11.
Gary Player: ‘Tiger Woods’ PGA Tour career completely ruined’ amid “wrong decision”

  18.
  19.
Player dropped a bomb regarding Tiger Woods’ career and how changes prevented him from winning more majors on the PGA Tour.

Gary Player joined the German KW Golf YouTube channel to discuss various topics, including his health, fantastic golf courses, exercise, golf coaches and the difference between pros and amateurs.

  20.
But most interestingly, he voiced his opinion on Tiger Woods' career and how the Big Cat’s choices saw him underachieve, relatively speaking of course.

  21.
Starting at 8:45 in the video, Player dropped the microphone.

  22.
“Tiger Woods had his career ruined, completely ruined,” Player said. “He won the 14th major at the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. He won by 14 shots. The next week, he’s having a lesson from a man who, I don’t know if he played in the Masters, couldn’t break 80, but he’s having a lesson from this guy.”

  23.

  24.
He did not stop there. The 88-year-old explained how Woods continued to make what he deemed poor decisions.

  25.
“Then he goes to another guy who couldn’t break probably 85 in the Masters, with the pressure or the British Open or the PGA on the final day, and he’s having lessons from them,” he said. “Why did Tiger do that? He was so good, but I understand he wanted to get better. If he went along and never changed, he would have won a minimum of 22, maybe more.”

  26.
“He would have gone down as the greatest athlete the world has ever seen, man or woman on the planet, but he made the wrong decision,” Player said.

  27.
Player goes on to state there are at least 20 players that have screwed up their game because of their swing coach choices. He named Trevor Immelman, Mike Weir, Michael Cameron and Woods as a few examples.

  31.

  32.
Tiger won his 15th major in 2019 at the Masters, taking home the green jacket for a fifth time. After that, the horrific 2021 car crash set him back.

  33.
“Unfortunately, he’s hurt his leg so badly. Whether he’ll win another tournament or not is debatable,” Player noted.

  34.
The 24-time PGA Tour winner explained how he will always root for Tiger because of how he changed golf.

  35.
Player did not drop any swing coaches’ names, but those who have followed Tiger’s career likely know who he is hinting at ruining the 82-time winner’s career. Regardless, he voiced a strong opinion that will certainly create some discourse.

  36.
Did Woods ruin his career by changing his swing so many times, or were injuries and other elements causing him to underachieve as a golfer? Sound off in the comments, and let us know what you think.

  56.
  57.
Eastside Golf and Mercedes-Benz collaborated to create a women’s clothing line as the Atlanta company pushed its way into a new sector.

Eastside Golf and Mercedes-Benz USA have partnered up for a women’s clothing collaboration as part of their multi-year partnership.

  58.
It is one of the latest ways the golf brand continues to break down barriers and pave the way to making golf more diverse.

  59.
Eastside Golf co-founders Olajuwon Ajanaku and Earl Cooper spoke with Playing Through in an exclusive to detail their women’s line and partnership with Mercedes-Benz.

  60.
“They’re a great partner,” Ajanaku said. “Intentionality for Mercedes has been off the charts.”

  61.
Mercedes-Benz, a preeminent sponsor within the sport, and Eastside Golf both want more inclusivity. Working with the clothing company gave the German brand a way to do that.

  62.
“All the things that larger corporations have a tough time with or struggle with when it comes to HBCUs, golf and diversity — we’re able to give that, but also run a true business. They respect our business acumen,” Ajanaku said. “It makes us feel like we’re doing this the right way.”

  63.
Mercedes-Benz USA wanted to create a women’s line with the Atlanta-based brand.

  64.
So Eastside Golf went to work to design a capsule collection for the ladies. The nine-piece line is the first time the brand has stepped into the women’s apparel side as it continues to stay true to its signature craftsmanship.

  67. Eastside Golf
  68.

  69.
The collection is dark blue, with the Mercedes and the Eastside Golf logo featured.

  70.
“When I did the photo shoot, I didn’t include men,” Ajanaku said. “I wanted women to have their own moment. I wanted to put women on a pedestal for Eastside Golf, and rightfully so. It’s about time — that’s why we’re truly doing it.”

  71.
Eastside Golf’s intentional mindset with Mercedes Benz

  72.
Eastside Golf’s tagline is to be authentic. They do not want people coming into golf feeling like they have to change who they are, including women. Golf is a space that can handle different personalities.

  73.
“Come into this game as you are,” Ajanaku expressed with such intention. “We did the panel with Mercedes-Benz in Augusta, and we talked about what’s missing from the game and how to grow it. Don’t be anything different. We encourage the women to pick up a golf club and go out there, be yourself and have fun with it.”

  74.
Part of that comes with their nontraditional approach to golf fashion. They are a brand that encourages its customers to embrace its culture. It is about being original.

  75.

  76.
  77. Eastside Golf
  78.

  79.
“That is missing — people being their authentic selves,” Ajanaku said. “We push that for the women. That’s going to grow the game, because women’s thoughts on certain things — it’s missing. We need that inside the game.”

  80.
The women’s collection is just one of the initiatives Mercedes-Benz USA has collaborated on with Eastside Golf. The luxury car brand also helped create an Augusta Community Day and invited the Morehouse Golf team to attend The Masters.

  81.
They hosted over 300 players at the community day and gave away 72 pairs of shoes, in addition to grants for men’s and women’s golf programs.

  82.
Cooper and Ajanaku have even more planned with Mercedes-Benz USA.

  83.
“We have our Eastside Golf Invitational coming up in New York City. We’ll have a presence there working with Mercedes,” Cooper said. “We have a community day in Atlanta with that being the U.S. headquarters; they plan on leaning in there. We’re going to continue to push forward. That is the linchpin between the community and big luxury brands like Mercedes.”

  84.
Their partnership started eight months ago and they have already accomplished so much together.

  85.
As golf fashion continues to gain traction in becoming part of the sport’s lexicon, Eastside and Mercedes have the opportunity to help grow the game like never before.

  106.
Woods explained why red is his signature color and promoted his new clothing line on the Today Show.

Tiger Woods' clothing and apparel brand, Sun Day Red, is finally here. The brand officially launched Wednesday.

  107.
Woods promoted the line on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Tuesday evening before joining Carson Daly on the Today Show Wednesday morning.

  108.
Daly and Woods spoke about various topics, from Scottie Scheffler’s wild swing to the relationship with his children. Daly also wanted to know why the Big Cat wears his signature color.

  109.
“My mom thought that being born a Capricorn that red was my power color,” Woods explained. “In some of the junior golf events in So Cal, I would wear red, and I won. Then, in spite, I wore blue at other tournaments — I didn’t win. So I then switched to red, and I had a lot more success wearing red.”

  117.
The 15-time major winner explained that he had to make a deal with his mom.

  118.
“I’ll wear red at big events, on the last round of big events, because I cannot wear it every single day,” he said. “She said fine, ‘just wear it the last day,’ and I’m wearing it.”

  120.
Shortly thereafter ahead of the Genesis Invitational, Woods unveiled his Sun Day Red brand with a few signature pieces, but May 1 marked the first time the public could purchase the products.

  121.
Although the first collection ironically did not include red clothing, many of the items had already sold out.

  122.
Woods explained to Daly the idea behind the new logo and his goal.

  123.
“The logo is a tiger. It’s nice and clean. There is some representation of what I have done in my career. There’s 15 stripes — I’ve won 15 major championships,” Woods said. “My goal is to ruin the logo. I want to keep ruining the logo. The trademark is this, and my job is to ruin it.”

  160.
United States Congress demanding answers on Andretti F1 bid

  165.

  166.
  167.
After Andretti’s F1 bid was denied, Congress is seeking answers

Earlier this year Formula One Management (FOM), the commercial rights holders for Formula One, denied a prospective bid from Andretti Motorsport and General Motors (Andretti) to join the F1 grid. Now a group is seeking answers regarding that denial.

  168.
Members of the United States Congress.

  169.
In a letter directed to Gregory Maffei, President and CEO of Liberty Media Corporation — the company that owns F1 — four members of Congress are expressing “concerns with apparent anti-competitive actions that could prevent two American companies, Andretti Global and General Motors (GM), from producing and competing in Formula 1.”

  170.
In addition, the members of Congress assert that the rejection “ ... appears to be driven by the current line-up of European Formula 1 race teams, many of which are affiliated with foreign automobile manufacturers that directly compete with American automotive companies like GM. It is unfair and wrong to attempt to block American companies from joining Formula 1, which could also violate American antitrust laws.”

  171.
Specifically, the members of Congress are requesting answers to four specific questions:

  172.

  173.
“Under what authority does FOM proceed to reject admission of Andretti Global? What is the rationale for FOM’s rejection, especially with respect to Andretti Global and its partner GM, potentially being the first American-owned and American-built race team?”

  174.
“How does FOM’s denial of Andretti Global and GM, American-=owned companies, square with Sherman Act requirements, since the decision will benefit incumbent European racing teams and their foreign automobile manufacturing affiliates?” The Sherman Antitrust Act, passed in 1890, governs and prescribes the idea and notion of free competition among those engaged in commerce.

  175.
“How much did GM’s and Andretti’s entrance into racing competition taking a portion of the racking market share and GM’s entry into the European market taking market share each play into the decision to deny admission to the Andretti Global team, given the public outcry of Formula 1 teams against a new American competitor?”

  176.

  177.
As you can see from many of these questions raised by the members of Congress, they point to the outcry from many existing teams about an 11th team joining the F1 grid.

  178.
The four members of Congress who signed the letter — John James (R-MI), Don G. Davis (D-NC), Jim Banks (R-IN), and Jake Ellzey (R-TX) are requesting a response by May 3, just as the Miami Grand Prix is getting underway.

  179.
In addition to the letter, which you can read in full here, Mario Andretti was on Capitol Hill Wednesday where he appeared with additional members of Congress on behalf of the team:

The Andrettis are trying to bring an American team to F1 with American-made GM motors. pic.twitter.com/nFu5PUswTw
— Laura K. 185.
  186.

  187.
At this point, there has not been a response from Liberty Media or FOM to the request from Congress.

He sat with Carson Daly for 10 minutes and tackled a number of topics. They divulged their relationship as young golfers playing together in Southern California, Woods explained why he wears red and detailed the different relationships he has with each of his children.

  208.
But Daly kicked things off asking about the current history being made in professional golf.

  219.
Of course, he is referencing the viral videos of Scheffler’s feet sliding all over the place through impact. Yet, somehow he is the best ball striker on the planet and it is not even close.

  220.
“You just sit back and watch ball flight, there is something different about his. It’s just so consistent and he works it both ways.

  221.
“It’s just a matter if he putts decent, he is going to win. If he putts great, he is blowing away fields. If he has a bad putting week, he contends.

  222.
“He’s just that good a ball striker,” said Woods.

  223.
As simple as it sounds, Tiger is spot on.

  224.
Think back to 2023. Golf fans were wondering as Scheffler’s putting woes continued, ‘imagine if Scottie could putt.’

  225.
We are all finding out now what happens when he is strong on the greens. As Woods said, when he putts well, the tournament is over before it even starts. Even if Scheffler putts just decently, he is still winning tournaments.

  226.
We have not seen this level of domination on the PGA Tour since prime Tiger Woods nearly 20 years ago. The numbers back that up, too.

  227.
Scheffler has the best strokes gained tee-to-green numbers since Woods.

  231.
Scottie Scheffler celebrates 2024 Masters Tournament win

  232.

  233.
Scheffler has won four of his last five starts. The last player to do that was Tiger in the 2004-2005 season.

  234.
Of course, Woods went on to win three more, making it seven of eight. But that is why he is widely regarded as one of the two greatest golfers to ever live.

  235.
Scheffler has a long way to go to earn any type of distinction like that. But if he continues this torrid pace, he is sure to climb the ranks historically.

  256.
  257.
Everyone needs to be less online

Sighs, it’s May and we have to talk about Colorado football for all the wrong reasons. The college football offseason is well underway and Colorado is aiming to improve on a 4-8 season where they dropped eight of their last nine games.

  258.
Much has been made about the roster turnover Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders has put the team through since he was hired, and that lack of depth came back to bite them as the season went along. On Apr. 29, The Athletic’s Max Olson wrote a story catching up with some of the 53 players that were told to enter the transfer portal by Deion Sanders and Colorado before the 2023 season started, and some of the quotes found their way back to Boulder, causing starting QB Shedeur Sanders to respond on social media.

  259.

  260.

  261.
Ion even remember him tbh. Bro had to be very mid at best. https://t.co/qwK48Ys0Et
— Shedeur Sanders (@ShedeurSanders) April 30, 2024
  262.

  263.
  264.
  265.

  266.
The first reaction to Sanders’ tweet is simple: it’s ok to not tweet. I don’t think this is going to affect Sanders’ draft stock or anything, but it’s more of a knucklehead thing to do. It’s fine to leave quotes as they are without adding on or anything.

  267.
On Wednesday, Deion Sanders made his presence known in the feedback from this story. It started off pretty fine, with him defending Shedeur on social media:

  268.

  269.

  270.
He will be a top 5 pick. Where yo son going ? Lololol I got time today. Lololol https://t.co/tGS6dfm7iy
— COACH PRIME (@DeionSanders) May 1, 2024
  271.

  272.
  273.
  274.

  275.
However, it quickly turned into something different, and something I’d argue is much worse.

  276.

  277.

  278.
Lawd Jesus https://t.co/WVIBSUE14X
— COACH PRIME (@DeionSanders) May 1, 2024
  279.

  280.
  281.
  282.

  283.
We’ve quickly reached the point where everyone involved should probably stop tweeting. Deion defending his son is cool, it’s something every dad would do if their child was in Shedeur’s place. However, belittling and blasting former players on social media is definitely not the way to go. It’s ok to simply say what every coach says and call it ‘rat poison’ or ‘let everyone talk, we’ll do the work here’ type of thing, but this is a bridge too far. A coach can’t make fun of players on social media.

  284.
The entire Deion Sanders/Colorado era has been extremely fascinating, even if it’s only been one year. There are a lot of shades of grey mixed into this gold and black. While the roster upheaval is unprecedented at the Power 5 level, Colorado’s program before Sanders was in a terrible place, coming off a 1-11 season. Sanders and Colorado getting them to 4-8 is impressive, even with the late season slide being taken into consideration. Yet, how the roster was turned over is a much bigger problem, showing cracks of potential instability of the program.

  285.
Jettisoning dozens of players from the team and creating a depth issue in the first year was a major risk, especially when the goal is to bring a bunch of transfers in for a couple of years. This would be fine if the Buffaloes were also doing at least a little well in the high school recruiting areas, but even that comes with some hiccups. Colorado is 15th in the Big 12 in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings, 80th overall. If you want to go by On3 team rankings, Colorado is 57th overall and 12th in the conference. Getting in a bunch of transfers is fine, but you need guys on those four-year cycles to raise the floor of the team and provide depth. That’s not happening in Boulder, and it creates some sustainability issues.

  286.
Overall, the big lesson here is to not tweet, because there are some things that are better off being said behind closed doors.

  304.

  305.
  306.
The Carolina Panthers have used so many draft picks on so few contributors.

The Carolina Panthers have a very unique aversion to delaying pleasure. Whether it’s their owner, David Tepper, who has shown impulsive behavior over the years or the organization as a whole, the Panthers have most certainly not wanted to wait to use their NFL Draft picks.

  307.
In the 2024 NFL Draft under new general manager Dan Morgan, the Panthers moved down a few times to pick up more draft capital, but that was very much out of necessity. Under previous regimes in 2021, 2022 and 2023, they traded a bunch of their picks for players or to move up in the draft.

  308.
In the 2023 draft, they traded a total of seven draft picks to come away with five total players, and only two are going to be on their 2024 roster.

  309.
In the 2024 draft, they traded six draft picks to come away with four total players, and only two are going to be on their 2024 roster.

  310.
When you add in the 2025 pick they traded last year, the Panthers moved 14 draft picks for a total of just four players who will be on their 2024 roster; Bryce Young, DJ Johnson, Xavier Legette, and Diontae Johnson.

  311.
Here are all the transactions where the Panthers used draft picks to trade up or trade for a player since the start of the 2023 NFL Draft.

  312.
2023 NFL Draft

  313.

  314.
Traded their first-round (9 overall) and second-round (61 overall) picks as part of the package to move up and select QB Bryce Young first overall.

  315.
Traded their third-round selection (79 overall) as part of a 2022 trade up to get into the third round to select QB Matt Corral. (He was not on the 2023 roster.)

  316.
Traded third-round (93 overall) and fourth-round (132 overall) picks to move up to pick 80 and select pass rusher DJ Johnson.

  317.
Traded sixth-round pick (187 overall) in exchange for Stephon Gilmore in October 2021. (He was not on the roster in 2022 or 2023.)

  318.
Traded seventh-round pick (226 overall) as part of a package to acquire WR Laviska Shenault in August 2022.

  319.

  320.
2024 NFL Draft

  321.

  322.
Traded their first-round pick (first overall) as part of the package to move up and select QB Bryce Young first overall in 2023.

  323.
Traded their second-round pick (33 overall) and sixth-round pick (200 overall) as part of a package to move up one spot to select WR Xavier Legette.

  324.
Traded their fifth-round selection in exchange for QB Baker Mayfield in July 2022. (Mayfield was released in December 2022.)

  325.
Traded sixth-round pick (177 overall) as part of a package to acquire WR Laviska Shenault in August 2022.

  326.
Traded sixth-round pick (178 overall) as part of package to acquire WR Diontae Johnson in March 2024.

  327.

  328.
2025 NFL Draft

  329.

Traded their second-round pick as part of the package to move up and select QB Bryce Young first overall in 2023.

  330.

  331.
It’s pretty easy to notice that the Panthers have been chasing quarterbacks for multiple years. Trading three picks for Sam Darnold in 2021 before trading for Baker Mayfield, Matt Corral, and finally Bryce Young haven’t resulted in success (with the caveat that Young’s story is far from written). To recap, it’s 10 total draft picks since 2021 for four different quarterbacks. To compound the matter, the Panthers ended up with the first overall pick in 2024, and would have had their pick of a historic QB class, where six signal-callers went in the first twelve picks.

  332.
DJ Johnson had an underwhelming season after being a third-round pick, adjusting to the NFL in his rookie year. He played in 13 games, starting 3, with 16 tackles and no sacks despite playing nearly one-third of Carolina’s defensive snaps. There’s nothing to say he can’t take a big step forward in Year 2 and beyond.

  333.
Young and Johnson are the only two players on the list of traded-for players that have played for Carolina and are still going to be on the roster in 2024.

  334.
Corral missed his rookie season with a foot injury and was waived prior to the 2023 season. Gilmore only played a handful of games in Carolina before leaving via free agency. Shenault signed with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason after 37 catches for 332 yards and 1 touchdown in two seasons with the Panthers. Mayfield was released in December 2022 and, after a strong finish to the season with the Rams, joined Carolina’s division rival, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to be their starting quarterback following the retirement of Tom Brady. Mayfield just signed a contract extension in Tampa.

  335.
Morgan is a very respected NFL front office exec, but he has started his tenure with his hands tied behind his back by former Panthers GM Scott Fitterer and coach Matt Rhule. If Young hits, it will be worth it, but if he doesn’t, Carolina will be playing catch up for a long time.

  347.
Carmelo Anthony explains why USA Basketball needs ‘The Avengers’ at Paris Olympics on ‘Point Forward’

  348.

  351.
  352.

  353.
  354.
Carmelo Anthony can’t wait to see USA Basketball in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Carmelo Anthony was the guest this week for episode 100 of “Point Forward” and the NBA legend didn’t mince his words when he discussed the need for Team USA to make a major statement at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

  355.
To this end, from a business perspective, Melo believes 2024 Team USA is on pat with the 1992 Dream Team when it comes to hype. That’s a serious statement when talking about the most famous basketball team of all time. Just so we’re clear: This is the roster for the 2024 games.

  356.
PG: Stephen Curry/ Tyrese Haliburton/ Jrue Holiday
SG: Anthony Edwards/ Devin Booker
SF: LeBron James/ Jayson Tatum/ Kevin Durant
PF: Anthony Davis/ Kawhi Leonard
C: Joel Embiid/ Bam Adebayo

  357.
You can move the starters around however you want, but this is a loose guide of what USA is putting on the court this summer. It represents some of the biggest international stars in basketball, both of the last 20 years with Steph, LeBron and KD — but also the newer generation of stars like Ant, Tatum, and Embiid.

  358.

“International players damn taking over the league,” Melo says. “Now we’ve got to put our Avengers together to take on these other countries.”

  359.
Obviously he’s referring to Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, and now Victor Wembanyama — all of whom have taken the NBA by storm. It used to be that the USA could more or less send whoever and still at least compete, but now the game is so global that our second and third tiers aren’t good enough.

  360.

“All eyes. It’s all eyes. There’s pressure too. Because these other countries, these guys are playing against them every single day.”

  361.
Melo’s point here is fascinating, and accurate. Go back a decade and each international team maybe had one or two NBA players on them if they were lucky. Even then the world’s best weren’t going head-to-head vs. the LeBron’s or KDs on a nightly basis. Now there’s more parity, and more importantly the international players can’t be stunned the way they used to when matched up against NBA talent.
