39.

Good Monday, everyone. It’s another summer-like day across Kentucky as temps spike deep into the 80s. This is ahead of a few rounds of showers and storms set to deliver some healthy rains to part of the region tonight and Tuesday.

 40.
All in all, we are ending April and starting May on a rather warm and, sometimes, stormy note.

 41.
Temps today reach the low and middle 80s across central and eastern Kentucky with the chance for some upper 80s in the east. The west will “only” reach the upper 70s to low 80s as clouds thicken ahead of some afternoon showers and storms.

 42.
These storms are along and ahead of a weak front moving toward us from the west. This boundary never quite clears the area as it slows down with a wave of low pressure developing along it. The end result will be increasing showers and storms from southwest to northeast later this evening through much of Tuesday.

 43.
Some 1″-2″ rainfall totals are likely to show up for parts of western and central Kentucky. As usual, the models have their differences with where the heavy rain producing thunderstorms show up…

 50.
Temps stay warm behind this with upper 70s to middle 80s for Wednesday. Thursday may wind up being the toastiest of the bunch with the chance for a 90 degree temp or two to show up…

 51.

 52.
That’s ahead of a cold front pushing in with showers and thunderstorms Thursday night into Kentucky Oaks Day Friday. Some lingering stuff may hold on into the start of Kentucky Derby Saturday, especially in the east.

 53.
The EURO is a friend of the Derby as it clears the front well before the call to the post…

 54.

 55.
Temps on Oaks Day may be held in check for areas getting in on the greatest concentration of showers and storms, and the EURO says that includes Churchill Downs…

 56.

 57.
Temps in the 70s should make for a great 150th running of the Kentucky Derby…

 58.

 59.
A stronger system may blow in right behind that into the start of next week and this is something the Ensembles have been hinting at for a while. Showers and storms storms are being pushed by a shot of chill showing up on the EURO…

 60.

 76.

Good Sunday, everyone. A taste of summer kicks into high gear out there today as temps surge to levels more typical of June. This pattern carries us into Kentucky Derby week ahead as thunderstorms start to show up more and more.

 77.
Temps today are in the low and middle 80s with a mix of sun and clouds. It’s possible for some upper 80s to show up in a few spots. Y’all ready for fall, yet?

 78.
Highs Monday are also deep into the 80s as some thunderstorms increase from the west. These storms become more widespread Monday night into Tuesday as a front washes out on top of us…

 79.

 80.
We will need to be on guard for some hefty rain totals in a few spots. Local amounts of 1″-2″ will be possible in some areas.

 81.
With the showers and storms around, Tuesday’s temps come way down into the 70s.

 82.
Those numbers bounce right back up on Wednesday and Thursday ahead of the next system rolling in for the start of Kentucky Derby Weekend. Highs Thursday have a chance to push 90 in a few spots…

 83.

 84.
Showers and thunderstorms increase For Kentucky Oaks Friday and continue into, at least, part of Kentucky Derby Saturday…

 85.

 86.
The exact timing of the cold front will be the determining factor on showers and storms for Derby Day, but the current timing means there’s a chance for some rain.

 87.
Much cooler air comes in behind that system as we go into the second week of May. Here are the EURO Ensembles showing another run of below normal numbers…

 88.

 89.
If we look farther down the road, courtesy of the CFS, we find the seasonal model going for a rather tame temperature pattern for much of the country from May through July…

 90.

 91.
Typically that means a lot of rain and storms showing up to keep temps below normal and, sure enough, that’s what the model is seeing during this same three month stretch…

 92.

 108.

Good Saturday, everyone. Our final weekend of April is feeling more like the first weekend of June as summer temps surge in. This warm weather hangs around into Kentucky Derby week with thunderstorms joining in on the early May fun.

 109.
Temps today range from the upper 70s to low 80s in many areas with a few middle 80s in the west. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds with just a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm going up, especially early today.

 110.
This pales in comparison to the massive severe weather outbreak that continues to our west today and through the next few days.

 111.
In addition to tracking any storm threat here in Kentucky, our exclusive interactive radar also allows you to pull up live streams from storm chasers in the Plains and Mississippi Valley, so take it for a spin…

 112.

 113.

 114.
Sunday features low to middle 80s in most of the state with mainly sunny skies. Monday should feature temps in similar fashion before some late day thunderstorms roll in from the west. These will continue into the last day of the month on Tuesday…

 115.

 116.
The setup from here remains very warm and increasingly unstable as we kick off the month of May. This, obviously, takes us through Kentucky Oaks Day and Kentucky Derby Day with the threat for bigger thunderstorms entering the discussion.

 117.
Here’s the EURO showing the increase in storms from late Wednesday through Derby Day…

 118.

 119.
That matches up fairly well with what the GFS and Canadian Models are also showing.

 120.
In the longer range, the operational models and the Ensembles are all hinting at the potential for a deep trough to develop across the eastern half of the country during the first full week of May.

 121.
You can see that very well on the EURO Ensembles from May 6-11…

 122.

 123.
The Control run of the EURO Ensembles is even more pronounced with this setup…

 124.

 125.
That’s not the best look for true spring lovers.

 126.
Make it a great Saturday and take care.

 146.
Temps today will be all over the place with mid 60s to mid 70s in central and eastern Kentucky, and low 80s in the west.

 147.
Those 80s then show up across the entire region this weekend with mainly dry skies. There’s the chance for a few mid and upper 80s Sunday then again on Monday as a strong southwest flow continues.

 148.
This is ahead of a storm system to our west that will bring the threat for scattered showers and thunderstorms in here for Monday and Tuesday…

 149.

 150.
As we head into May and Kentucky Derby Weekend, the pattern is toing to try to throw a few more showers and storms at us from time to time…

 151.

 152.
The EURO temps for Oaks Day and Derby Day are down a little bit from prior forecasts, but would still be really nice…

 153.

 154.

 155.

 156.
The EURO Ensembles forecast a ridge to build back in later Derby weekend with a trough along the east coast that develops and tries to push back toward the west a few days later…

 157.

 158.
The Control Run of the EURO Ensembles is even more emphatic with this trough…

 159.

 160.
Make it a great day and take care.

 175.

Good Thursday to one and all. This is the last in a long run of cooler than normal temp days across Kentucky! Woot! Once into Friday, a summer feel surges into the region for the closing days of April and that should last through the first week of May, at least.

 176.
A touch of frost is likely this morning across parts of central and eastern Kentucky with temps in the 30s. Highs reach the 60s this afternoon as our wind is still cool from the north and northeast.

 177.
A warm front pushes in from the southwest on Friday and should touch off some scattered showers and storms. This happens as low pressure develops across the Plains and slowly works toward the Great Lakes by Monday.

 178.
This setup brings mostly dry weather in here for Saturday and Sunday before thunderstorms increase a bit Monday into early Tuesday.

 179.
This animation starts Friday morning and runs through Tuesday…

 180.

 181.
That’s quite the severe weather maker to our west.

 182.
For us, it means temps reach the upper 70s and low 80s for Saturday with low and middle 80s for Sunday and Monday…

 183.

 184.

 185.
This summer feel may flex again for the middle and end of Kentucky Derby week. Temps from the EURO for next Thursday and Kentucky Oaks Day Friday are in the 80s…

 186.

 187.
Can we keep thunderstorms away? That’s the million dollar question as this warm setup may bring a few rounds of boomers along for the ride. This animation shows this well from next Thursday through the start of Derby Day…

 188.

 204.

Good Wednesday, folks. Our cold front is pulling out of town as a frost threat rolls in for tonight and early Thursday. Hang in there, we have a surge of early summer temps on the way for the weekend as we go into a warm pattern to end April and begin May.

 205.
Clouds will quickly move out early today with skies becoming partly to mostly sunny. Highs reach the low and mid 60s in the north with upper 60s to low 70s in the far south and west. Colder air seeps in tonight with frost likely across central and eastern Kentucky. Lows will be in the low and middle 30s.

 206.
The rest of Thursday features sunshine and temps in the 60s.

 207.
Much warmer air moves in from the southwest starting on Friday as a few showers and thunderstorms show up along the leading edge. Low pressure then moves slowly from the Plains toward the Great Lakes. This brings just a scattered storm for the weekend with a better chance for some strong storms by Monday…

 208.

 209.
Temps this weekend reach 80-85 degrees in many areas and that likely takes us into Monday. Temps may dip a bit on Tuesday but should stay much above normal. Look at the 5 day temperature anomalies from the EURO…

 210.

 211.
This happens as the trough coming out of the Midwest really dampens out as it moves east with another ridge building in behind it…

 212.

 213.
This warmer than normal setup will continue into the first week of May and that includes Kentucky Derby Weekend.

 214.
The EURO Ensembles show a lot of the country above normal for the first week of the 5th month…

 215.

 216.
The Control Run of the EURO Ensembles is even warmer…

 217.

 218.
Now, I do think there’s the chance for some thunderstorms to get into the mix for Derby Weekend and that’s something to pay attention to in the coming days.

 219.
Enjoy this day and take care.

 234.

Good Tuesday, everyone. We have a cold front rolling into the region tonight and it’s bringing a quick-hitting brand of showers and thunderstorms with it. Another frost threat comes behind this before temps take off this weekend as another late May surge of temps takes control.

 235.
Temps this morning are mainly in the 30s with some patchy frost for some. 65-70 will be common this afternoon with some low 70s showing up in the south and west. Clouds will increase as our cold front drops in from the northwest.

 236.
A broken line of showers and thunderstorms moves quickly through the region from late this evening into the early morning hours of Wednesday. This won’t be anything severe, but some locally heavy downpours will be possible.

 237.
Here are your radars to follow along…

 238.

 239.

 240.
Wednesday turns partly sunny with temps in the 60s with colder air coming in later in the day, setting the stage for more frost by Thursday morning. Temps across central and eastern Kentucky drop into the 30s once again…

 241.

 242.
The setup for the weekend looks much warmer as low pressure rolls slowly from the Plains toward the Great Lakes. That will bring some scattered storms into Kentucky Friday and Saturday with the threat for strong storms by Monday…

 243.

 244.
As mentioned, MUCH warmer temps come into the region during this time.

 245.
Highs reach the 70s for Friday…

 246.

 247.
Upper 70s and low 80s then take over for Saturday…

 248.

 249.
Low to mid 80s would then be possible on Sunday…

 271.

Good Monday, everyone. It’s the last full week of April and it’s starting out on a frosty note. There’s one more frost threat lurking later in the week, but the overall temperature trend is looking up by the weekend into the start of Kentucky Derby Week.

 272.
Frost is out there this morning with low and middle 30s for many. A few spots may actually hit the upper 20s. Brr. Highs this afternoon reach the 60s with a mix of sun and clouds.

 273.
Temps of 65-70 will be noted on Tuesday as we get ready for another cold front to drop in…

 274.

 275.
This front arrives with some showers and storms Tuesday night and early Wednesday…

 276.

 277.
A quick-hitting shot of cold gets into central and eastern Kentucky with more frost possible Thursday morning…

 278.

 279.
Those numbers spike back up starting Thursday into Friday and this surge in temps brings a few rounds of showers and thunderstorms starting Friday and lasting into early the following week. No, this isn’t washout stuff, but some we will need to be on guard for a few strong to severe storms…

 280.

 281.
Temps with this setup can really take off this weekend with low and middle 80s possible…

 282.

 283.
Have a magnificent Monday and take care.

 298.

Good Sunday, everyone. Cool winds are blowing across the region and this is setting the stage for frost overnight into Monday morning. Green thumbs are on alert, but KWC regular readers knew this was coming more than a week ago.

 299.
Temps today stay in the low and middle 50s for much of the region under a mix of sun and clouds. This is much cooler than normal and sets the stage for widespread frost tonight as temps drop into the low and middle 30s…

 300.

 301.
Temps hit the low to mid 60s on Monday and have a shot to reach 70ish Tuesday ahead of another cold front dropping in from the northwest. This arrives Tuesday night and Wednesday morning with a broken line of showers and thunderstorms…

 302.

 303.
This shot of cold behind it is targeted more to our northeast, but could bring another frost threat to central and eastern Kentucky Thursday morning. That’s when lows may drop back into the 30s…

 304.

 305.
That lifts out fairly quickly with warm air surging in for next weekend into the closing days of April. This will be accompanied by a few rounds of thunderstorms…

 306.

 307.
Temps during this time may reach the low and middle 80s. That should get knocked down some by a cold front to end the month and start May and there’s a severe weather signal showing up during this time.

 308.
I suspect this May will feature quite a few severe weather signals in our part of the world as some pretty good temps swings appear likely. The EURO Weeklies show May to average slightly cooler than normal as a whole…

 309.

 325.

Good Saturday to one and all. It’s a much cooler pattern that has taken control of our pattern and this will throw a frost threat or two at us in the coming days. Looking longer range, our weather likely turns pretty toasty and stormy as we head into the start of May.

 326.
Temps today range from the mid and upper 50s north to the middle 60s across the south. All these temps are much cooler than the normal highs of 70-75 degrees. Winds out there today will also be pretty gusty.

 327.
Skies today feature a mix of sun and clouds. Those clouds will be around into tonight as well and will play a factor in the Sunday morning frost threat. With clouds, there’s no frost. Without clouds, some patchy frost and temps in the 30s are a good bet.

 328.
Clouds will be around for part of Sunday as a southern system zips by to our south and east. Temps will be even cooler than today with highs will be into the middle 50s for many…

 329.

 330.
With clearing skies by Sunday evening, the stage is set for widespread frost Sunday night and Monday morning. Lows will make a run at the freezing mark for many…

 331.

 332.
We stay cooler than normal through much of next week with another cold front moving in here by late Tuesday and early Wednesday. This brings a few showers and storms with it with a few more storms likely to come at us several days later into next weekend.

 333.
Here’s the EURO from Tuesday through next weekend…

 334.

 335.
Temps behind that first front go well below normal again but bounce back quickly after that with above normal numbers…

 336.

 337.
The last weekend of April through the first few days of May look to be pretty warm for much of the region. Check out the roughly week long average temp departures…

 338.

 339.

 340.

 341.
This same time period likely features rounds of thunderstorms, likely some severe, targeting the Plains States into the Ohio Valley…

 342.
