35.

The Education Ministry is challenging all principals to lead and be intentional about their role.

 36.
Speaking at the Fiji Principals Association conference, Permanent Secretary for Education, Selina Kuruleca said teachers are not just preparing students for exams but shaping their character and resilience for life’s challenges.

 37.
Ms Kuruleca urged members to reflect on their responsibility in nurturing the well-being of students and teachers.

 38.

 39.
“It is our responsibility, our job as leaders, to look after the well-being of our students and our teachers, both in body and spirit.

 40.
And we do this by starting with us. Let’s lead by example, following the path of a true leader who knows, goes, and shows the way,” Ms Kuruleca said.

 41.
Ms Kuruleca delved into various aspects of nurturing well-being in schools, highlighting crucial points.

 42.

 43.
She emphasised the pivotal role of school canteens in promoting good nutrition, urging adherence to the Canteen School Guidelines and recognising the impact of dietary choices on students’ health.

 44.
She questioned principals whether they would rather to start the day with prayers or mindlessly scrolling through their phones, wasting much valuable time and thinking about things that make them sad, angry, emotional, and imbalanced.

 45.
She issued a challenge to teachers to put their phones and gadgets down and participate in the day’s deliberations, commit and be committed and learn from each other.

 46.

 47.
The Education Ministry has also challenged school leaders to make positive changes, such as encouraging the consumption of water and beverages like “bu” (coconut water).

 48.
“The importance of nurturing intellectual health in schools and the need to go beyond textbook learning and focus on teaching values that shape students’ character and resilience for life’s challenges.”

 66.

A 24-year-old woman charged with stealing money from Shop N Save Supermarket in 2022 has been given two weeks to pay $2000 before she could be released.

 67.
Talei Siteri Bola appeared before Magistrate Krishan Prasad at the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with 91 counts of theft.

 68.
Allegations

 69.
It is alleged that between April and August 2022, Bola dishonestly appropriated more than $46,000, property of Shop N Save Supermarket with the intention
70. of permanently depriving them.

 71.
All 91 counts were read in court, except for Charges 75 and 77, which were not referred to any Act.

 72.
Police prosecutor Walter Taito told the court that although Bola had other matters still under investigation with police, they were not objecting to her bail as
73. she was a first offender.

 74.
Repeat offender

 75.
Prosecutor Walter told the court Bola was a repeat offender who committed the same offense at her previous work place.

 76.
He said the stolen money could not be recovered.

 77.
He asked the court that Bola be bailed on two conditions.

 78.

 79.
They included providing cash bail and two sureties.

 80.
The court then ordered that Bola pay $2000 cash bail with two suitable sureties who are bounded by $2000 each should she fail to uphold the conditions.

 81.
She is to report at the Nabua Police Station every Friday between 6am and 6pm.

 82.

 83.
Although she does not own a passport, the court issued a stop departure order.

 84.
She is to remain in her fixed residence and never reoffend nor interfere with any State witness while on bail.

 85.
Bola told the court she will be able to pay the money in two weeks.

 86.
The matter has been adjourned to May 16 to check on her legal representation as well as the amendment to charges 75 and 77.

 175.

Fiji will host the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Summit 2025. This was confirmed during the GSTC Summit 2024 in Stockholm, Sweden last week.

 176.
“We are very excited, there was a tender process that we went through to bid for the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Summit 2025,” Tourism Fiji chief operations officer Leigh Howard said at the Tourism Super Week in Denarau yesterday.

 177.
“We were up against a lot of destinations in the world out there. It will be held in Fiji from August 5 to 8 on Denarau.”

 178.
He said this was an opportunity to showcase all Fiji was doing in the sustainable space and leverage the Global Sustainable Tourism Council in all the practices they do.

 181.
Sustainability and adventure travel

 182.
“These themes are not only relevant, but essential as we navigate the evolving landscape of global tourism,” Mr Howard said.

 183.
“Sustainability is at the core of contemporary travel.

 184.
“It’s about more than just environmental conservation; it’s about ensuring that our tourism practices contribute positively to our communities, enhance economic benefits, and maintain cultural integrity.

 185.
“As stewards of our destinations, it is our responsibility to foster practices that support sustainable development.”

 186.
“Travellers today seek more than just relaxation; they crave authentic, engaging, and eco-conscious experiences,” Mr Howard said.

 187.
Here in Fiji, we are uniquely positioned to offer these experiences, thanks to our rich natural landscapes and vibrant culture.

 188.
“Collaboration is another key theme.

 189.
“The success of our efforts in sustainability and adventure travel relies heavily on our ability to work together—across industries, borders, and cultures.

 190.
“These are designed to inspire and challenge you to integrate sustainability into your business practices and to elevate the adventure travel experiences you offer.”

 212.

The possibility of a new way of injecting drugs into the bloodstream in a bid to get high is more recently being talked about among medical experts.

 213.
The practice of bluetoothing is a way of withdrawing blood after a hit and injecting it into a second person.

 214.
Though no reports have been made to Police of such cases, medical experts are not ruling out the possibility of it being done in Fiji given the rising cases of Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV) or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in the country.

 215.
During the mini-convention of the Fiji Medical Association in Nadi over the weekend, president Dr Basharat Munshi explained: “I cannot quantify a number or how many, but we know that these practices do exist, and they are very dangerous.

 216.
“If you are sharing a needle with a group of people and one of them has HIV/AIDS then you are putting the whole group that is sharing that needle at risk,” he said.

 219.
“From what we gather, it’s mainly the younger generation, but it could also be older people.”

 220.
He said the practice of injecting blood into another without the proper medical procedures could be deadly.

 221.
“We cannot inject one person’s blood directly into another,” he said.

 222.
“We have certain blood groups, and if your blood group is incompatible, you can die from this practice.

 223.
“You can have what we call an anaphylactic reaction or an allergic reaction.

 224.
“It must immediately be discouraged and stopped if people are doing this.”

 225.

 226.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa said while Police had not received any official reports, it could not rule out this practice.

 227.
“The commonly known methods of drug abuse in Fiji are sniffing, injecting, and smoking,” he said.

 228.
“However, information has been received that abusers have adopted another method (of injecting drugs into the bloodstream).

 229.
“Based on the increase in the number of drug cases where syringes are being seized, and taken into the forensic chemistry lab for detection of illicit drugs, it can be said that there is an increase in the number of drug usage cases where people are injecting themselves,” he said.

 230.
He said some syringes did have visible traces of blood, which could suggest that the practice of bluetooth was definitely being carried out by some drug users.

 231.
“We continue to call for support in the war on drugs, as the solution lies within the community,” ACP Waqa said.

 232.
“Trends will keep changing, but if we continuously advocate for the dangers of drugs from every available platform, it can have a positive impact on current efforts,” he said.

 233.

 234.
Drug Free World Fiji founder Kalesi Volatabu said bluetoothing had been practiced in Fiji; however, it was not yet reported to the Police.

 235.
“It’s not just youths engaging in this, this is across the board,” he said.

 236.
“I knew of this a few months ago.

 237.
“What we need to be asking is where are they (illicit drug users) are finding these crystals both in urban and rural areas, even as far as Naitasiri.

 238.
“What we need to do is not just talk about what to do but actually implement a constructive approach.

 239.
“In South Africa, back in 2017 or 2018, they were doing this.”

 240.

 241.
In Johannesburg, South Africa

 242.
In 2018 British broadcasting station SkyNews aired how, in the slums of Johannesburg in South Africa, the new method of drug-taking was catching on.

 243.
Addicts were taking nyaope (pronounced un-yop-pay), a cocktail of heroin, antiretroviral drugs and even crushed glass and rat poison, by injecting it, pulling blood back out, and taking it themselves.

 244.
Users talk about their aching joints, the vomiting, and the way their stomachs buckle and cramp.

 245.
If they have the money for a fix, they will buy a wax paper packet from one of the dealers and sprinkle its contents into a marijuana cigarette – or simply find a place else to inject it.

 294.

Fiji Development Bank has been ordered to pay a $100,000 fine to Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) for failing to comply with the removal notice for the sunken MV Tunataki vessel.

 295.
The FPCL took FDB to court for failing to respond to several notices of the removal of the vessel from the North Anchorage in Suva.

 296.
The ruling was delivered by Judge Justice Vishwa Datt Sharma at the High Court in Suva last Thursday.

 297.
FCPL was represented by Patel Sharma Lawyers while FDB was represented by Raitivi Akosita Vakacokailagi.

 298.
On April 8, 2010, the vessel was submerged and later sunk due to water ingress through the hull and engine room. A removal order was sent to FDB on April 15, 2010, asking them to remove the ship as it was registered as the lawful and rightful owner.

 299.
In a statement of defence, FDB denied this, saying the vessel was registered as a mortgage for the repayment of a debt from Salia Basaga Shipping Limited.

 300.
They argued that they sold the vessel to Japtec Hire, an enterprise that dealt with the repair and maintenance of electronics goods and electrical power installations.

 301.
The plaintiff argued that FDB had a statutory Registered Mortgage No 15151 duly registered with the Registrar of Ships on July 7, 2000.

 302.
They argued there may have been attempts to transfer the ownership of the vessel to Japtec Hire, however, the transfer was incomplete.

 303.
Records at the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) showed this. In addition to the fine, FDB was also ordered to pay $20,000 in interest and other costs incurred by FPCL for removing the sunken vessel.

 304.
This included damage done to the environment and its surroundings.

 305.
The court has ordered FDB to pay the fine within 14 days.

 325.

Former Member of Parliament Niko Nawaikula has withdrawn his constitutional redress case regarding the amendment to the iTaukei Land Trust Act 2021.

 326.
He appeared before Puisne Judge Justice Daine Tuiqereqere at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

 327.
Mr Nawaikula’s pursuance of this case was in relation to the removal of landowners’ rights to give consent for their land.

 328.
He had claimed the 2013 Constitution took away those rights when the new Government came into power, the legislation was passed and returned to what it was before without having any consultations with them.

 329.
Nawaikula withdrew the case because the Act had already been amended on April 6, 2023, and was implemented on April 17, of that year.

 330.
During the court proceedings, Mr Nawaikula told the court that he had already made submissions and was awaiting approval from the court.

 331.
The court heard that all other parties involved had also signed for the discontinuance of the matter.

 332.
Justice Tuiqereqere thanked Mr Nawaikula for the effort shown and due diligence in saving the court’s time and resources.

 351.
Mr Singh said the international demand for sugar was stable and this presented the perfect opportunity for exporting countries like Fiji to increase production.

 352.

Good news for sugarcane farmers around the country!

 353.
Government has proposed to increase the tonnage price of sugarcane to $95 this season.

 354.
Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh, made the revelation during a recent engagement with farmers in Macuata.

 355.
Further to this, Mr Singh has hinted plans to increase the price further to $100 per ton next year.

 356.
The guaranteed minimum price of $85 per ton of sugarcane was topped up by $6.28 to take the final price to $91.28 for production that came last season.

 357.
“So when the price per tonnage supplied is higher, we need farmers to increase their yield of cane production,” he encouraged farmers.

 358.
“The more the tonnage supplied, the more the income a farmer will gain for their effort.”

 359.
When highlighted on the high cost associated with sugarcane farming, Mr Singh, said they understood this struggle.

 360.
Mr Singh said the international demand for sugar was stable and this presented the perfect opportunity for exporting countries like Fiji to increase production.

 361.

 362.
Comparison

 363.
He compared the production scale of other overseas sugar producing countries with Fiji and it showed the local production rate of 47 tons per hectare was not close to their production scale.

 364.
Other exporting overseas countries harvested above 100 tons per hectare.

 365.
Mr Singh said to aid farmers to increase production, under one of ministry’s new schemes the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) would assist by providing planters.

 366.
“FSC have contractors responsible for land preparation and cane plantation and we have ordered for 28 planters to be brought in.”

 367.
The benefit of this planter it is less labour intensive and plants two rows adjacent to each other in one task. Incorporating mechanisation is the new norm of sugarcane farming nowadays.

 368.
These planters would be distributed to cooperatives and FSC contractors that operate in cane producing areas. However, a cost would be deducted by FSC for using this planting service, Mr Singh confirmed.

 369.

 370.
Farmers support increase

 371.
Farmer, Mohammed Yunus of Labasa, supported any increases to sugar price.

 372.
Mr Yunus believed mechanisation remained vital to ensuring production was not affected by labour shortage or other factors.

 373.
Wailevu sector farmer, Mohammed Idris, said having a consistent price per tonnage would ensure interest in retained among farmers to continue farming.

 374.
During an earlier engagement in grower’s consultation event, Mr Idris, said Government should incentivise new and young farmers in joining the industry.

 375.
“Most of the farming is done by the older generation and there is a lack of young generation of farmers, so Government must bridge this gap,” Mr Idris added.

 395.

The Swire Fijian Drua side that is heading to Canberra this week to take on Brumbies has one thing at the back of their minds and that is to win.

 396.
While head coach Mick Byrne is positive that the Drua can win three more games it is important that they keep winning.

 397.
“We have four victories and I think if we can win three more games, we will go into the finals. We have two at home and three away games,” Byrne said at their headquarters in Legalega, Nadi yesterday.

 398.
“If we get three victories here that will put us in a good spot. When we look at the Drua and other teams, there are other teams fighting around us. They are the top sides as well.”

 399.
He said to retain the win for the games ahead will be a challenge.

 400.
“The more we can win the more we keep it in our own hands which will be a big challenge.

 401.
“There are teams that play around us that are top sides. As we see at the weekend there is no guarantee in this competition, especially when the final is down the line. It is important that we keep winning.”

 402.
While recalling their match against Moana Pasifika last weekend Byrne said, “We were quite disappointed in the change afterwards. Nothing against Moana but probably where we were in the stage of the game and what was in front of us with ten minutes to go. The players were disappointed but we had the victory.”

 403.
“We didn’t win for the chance we had there, we didn’t win when we could have picked up a bonus points and we missed that. But then again it was the win. At this time of the year every win is important.”

 404.
Drua is ranked seventh while Brumbies is seated at number three.

 405.
Drua will face Brumbies at the GIO stadium at Canberra on Saturday at 9:35pm.

 426.

Alifereti Kauyaca has been reinstated the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) Cruiserweight champion after Minister of Youth and Sport, Jese Saukuru stepped in last month.

 427.
Kauyaca was alleged to have had illegal hand wrappings in the Bluewater Boxing main title bout against Joseph Kwadjo on March 2.

 428.
“I had found out a lot of conflict of interest in the BCF board’s report,” Minister Saukuru said.

 429.
“I’ve read their decision and they were a lot of gaps in it, I’ve asked them (BCF) to review their decision and give back the title to Kauyaca as I think he deserves it,” he said.

 430.
“Boxing is a tough sport so when you make such a decision; it has to be concrete, both sides need to be heard and evidence provided.

 431.
“I have reminded the current BCF board to raise the standard of boxing during their appointment.

 432.

 433.
“Our people are now not interested in boxing because of what’s been happening in the sport here.

 434.
“A lot of talents go down the drain and boxers are taken for granted.

 435.
“We’ve been doing some awareness in rural areas like Bukuya and Navosa where boxing used to be the sport for those communities.

 436.
“When the incident happened, the people of Bukuya who were interested in boxing told me that they are likely to withdraw from the sport due to what Kauyaca went through.

 437.
“He’s the one fighting, not the officials, not the board and not me. He is fighting for the love of boxing, he puts his body on the line.”

 438.
Last night BCF chairman Adi Narayan said they had no choice but to reverse their decision because they were appointed by the Sports Minister.

 439.
“Some other boxer we take action against them, they can also write to the Minister and our decisions are reversed – where are the ethics here?” Narayan said.

 440.
“We cannot over rule the Minister. I want to share a similar case internationally, that happened in California.

 441.

 442.
“Back in 2009 the California Boxing Commission revoked the license of former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito and his trainer Javier Capetillo – banning them for at least one year for tampering Margarito’s hand wraps to face Shane Mosley; now see tampering with hand wraps like it happened here.

 443.
“That was discovered prior to the bout – we did the same thing, Kauyaca’s hand wraps were detected prior to the bout.

 444.
“When the wrap was cut off officials found a suspect bandage wrapped inside the knuckle that would be placed over Margarito’s hand – so this sort of thing happened here also.

 445.
“Now on that, our ruling is overruled by the Minister, what can I do?”

 468.
According to Jaduram drainage works on the sides of the park have been addressed.

 469.
“Any outflow of surface water during a heavy downpour is a thing of the past now,” Jaduram said.

 470.
“The clogged drains with overgrowth grass are next on the list and we will get there.”

 471.
Subrail Park will close from today for the maintenance works and much needed upgrade.

 472.
Work is expected to be done before the tournament starts on May 31.

 473.
“This is costing more money; to get a replacement contractor would cost $55,000 more,” he indicated.

 474.

 475.
Jaduram added this was due to the increase in the required labour force and material expenses.

 476.
There is also an increase in the number of washrooms and toilet facilities for both gents and ladies to meet the expected huge turnout.

 477.
Painting works of the pavilion would be conducted soon.

 478.
“We have received three expression of interest (EOI) for the painting works, the council is going through these applications.”

 479.
A shelter has been constructed at the entrance of the park so that spectators don’t get wet from the rain or be scorched under the sun.

 480.
The $40,000 worth of investment on floodlights imported from China is expected to arrive in Labasa by May 15 to enhance visibility during Fiji FACT night games.

 481.

 482.
Seating numbering

 483.
Seats at the main pavilion would be numbered to ensure that fans have reasonable space to seat and enjoy the games.

 484.
“Tickets bought for these seats will ensure they remain vacant for fans even if they come to the park late or go somewhere and return after a few hours,” Jaduram added.

 535.
“There are times where we have observed some nightclubs’ bouncers accepting money from underage children to fulfil their desire to get in the nightclubs,” Mr Liwaono said.

 536.

Night club operators in Suva are putting in additional effort to ensure that no underage student enters their establishment ahead of the three-day Coca-Cola Games this week.

 537.
Every year after the games, high school students are seen in clubs drinking.

 538.
As a matter of principle, bar and tavern operators will be stringent on its patrons before allowing entrance.

 539.
O’Reilly’s Bar Fiji manager Waisea Liwaono said it was important that club owners ensure its bouncers not accept bribery from minors.

 540.
“There are times where we have observed some nightclubs’ bouncers accepting money from underage children to fulfil their desire to get in the nightclubs,” Mr Liwaono said.

 541.
“This is unacceptable and illegal. Some owner’s prioritise revenue over the safety of underage children.

 542.
“This behaviour is nothing new and we have seen the negative side of it.”

 543.

 544.
Mr Liwaono said aside from making sure that patrons present their identification (ID) cards at the door it would be on the lookout for other illegal dealings.

 545.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said apart from the usual school visitations, meetings will be held with nightclub operators, noting the trend experienced in past years of minors trying to enter clubs.

 546.
Another night club owner who spoke on the condition of anonymity said it was willing to work with Police.

 547.
However, the reality was that establishments and Police could do it alone, hence the call for a concerted effort.

 548.
“Parents and guardians should talk to their children. It cannot all be blamed on the nightclubs,” he said.

 549.

 550.
“Police should do its patrol around town and check nightclubs. We will do our job by asking for IDs from the door and no bouncer should take bribery from the high school students who wants to enter.”

 551.
Permanent Secretary for Education Selina Kuruleca also urges parents that supervision of children was a legal, familial and social responsibility.

 552.
“The ministry has met with the Fiji Police, Land Transport Authority and continues to impress through our divisional and district offices to the head of schools the need for collaboration between all stakeholders – students, athletes, coaches, fans, parents, relatives of the spirit of the Fiji Finals.”

 553.
ACP Driu said Police operations were ready.

 554.
“Drug operations will be a priority area of focus at the games venue, with the assistance of the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) and Police Dog Unit.

 555.

 556.
“Running parallel however to the game’s drug operations, are routine drug operations throughout the five policing divisions.”

 557.
ACP Driu is pleading with parents and guardians to talk to their children about the harmful impacts of drugs.

 558.
“We cannot rule out the fact that they may be exposed or lured into taking or selling drugs.

 559.
“The message needs to be emphasised to children every day, so they are not tempted to follow the wrong crowd.

 560.
“Please continue to prioritise the safety of your children, as they need constant counselling and guidance”.

 580.

The purpose of this letter is not to point fingers or score brownie points.

 581.
The Ministry of Health consistently tries to educate men over 50 to get tested for prostate cancer.

 582.
For the second time in the last 12 months, my blood samples have been taken for testing and have yielded no results. Blood samples taken from me on April 17; 13 days later, still no results available.

 583.
This is a worrying situation which must be remedied, with utmost urgency, in my view.

 584.
Will the honourable Health Minister please investigate what is causing this situation to exist?

 585.
Are there insufficient reagents available in West Viti Levu to properly test blood? Is there sufficient room available for local lab testing at MoH expense? This delay is unpalatable.

 586.
Besides, is there any way to extend 70-plus retirees some priority treatment in Nadi Hospital SOPD or do we continue to be lumped in with the 30, 40 and 50-year-olds who seat and await their turns? We left home at 7:10am without breakfast. We finally got attended to well after 10am. Clinics did not commence at 8:00am. They began like 9am. Please check to prove me wrong.

 587.
Can Nadi Hospital do better? I pose my questions with care and due concern. How many more SOPD patients suffer similar consequences?

 607.
“It was a good game against Yasawa.”

 611.
“We made mistakes in the game but we will look to work on it and be ready for the match,” Hughes said.

 612.
Hughes said that despite being relegated he was happy with the progress of his new players.

 613.
“During the start of the season, 80 per cent of players were new and we are happy with their progress,” he said.

 614.
“One thing I have noticed with this team is they have the spirit of never giving up.” During the gym session yesterday, Hughes said that he stressed his players to have a good mindset and a positive one.

 615.
“Everyone was present yesterday for the gym session, including the injured players,” he said.

 616.

 617.
“What is done is done, we cannot change the past but we can change the game in the last few matches left.

 618.
One of the major progresses that the Namosi coach noted is the maturity of the new players.

 619.
“The new players have really developed discipline and improved on their decision making.”

 620.
“When they want to do something, they will do it even though we are small in size,” he added.

 621.
Hughes said that 2012-2013 Namosi backline and this (2024) backline has the similar style of playing.

 640.

Suva U20 coach Seremaia Waqanisau told SUNsports yesterday that player unavailability for training has been a challenge as they prepare against Tailevu this weekend.

 641.
“Most of our players are university students and they are currently completing their assignments before the semester ends,” Waqanisau said.

 642.
“We have our training at 1pm but the players are busy in completing their assignments and preparing for tests.”

 643.
Waqanisau said such as been identified as a weakness following their win against Nadi last Saturday.

 644.
“We do not want to play catch-up rugby because last week Nadi led 12 – 5 in the first half,” he said.

 645.
“All of our tries came from our forwards’ pick and drive, so it is our biggest strength as we utilised it well and that turned the results in our favour.”

 646.
Waqanisau said his backline will need to be more clinical in the contact area.

 647.

 650.
“We’re trying to get the balance of both our forwards and backline attack,” he said.

 651.
“We have a good backline too but we’re not utilising them properly.”

 652.
Waqanisau said his side will have to finish off strong with a win before the eliminations stage.

 653.
“The players will need to maintain their discipline and play towards what has been taught to them,” he said.

 676.

The Tailevu senior men’s rugby side is expecting a tough encounter against Suva in their last Skipper Cup round this Saturday.

 677.
Tailevu coach Samisoni Baikeitoga said despite their narrow 15-22 loss against Macuata last week; they intend to lock in a win against the capital side this week.

 678.
“We are preparing well for the match this weekend against Suva as they are a champion side,” Baikeitoga said.

 679.
“It will be a home game, so it will be a bonus if we win this,” he said.

 680.
Tailevu is ranked sixth on the Skipper Cup table. They face Lautoka in the Skipper Cup quarter-finals.

 681.
“We are already through to the quarter-finals,” he said.

 682.
“Our only goal now is to secure a bonus win against Suva to be ranked fifth so that we can challenge the Farebrother.”

 686.
Baikeitoga said that even before the game against Macuata last week, the team had already qualified for the quarterfinals.

 687.
“These are all new players.

 688.
“Week in, week out, we have players injured and also those who could not take time off from work; we have had to cater for all.”

 689.
Baikeitoga said that while there was a huge demand from social media for them to win, things will take time.

 690.
“Some of these players are playing Skipper for the first time so it’s a great experience for them.”

 691.
He said that they will work on their mistakes and look for a solid build-up before their game against Suva this week.

 692.

 693.
“Our goal this season is to just qualify for the semi-finals.

 694.
“The game against Suva is good preparation for the quarters.”

 695.
Baikeitoga believes that the major weakness he found out in their game against Macuata was decision making.

 696.
“We nearly scored a try against Macuata but our poor decision cost us. We had a lot of possession but we were unable to utilise them.”

 697.
“There were some blunders by the ref but we can’t blame the ref because his decision is always correct.”

 698.
Baikeitoga said that while they have a good forward pack they need to work on their defense.

 718.

The Cakaudrove women’s rugby side has set its sights on the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup final against Kadavu at Lawaqa, Park in Sigatoka this Saturday.

 719.
Winning against Kadavu was the gist of head coach Ana Seru’s interview with SUNsports yesterday.

 720.
“We have been preparing well for the final as we’ll be expecting stiff competition from Kadavu,” she said.

 721.
“We know that Kadavu will not be an easy team to beat in the final.”

 722.
Seru said they will have to improve their lineout defense and running lines.

 723.
“We need to improve our scrums and lineouts as well,” she said.

 724.
“If we win, we are encouraging more young ladies to join our team as we know it is hard for women to play rugby in the rural areas.”

 727.

 728.
Seru said she advised her players to enjoy their final match against Kadavu.

 729.
“We started to make amendments this season and we worked on our set plays, defense and attacking to improve daily,” she said.

 730.
“When these players first joined, they were still new to the sport, but they now understand the concept of rugby.”

 731.
Seru said they are confident of winning the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup this season.

 732.
“I’m very confident that we’re going to beat Kadavu,” she said.

 733.
“Kadavu is very aggressive in their defensive, but we are working on how to adjust to their defense.”

 734.

 735.
Seru said there is a large talent pool in the Northern division which is often overlooked by Fiji Rugby Union (FRU).

 736.
“This is the opportunity that we are showcasing our talent from the North so it can influence FRU to select a few players from this side of the island,” she said.

 737.
“To all the Cakaudrove supporters around the Sigatoka-Suva side please do come and support us on Saturday.”

 738.
Seru said they had faced a few financial challenges, but that failed to deter their spirits.

 739.
“We do not care about money; we’ll just continue with what we need to do, and everything will fall in place.”

 740.
