material to be published. She said: “They asked what if Daphne has more and what is coming. We do have much more.”
She added that one major network is working on a significant special titled “The Downfall of the Yorks,” signalling that the story is far from over. “It is high time,” she said.
Asked if the royal family was aware of the extent of the emails, Barak said the Palace “should have access,” and that her sources are “very high end.” She warned: “They do know that much more is coming and it is very damaging. This was not just about sex, it was about money.”
Barak suggested that this information may explain the sudden and brutal decision by King Charles to strip Andrew of his titles. “It was a very smart decision,” she said, adding that the Royal Lodge is already reacting to the news.
The journalist also compared the reaction in the UK to that in the United States, where there is a strong demand for transparency about Epstein. She said: “People want to know everything. Here in America, they want no cover-up, and I don’t think there is a cover-up.”
Barak concluded by noting the delicate relationship between the Palace and the press, which had led to the Palace proactively reaching out to newspapers. “It is damage limitation, and it is only going to get worse,” she said.
The revelations mark a significant moment for the British monarchy, as the fallout from the Epstein scandal continues to unravel around one of its most controversial figures.

The post Daphne Barak issued a stark warning that there is more to come following King Charles’s decision to strip Prince Andrew of all his royal titles appeared first on Manchester TV.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">27180</post-id>

Brofoz explores the intersection of individuality and urban life through bold, stylised oil portraiture. After moving from the wide-open landscapes of Idaho to the vibrant, diverse streets of London, she became fascinated by the stories behind unfamiliar faces. Her work captures this curiosity, using illustration as a way to process her new environment. Are they lonely? Are they happy? Where are they going? Where have they come from? In this series, Brofoz draws inspiration from her daily commute into Camden, reimagining the lives of the people she encounters through expressive oil pastels and verbal storytelling. We are excited to launch this exclusive collection, which includes 42 original artworks and 7 limited edition prints, with prices starting at £50. It finds that while ostensibly pro-natal policies focused on cash transfers can result in more children, financial incentives have limited success, do not address the root causes of birth rate declines, and are prohibitively costly for most governments.

Instead, research shows traditional pro-natal policies, such as baby bonuses and parental leave, yield near-zero effects on long-run fertility decisions. Instead, evidence from the United States shows that states with greater economic freedom – especially in labour market regulation – tend to have smaller fertility gaps. Work-family compatibility emerges as a crucial constraint, with flexible labour markets naturally providing parents with more options to customise work schedules around family goals.

Economic freedom shows strong associations with smaller fertility gaps. New research analysing US state-level data reveals that housing and land use regulation significantly impacts family formation. Spacious, affordable housing with multiple bedrooms is what economists call a “child-complement” – couples have higher fertility when they can achieve these conditions.

Yet extensive land use regulations dampen housing supply responses and keep prices artificially high, making the costs of raising children higher than necessary. Studies show a significant negative relationship between land use restrictions and fertility rates, with effects especially concentrated among women in their twenties. Similarly, seemingly minor regulations can have outsized anti-natal effects – stringent car seat requirements in the US reduced total births by 145,000 since 1980 by indirectly requiring families to purchase larger vehicles when going from two to three children.

Dr Clara E. Piano, report author and Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Mississippi, argues that the fertility gap represents a growing failure to achieve family goals rather than a decline in the desire for children. If women achieved their stated fertility intentions, the UK’s fertility rate would rise well above the United States (1.62) and nearly every other high-income country.

Piano makes the following key recommendations to help close the fertility gap:

Labour market deregulation: Remove rigid regulations that prevent flexible working arrangements, remote work, and independent contracting. Evidence from US states shows that more flexible labour markets are strongly associated with smaller fertility gaps, allowing parents to balance careers with family life rather than being forced to choose between them.
Housing and planning reform: Reduce land use and housing regulations that keep prices artificially high and restrict housing supply. Spacious, affordable housing with multiple bedrooms enables couples to achieve higher fertility, yet current planning restrictions make the costs of raising children unnecessarily expensive.
Reform anti-natal public programmes: Audit and reform public pension systems and other welfare programmes that inadvertently punish parents. Parents currently bear all the costs of raising the next generation of taxpayers while the benefits are spread across society.
Support religious liberty: Allow religious organisations to freely promote pro-natal messages and create supportive communities around parenthood, rather than attempting ineffective and often expensive Government campaigns. International evidence shows this approach can increase fertility at virtually no cost.
Avoid ineffective policies: Resist calls for expensive baby bonuses, cash incentives, and subsidized childcare schemes, which research shows have minimal long-run impact on fertility decisions and fail to address the root causes of declining birth rates.
Piano also suggests some creative solutions to closing the fertility gap, including giving children political representation by allowing parents to cast proxy votes on behalf of their minor children. This would ensure children’s interests are represented in policy decisions and create a sustainable feedback mechanism where parents themselves signal which barriers to family formation matter most.

The paper warns that without action, the UK faces mounting fiscal pressures, labour shortages, and a growing population of people unable to achieve their stated family goals.

Dr Clara E. Piano, report author and Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Mississippi, said:

“Restricting the term pro-natal to explicit transfer policies obscures the broader policy landscape that shapes family decisions. Policies affecting economic and religious freedom, in particular, have profound effects on fertility through their impact on work–family compatibility and personal beliefs.”

The post Deregulate to boost birth rates, new research suggests appeared first on Manchester TV.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">27175</post-id>

The Range unwraps a festive weekend of surprises, mystery prizes and early Black Friday deals

Manchester TV

Business

Buzz

News

The Range is inviting shoppers to get in the festive spirit early with an opportunity to win mystery prizes. The band’s first UK shows since 2024, this is a residency that is guaranteed to be completely unique.

Speaking about the residency, Wayne Hussey says:

“November 10th, 2026, will mark the 40th anniversary of the release of our first album, God’s Own Medicine. As part of our celebrations we will playing two nights at the Whitby Pavilion as headliners of the Tomorrow’s Ghosts Festival. I have played in Whitby now a fair few times, both with the The Mission and solo (perhaps my personal favourite performance being with The Divine in 2019) and they have always been great celebratory occasions. We couldn’t think of a better place than the fabled, wind battered, cobbled streets of Whitby to spend what for us will be very emotional evenings.

Both shows will feature very different sets – we will be mixing it up – but one evening will be a performance in full of the album we’ll be celebrating, God’s Own Medicine. Fancy it? Come and sing along to all your fave Mission tunes and more….” – Wayne Hussey, Oct, 2025.

No strangers to TOMORROW’S GHOSTS, the red velvet carpet will be rolled out for Wayne, Craig, Simon and Alex as they rock up to deliver a two-night, three-part extravaganza unlike any performance they have produced at the festival before. It may seem like yesterday, but 2026 in fact marks the 40th Anniversary of THE MISSION’S seminal debut album ‘God’s Own Medicine’. Featuring smash singles like “Wasteland” and “Severina” the album would thrust the band into the limelight, go onto sell over 5 million copies, and rewrite the goth-rock agenda. From there, The Mission would achieve remarkable success throughout a career that has seen them score 13 UK Top 40 singles, release ten landmark studio albums, sell millions of albums worldwide, headline major festivals all over the globe (including the renowned Reading Festival twice) and continue to tour extensively to this day.

Marking their illustrious four-decade career with two headline sets at TOMORROW’s GHOSTS FESTIVAL, the Friday night (30 Oct) will see the band perform ‘God’s Own Medicine’ in its entirety for PART I of their set, followed by a set of classics in PART II ‘86-26’ : 40th Anniversary Set. Then, on the following day (Saturday 31st October) the band will finish the job with a further PART III – ‘86 -26’ : 40th Anniversary Set. Miss these at your peril!!

Across both nights, audiences can expect appearances from some choice supporting acts too. On Friday night, a Very Special Guest performance will come from The Cure’s own… LOL TOLHURST. An acclaimed musician, songwriter, producer, podcaster, author and of course drummer with The Cure: Lol Tolhurst is a straight-up goth icon who needs little introduction. Accompanied by his son Gray, a guitarist and songwriter in the band Topographies, the father-son partnership have already performed together across the United States and Europe and impressed fans on the “Stranger” tour with the Miki Berenyi Trio. Making his long awaited TOMORROW’s GHOSTS debut, expect performances of early cuts like “10:15 Saturday Night” (a performance of which went viral across the pond recently), and a set that promises to be full of classics from one of the all-time goth greats at Whitby next year.

While the following Saturday, a Very Special Guest appearance will come from Yorkshire Goth maestros: THE MARCH VIOLETS. Nearly 45 years on since they first formed, the boundary-shredding Leeds act are on a roll right now. Following a spate of reunion shows, a reappraisal of their classic works in a series of reissues on the Jungle Records label, plus an acclaimed comeback album in 2024’s ‘Crocodile Promises’; the cult band are clearly revelling in their recent revival. Comprising founding members Rosie Garland (performer, poet and author) and Tom Ashton (Guitarist, producer and studio owner), plus William Faith (musician and vocalist with Faith & the Muse, Conflict, The Bellwether Syndicate), the band’s recent shows have been a celebration of The March Violets’ legacy, while also honouring the irreplaceable contribution of friend and founding member Simon Denbigh. Catch them reeling through Indie Charting hits like “Grooving in Green”, “Snake Dance”, “Deep”, and “Walk Into The Sun”, as well as vital new cuts, surprises and so much more.

Elsewhere across the weekend, there will be supporting sets from EVI VINE (Friday) and TRISTWCH Y FENYWOD (Saturday). Born in Belfast but raised in London, Evi is renowned for her ethereal vocals and captivating soundscapes and has carved out a unique niche in the alternative landscape, drawing inspiration from artists as diverse as PJ Harvey to Cocteau Twins. Whereas formed down the road in Leeds, but with lyrics sung entirely in the Welsh language, Tristwch Y Fenywod are a band of three queer women who play avant garde Gothic rock using folk, rock, and digital instruments. With themes of sapphic love and desire, existential darkness, political and environmental anguish/celebration, psychogeographic romance, pagan mysticism, imaginal explorations of Celtic history and myth, psychedelia, and myriad other variations of reverie flowing through their music, they are sure to feel right at home at Tomorrow’s Ghosts 2026.

As per previous years, alt/rock DJ legends CARPE NOCTUM, who will be burning the midnight oil and bringing the tunes as they reprise their notorious death disco into the early hours.

Around the site, attendees can also expect to see the return of the Gothic and Alternative markets, as well as other special events – to be confirmed in due course.

The post TOMORROW’S GHOSTS 2026 – Whitby Gothic Festival Announces The Mission appeared first on Manchester TV.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">27169</post-id>

The Invisible Threat: Why Data Exfiltration Should Keep You Awake at Night

Manchester TV

Business

Buzz

According to BlackFog’s latest report, data exfiltration is now almost universal among cyberattacks. In Q1 2025, 95 % of all publicly disclosed ransomware attacks involved data exfiltration. Even more alarming: the number of undisclosed incidents has surged by 113 % year-on-year.

Meanwhile in the UK, cyber incidents continue to cost companies dearly, over the past five years, British businesses have lost around £44 billion to cyberattacks.

Those figures demand more than cursory compliance check-boxes. They demand deep visibility, especially into what happens after your perimeter is breached.

Why Traditional Security Isn’t Enough

Penetration tests and vulnerability scans still have a place. But they only tell you where your armour is weak, they don’t show you whether someone is quietly draining your data.

A person in a suitAI-generated content may be incorrect.

“It’s not another penetration test or vulnerability scan, but a real-time look at outbound threats, identifying suspicious data flows that bypass traditional defences.” Your endpoint protection, VPN, or encryption may all be in place, yet data can still slip out through channels you never knew existed (insider misuse, shadow-IT, misconfigured cloud services, covert channels). Visibility is the gap many firms underestimate.

Dominic Ryles – Security Director at Hammer

What You Might Not Be Asking (But Should Be)

What is really leaving your network? Not just what your policies allow, but what your attackers are managing to get out.
Who could be the insider or external actor siphoning data? Could it be a well-intentioned employee misconfiguring services, or something far more sinister?
How long has it been going on? Many breaches involve “dwell time” of months before detection.
What would happen if that data got published (or sold)? Financial penalties, regulatory fines, reputational damage, not to mention long-term trust erosion.
You need actionable insights, not just reports. You need to know where, when, how much, and who, then fix it.

How Hammer & BlackFog Help Close the Visibility Gap

Hammer Distribution has recently rebranded (returning to its roots as Hammer Distribution) and strengthened its cybersecurity offering with a dedicated team and enhanced vendor partnerships.

Through a partnership with BlackFog, we offer a Data Exfiltration Assessment (DEA). This isn’t just theoretical — it’s a real-time, live look at outbound data flows that your current defences may never record.

The assessment helps you to:

Discover where your sensitive data is really going, beyond your known infrastructure
Quantify the risk of exfiltration — whether from insider misuse or external breach
Receive an actionable remediation plan, so you’re not just exposed, you’re empowered
In a world where attackers can bypass encryption, VPN, and even endpoint protection, visibility is your strongest weapon. As Dominic says:

“See your data in a way your incumbent solutions never could.”

What Happens If You Don’t Act?

Imagine this scenario:

You believe you’re protected. You’ve passed your audits. But behind the scenes, an attacker, or insider misconfiguration, is quietly siphoning IP or customer data into an external cloud or third-party service. The breach remains dormant for weeks or months.

When it finally surfaces, perhaps through a blackmail demand, leaked customer data, or compliance investigation, you realise you didn’t know what you’d lost, you can’t trace the damage’s origin quickly, and the downstream impact is enormous:

Regulatory fallout (GDPR / industry regulator)
Reputational damage that destroys trust with partners or clients
Operational cost to investigate, remediate, notify, and defend
Possibly even litigation or class-action consequences
And to put a figure on it: the average cost of data-exfiltration extortion is now more than $5.2 million per incident.

That’s not just IT risk. It’s strategic business risk.

A Call to Leaders

If you’re a C-suite executive, board member, CIO or CISO, or if you work in compliance, risk or operations, ask yourself:

When did you last see all outbound flows, including “shadow” or unusual channels?
How confident are you that nothing is leaving your network without your knowledge?
What is your plan to get visibility, not only to detect exfiltration after the fact, but to prevent it proactively?
What is your timeline for moving from suspicion to clarity, and from clarity to remediation?
If you’d like a starting point, speak to your cybersecurity or cloud team about arranging a Data Exfiltration Assessment through Hammer & BlackFog. It might reveal more than you expect, and ultimately, save you far more than you can afford to lose.

The post The Invisible Threat: Why Data Exfiltration Should Keep You Awake at Night appeared first on Manchester TV.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">27166</post-id>

If you would like to create a banner that links to this page (i.e. this validation result), do the following:
