Normally, investors would consider that a pretty good year, but up until a week ago, that figure was over 40%.

Thanks to a 10% plummet the day following its earnings report, Meta lost a lot of ground it had gained. But unlike some investors, I don't think this news is a reason to sell; it's one to buy.

Meta Platforms is probably better known by its former name, Facebook. Even though it changed its name a couple of years ago, Meta Platforms is still driven by its social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

Dividend Investors Love Coca-Cola Stock and Pepsi Stock. Both companies have two key traits that dividend investors crave: Predictability and high yields.

Coca-Cola and Pepsi are two of the most predictable dividend payers on the market. Both companies have paid and increased their dividends for more than 50 years (61 years and 51 years, respectively), earning them the prestigious title Dividend King.

Coca-Cola and Pepsi are also both considered to have high-yield dividends -- a yield is how much investors get back compared to the value of the investment. The yield for Coca-Cola is over 3%, whereas the yield for Pepsi is just below that. But as the chart below shows, the yield for both companies is more than double the average for the S&P 500.

Watch Out, Growth Stock Investors: Archer Aviation Still Hasn't Been Cleared for Takeoff

Archer Aviation has a cool product, but it isn't anywhere near ready for prime time. It has a functioning prototype of what looks like a plane/helicopter hybrid. While not exactly a futuristic design, it's still pretty cool, and the idea of flying around a city, avoiding ground traffic, is likely to be compelling to many people. The only problem is that Archer Aviation is still a long way away from being able to mass-produce and sell its aircraft. Here's what you need to understand before you buy into this story stock.

If you've ever been stuck in the traffic gridlock that can occur in a city, you know just how desirable it would be to fly above it all and get to where you're going without any delays. That's the underlying story that Archer Aviation is playing up. With a prototype proving it can make good on that dream, it wouldn't be shocking to see investors interested in the company's shares.

Forget Altria: This Stock Is a Much Better Buy Right Now

If you are looking at Altria today, you should consider owning Philip Morris International instead. But yields usually don't get that high without a good reason, which is why most long-term dividend investors should probably consider Philip Morris International (NYSE: PM) instead, despite a lower yield. Here's what you need to know to make the call.

In early 2008 Altria spun off Philip Morris International. In effect, Altria retained the rights to sell Philip Morris brands in the United States while Philip Morris International sold those same brands outside the United States. In this way, the two companies share the same iconic cigarette brand portfolio, which includes industry giant Marlboro.

According to Altria: "Altria's Board of Directors and management believed that the spin-off would enable each of Altria's international and domestic tobacco businesses to focus exclusively on realizing its own opportunities and addressing its own challenges, thereby building long-term shareholder value."

Is Tesla Just a Car Company?

Many bears view Tesla as no more than an overvalued auto manufacturer, but the company is making notable strides across green energy and artificial intelligence (AI).

One of the biggest knocks against electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is the idea it's just a car company, not a tech giant that deserves a place among the Magnificent Seven.

Indeed, EV sales account for the large majority of Tesla's revenue. However, besides the massive potential behind opportunities like artificial intelligence (AI) that bullish investors may point to, the company has an existing energy storage business too.

Let's explore some of Tesla's capabilities outside of manufacturing EVs and assess what the company could look like in the long run.

Berkshire Hathaway Trims Its Apple Investment and Has $189 Billion in Cash

The conglomerate just reported its first-quarter results, so here's a rundown of the key figures.

Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A)(NYSE: BRK.B) reported first-quarter results on Saturday, and there's quite a bit to unpack. In addition to the headline revenue and earnings numbers, investors always watch Berkshire's cash stockpile, buyback activity, and the operating income from its subsidiary businesses.

With that in mind, here's a rundown of the key numbers, a major investment move that was revealed, and the important information we don't know yet.

Warren Buffett himself has cautioned investors not to pay too much attention to the company's net income (earnings per share, or EPS), as it includes unrealized investment gains and losses from Berkshire's massive stock portfolio. That's especially true for the first quarter, as an excellent first quarter of 2023 resulted in an EPS decline of 64% -- even though Berkshire's business performed quite well, as we'll see in the next section.

Could Palantir Technologies Be a $1 Trillion Stock by 2030?

How much could Palantir Technologies stock be worth if it continues to grow at a rate of more than 20% for the next seven years?

There's a lot of hype and excitement around Palantir Technologies (NYSE: PLTR) these days; in just the past 12 months, its shares have surged by 190%. The data analytics company has some promising growth prospects, particularly when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI). Many investors are hopeful that the company can be the next big name in tech. Today, the business is worth around $50 billion. But with so much potential on the horizon, is it possible that this becomes a $1 trillion stock by the end of the decade?

On April 4, Palantir and database giant Oracle announced that they would be joining forces to provide cloud and AI solutions to both businesses and governments. Palantir is going to use Oracle's cloud infrastructure for its foundry workloads. And its AI platform will also be deployable on Oracle's cloud network.

Oracle, which has a market cap of around $320 billion, is a much larger tech company, and it can help Palantir potentially reach more customers by working together. By combining Palantir's advanced analytics solutions with Oracle's strong and reliable infrastructure, together the companies can provide businesses and government organizations with robust solutions.

Time to Buy This 7.4%-Yielding Stock on a Dip?

This stock's valuation is extremely attractive, but its recent results weren't confidence-inspiring.

There's a reason why Whirlpool (NYSE: WHR) trades on less than 7 times the midpoint of management's full-year earnings per share guidance of $13 to $15 and with a dividend yield of 7.2%. Simply put, the market has little faith in management's guidance, and unfortunately, the latest first-quarter earnings report did little to dispel those fears. That said, there's a margin of safety baked into the valuation. Is it enough to justify buying the stock?

Testing an investment hypothesis with hard evidence of a trend in quarterly results makes sense. In that vein, here's a brief recap of the case for Whirlpool in 2024.

Investors understand that this will be a challenging year for Whirlpool. Management forecasts like-for-like sales to be flat at $16.9 billion, and ongoing earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) to also be flat at 6.8%. That's understandable in a year when relatively high interest rates are pressuring the housing market and discretionary spending on household appliances.

Is Intel Stock a Buy?

It could be worth buying Intel's stock at a low and betting on its ability to rebound strongly over the next decade.

Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) was once the world's leading chipmaker. The company dominated the central processing unit (CPU) market and held lucrative partnerships with tech titans like Apple. However, a series of missteps and market changes have seen Intel's stock tumble 46% in the last three years.

In recent years, the company has posted multiple quarters of revenue declines alongside dwindling market share in the chip sector. Intel has finally returned to revenue growth, posting gains in its fourth quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. Yet, investors remain wary of its stock. Rising competitors like Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices threaten Intel's future in budding markets like AI.

However, the company seeks to separate itself from these chipmakers by adopting an internal foundry model similar to how Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company operates. There are also numerous great companies with decades of dividend increases and mediocre yields. Finding a company with a high yield and a track record of increasing its payout -- now that's an opportunity worth exploring.

When a reliable dividend stock also has a high yield, it's typically because payouts have grown faster than the stock price. AI hardware is Nvidia's breadwinning business now, and it's currently Microsoft's top growth driver. Software companies like C3.ai help companies do something constructive with all the digital data they regularly gather.

So where does BigBear.ai Holdings (NYSE: BBAI) fit into the picture?

Like C3.ai, BigBear.ai's platforms allow enterprises and government entities to manage themselves more effectively through the use of artificial intelligence. The real estate investment trust (REIT) owns about 15,500 single-tenant properties on net leases, meaning the tenant covers the maintenance, tax, and insurance costs.

Moreover, the S&P 500 stock bills itself as the "monthly dividend company" since shareholders receive 12 payouts per year.

Despite that benefit, the stock is down 35% from its 2020 high. Its restaurant level operating margins, which measure how profitable its restaurants are before corporate costs, were 27.5%, up 190 basis points from a year ago. And to be sure, it was a great quarter. But the quarterly financial report overshadowed an update regarding a new restaurant chain the company was cooking up: Chipotle is abandoning the Farmesa concept that it launched last year.

Farmesa isn't the first failed restaurant concept from Chipotle. It follows a growing list of previous attempts. Here's why it (kind of) matters for investors.

In February 2023, Chipotle announced a new restaurant chain called Farmesa, offering customizable bowls, not unlike Sweetgreen. However, Restaurant Business reports that Farmesa is now closed. These investments have put Brookfield Infrastructure in an extremely strong position to grow rapidly, driven partly by its ability to capitalize on the artificial intelligence (AI) megatrend.

Brookfield Infrastructure is coming off a strong first quarter. The company's funds from operations (FFO) surged 11% compared to the prior-year period. The main driver was its transport segment. FFO from that unit rocketed by 57% compared to the year-ago period, fueled by its recent acquisition of container-leasing company Triton, inflation-driven tariff growth, and rising volumes. That helped more than offset the flat to down years of its utilities and midstream segments.

Most Americans Turning 65 Between 2024 and 2030 Aren't Financially Prepared for Retirement. During the period from 2024 to 2030, an estimated 30.4 million Americans will reach the age of 65, an age often associated with retirement. And while, in one regard, that could open up opportunities for younger members of the labor force, it could also be the beginning of a major financial crisis among older folks.

More than half of Americans turning 65 between 2024 and 2030 (52.5%) have assets of $250,000 or less, according to a study commissioned by the ALI Retirement Income Institute. This means that many near-retirees are at risk of depleting their savings in their lifetime or otherwise struggling financially.

Move Over, Mounjaro. Perhaps the most well-known GLP-1 drugs are diabetes medication Ozempic and obesity care treatment Wegovy. Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk is the maker of both.

However, Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) is making a name for itself in the diabetes and chronic weight management markets. The company's flagship diabetes drug, Mounjaro, has been an enormous success since gaining approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in mid-2022.

While investors may not all realize it, Lilly also has another GLP-1 medication called Zepbound. The master limited partnership (MLP) has been a top-notch passive income producer since its formation over a decade ago. The midstream company has increased its payment every year, growing it by over 380%.

The MLP currently offers an 8.3% distribution yield, putting it several times higher than the S&P 500's 1.4% dividend yield. That prodigious payout is on an extremely firm financial foundation. Because of that and the pipeline company's visible growth prospects, it should have plenty of fuel to continue growing its big-time passive income stream. That makes it an ideal option for those seeking steadily rising cash flow and who are comfortable with the potential tax implications of investing in MLPs (such as their sending a Schedule K-1 each year instead of a Form 1099-DIV).

MPLX recently reported its first-quarter results. The midstream giant continues to generate strong, durable cash flow. It produced nearly $1.4 billion in distributable cash flow in the period, an 8% increase from last year's first quarter. It was enough cash to cover the company's lucrative distribution by a comfy 1.6 times. That matches the year-ago coverage ratio even though the company boosted its payout by 10% late last year.

Billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller Has 39% of His Portfolio in These 3 Companies

These picks offer a window into Druckenmiller's insights and mistakes.

Investors have long observed the stock selections of Stanley Druckenmiller. The benefit of going this route is that you can shield some of your earnings from taxes and minimize your near-term IRS burden.

Another option, though, is to keep your retirement savings in a Roth IRA. At the time, Bitcoin was trading for around $35,000, the new spot Bitcoin ETFs had not yet been introduced, and the much-anticipated halving had not yet occurred.

Six months later, it's safe to say that everything is going according to plan. In fact, Bernstein recently doubled down on its $150,000 price forecast for Bitcoin. As they see it, the case for investing in Bitcoin has become more attractive than ever. So, despite the recent dip in price, should you be buying Bitcoin?

According to Bernstein, the primary factor in Bitcoin's favor right now are the new spot Bitcoin ETFs. The AI market is expected to expand at a double-digit compound annual growth rate over the next few years to reach more than $1 trillion by 2030. That means many companies -- and those who invest in them -- may benefit.

On top of this, AI is generating excitement because it offers concrete examples of how it could save companies time and money. For example, it can streamline processes or help a pharmaceutical company develop drugs more quickly. So, it's easy to understand the importance of this technology. And that means you may want to start investing in AI players in 2024, in the early days of this high-growth story.

Nvidia, the world's leading AI chipmaker, might seem like the obvious choice -- but this high-flying stock isn't the only game in town. In fact, two other AI players make fantastic stocks to buy and hold for decades thanks to their investments in AI -- and the potential for this technology to boost their earnings over time. Let's check them out.

Is Archer Aviation Ready for Takeoff?

Reimagining urban air travel sounds like a lofty ambition, but this company deserves to be taken seriously.

Innovations in transportation don't come often, so when Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) states that its mission is "to unlock the skies, freeing everyone to reimagine how they move and spend time," investors want to know if this is a pie in the sky notion or if Archer Aviation is for real.

But it clearly appears to be the latter. In its plight to disrupt urban transportation, Archer Aviation has hit the target in a variety of ways, suggesting that -- while it's not exactly open for business yet -- the company is on the right path.

Founded in 2020, Archer has made great strides over the past few years toward its goal of transporting passengers in electric vertical take off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. In 2021, Archer inked a manufacturing agreement with automaker Stellantis. The two companies are developing a manufacturing facility in Georgia this year, which has an annual production capacity of 650 aircraft and is expected to commence production in 2025.

Great News for Nio Stock Investors

Customer appetite for Nio cars is surging, as evidenced by an explosion in deliveries.

Fool.com contributor Parkev Tatevosian discusses what the latest news could mean for Nio (NYSE: NIO) stock investors.

*Stock prices used were the afternoon prices of May 1, 2024. Just look at Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. Both stocks have skyrocketed thanks largely to their obesity drugs, with Lilly's share price more than quadrupling and Novo's shares more than tripling over the last three years.

Meanwhile, Pfizer's (NYSE: PFE) fortunes have taken a different path. The big pharma stock has plunged with sinking sales of its COVID-19 products. But can Pfizer possibly challenge Lilly and Novo Nordisk in the obesity market?

Pfizer had high hopes for danuglipron, a GLP-1 agonist like Novo Nordisk's Ozempic and Wegovy. However, those hopes suffered a severe blow after the company announced the results from a phase 2 study of a twice-daily oral formulation of the drug. The side effects were so bad that Pfizer opted not to advance the twice-daily danuglipron into late-stage testing.

This ETF Lets You Invest in 1 of 2024's Best-Performing Sectors. After all, many think of REITs as boring income investments.

However, REITs are not only excellent income stocks, but they can have serious upside potential over the long run. Through smart capital allocation, many REITs have done an excellent job of creating shareholder value over time, and have produced market-beating long-term total returns.

This is why I own REITs when I'm still more than 20 years from retirement. My goal is to use these stocks to compound in my portfolio over the next couple of decades, reinvesting all of my dividends along the way, so they can produce excellent income streams after I eventually retire.

Where Will Nvidia Stock Be in 5 Years?

The chipmaker has delivered phenomenal gains over the past five years, and investors can expect the rally to continue in the future.

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) stock has crushed the broader market handsomely over the past five years with eye-popping gains of more than 1,800% -- which is significantly higher than the S&P 500 index's gains of 71% -- and a big reason behind the chip giant's terrific surge is its dominant position in the artificial intelligence (AI) chip market.

However, can Nvidia sustain its AI-driven growth for the next five years and deliver more gains to investors? Let's find out.

Allied Market Research estimates that the global AI chip market was worth just under $15 billion in 2022. However, by 2032, the market research firm expects sales of AI chips to generate annual revenue of nearly $384 billion. Since this decade began, all three major stock indexes have vacillated between bear and bull markets in successive years, with these swings most pronounced in the growth stock-powered Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC).

During the 2022 bear market, the Nasdaq Composite brought up the caboose with a 33% loss. But since closing this chapter, the Nasdaq has gained 51% and, as recently as last month, pushed to a new record-closing high above 16,400. This move confirms that the Nasdaq is firmly in a new, albeit young, bull market.

Social Security Has a Big Financial Problem. Many people fear that the program's financial woes will affect their future finances for the worse.

So let's start with the good news, which is that Social Security is not in danger of going away completely. The program gets the bulk of its funding from payroll tax revenue. So as long as there's an active labor force, Social Security can continue to pay benefits to some degree.

The Halving and Bitcoin Mining: 3 Things to Know Before Investing in This Explosive Industry

Investing in Bitcoin miners can be lucrative, but there's more to know before adding them to your portfolio.

History shows that during bull markets, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) miners almost always outperform the cryptocurrency itself. Yet over the past few months, Bitcoin miners have been hit particularly hard as investors poured into spot Bitcoin ETFs as a means of Bitcoin exposure via the stock market, a role miners previously served. Making matters worse, Bitcoin recently underwent its fourth halving, an event that cut the block reward paid to miners in half, effectively cutting their main source of revenue.

For miners, without a significant price surge, they face a serious challenge to stay afloat and keep their stock prices up. While history has shown that halving usually precedes surges in Bitcoin's price and pulled many mining stocks with it, investing in this industry isn't easy. Before choosing a Bitcoin mining company to your portfolio, make sure you consider these three things.

Got $1,000? A few years ago, the oil company launched the industry's first fixed-plus-variable dividend framework. It aimed to pay a fixed base dividend each quarter and up to 50% of its excess free cash flow in variable dividends. Higher oil prices in 2022 sent its free cash flow and variable dividend payments soaring.

However, the company shifted its capital return framework this year to give it more flexibility. As a result, its dividend payment was much lower in the first quarter as it emphasized repurchasing its shares. That change could pay off for shareholders in the long run.

Devon Energy recently reported its first-quarter results and declared its latest dividend payment. The company is paying $0.35 per share in dividends, consisting of a $0.22 per share base dividend (which it increased by 10% earlier this year) and a $0.13 per share variable dividend. That combined payout was near Devon's lowest level since it launched the new framework in 2021.

Meet the Newest Artificial Intelligence (AI) Stock in the S&P 500. The index includes 500 large-cap companies, currently defined as companies worth at least $18 billion, and it covers about 80% of domestic equities by market capitalization. To be considered for inclusion, a company must also be profitable, and its stock must be sufficiently liquid.

Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ: SMCI) became the newest artificial intelligence (AI) company in the S&P 500 when it joined the index in March 2024, little more than a year after it joined the S&P MidCap 400 in December 2022. Meanwhile, shares soared over 1,700% over the last two years as strong demand for AI computing products fueled rapid sales growth.

The stock still carries a consensus rating of "buy" among Wall Street analysts, and the median price target of $965 per share implies 26% upside from its current price of $762 per share.
