It features a torque tamer on the rear axle to handle the power of the 435hp Coyote V8 engine mated to a 6R80 6-speed automatic transmission. A Dana 20 transfer case takes the power to the axles through custom drivelines by Orin Nash. James Duff provides a completely tuned 2.5-inch lift suspension system to include quick-release front and rear sway bars, T-Rex tight-radius arms and Heim-joint steering system with adjustable track bars front and rear. Stopping power is provided by a hydro-boost 4-wheel slotted disc brake system. An E-Stopp has been installed for security as well as an emergency brake system.</p><p>The 1968 all-metal body is a canvas for Ford’s new vintage Area 51 color, and the Bronco is rolling on a full set of five 20-inch Fuel Covert D716 wheels wrapped in Uncle Cooper’s Discovery STT Pro tires. LED exterior lighting is completed by three 7-inch PIAAs, a 16-inch DV8 single-row light bar, two 3-inch flush-mount DV8 LED spot cube lights. The interior features heated low-back bucket seats cloaked in German wool square-weave houndstooth. The roll bar is padded and covered in black Sunbrella to ensure the occupants’ safety remains unscathed by the weather. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a paddle-shifted 6-speed F1 automated sequential transaxle with a limited-slip differential. Braking is handled by red painted calipers over cross-drilled rotors. The Pininfarina-designed aluminum body is finished in Giallo Modena yellow (4305) over gray Daytona leather upholstery. Additional equipment includes a Capristo exhaust system, Scuderia fender shields, a carbon-fiber lip spoiler, carbon-fiber air intake boxes, along with Challenge Stradale (CS) carbon-fiber side mirrors, CS front and rear grilles, and CS-style graphics and rear badging.</p><p>This example rides on CS-style 19-inch staggered-width wheels mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The power-adjustable seats feature embossed Ferrari logos on the headrests and are upholstered in gray leather that extends to the lower dashboard, center console, rear-window trim and door inserts, while black leather covers the upper dashboard. Additional features include air conditioning, navigation, carbon-fiber parking brake handle, alloy pedals, suede-trimmed door inserts, 360 Modena-branded floor mats. A full belt service was performed in May 2018, along with a rebuild of the water pump. In October 2020, an upgraded F430 transmission mount and replacement clutch components were installed. A full service at Calgary Ferrari and full pre-sale safety inspection was completed in August 2022 at 40,591 miles and only found serviceable items needed, which were completed. In May 2023, new brake rotors and pads were installed, along with lower ball joints and both rear shock bushings replaced at 42,072 miles. Clutch wear is measured at only 4%. The sale includes all the manufacturer’s literature, including a Maglite flashlight, complete factory tool kit, service records, three keys with fobs, a Ferrari car cover, an accident-free CARFAX report and a comprehensive service history with receipts since 2010 totaling over $51,000. Power is derived from an all-aluminum 5.2-liter Voodoo V8 engine that features a flat-plane crankshaft, dual overhead camshafts and variable valve timing, with a factory-rated output of 526hp and 429 ft/lbs of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a TREMEC TR3160 6-speed manual transmission with a 3.73:1 Torsen limited-slip differential. Additional coolers for the engine, transmission and differential were standard.</p><p>The R-specification suspension features a MagneRide damping system and braking is handled by two-piece brake rotors with Brembo calipers at all four corners, with 6-piston front and 4-piston rear. Exterior equipment includes the R-Electronics Package, a carbon-fiber rear wing, a rearview camera and a Shelby exclusive trim package. The exterior also includes automatic HID projector headlights, a carbon-composite front grille, functional hood and fender vents, a front splitter with the Shelby logo, a carbon-fiber wing, LED taillights with sequential turn signals and quad exhaust outlets.</p><p>Removable white lettering has been added to the front splitter. The black-painted 19×11 carbon-fiber 7-spoke wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Interior equipment includes dual-zone air conditioning and a voice-activated touchscreen radio with navigation, and the cabin features RECARO sport seats trimmed in ebony cloth and Miko suede along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets, as well as an omitted rear seat specific to the R models. A fire extinguisher is mounted behind the driver’s seat and spare Shelby-branded floor mats are included in the sale. The passenger-side dashboard plaque designates this GT350R as chassis HR102. The Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel frames a 200-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an 8,250-rpm redline, auxiliary gauges and a central multi-function digital display. Additional gauges for oil pressure and oil temperature are mounted in the center dash. The frame and all components have been powder-coated in black. The body parts were media-blasted and coated top and bottom in LizardSkin for protection. The powerplant is a 351W with aluminum heads, roller rockers, mild roller cam, 10.25:1 compression and .40-over pistons. An Edelbrock Pro-Flow 4 fuel-injection system controls and monitors the engine components. It also features a CVF serpentine pulley system, K&N filters and an aluminum radiator.</p><p>The engine is backed by a C4 automatic transmission built to handle 400hp and includes Kevlar bands, Redline clutches, a 2,000-rpm stall converter and Dana 20T transfer case with twin-stick conversion. Power goes to a Ford 9-inch rear end with a Dana 30 front differential, WARN locking hubs and 3.50-ratio gears. It also features power steering and brakes (front disc and rear drum), new drive lines, a ceramic-coated exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, complete Painless wiring, a chrome tilt wheel, 2.5-inch suspension lift with 2-inch body lift, stainless-steel brake lines, six Bronco oil shocks with single steering stabilizer and a BorgWarner steering box with all billet components.</p><p>This SUV was finished in a new Bronco Area 51 Blue with the original Bronco Wimbledon White hardtop, roll cage, dash, grille and accessories, and rides on color-matched Ford steel wheels wrapped in Toyo Mud Country tires. The cabin includes high-back bucket seats with a console, a rear seat that folds up, shoulder seat belts and a Vintage Air system for heating and cooling. On the one hand you have a car designed for speed with killer driving dynamics, braking and performance, while on the other hand you have an off-road machine ready to tackle demanding conditions, equipped with heavy-duty components and providing sure-footed grip on loose surfaces. In other words, a safari car is ready to conquer a jungle or soar above a sand dune with both agility and staggering speed.</p><p>We understand ‒ it may seem like a huge contradiction to take a low-slung tarmac-shredding vehicle with its ultra-low center of gravity, jack it up sky-high for some ground clearance and then slap on a big set of all-terrain tires. However, both Porsche and Lamborghini have embraced this concept with the 911 Dakar and Huracán Sterrato, respectively. Each of these automakers are responding to the emerging trend of custom “safari” builds that enthusiasts have been doing for themselves in recent years. One of the oldest forms of motorsport around, rally racing – with its blend of speed, endurance and off-road prowess – has undeniably left a lasting mark on the automotive world. The demanding terrains and grueling conditions of rally competitions have served as a crucible for innovation, pushing manufacturers to develop vehicles that excel not only on smooth tarmac but also on rugged, unpaved surfaces.</p><p>There is a long history of sports cars winning some of the most intense off-road rallies. For example, in 1971 Nissan won first and second place in the East African Safari Rally with its Datsun 240Z. In 1984, Porsche won the Paris-Dakar Rally, with French rally veterans René Metge and co-driver Dominique Lemoyne piloting a 953 to victory. It was the first time a sports car had won the 11,000-kilometer Paris-Dakar race, and the legacy inspired the name plate for the modern edition of the 911. The car is most recognizable for its role in the “Gymkhana NINE: Raw Industrial Playground” video and its time as an FIA World Rallycross car with Block behind the wheel.</p><p>During the 2023 Palm Beach Auction, a <a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1990-LANCIA-GROUP-B-RALLY-RACE-CAR-268013" target="_blank" class="broken_link">1990 Lancia Group B Rally Race Car</a> grabbed bidder attention with its $110,000 sale, highlighting the desirability of a high-speed vehicle that can be driven on- and off-road. At the 2018 Scottsdale Auction, a <a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1984-PEUGEOT-205-T16-RALLY-PROTOTYPE-216254" target="_blank" class="broken_link">1984 Peugeot 205 T16 Rally Prototype</a> sold for $146,300. Its history and rise can be traced back to the 1980s, but the concept didn’t really catch on until the early 2000s, with several key developments paving the way for its emergence as a distinct automotive category.</p><p>One of the earliest examples of a Super SUV can be traced back to the Lamborghini LM002, commonly known as the “Rambo Lambo” for its association with Sylvester Stallone and his role as John Rambo in the 1982 film “First Blood.” When Lamborghini set out to build the LM002, the goal was simple: the Italian automaker wanted to create an off-road vehicle that had the performance and power of its flagship supercars. To accomplish this, the LM002 received the same 444 horsepower V12 engine as the Countach. At the time, the Super SUV concept may have been too radical, as only 328 were produced between 1986 and 1993. Of those, only 48 were destined for American roadways – one of which, <a href="https://barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1990-lamborghini-lm-002-america-suv-90936" target="_blank" class="broken_link">a 1990 model</a> previously owned by renowned wildlife artist Christian Lassen, was sold by Barrett-Jackson in 2010. Interestingly, Lamborghini had also set aside two LM002s to be converted for racing in the Paris-Dakar desert rally, but funding for the race program ran out before the vehicles could be completed.</p><p>According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Scientific and Technical Information, SUVs became the fastest-growing segment of the auto industry during the 1990s. By 1999, SUV sales had reached almost 19% of the total light vehicle market and, according to vehicle registration data at the time, approximately 8.7% of vehicles on the road in 1999 were SUVs. Domestic automakers were dominating the segment.</p><div id="attachment_41184" style="width: 460px" class="wp-caption alignright"><p class="wp-caption-text"><a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2018-BENTLEY-BENTAYGA-SIGNATURE-EDITION-272720" target="_blank" class="broken_link">2018 BENTLEY BENTAYGA SIGNATURE EDITION</a></p></div><p>Things started to change in 2002. It had been seven years since production had ended on the first-generation Porsche V8 engine when Porsche announced it would now be offering a V8-powered midsize SUV geared towards performance: enter the Cayenne. Featuring various engine and power choices, the standout option that everyone wanted was a twin-turbo V8 variant generating an impressive 542 horsepower, earning it the title of Super SUV. To put this in perspective, the first-generation Cayenne spanned from 2002 to 2010 and, during this time, top-tier <em>supercars </em>boasted 540 to 600 horsepower.</p><p>Over the years, Barrett-Jackson has sold many examples of the Porsche Cayenne, including the desirable <a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2011-PORSCHE-CAYENNE-TURBO-265086" target="_blank" class="broken_link">Launch Edition</a>, as well as Cayennes <a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2008-PORSCHE-CAYENNE-GTS-OVERLAND-CUSTOM-SUV-254962" target="_blank" class="broken_link">outfitted with overlanding mods,</a> speaking to the versatility of the Super SUV.</p><div id="attachment_41188" style="width: 460px" class="wp-caption alignright"><p class="wp-caption-text"><a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2021-DODGE-DURANGO-SRT-HELLCAT-AWD-248965" target="_blank" class="broken_link">2021 DODGE DURANGO SRT HELLCAT AWD</a></p></div><p>From the moment the Cayenne hit the pavement it was an instant hit. Anyone who was <em>anyone</em> was driving the Cayenne and, because Porsche offered diverse performance options, everyday individuals could also attain ownership of the Super SUV. The demand and popularity of the Cayenne prompted other automakers to try their hand at their own Super SUV. Audi began powering its SUVs with the same V8 engine found in its R8 supercar, while BMW followed suit by introducing M versions of its SUVs with turbocharged V8s, churning out nearly 550 horsepower. But Porsche continued to dominate the segment.</p><p>Fast forward to 2012, when Lamborghini announced its Urus concept, effectively putting Porsche on notice that it would be reentering the Super SUV segment. When the Urus became available for the 2018 model year, it was more powerful than the Cayenne. The Urus had a striking, distinctively Italian design, a powerful twin-turbocharged V8 engine rated with 650 horsepower and cutting-edge technology that established the Urus as one of the most formidable contenders in the Super SUV segment. In 2023 ABC News reported that the demand for the Urus was greater than that of the Huracán and Aventador, accounting for more than half of Lamborghini’s deliverables. In 2022 Lamborghini sold 5,367 Urus, compared to 3,113 Huracáns and 753 Aventadors. In 2022 the Italian brand also produced its 20,000th Urus SUV in only four years, making it the company’s best-selling model in the shortest time ever.</p><div id="attachment_41187" style="width: 460px" class="wp-caption alignright"><p class="wp-caption-text"><a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2023-CADILLAC-ESCALADE-V-FIRST-RETAIL-PRODUCTION-VIN-001-259083" target="_blank" class="broken_link">2023 CADILLAC ESCALADE-V FIRST RETAIL PRODUCTION VIN 001</a></p></div><p>Seeing that it was possible to compete with the Cayenne, other manufacturers started to announce development or prototypes of their own Super SUVs. Bentley introduced the <a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2018-BENTLEY-BENTAYGA-SIGNATURE-EDITION-272720" target="_blank" class="broken_link">Bentayga</a> in 2016, combining opulent luxury with formidable performance, including a W12 engine rated with approximately 600 horsepower. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan made its debut in 2018, powered by a twin-turbocharged V12 rated with 563 horsepower. Aston Martin entered the fray with the <a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2022-ASTON-MARTIN-DBX-270497" target="_blank" class="broken_link">DBX</a> in 2020, blending British elegance with over 500 horsepower in its SUV. Ferrari tossed its hat into the ring with the Purosangue, which is rated with 715 horsepower.</p><p>Dodge even took notice of the trend and began fitting monstruous HEMI V8s into the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 707-horsepower Trackhawk and the Durango SRT Hellcat, pumping out 710 horsepower. In 2021 at the Las Vegas Auction, a <a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2021-DODGE-DURANGO-SRT-HELLCAT-AWD-248965" target="_blank" class="broken_link">2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat</a> crossed the block with 100% of its $180,000 sale price benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Detroit. Other Super SUVs Barrett-Jackson has auctioned for charity include the <a href="https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2023-CADILLAC-ESCALADE-V-FIRST-RETAIL-PRODUCTION-VIN-001-259083" target="_blank" class="broken_link">first retail production VIN 001 2023 Cadillac Escalade-V</a>, which is powered by a hand-built 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that produces 682 horsepower. This shift towards alternative powertrains further expanded the possibilities for Super SUVs, offering instantaneous torque delivery and environmental sustainability without compromising on performance. An excellent example of this is the 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV, rated with a GM-estimated 830 horsepower and GM-estimated 11,500 ft/lbs of torque. Barrett-Jackson sold <a href="https://barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/2024-GMC-HUMMER-EV-EDITION-1-SUV-VIN-001-FIRST-RETAIL-PRODUCTION-264692" target="_blank" class="broken_link">VIN 001 at the 2023 Scottsdale Auction</a> for $500,000, with the nonprofit Tread Lightly! benefiting from 100% of the sale.</p><p>The growing popularity of Super SUVs can be attributed to their ability to cater to a diverse range of consumers.
