44.

Should you beli-EVE the hype?

 45.
Save humanity from extinction in this electrifying story-driven action adventure, made by Korean developer Shift Up, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Experience blistering combat and a twisting storyline as you unravel the mysteries of Earth’s downfall.

 46.

 47.
Stellar Blade has made headlines since it was revealed, probably for all the wrong reasons such as EVE’s character design and costumes that are very revealing, but as an actual game is it more than just eye candy?

 48.
The story isn’t that much to write home about, but the gameplay is for a lack of a better word, stellar. It feels like a Souls-type but one that can be a lot easier overall, parrying is easier and there are even difficulty options if you think it’s too tough. EVE will explore areas full of enemies that naturally respawn when you rest up, but these also contain chests or doors that require passcodes to enter, which are scattered across as you can imagine.

 49.

 50.
Combat itself feels fluid and natural, while platforming sections are hit and miss. Luckily, you aren’t severely punished for messing up a jump like you would in a Souls-like, but it still can be frustrating at times. Parrying is essential to victory, though the timing window is long enough to pull it off and nail a decent combo or strong attack against your foe.

 51.
Boss fights are superb with some great character models and unique designs throughout. I was immensely impressed with the game’s visuals and how the game never seemed to struggle with its framerate throughout. The voice-acting is pretty good and the soundtrack is impressive too.

 52.
The Verdict

 53.
Stellar Blade is an amazing game with great combat and stunning visuals. It may not have the most memorable story and the platforming does let it down a bit, but overall it’s well worthy of your time and money.

 81.

Does this tennis sim serve up another ace?

 82.
The TopSpin franchise returns with TopSpin 2K25, featuring tennis legends Roger Federer, Serena Williams, and a cast of other playable pros, competitive single-player and multiplayer modes, all four historic Grand Slams®, and much more.

 83.

 84.
After a 13 year absence, TopSpin is back. I remember playing TopSpin 2 on the Xbox 360 and absolutely loving it, so much so that I managed to nab every achievement including the online ones. It had a great career mode and was just so addictive, so I couldn’t help wondering why the series vanished and why it’s resurfaced now. I couldn’t find the answers, but one I can answer is if the wait has been worth it…

 85.
This isn’t the TopSpin that I remember, though. This one is less arcade-based and more precision-based, which is unexpected but fine. You will need to register/sign-in to a 2K account to access the career and online modes, which is a bit of a pain but once done you get full access to the lot.

 86.
In Exhibition Mode, you can play as some of the tennis greats like John McEnroe (who acts as the game’s tutorial voice-over),Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu to name a few. There are so notable absentees though in the form of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal who you would expect to be in a game like this, I also wonder why other classic tennis players like Jimmy Connors, Venus Williams and Bjorn Borg didn’t make the cut. Even Tim Henman would have been a nice addition.

 87.

 88.
You can also take these classics on as your own career built character, which is amusing when playing against retro John McEnroe complete with his 70s hairdo. The career mode itself is pretty in-depth as you play tournaments and complete training to gain skill points you can place on areas like power, serve and stamina and so on. The only downside is that there isn’t a lot of customisation options for your character in terms of visuals and while you can name your character whatever you like, there are only a few names that will be called out audibly by the umpire and they aren’t names that most will have, I can assure you that.

 89.
Like I said, the controls require more precision than in past TopSpin games and there is a big learning curve here, even the tutorial doesn’t make it easy on you, so be prepared. My main criticism is that sometimes your actual character tends to be slow in moving around the court itself in comparison to your opponent, it almost feels like swimming in treacle compared to The Flash on the other side of the line. It just seems inconsistent.

 90.
The visuals are also hit and miss. The courts are stunning, load times are short and the framerate is solid throughout, but the character models look surprisingly average and at times, a bit odd. The soundtrack in the menus contain modern tunes as you navigate the options which is a nice touch, but nothing that you wouldn’t expect.

 91.
The Verdict

 92.
TopSpin’s return after 13 years is a successful one with TopSpin 2K25. It may not be the same TopSpin that I remember, but it’s still one hell of a tennis sim. Let’s hope that TopSpin 2K26 improves the visuals and customisation options while sorting out the inconsistencies with the player movement…

 93.
Score: 8.0

 121.

Can this retro-style FPS make the competition QUAKE in it’s boots?

 122.
You are Outlander. Once adrift upon the Ageless Sea, you now find yourself on the shores of a dying world. From the consuming darkness emerges a figure cloaked in white, the Shepherd of Wayward Souls, who burdens you with the task of hunting down the remaining Guardians of the Old World. You must journey into the vast gloom to explore ancient ruins, discover forgotten secrets and battle the horrors that lurk within.

 123.

 124.
WRATH: Aeon of Ruin may not be a name that rolls of the tongue like DOOM, QUAKE or HEXEN but it is definitely in the same league as those. It uses the Quake-1 tech to provide a retro experience that you would fully expect and it doesn’t disappoint in providing that. But is there more to it than meets the eye?

 125.
At first, you only get a melee weapon to deal with your foes and it can be a bit of a pain, but once you start getting guns, then the game opens up to the classic boomer-shooter genre we all know and love. Sure, it may be outdated now in comparison to today’s shooters like COD and Halo, but there’s still something charming about these types of games and this one is no different.

 126.

 127.
The only issue I seem to find is that maybe WRATH plays it a bit safe overall. It feels more claustrophobic due to too many corridors and while the big combat areas are superb, it doesn’t offer any more variety than what came before it. The format is what you would expect and there just aren’t any real surprises to be found, which isn’t the end of the world, but it also doesn’t help it stand out from the crowd.

 128.
The framerate never dropped, load times were minimal and I didn’t come across any bugs during my playthrough. The visuals have that QUAKE charm to it and the soundtrack is impressive to boot.

 129.
The Verdict

 130.
The only real issues with WRATH: Aeon of Ruin are that it doesn’t offer anything new to the genre, while also making areas too claustrophobic. Other than that, it’s another superb boomer-shooter for fans to enjoy.

 131.
Score: 8.0

 153.

Five Nights at Holmes?

 154.
After a long period without finding a job, Jack is forced to join the family business, which he had disowned since he was a child. He begins what will be his first case, simple in appearance, but which will suddenly become his worst nightmare. Embark with Jack Holmes in a macabre story of living puppets, uncontrolled animatronics and more nightmarish beings through places as strange as a house where experiments are done with children, some mines full of huge spiders or a terrifying amusement park while you do everything to survive. You’ll also have to manage the bullets and first aid kits you find… oh, and don’t forget to get on the rides!

 155.

 156.
Jack Holmes: Master of Puppets is a strange first-person horror that has you avoiding deadly puppets and animatronics through areas including a house, mines and an amusement park. The opening section alone may make you want to throw the towel in due to how easy you can die, plus simple things like using a flashlight doesn’t seem to make that much difference in terms of lighting up an area. I honestly had to level up the brightness on my TV to see where I was going, but maybe a patch will fix that in due course.

 157.
It also feels very clunky, the combat itself isn’t great, the story is hit and miss yet despite this, there is something that keeps drawing me back to it. I also love that there’s a Animal Crossing horror rip-off at the amusement park, even the logo is done in the same style. The actual scares themselves are good enough and while I did find the game frustrating, I also found it impossible to stop playing until I beat it.

 158.

 159.
The visuals are a mixed bag and there are definitely areas that look unpolished. The framerate is mostly consistent but has the odd hiccup, while the voice-acting is laughably bad. The soundtrack is pretty decent though.

 160.
The Verdict

 161.
Jack Holmes: Master of Puppets is impressive as it’s made by just one person. It does accomplish a decent horror setting and while it has a lot of issues that hold it back from being a true great, it still manages to captivate despite of it.

 162.
Score: 7.0

 184.
Earth’s last hope against an invasion is a band of military rebels. Zombies! Aliens! Guns! Enough said.

 185.
Zombies, Aliens and Guns is a 2.5D shooter where you shoot your way through hordes of enemies to reach the end of each stage. You will follow a waypoint that takes you to collectibles that you need to pick up to move on, as well as other soldiers who you need to lure to the end of the level, but they won’t fight back and apart from one level, it doesn’t matter if they survive or not.

 186.

 187.
The controls are easy to get used to and you can play the game with a second player if you have another controller lying about. I honestly would recommend playing it 2 player since the later levels and bosses can be tough. Scattered throughout the levels are weapon packs that make your weapon stronger if you choose to keep getting the same one up to 3 times. Health packs are also on the battlefield, though both this and your ammo do resupply over time.

 188.
Besides the traditional getting from A-to-B levels, there are some that are on-rails and you don’t get to heal, but these are fairly easy and shouldn’t pose you much of a problem. All in all, the game took me about an hour or so to beat and I did die a few times on the tougher stages, but it did give the Platinum trophy up nicely at the end in true Ratalaika fashion. There’s also a PS4 version that comes along with it, so you can nab a double Platinum if you wish.

 189.

 190.
The visuals are charming with a nice retro feel, yet looking fresher overall. The framerate never dropped and the soundtrack is impressive overall. I also didn’t encounter any glitches during my playthrough.

 191.
The Verdict

 192.
While it won’t win any awards for originality and it may not last very long and there’s no reason to come back once you’re done, but Zombies, Aliens and Guns will keep you entertained during your time.

 216.
Aquarist begins as your dad walks in your room and gives you a fish tank for your birthday, which acts as the game tutorial. It shows you the basics like buying items to place in your tank, including the filter, rocks and of course, the fish. There are other elements to put in place like the right pH balance and so on, which can be pretty technical but essential for your fish to live long, happy lives. You later get the chance to create and run your own aquarium, a shop and take on projects and orders for customers.

 217.

 218.
The bad news is that the game has no trouble getting in its own way. Something as simple as placing a rock in the tank can become a nightmare at times and in some cases, won’t work at all unless you reset the entire game.

 219.
There have been times where I have pressed every button on the controller for nothing to happen without a reset, It feels like yet another poor optimised game for consoles, which I bet handles a lot more effectively on a PC. It doesn’t help that the visuals are pretty poor and the framerate also seems to be inconsistent. The audio is ok but nothing much to write about.

 220.
The Verdict

 221.
Aquarist is another game that feels like it should have just stuck to PC instead of consoles. It’s controls and interface are awkward, it has technical hiccups and just feels broken at times. It’s a shame because it had a lot of potential and I love being able to run an aquarium plus it’s gift shop. But the sad truth is that it just can’t deliver a reliable experience throughout which holds it back greatly.

 243.
Renovate, equip and restore the shine of the food truck that belonged to your father. Create recipes, cook the food and serve customers across an entire city. Customize and upgrade your food truck to reach more customers and expand your menu.

 244.

 245.
Food Truck Simulator is exactly what it sounds like. You can customise your truck, buy equipment and ingredients, drive your truck to locations to serve customers and so on. The city is open world and has a number of collectibles to find in it as well. But just how well does the grill work?

 246.
You are limited to cooking burgers, pizza, fried food and sushi. Which sounds like a weird combination for a food truck to be honest, but the actual mechanics of it are pretty simple. What doesn’t help is the cumbersome controls and the poor optimisation for consoles when trying to do something simple like select a burger bun and place it on a chopping board becomes a pain.

 247.
You need to cook your food to the customer’s specifications, so the burger might have to be well-done for example. Keeping an eye on that while trying to get everything in place like the salad, cheese and buns is tricky, so you really need to keep an eye on things. It’s trickier than it looks, but luckily the board behind you will highlight what items you need and also what ones you have already got prepared.

 248.

 249.
Driving around the city itself is perhaps the worst element of the game. The visuals are incredibly poor here and roads tend to load as you go, so it feels like the game is loading alongside you as you keep driving. It doesn’t help that the game’s actual loading times are incredibly long, so it makes me wonder exactly what was loading in the load screen when the performance here is this poor?

 250.
The framerate is inconsistent and there are plenty of visual bugs, texture loading issues throughout. The soundtrack is decent and there is a nice story here, it’s just a shame it’s hindered by such performance woes.

 251.
The Verdict

 252.
Food Truck Simulator has some good ideas and a decent story, but more problems than it should have. The controls are awkward which makes micro-managing more complex than it needs to be, the visuals are weak and the performance is incredibly poor. If this was an actual food truck, Health and Safety would shut it down.

 276.

Does this game deserve a one way ticket?

 277.
Metro Simulator 2 is a unique game featuring recreated Moscow Metro and realistic train controls.

 278.

 279.
Growing up in Newcastle as a child, I spent a lot of time on the Metro. Sure it’s not the same as the Moscow version by any means, but the name itself always puts me in a good mood, even the horror FPS Metro series does. So when I heard about a Metro Simulator game for consoles, I had to see what it was all about…

 280.
The game comes with two modes. Free Mode which allows you to pick your own destinations, schedules and so forth. Scenarios give you pre-determined conditions to fulfil and is more challenging overall. But just how does the game handle?

 281.

 282.
The opening tutorial is enough to let you know just what a frustrating game this will be. Highlighting what buttons, sticks and gears to shift are a nightmare to select and sometimes, they don’t even work unless you reset the scenario or the entire game. It feels like a game that should have only been on PC as using a mouse seems it would be a lot easier to accurately select the right controls on the Metro train you are driving.

 283.
The visuals get the job done, but aren’t anything to write home about. The framerate seems fine while the audio does what you would expect of it. I didn’t come across any visual bugs during my time.

 284.
The Verdict

 285.
Metro Simulator 2 has quite a bit of depth to it with the scenarios mode, but issues including poor console optimisation, control issues and at times, broken gameplay really put the brakes on this one.

 286.
Score: 5.0

 307.

Should you go to this space farm, far, far away?

 308.
Do you have what it takes to build the biggest space farm in the galaxy? Help the alien reach this goal in this classic Sokoban puzzle style game! Push cows, sheep, pigs and chicken so that the correct UFO beams can abduct them. (Also, as a side-quest, collect all the hats you can!)

 309.

 310.
I’ve come across many puzzles in my years gaming, quite a few of them that look like this but I had no idea there was an actual term for it known as Sokoban. This one has you push far animals across short areas to their rightful UFOs in a number of tricky layouts. It starts out easy enough, but gets progressively harder with new elements coming into play such as switches that make blocks appear.

 311.

 312.
It’s a pretty simple game otherwise, but for £3.99 you do get 100 levels for your cash, which is a decent amount overall.

 313.
The game has a charming art style with decent visuals for a game like this. It also has a cute soundtrack to boot. The framerate is solid, load times are non-existent and I didn’t come across any bugs during my time.

 314.
The Verdict

 315.
Sokobalien is a simple enough Sokoban puzzle game with charming visuals and a decent soundtrack. It comes with 100 levels which isn’t bad for the price tag. It won’t reinvent the puzzle genre, but will keep puzzle enthusiasts entertained for a while.

 316.
Score: 6.0

 334.

Is this game colossal or a colossal waste of time?

 335.
Do you dare to face the greatness of the Gladiator’s Arena? We present to you the ultimate action and strategy game: Gladiator’s Arena! Get ready to immerse yourself in an epic world, where you will take on the role of a gladiator warrior destined to defeat wild beasts and ruthless warriors in the majestic Colosseum. Epic challenges await: In Gladiator’s Arena, you will be tested in battles of legendary proportions. Confront fierce beasts and skilled enemies as you fight for your place as the greatest gladiator of all time.

 336.

 337.
Gladiator’s Arena is a top-down arena roguelike, but this variant auto-attacks instead of letting you manually do it. Instead your objective is to get near to enemies and dodge, which is a bit odd, but I got used to it quickly enough. The rest of the game handles like you would expect as you survive waves, pick up new abilities and perks to use and so on.

 338.

 339.
The game costs under £3.99 and feels like the right price for what’s on offer here. It’s no different to other arena roguelikes other than the auto-attacking. That alone isn’t enough to separate it from the pack, so it’s only recommended if are fan of the genre and have played every other one out there.

 340.
The visuals are very basic, but do have an element of charm to them. The music is good enough and the framerate was solid throughout.

 341.
The Verdict

 342.
Gladiator’s Arena is a very basic arena roguelike, but gives you the joy of not actually have to do any fighting, only dodging. It’s not enough to set it apart from the rest of its peers, but can be fun in small doses.

 343.
Score: 5.5

 397.

Go ahead caller, I’m kitten-ing…

 398.
In Doctor Cat you will one day live in a society of cats! Step into the shoes of Doctor Cat, a renowned psychologist, and take care of cute patient cats by discovering their stories and helping them overcome their traumas. Complete jigsaws based on your patients’ stories to unlock each of their stories. Read stories based on real trauma and reflect on your learnings.

 399.

 400.
Doctor Cat is a compilation of jigsaws that you need to complete, with each opening up new dialogue for the doctor and his patients, which are also cats. The stories themselves are powerful and I applaud the efforts to bring them forward, even in a game like this.

 401.
There are 12 patients in all and each will fill you in more about their issues as you begin to fill the jigsaw, which is a nice touch. There are difficulty options as well as achievements that require you to beat the first level in less than 5 minutes and the second in less than 8 minutes. Other achievements include beating 3 levels on Hard and replaying several levels.

 402.

 403.
The whole experience should take you about an hour or so, which isn’t too bad for a psychological jigsaw collection that costs just over £4. There isn’t much to write about the visuals since the jigsaws are still images, but the artwork itself is cute.

 404.
The Verdict

 405.
Doctor Cat will only take you an hour or so to do. It’s a decent collection of jigsaws with interesting stories that make this worth the price.

 406.
Score: 6.0

 426.

Did curiosity kill this particular cat?

 427.
Join Felix on his worldwide search as flies a monoplane across mountains, delves into the ocean depths in a submarine and races across bizarre landscapes in a wild and whacky one-wheeled car! All provided by the Magic Bag of Tricks! This new bundle will include two classic Felix the Cat titles, Felix the Cat (NES version) and Felix the Cat (Game Boy version). In these games, players can save and rewind game progression at any time.

 428.

 429.
I have to admit, I never knew there were games based on Felix the Cat. I actually didn’t know all that much about the character, but I thought it was good to see Konami acknowledge their past library and bring it to a new generation with both the NES and Game Boy versions.

 430.
The game handles like a typical 2D platformer with Felix using his bag of tricks to attack enemies in his path, reaching the exit at the end of each stage. Unlike in Mario, Felix cannot jump on enemies to kill them, so you’ll need to be extra cautious throughout your playthrough. The good news is that Felix will get other weapons/abilities to use on foes, even if for a short distance and on top of that, there’s a rewind feature for you to undo your mistakes.

 431.

 432.
I was overly impressed with how close the Game Boy version was to it’s NES counterpart. The layout is identical, though the GB version does have some framerate issues that is probably due to it being a full-on emulation of the original GB game as opposed to using the console’s hardware to make it run better.

 433.
In terms of 2D platformers, Felix the Cat is a decent enough one. It’s never going to top the likes of Mario, but it does a formidable job and one that is a lot cheaper than picking up the original versions on eBay. The visuals are a product of their time, but look decent considering what they were made on originally, the music is also classic of the era.

 434.
The Verdict

 435.
Felix the Cat may not be the most innovative or classic 2D platformer, but it does well and provides a decent experience for retro fans. Maybe Konami can now release other classic games like… the Mega Drive version of Tiny Toon Adventures or the N64 version of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon? I can only hope, but it’s still nice to see Konami reviving a piece of their past.

 436.
Score: 7.0

 458.

 459.
Storyblocks is a puzzle game where you place blocks to navigate your character to his destination. You rotate the blocks and place them in the right spot to continue, it isn’t always a simple solution and there are multiple paths to take as there are 4 different endings to accomplish.

 460.
The bad news is that the game feels like it was designed with PC in mind, but not consoles. It definitely feels like it wasn’t optimised properly for a controller layout, but for mouse controls instead. Simple elements like rotating the camera and even moving the blocks can be clunky and cumbersome, which is hardly ideal when it comes to a game that requires it throughout.

 461.

 462.
The game itself won’t take you too long to do, even with the control issues. It would have been a nice and chilled experience if it was properly optimised, but alas it was more stressful than serene. The visuals are simple, but get the job done. The music is pretty good and the framerate seemed stable overall.

 463.
The Verdict

 464.
Storyblocks: The King is a game that really should have stuck to PC. The controller layout just isn’t adapted for the game like it should be and ultimately makes a chilled puzzler more frustrating than it needs to be.

 465.
Score: 5.5

 483.

Can this potion simulator put a spell on you?

 484.
First person Alchemy simulation with RPG elements. Craft, gather ingredients, grind, dry, dilute them to brew cool potions in magical cauldron. Then sell or drink them to boost one of your super power. As an Alchemist you can use them on cheeky NPCs – You decide! Alchemist: The Potion Monger is a mixture of simulation puzzle and RPG game, in which you can leave your lab, venture into the world and change it with your brews! Take the role of apprentice of the alchemical arts, in a world full of anthropomorphic (described or thought of as having a human form or human attributes ~Merriam-Webster) animals! Choose your character race from a wide array of animal types, with their strengths and weaknesses. And begin your alchemical journey!

 485.

 486.
One look at Alchemist: The Potion Monger and you’ll instantly think of Minecraft with it’s first-person view, but it looks cel-shaded as opposed to the blocky visuals of Mojang’s game. Alchemist lets you scavenge for ingredients to make potions, which you can then use to sell to NPCs, use on yourself or your dog companion, or even use them on other characters with hilarious results.

 487.
You can also use them on enemies you will come across. The potions can do all manners of things including making villagers vomit, causing fires or launching your foes into the air and a few other surprises along the way. It’s definitely more of an in-depth game than I first took it for and was pleasantly surprised with what is on offer.

 488.

 489.
The game handles well and while it took me a while to get used to how to select the right potions to brew, it became easier once I got the hang of it. You can customise your hut to suit your needs, but also to be visually pleasing to you. It’s easy enough to do too, which isn’t always the case when it comes to these types of games.

 490.
The visuals are cute, while looking vibrant and maintaining a steady framerate throughout. The audio is also impressive with decent voice-acting and a charming soundtrack to boot. Load times were short and I didn’t come across any glitches throughout my time.

 491.
The Verdict

 492.
I must admit, Alchemist: The Potion Monger took me by surprise. It may take a while to get used to the mechanics, but underneath it is a charming alchemy simulator RPG that is worthy of your attention.

 493.
Score: 8.0

 510.

Is this Mage not-so-mighty?

 511.
Introducing Mighty Mage, the top-down arena shooter rogue-lite where you play as a cute mage on a journey to become a master magician. Armed with up to 5 elemental spells at a time, you’ll take on hordes of enemies and choose from a variety of upgrades and spells to create unique builds. In Mighty Mage, every wave presents a new challenge that you must overcome by choosing an upgrade or skill before taking on the enemies.

 512.

 513.
Mighty Mage is a very short game with an easy Platinum trophy that you will earn in less than an hour. You choose an elemental spell and go through 20 waves of enemies before it ends. You will be able to nab perks and other spells that go with your element along the way, but you should have no problem in overcoming the 20 waves with each element.

 514.
As long as you keep strafing and make use of the teleports that are scattered in the corners of the map, then you will get that Platinum in no time at all. The spells aren’t all that different from each other and there’s no element that seems to be better than another. The perks can vary from getting more health to expanding the range of your attacks, as well as healing if you are getting low on health.

 515.

 516.
The combat itself is simple enough, hold down the right trigger to shoot and the right stick to aim where you want your spells to land. Movement is slow but you can get faster if you choose to pick it up as a perk.

 517.
Visuals and music are basic but get the job done. Framerate doesn’t drop and the loading times are non-existent. I didn’t come across any glitches throughout my playthrough, which was nice.

 518.
The Verdict

 519.
Mighty Mage poses little to no challenge for most, clocking in at under an hour for the Platinum trophy. With nothing to come back to after beating it, there’s no reason to return.

 538.

Can these Withering Rooms reach new Heights?

 539.
Withering Rooms is a 2.5D horror adventure set in a procedurally generated Victorian mansion that changes each night. Sneak through Mostyn House to gather weapons, distractions, magical artifacts, keys, and crafting materials.

 540.

 541.
I wasn’t sure what to make of Withering Rooms when I first played it. It’s a blend of roguelike, horror and puzzle adventure that is put in a 2.5D side-scroller. It feels like a darker, edgier version of Little Nightmares, but it gives you a lot more tools at your disposal as you use items to distract enemies or take them on with weapons while scavenging for other objects.

 542.
The combat itself is sadly, a bit clunky. The good news is that it’s the only weak aspect of the game, as the rest of the elements are delivered well. The horror aspect fits well with the atmosphere of Mostyn House, the roguelike gameplay keeps you on your toes and the puzzles will keep you engaged.

 543.

 544.
The visuals are impressive with its horror design. Character models are well designed and the framerate was consistent throughout. The music matches the atmosphere and I was also impressed with the voice-acting.

 545.
The Verdict

 546.
Withering Rooms does a great job in blending roguelike and horror together with puzzle elements. The combat does let it down somewhat, but not enough for me to try and persuade you not to pick it up. If anything, I highly recommend it despite the clunky combat. Definitely one for horror fans.

 547.
Score: 7.5

 569.

More than just a COD Zombies clone?

 570.
The Quiet Ones are back in this round-based survival shooter and spiritual successor to the award-winning British horror, Maid of Sker! Face hordes of new and familiar enemies, supercharged elites with unique supernatural powers, upgradeable steam-punk weapons, interchangeable spine-chilling masks and mysterious story objectives from writing talent behind Maid of Sker, Battlefield 1 and Total War: Rome II.

 571.

 572.
The original Maid of Sker launched on PS4 back in 2020 and I reviewed it and it’s PS5 upgrade that came out the following year. I absolutely loved the atmosphere, the stealth approach and especially when they later added weapons for specific scenarios. It still remains as impressive as I remember, but there’s a sequel in the works and to tide us over until that happens…a spiritual successor/spin-off has been released…

 573.
Sker Ritual comes with 4 huge maps to explore and the format is similar to what you would expect from Call of Duty Zombies, but with clearer waypoints and objectives to give the players focus on where to go and what to do. Mission objectives can vary from killing enemies in a specific area, looking for symbols to a safe using a lantern and plenty of other surprises. These can get very overwhelming when faced with hordes of enemies descending on you, especially solo…so I would definitely recommend jumping online if you want to succeed.

 574.
That being said, there are actual difficulty modes to choose from here. There’s a story based one that sets the cooldown for rounds to just under a minute, which gives you more than enough time to scavenge new weapons, upgrades or clues to the next objective. As with COD Zombies, you’ll gather cash for kills which can be used to unlock new areas as well as getting new guns and so on.

 575.

 576.
Every few rounds, a boss-type enemy will be summoned which will require a lot of bullets to put down. It isn’t ideal when it can spawn between rounds when you are hoping for a breather to complete some objective, but it does keep you on your toes to not be complacent in thinking you’re guaranteed on at the end of every round. Weapons vary from your typical pistols, assault rifles, shotguns and so on, but there are a few special ones that can shoot lightning rounds to stun your enemies and also power up/destroy certain items.

 577.
A big difference with this and COD Zombies is that you have a never-ending supply of health packs and grenades, but they are on a reset timer so you can’t become too reliant on them. You will also grab perks throughout that vary from being active all the time to being activated by a button prompt.

 578.
You can choose to play the game in a Performance or Fidelity mode, plus you can have an unlocked framerate if you wish. The load times between maps are relatively short and the framerate is mostly solid with only a few drops when there are dozens and dozens of enemies on-screen. The visuals are impressive on the whole and it does retain the look and feel of the original game, even if it’s a Zombies clone.

 579.
The Verdict

 580.
Sker Ritual is a decent COD Zombies clone. It ticks all the right boxes and delivers what you would expect, while adding in more accessibility options like difficulty settings and clearer objectives and waypoints. It may not be a Zombies-killer, but its more impressive than it perhaps will get credit for.

 581.
Score: 8.5

 598.
For years, high-profile musicians have been getting involved in the world of traditional esports. JAY-Z was once a stakeholder of the Brooklyn Nets, while rapper Nelly has also thrown his money at the NBA. More recently, it’s been esports that have been piquing the interest of recording artists. Below, we’ll look at 7 musicians who’ve been enticed by the world of competitive video gaming.

 599.

 600.

 601.
The Weeknd

 602.

 603.
Known to his friends as Abel Tesfaye, The Weeknd looked to esports when diversifying his portfolio back in 2019. Eventually, he settled on OverActive Media. Despite being relatively young at the time, the esports organization had already enlisted several teams, including Toronto Defiant and Splyce.

 604.

 605.

 606.
Sean Combs

 607.

 608.
Better known as Puffy Daddy or plain old Diddy, Sean Combs is a heavyweight in R&B and hip-hop circles. He’s also known as a savvy investor. It was PlayVS that caught his eye back in 2018, with Combs and a group of investors that included the likes of Samsung sinking more than $30 million into the company. This innovative esports enterprise aims to entice youngsters into careers in esports through scholarships, competitions, leagues, and more.

 609.

 610.

 611.
Post Malone

 612.

 613.
Rapper Post Malone is yet another musician with an interest in video games. In 2020, it was announced that the rapper had become a co-owner of Envy Gaming, an established esports organization that includes several high-profile teams. While Envy Gaming remains one of the most high-profile esports outfits in the United States, this was far from a money-focused move. In fact, the rapper has been an avid player of video games for many years, with the musician previously using Twitch to livestream his favorite titles.

 614.

 615.

 616.
Steve Aoki

 617.

 618.
American DJ Steve Aoki has been a long-time advocate of Twitch and other streaming services. As well as broadcasting sets from these platforms, he’s also been known to indulge in a little game live streaming from time to time. More recently, he’s expanded his interests to include esports. Unlike other musicians who’ve only invested in organizations, Aoki created one from scratch when he co-founded Rogue.

 619.

 620.
After ReKTGlobal acquired the Rogue roster, the organization has since expanded, with teams for everything from Rocket League to Rainbow Six. Keen to see how your favorite Rogue lineup is doing? Get the lowdown on the latest League of Legends tournament or check out the full Valorant schedule at 1337PRO.com.

 621.

 622.

 623.
Imagine Dragons

 624.

 625.
Steve Aoki wouldn’t be the last musician to see the potential of Rogue. After the organization was picked up by ReKGTGlobal, several more musical artists flocked to throw money at the rising stars of North American esports. Imagine Dragons are one such example, with the band becoming co-owners of the company after investing an undisclosed stake.

 626.

 627.
Jennifer Lopez

 628.

 629.
Jennifer Lopez is one of the most multifaceted singers out there, with an acting career that would many award-winning thespians to shame. Nonetheless, Lopez is always looking for another string to add to her bow, with esports being just one new avenue she was keen to explore. After much deliberation, Lopez singled out North American esports organization NRG as her next investment, taking on an advisory role.

 630.

 631.

 632.
Snoop Dog

 633.

 634.
Nobody loves a reinvention quite like Snoop Dog. After becoming joining the board over at FaZe Clan, the mercurial rapper dubbed himself ‘FaZe Snoop’, although he’ll only be using the moniker for official esports business. A long-time fan of video games and the FaZe Clan roster, Snoop’s partnership with the brand would extend to merchandising, branding activities, and content creation.

 657.

Just when you got “Peaches” out of your head…

 658.
Princess Peach and some loyal Toads are about to enjoy a performance at the Sparkle Theater when the wicked Grape and the Sour Bunch bust on the scene to flip the script! These bad actors kidnap the stars of each play, terrorize the other cast and crew, and leave Peach trapped inside as they steal the show. To curtain-call this tragedy, Peach must team up with the theater’s guardian, Stella. Using the power of Sparkle, Peach must take the stage of each play inside the Sparkle Theater and transform to match the performance.

 659.

 660.
Princess Peach has been rescued by Mario more times than I can remember, but since she started having a bit more gusto in the Super Mario Bros Movie, it makes sense for her to have her own game where she doesn’t need rescuing, but instead is the rescuer. Ok, it’s not to save Mario, but instead she must rescue stars of plays in a theatre while taking on key roles during the levels, which take place on a stage that is constantly changing.

 661.
Peach can take on a number of roles such as a swordfighter, a patisserie chef, a detective, a figure skater and a good few more to boot. Each has their own unique ability and the levels based on them are all in the theme of the role for it to make any sense. For example, the swordfighter role sees Peach storm a castle with her sword, while the chef role will see Peach make and decorate cakes against the clock.

 662.

 663.
The theatre has a good few floors and each contains 4 acts of 4 different plays to complete before taking on a boss. The levels are well designed and fun to play, plus the different roles mix things up by changing the formula each time, so you can’t get too familiar with the controls before a new role comes along or you’ll play a second act of another and have to remember how it handled beforehand.

 664.
Bosses are interesting and funny, plus some are not quite the cakewalk you’d think they would be. The game isn’t the toughest out there, but I did die a few times through carelessness or in the case of being a detective, constantly accusing the wrong people which causes you to lose health.

 665.

 666.
It’s a very whimsical game with some impressive visuals and interesting level design. The framerate does have a few issues. It definitely slows down when loading a level and the curtain swaying in the background struggles, but it mostly stays around the 30FPS level. I didn’t come across any glitches and the audio is overly impressive.

 667.
The Verdict

 668.
Princess Peach: Showtime! is an amusing, enjoyable experience from beginning to end. A free demo is out if you want to try before you buy and while a few framerate issues rear its ugly head from time to time, its still another must have title for the Switch.

 669.
Score: 8.5
