42.
Have gone back to Come Dine With Me on TV, thinking it is something that could appeal to everyone. And it's good, a bit of fun, a bit of cooking, a bit of competition. Unfortunately the first one we watched is one from coronavirus lockdown, so they're not using their own houses and they're all socially distanced. A bit weird. We watched one from London, and it had a vegan in it, and no-one comes across well. Then after some more Ted Lasso. It's a lot more like a kids programme than I would have thought, but it is heartwarming.

 43.
Unsure about going in to work tomorrow. Might do. I'm working really hard at home, starting early and finishing late, to try and make a dent in this new project, plus doing all the interesting little sidetrack bits along the way, improving our systems. Plus someone at work is off sick with covid, if that's going round the office again do I really need to be there?

 83.
Our traveller is back from Ireland, we are very pleased. Though now I suppose we won't be watching a Marvel film every evening. She had a great time, and so did her dad, that was the point of the trip.

 84.
Glorious weekend here, I probably already said we took our lunch down to the beach on Sunday. Was very busy down there, seems like it must be mostly people from out of town. Back to rain again today, just a bit, but enough to make sure the weeds grow back again. I've put in an hour here and and hour there to try and keep them at bay, but a bit of the right weather like this and they'll take over again.

 85.
Work very busy, supposedly this project going live in three weeks. I have nearly everything I need now, but one key part missing. I've come up with a suggestion for how we can go live without it, but it's considered important enough to not go live without. So I might get a bit of breathing space.

 86.
A couple of hours of free energy today1, which will come in handy. While Clare was away I cleared all the washing and ironing (and we usually have ironing hanging around for months on end, because of not needing the thing and not really having anywhere to keep it). She's brought back a caseload, so it's on an economy wash now, ready to go into the dryer when the free energy hours arrive at midday.

 87.
New home automation has not kicked in, I'm supposed to get an alert when the washing machine starts up, and then another when it finishes, with how much energy it used and what it cost. My plan to automate the new blinds in the bedroom did not immediately get shouted down! So I'll probably do that this weekend.

 88.
Both boys have exams this week. T1 is doing a GCSE on Thursday, just one early this year, he's quite relaxed about that. T2 has SATs which he's also very chilled about. He's already into the grammar school, this doesn't count for much for him, it's more for the school. School have laid on a free breakfast club for them, so he's gone in an hour early, so I have more free time before work. Time enough to do a bit more work.

 89.
I might go into London this Thursday now. Wasn't going to, but it works out with Clare being off that day. It's expensive but it breaks the week up.

 185.
Looked to me that Mum and Dad had this in the bag, I didn't realise Switzerland were one of the favourites. We favoured Croatia really, but I was pleased to take the pot when Switzerland won. The boys stayed up for it all and really enjoyed it. Clare was partying with lots of relatives in Dublin and so missed out.

 186.
Another gorgeous day today, very hot. Everyone's on the beach round here, and we took our lunch down there too.

 187.
I've done quite a lot of jobs today, got all the washing and ironing cleared. One last lot hanging out on the balcony in the hot sun now. Simple pleasures being able to dry clothes outside. I've just automated the washer and dryer a bit, they have individual energy monitors on them now, which I can used to monitor when they're being used. With a home assistant script it will now send me a ping on my phone when the wash is finished. The dryer already did this on its own but now I can see how much each load is costing...

 188.
Got pies for dinner tonight, and I just picked up a load of free veg from Tesco. The last hour of trading each day is the time for the "colleague shop", I can get yellow stickered items reduced down to 0p. Today I got spinach and beans and mushrooms to have with our pies, plus a ready meal (use by today but I'll risk it for lunch tomorrow) and some empanadas as a snack. There was plenty there today, including pizza, but I only took what I can make use of.

 189.
Going to finish Thor: Ragnarok on TV today and then probably watch Race Across The World. We were waiting for Clare, but she has watched it while she is away.

 335.
There's a new bar opened yesterday, called The Board Room. It's an Iron Pier tap room, and it's very good. No real ale yet but that is coming. Spoke to the owner who said 80% of their beer is cask ale, but they only had the keg versions in this bar for the opening. The soft launch was yesterday, and it's about half open. We went for a look today as we could see a sign saying "Shuffleboard and darts", that's the bit that's not ready yet. It's in some shipping containers at the end of the car park of the Harbour Arm, so it's got panoramic sea view.

 336.
This is the view from the bar, of the outside seating area, rather than a picture of the bar.

 337.

 338.
A lovely day all told. We had lunch at home, then I dragged the boys to Folkestone, but as a compromise I parked at the harbour arm car park, instead of walking right down through town. This is how we spotted the new bar. The arm itself was good today, a band called Hullabaloo playing, and with the weather being absolutely fantastic it was heaving there. Took us ages to find a parking space, and the traffic was backed up a bit just getting in to that bit of town.

 339.
I bought a few snacks and treats while we were there, and now we're home again. A little sit on the balcony in the sun, an hour of gaming time, then pizzas for tea and then Eurovision. I have Czechia, Norway, Luxembourg, Estonia, Austria, and Sweden in the sweepstake. There are six of us in, we seem to have too many countries, I think I might have messed it up. This is the sweepstake kit I got from Metro newspaper though. I think my money is lost.

 458.
Another hectic week. We have managed ok with Clare still being away though. She thinks we're going to eat takeaways and junk every day while she's in Ireland, and it's a fair shout. Sunday they had quiche and salad. Monday after the cinema I got the boys a takeaway, but then I came back and had a mini curry, just a portion of the one I'd made in the Ninja. Our meal plans are all out of whack this week, partly because of the bank holiday too - Monday should be penne arrabiata day! Tuesday we had the full curry with all the accompaniments. I did have to go down to the petrol station to try and get naan, as I realised too late we didn't have any. No naan, but I did find poppadums, so we're good to go. Wednesday I did them chicken wraps with rice and salad, and I had the same but some of the free vegeburgers I got a couple of weeks ago. Last night we had chilli, a really good one that Clare had made before she went. Usually I make and it's not as good as this, what was the mysterious different ingredient? At last it's Friday, so Friday tea, so something in the oven like I always used to have. Still a few more days to survive after that.

 459.
The boys have gone to school every day, dressed and everything. Today T2 needs to take a t-shirt in to decorate, they're all going to wear these t-shirts when they do their SATs next week. He's quite calm about it, not bothered at all. He had the last of the extra SATs practice after school yesterday. He's going to smash it, but it doesn't really gain him anything, he's already in to the grammar school.

 460.
Work has been crazy busy, I'm on a new project with an unfeasibly short deadline. None of the things were in place in advance so I'm winging it a bit, but I think I'm doing ok. Work must think I'm doing ok as I just got my bonus announced yesterday, and it is enough to pay for the holiday. Which is good as the money was basically already spent. Will get it in the pay packet two weeks from today and then probably have to pay the balance with the travel agent the following day. Easy come, easy go. I get a pay rise too but it's only inflationary I think.

 461.
Had some free energy yesterday1, managed to fit in washing, drying, mowing the lawn, ironing, and made some food in the Ninja, all in a lunch time.

 462.
Got some more home automation bits to fit this weekend. Dare I automate the blinds in our room? Don't think Clare will like it, but she's not hear. And I have a couple of power monitoring plus which I've lined up for the washing machine and dryer, can use it it monitor them remotely. When they were turned on, for how long, how long each one is costing.

 463.
Suddenly spotted in the week that a twingeing pain in my hip had completely vanished. It had been hanging around for a couple of weeks, like something was twisted. Maybe I was too busy to notice it?
