Mushrooms eat stuff in the ground that plants are unable to process, and then feed it directly to plants around them. It's called a mycorrhizal relationship.

The mushrooms that you see are only the fruiting body. The actual growing part of the mushroom is underneath and probably spreads out for several yards.

Re: Urban Mushrooms: Homepage Copy

I love the best please kindly check out my new magic mushroom and mushroom chocolate bars online shop at urban psillys

Re: Urban Mushrooms: Cooking with Mushrooms of Lawns and Gardens

Thanks for article, good read.

Re: Urban Mushrooms: How to Identify Mushrooms and Where to Find Them

Can you provide a picture which includes all sides of the mushroom? Actually, that's not true. The Chinese incubate some eggs and then eat the egg and the baby bird that's growing inside as well. They consider it a delicacy. Saw this on one of those "round the world races" back in the 1990s. It was a challenge to the participants to eat the egg with the half-form bird in it. ::shudders::

Re: Urban Mushrooms: Parasola plicatilis

there are very few that make you die depending on where you live and the lethal ones are easily distinguished, plus it takes about 2 weeks to die and symptoms come before then so you wouldn't die automatically, check your facts folks

Re: Urban Mushrooms: Marasmius oreades

Its distinctive nutty taste is sought after in France, where it is called “champignon.”
Dd
They are indeed called that in France, and in good parts of Canada too. If you would like to create a banner that links to this page (i.e. this validation result), do the following:

 1. Download the "valid RSS" banner.

 2. Upload the image to your own server. (This step is important. Please do not link directly to the image on this server.)

 3. Add this HTML to your page (change the image src attribute if necessary):

If you would like to create a text link instead, here is the URL you can use:
