19.
  20.
He has to take it day-to-day.

When Kenny Omega came up through the world of professional wrestling, on through New Japan from the independent scene, he did so with a distinct style that ultimately led to his being referred to as “The Best Bout Machine.” His in-ring work has been what has made him.

  21.
His battle with diverticulitis, one that nearly killed him, has taken that from him, at least to some degree. As he told the Wrestling Observer in an interview, he’s still struggling to manage the complications that come with everything he went through:

  22.

  23.
“I don’t want people to feel scared or sorry for me, or I don’t want anyone’s opinion of a match to be hampered because I simply just can’t move consistently as fast all the time…there’s still a number of issues I’m working through, and it’s really day to day.

  24.
...

  25.
“I have these adhesions in my stomach, quite a few, and when you’re breathing heavy, when you have to use a lot of core, when you have to twist, when you have to stretch, the adhesions that are binding to my inner organs, they’re pulling apart, and it’s causing a lot of discomfort, kinda sorta like a lot of flu like symptoms to emerge.

  26.
...

  27.
“It’s not meant to scare anybody, I’ll be in bed until 5 p.m., 6 p.m. for almost an entire week…I just don’t have the energy, I can’t move. That was the most scary part to me.”

  28.

  29.
What’s amazing here is Omega is still delivering with incredible matches, like the one he recently had opposite Claudio Castagnoli, Brody King, and Mascara Dorado. He also said he knows he has limits and it’s important he stays within that now.

  30.
He’s got a big match against longtime rival Kazuchika Okada coming up at All In Texas on July 12 in Dallas. We’ll likely see those upper limits there.

  55.

  56.
Collision

  57.
Storytime with TNT champion Adam Cole, baybay. Cole cut a babyface promo thanking the fans for 100 episodes of Collision. Kyle Fletcher interrupted to demand a shot at the TNT title at All In. Two years ago, Cole took the ROH tag titles from Fletcher at All In. Now, the Protostar wants Cole to feel that same despair by taking his championship. Fletcher claimed that nobody is more deserving to be the challenger than himself. Enter Daniel Garcia. He wants in on the party too. Cole was game to face both. Fletcher only wanted a one-on-one title bout. Garcia proposed that they earn it. The winner between Garcia and Fletcher gets the shot at All In.

  58.
Toni Storm has a message to the little girls watching. The All In match against Mercedes Moné will be a lesson. If someone hurts the people you love, then rip their tits off. The world title will be worth every drop of blood.

  59.
Kevin Knight defeated Shelton Benjamin and Nick Wayne. Three-way contest. Knight entered with his ribs taped. Shelton focused on hurting Knight. Wayne tried to pick his spots. In the end, Wayne hit a handspring cutter on Shelton. Knight launched for a UFO splash onto the pile. Wayne rolled away in pain, and Knight pinned Shelton for the win. Cool match.

  60.
Still to come...

  89.
The big luchador’s trios victory was followed by a singles challenge from Esfinge.

The Beast Mortos was a feature attraction for his return to CMLL on Friday night (July 4, 2025). The AEW mantaur picked up the win in trios action, and a feud was sparked.

  90.
Mortos teamed with Averno & Ultimo Guerrero to wrestle Mascara Dorada, Templario, & Esfinge in the main event from Arena Mexico. The bull ran wild with a shoulder tackle, a headbutt, and a corkscrew dive outside. Mortos won the first fall for his team by pinning Esfinge on a backbreaker. More roughhousing in the second fall, but Mortos’ partners ate the pin to even the score for the tecnicos. Mortos went full rudo for the finish. After a poison rana from Esfinge, Mortos faked an injury. When the referee was focused on the medic, Mortos struck with a low blow on Esfinge to steal the win.

  91.
After the bout, Esfinge challenged Mortos to a match next week. Mortos replied by blasting Esfinge with a stiff blow to the jaw and taking his mask. CMLL has not yet revealed the card for Friday, July 11th, so time will tell if that bout becomes official.

  92.
Side note, Averno and Ultimo Guerrero already don’t like each other, and tensions flared due to friendly fire during the match. Averno and Ultimo Guerrero ended up fighting each other on the outside, while Mortos focused on the match.

  95.
There was also a new champion crowned on the show. Dark Silhueta defeated Lluvia to win the CMLL Japan Women’s Championship for the second time. Dark Silhueta tried to cheat with her feet on the ropes for a pin, but the referee caught her. She earned the win the old-fashioned way with a bridging German suplex.

  118.
This concept art for “The Hitman” totally missed its target.

The New Generation is back, thanks to WWE Vault.

  119.
This week, the classic content channel on YouTube is celebrating WWE’s post-Hulkamania period of the early to mid-1990s. While the era is remembered for its odd gimmicks, such as TL Hopper and The Goon, it also introduced a new level of athleticism. Superstars like Shawn Michaels, Owen Hart, and the 1-2-3 Kid led the charge, while Razor Ramon and Diesel redefined the role of the big men.

  120.
At the forefront of the New Generation was Bret “The Hitman” Hart.

  121.
Hart first rose to prominence during the 1980s as part of the Hart Foundation with Jim Neidhart. In 1991, Hart broke out as a singles star. From 1992 to 1997, he became a five-time WWE Champion, engaging in classic matches with Michaels, Diesel, and a rising star, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

  122.
Through the years, Hart’s look evolved, with flashier leather jackets and more defined gear. Yet, his signature pink and black color scheme — made famous during his run with Neidhart — remained a constant. However, a post by WWE Vault suggests that some consideration was given to altering Hart’s iconic look.

  123.
As part of its New Generation celebration, WWE Vault released concept art highlighting proposed ring gear for stars like Goldust, Mankind, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, and the 1-2-3 Kid. Among them was a radically different look for “The Hitman.”

  124.

  125.
  126. WWE Vault
  127.
Concept art reveals a new look for Bret Hart during WWE’s New Generation era.

  128.

  129.
Gone were the signature pink and black. In their place: white, black, and gold. The sketch shows Hart wearing what appears to be a weightlifting belt, years before Cody Rhodes made it a fashion statement.

  130.
But the most striking detail is what appears to be a thong layered over his tights, splitting at the back to reveal two cartoonish hearts — one on each butt cheek. The singlet is also noticeably baggier than his usual form-fitting attire.

  131.
During this era, Michaels played the “Sexy Boy,” appearing in Playgirl magazine. Yet, it seems then-WWE owner Vince McMahon may have considered positioning Hart as a second slice of eye candy. Thankfully, Bret "The Whale Tail" Hart never materialized.

  132.
To further celebrate Hart’s legacy, WWE Vault also released a 4-hour “mixtape” featuring interviews and other rare footage. The video features several classic matches, including battles with the likes of Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage. It ends with Hart teaming with his family at In Your House: Canadian Stampede to take on a faction led by Austin, Hart’s most wicked rival.

  133.
And just in time for Bill Goldberg’s final match, the mix includes the famous segment where Goldberg knocked himself out after spearing Hart, who had hidden a metal plate under his Toronto Maple Leafs jersey.

  151.

  152.
  153.
WWE wasted New Day’s shocking heel turn on Big E for a complete afterthought run as tag team champions.

Some places do power rankings. Here at Cageside, we do a stock report.

  154.
In this weekly series, we identify three Superstars (or groups of Superstars) who are on their way up, and three that are moving in the opposite direction. After a busy week that included the return of Drew McIntyre, Ludwig Kaiser taking over the role of El Grande Americano, and Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss earning a shot at the WWE women’s tag team championship, a lot of fortunes were changed.

  155.
With that in mind, let’s see whose stock decreased the most this week:

  156.
Stock Down #3: Goldberg

  157.
There’s only one episode of Raw left before Goldberg’s retirement match, but the WWE legend hasn’t bothered to show up live in the ring again following his return segment on June 16. With Goldberg nowhere to be seen, GUNTHER was instead doing angles this week with Seth Rollins and CM Punk.

  158.
Stock Down #2: Motor City Machine Guns

  159.
Chris Sabin was duped by Johnny Gargano once again when he bailed on him during a tag team match against the Wyatt Sicks. The Wyatts are now getting a rematch for the WWE tag team championship on next week’s SmackDown, while MCMG seem to be moving further away from the belts.

  160.
Stock Down #1: New Day

  161.
Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston won the tag team titles in mid-April at WrestleMania 41. They successfully defended the titles once in May in a triple threat match before dropping the belts on this week’s Raw to The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and JD McDonagh.

  162.
This title reign was a complete dud, which is very fitting given the way WWE failed to capitalize on all the heat New Day had after turning heel on Big E last December. Instead of using that heat to put some shine on babyfaces, WWE simply passed the belts along to a more interesting heel team. If this is what WWE had in mind for New Day’s heel run all along, they never should have done the shocking angle with Big E in the first place.

  163.
Now let’s see whose stock increased the most this week:

  164.
Stock Up #3: Andrade & Rey Fenix

  165.
While the rest of the SmackDown tag team division is getting beat up by the Wyatt Sicks, Andrade and Fenix have been gaining momentum with wins in recent weeks over Fraxiom and DIY. Things are looking pretty good for these guys as long as they continue to avoid getting caught up in whatever the Wyatts are doing.

  166.
Stock Up #2: Rhea Ripley & Trish Stratus

  167.
Ripley and Stratus were both hand-picked for title matches at Evolution 2 by Women’s World Champion IYO SKY and WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, respectively. This worked out particularly well for Rhea, who didn’t have a clear path back to Raw’s top prize after failing to win both the Money in the Bank ladder match as well as the Queen of the Ring tournament.

  168.
Stock Up #1: Roxanne Perez, Finn Balor, JD McDonagh

  169.
Finn Balor’s plan for The Judgment Day couldn’t be working out any better. Liv Morgan’s injury opened the door for Roxanne Perez to replace her as WWE women’s tag team champion and get booked in a title defense at Evolution 2. Balor and JD McDonagh then brought the world tag team championship back to the group by beating New Day. Now the only thing Finn has left to figure out is what to do about Dominik Mysterio’s run as Intercontinental champion.

  170.
There you have it, Cagesiders. Whose stock do you think changed the most this week?

  189.
  190.
Mercedes Moné isn’t the only wrestler in Tony Khan’s employ who can fly across the Atlantic and collect some gold.

In her home promotion, Kris Statlander is set to start one of All In Texas’ Casino Gauntlet matches next Saturday. She earned that spot* in a match that merged the two storylines Statlander’s currently involved in: her broken friendship with Willow Nightingale, and her possible recruitment into the Death Riders by Marina Shafir and another former friend, Wheeler Yuta.

  191.
But Stat isn’t sitting around waiting for July 12. She got herself a booking for Pro Wrestling EVE on Friday night (July 4) at their Mean Grrrls show in London. The former TBS champ beat Anita Vaughan and took the promotion’s International title.

  192.
Proud Brit and proud AEW star Will Ospreay shared a post-match pic of the new champ:

  199.

  200.
Probably won’t get as much play on Dynamite as the last woman to fly across the Atlantic and win an indie belt did. But that was Mercedes Moné, so we get it. Still, this is a nice accolade for a wrestler who’s been a workhorse for the AEW women’s division — and could give her a boost towards a bigger role in that division going forward.

  201.
Maybe with an extended feud against Five-Belts Moné? The CEO noticed Stat’s win yesterday, and got a surly response from the EVE International champ:

  205.

  206.
We know she’ll be back in EVE at some point to defend her new title. That could be their August 23 show in London, which is the same weekend Forbidden Door will be in London. That’s why Skye Blue & Julia Hart have already been announced for EVE’s Saturday night event. Bruv had us covered there as well:

  235.
Get ready for a great night of action from north of the border with Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, featuring stars from all over the wrestling world!

Celebrate Fourth of July weekend with... Canadian wrestling! Maple Leaf Pro, run by Scott D’Amore, is your hookup with the Resurrection event from Montreal, Quebec, Canada on Saturday, July 5. The show features five title fights, one of which is inside the House of Pain, and a host of talent from AEW, NWA, NJPW as well as free agents from WWE, TNA, and beyond.

  236.
The full card for MLP Resurrection includes:

  237.

  238.
Canadian International Heavyweight Championship: PCO (c) vs. Dan Maff (with Jimmy Jacobs) in a House of Pain match with special referee Billy Gunn

  239.
MLP Canadian Championship: Josh Alexander (c) vs. Ace Austin

  240.
MLP Women’s Canadian Championship: Gisele Shaw (c) vs. Shotzi Blackheart

  241.
NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship: Thom Latimer (c) vs. Matt Cardona

  242.
PWA Champion’s Grail: Rohan Raja (c) vs. Alexander Hammerstone

  243.
Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) vs. War Dogs (David Finlay & Drilla Moloney)

  244.
Stu Grayson vs. Sheldon Jean

  245.
6-Man Scramble: Jonathan Gresham vs. Psycho Mike Rollins vs. TJP vs. Michael Allen Richard Clark vs. Bhupinder Gujjar vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey

  246.

  247.
The cold open sneak peak heats up the mood for MLP Resurrection.

  254.

  255.
Quick rundown of the big matches to get a feel heading into the show.

  256.
PCO is coming for revenge after Dan Maff threw a fireball in his face. They will settle the beef in a House of Pain match. Scott D’Amore deemed that those two behemoths will be out of control, so he brought in Billy Gunn as the guest referee.

  257.
Josh Alexander wrestled Ace Austin before in TNA fighting over X-Division gold. Now, it’s time to dance once again for the Canadian championship. Gisele Shaw meets Shotzi Blackheart for the first time inside the ring. Gisele is the Quintessential Diva with an attitude to boot. Shotzi isn’t letting a broken arm stop her from this title opportunity.

  258.
Thom Latimer returns to defend the NWA’s top championship. Matt Cardona doesn’t let facts get in the way of a good story. While it’s true that Cardona was stripped of the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship due to injury, he doesn’t mention all the chances he failed to regain the title. That fits in line with his character.

  259.
MLP Resurrection goes live at 7 pm ET and streams through TrillerTV as a single show or a package with the replay of Northern Rising.

  280.
  281.
We still know who will be in this year’s edition of New Japan’s iconic tournament, pending the result of a 4-way to replace Hirooki Goto.

At a New Japan Soul event yesterday (July 4), Ryohei Oiwa and YOSHI-HASHI won “play-in matches” for this year’s edition of NJPW’s grueling, iconic tournament — the G1 Climax.

  282.
With their victories, the 20-man field for G1 Climax 35 was set. We just needed the schedule of round-robin matches for each of the tournament’s two blocks, and we’d be full-steam ahead to start on July 19.

  283.
Unfortunately, the injury that may have played a role in Hirooki Goto unexpectedly dropping the IWGP World Heavyweight title to Zack Sabre Jr. last weekend will also impact the G1. New Japan announced as much last night:

  284.

After medical evaluation through the week, it has been determined that Hirooki Goto, who missed July 4’s New Japan Soul card as a result of an elbow injury sustained at Tanahashi Jam on June 29, will be unable to compete in the G1 Climax 35 tournament, and currently has no set date for a return.

  285.
Goto was set to be a part of the tournament’s A Block. To fill his spot, there will be a 4-Way play-in featuring Tomohiro Ishii, Taichi, Satoshi Kojima, and Chase Owens on tomorrow’s New Japan Soul card from Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall.
