21.
On Saturday afternoon, On3 National recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett reported that Michigan was in the top-four for 2025 four-star offensive lineman Michael Carroll, along with Penn State, Georgia and Alabama.

 30.
Carroll made an impromptu visit to Michigan this past fall the day after the Michigan State win, and he got the chance to meet Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome in a recent spring visit. If he were to commit to Michigan, he’d be the second offensive line commit in the class, joining four-star Avery Gach.

 31.
“They were completely dominant,” Carroll said about Michigan after that MSU game. “They were extremely explosive and powerful out of their stances. When I was at Michigan’s camp, that’s one thing coach Moore taught me. Seeing them do it was special. I could see myself fitting in there as a guard.”

 32.
Carroll’s high interest in Michigan is not a surprise, considering the Wolverines have garnered a reputation as being a place for offensive linemen to develop into NFL players, all while dominating in the trenches en route to a ton of success over the last three seasons.

 33.
Carroll said in an interview with The Wolverine last month ($) that Michigan is “up there with Alabama, Georgia and a couple of others right now.” There’s not a clear timeline for when he’ll make a decision, but we’ll keep you updated as his recruitment continues.

This time, it was former UNLV cornerback Ricky Johnson committing to the Michigan Wolverines, his agents told 247Sports.

 57.

 58.
 59.
 60.

 61.
Interestingly enough, Johnson previously announced a commitment to Washington State. Obviously with this development, he will not wind up in Pullman and is instead heading to Ann Arbor.

 62.
Johnson has been with the Rebels since 2020. He played four games as a true freshman, dipping his toes into the college football world. He followed that up with a pretty successful 2021 sophomore campaign where he racked up 25 tackles, three interceptions, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery.

 63.
The last two seasons combined, Johnson tallied 46 tackles, one interception and eight pass breakups. Those stats don’t seem gaudy by any means, but it’s important to note that he missed most of the 2022 season with an injury.

 64.
Michigan now has four members of the secondary in its transfer class, as Johnson joins former Albany cornerback Aamir Hall, former Tennessee safety Wesley Walker and former Michigan State safety Jaden Mangham.

 65.
This is an interesting commitment, and not just because of Johnson’s previous commitment to WSU. The Wolverines are now, suddenly, pretty stocked up at the cornerback position heading into the summer. They have All-American Will Johnson to pair up with the transfers, as well as Jyaire Hill, Ja’Den McBurrows and Myles Pollard. Zeke Berry may also be a candidate to play at the nickel corner spot, along with McBurrows and Kody Jones.

 66.
Johnson has two years of college eligibility remaining.

 67.
Keep up to date with all the transfer portal happenings here.

 85.

 86.
 87.
This spring brought little clarity regarding the most important position.

It was probably always wishful thinking that the Michigan Wolverines would snag a bona fide starting quarterback out of the transfer portal this spring. Those sort of players do not arise often at this stage of the year, and truthfully it seems like the coaching staff likes what it has in its crowded-yet-unproven quarterback room heading into the 2024 season.

 88.
As such, some combination of Alex Orji, Jack Tuttle, Davis Warren, Jayden Denegal, and Jadyn Davis will be under center this season in Ann Arbor. No matter what that looks like this fall, it will absolutely be a step back from top-10 pick J.J. McCarthy, but there is a way that the quarterback performance is still serviceable enough to keep the offense productive.

 89.
How do you think Michigan’s quarterback battle will play out?

 90.
The leading option right now has to be Orji, especially after seeing everything play out in the spring game. While his arm is far from perfect, it does not seem substantially different than any of his peers, and his legs obviously offer an element that no other quarterback contender boasts. While Warren looked pretty good in the scrimmage, Orji is just a much more dynamic player, and I expect him to start all season.

 91.
The unknown is Tuttle, who is still dealing with some injuries. Theoretically, he and Orji could battle it out this summer — and maybe even carry that battle into the season — but it feels like the coaching staff would like to have a defined starter. Shoutout to young Jadyn Davis, who should have a bright future; Michigan is not going to throw a true freshman out there, though I would not be completely against it if things go south…

 92.
What do you think? How will Sherrone Moore end up replacing J.J. McCarthy? Let us know in the comments below!

 113.
A big flip for the Wolverines.

Michigan has been on fire landing transfer portal targets this week. On Thursday Michigan landed Albany cornerback Aamir Hill, on Friday morning Tennessee safety Wesley Walker committed to Michigan. And on Friday afternoon they added a third defensive player via the transfer portal.

 122.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Mangham recorded 53 tackles and four interceptions last season for the Spartans and now he’ll be joining a team in Michigan that demolished his former team 49-0 last season. 2024 will be Mangham’s junior campaign.

 123.
With the additions of Mangham and Walker at safety, Michigan’s depth chart now looks a lot better than it would have otherwise. Rod Moore tore his ACL last month and Keon Sabb transferred to Alabama in February, Other safeties currently on Michigan’s roster include Makari Paige, Quinten Johnson, Zeke Berry, Brandyn Hillman, and Jacob Oden,

 143.
Team 144 was special, but if you’re looking for players to get excited about on Team 145, we’ve got you covered.

Michigan fans watched some of their favorites from Team 144 get drafted into the NFL just a few weeks ago. Right guard Zak Zinter is now in Ohio playing for the Cleveland Browns, and fans are now wondering who will make an impact on the offensive line this season like he has the last couple years.

 144.
Zinter decided to come back for his senior year, even though he could have declared after 2022. He helped put Michigan in a great position to win a National Championship before breaking his leg during the Ohio State game.

 145.
There’s a reason Michigan fans started chanting, “Let’s go Zak!” during that game. Zinter wasn’t just a phenomenal talent for Michigan — he had a great personality and character that was easy to show support for.

 153.
This season, Michigan welcomes Josh Priebe after he transferred from Northwestern. Priebe is a graduate student originally from Niles, Michigan. He played 764 snaps last season, according to PFF, and graded out well. Nothing earth shattering, but his performance was enough to earn All-Big Ten Third Team honors.

 154.
The thing that stands out in Priebe’s game is the fact he is always looking for ways he can help the play. He had a higher grade during his junior season, and ended the season with a 72.1 according to PFF when it came to pass blocking.

 155.

 156.
You probably remember Northwestern made national headlines when the university announced it had parted ways with Pat Fitzgerald last July after a hazing investigation. Priebe didn’t just stay on the team after all that — he led the Wildcats as a captain.

 157.
Northwestern exceeded expectation last season, finishing 7-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play. Priebe’s decision to stay in the midst of a tough situation shows his potential to step up as a new leader for Michigan this fall.

 158.
There isn’t another player like Zinter — it’d be tough for anyone to be as reliable as he was for the Wolverines — but Priebe is certainly worth getting excited about in 2024.

 186.
Walker is the second member of the secondary to commit to Michigan in the last two days, joining former Albany cornerback Aamir Hall.

 187.
A college football journeyman, Walker has five seasons of experience across (technically) three programs. He started his career in 2019 at Georgia Tech, transferred to Tennessee in 2022, and then briefly transferred to Louisville this offseason before hopping back in the portal to eventually wind up at Michigan.

 188.
The past two seasons have been pretty successful for Walker in the SEC. In 2022, he racked up 36 tackles, one sack, one interception and four pass breakups. He followed that up this past season with 53 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and two pass breakups. Additionally, per PFF, he allowed zero touchdowns on 349 coverage snaps in 2023.

 189.

 190.

 191.
Former Tennessee Safety Wesley Walker has committed to Michigan, he announced

〽️ ZERO TDs Allowed last season (349 coverage snaps) pic.twitter.com/1EEB4lahd6
— PFF College (@PFF_College) May 17, 2024

 194.
 195.

 196.
After the Rod Moore injury this spring, Michigan was in need of another body in the safety room to help compete. The Wolverines still have Makari Paige and Quinten Johnson at the position, but the guys behind them — Brandyn Hillman, Zeke Berry, etc. — don’t have a ton of experience.

 197.
Luckily, Walker has plenty of experience, so he should be a valuable asset to the Michigan defense this fall and help guide along the other players on the roster.

 198.
The upcoming season will be Walker’s final year of college eligibility.

 217.
 218.
Hausmann will step into a veteran role for the Wolverines as the team aims to reload in 2024.

As the Michigan Wolverines gear up for the 2024 football season, linebacker Ernest Hausmann is at the forefront of preparations, embracing new challenges and refining the team’s championship-winning formula.

 219.
Hausmann’s insights, shared on the recent episode of “In the Trenches,” provide a compelling look into his mindset and the team’s evolving strategies. The third-year linebacker also emphasized the shift in mentality now that Michigan is defending a national championship.

 220.
“Going into this year is a little different mentally,” Hausmann said. “Because now when you are at the top, now you’re looking down. Everyone is trying to get you.

 221.
“And so you look back on it with the blueprint that was made in terms of how to win a national championship. That was a blueprint for when you were trying to chase it. Now we won it, we know how to reach it. We know it’s gonna be that much harder to do it again. Now it’s about using that blueprint, knowing what worked and also looking at going back on it and being like, ‘What can we do even better?’ Because the margin of error last year, it’s that much smaller this year.”

 222.
The Wolverines are undergoing significant changes on the defensive side with Wink Martindale’s new scheme. Hausmann provided insights into the challenges and opportunities that come with this transition.

 223.
“The biggest difference with a new defense is the communication side of things,” Hausmann explained. “When you have a new system, new defensive coordinator, a lot of terminology they had that they used in the past obviously comes with them. The biggest is how do you understand the terminology. What does it mean? When do you use it? When do you say it? When do you not?

 224.
“And then obviously the style,” he continued. “What calls do they want to do in different situations, or what do they want to do with personnel and different things like that? And so that’s the main thing. Playing through spring ball and just being here, it’s a whole new defense, it’s all different. So it’s gonna be fun. Really excited about it.”

 225.
Hausmann also took time to praise Martindale’s approach to integrating the new scheme, noting his willingness to incorporate player feedback.

 226.
“What I respect about coach Wink is he allows players to have feedback and responses so that he can best gauge,” the former Nebraska transfer said. “Because he’s seen it all at the end of the day.”

 227.
Much has also been made of the potential impact of Maryland transfer linebacker Jaishawn Barham joining the Wolverines this offseason. Reflecting on his role as a mentor to the new transfer linebacker, Hausmann underscored the importance of his own experiences in adapting to new systems.

 228.
“I know I provide a valuable resource for him being in that position and how to best learn this defense.” Hausmann said. “With a new defensive coordinator, things have changed completely. It’s a whole different scheme, a whole new defense. But also I’ve been in that position to how you adapt to a whole new system, new scheme. And so for myself I had to use that coming from the portal, that mindset. Now I have to do it again. I can provide help when he needs that, too.”

 229.
As it pertains to Barham, Hausmann aims to offer the same level of help that he received during the 2023 season. Speaking on the impact of recently departed linebackers Michael Barrett and Junior Colson, Hausmann heavily credited the two veteran LBs on his own personal development.

 230.
“They were pros from day one,” Hausmann said. “What they did each and every day was so routine, so regimented, that they knew what they had to do in order for them to be the most successful players and teammates for this team.”

 250.
Michigan adds depth to the cornerback room.

Last year Michigan added UMass cornerback Josh Wallace via the transfer portal and Wallace would go on to be an integral part of Michigan’s secondary in 2023.

 251.
With both Wallace and Mike Sainristil now in the NFL and DJ Waller transferring, Michigan has added needed depth at the position in Albany transfer corner Aamir Hall.

 259.
Hall was an FCS All-American in 2023, tallying 57 tackles (37 solo) with five interceptions. Per PFF, Hall received an 85.7 overall PFF grade last season, a 73.0 passer rating allowed, and an 88.3 Coverage grade. Before playing for Albany Hall spent three years at Richmond where he totaled 106 tackles (61 solo), two interceptions, and 18 pass breakups.

 260.
Hall joins a cornerback room that includes Will Johnson, Ja’Den McBurrows, Myles Pollard, Jyaire Hill, and Keshaun Harris. It remains to be seen where Hall will rank on the depth chart. However, it’s fair to say that his experience along with sound tackling, savvy pass breakups, consistent interceptions, and solid coverage skills will have him carving out what could be a vital role on Michigan’s defense.
