20.
Tournament: PGA Championship, May 16-19, 2024

 21.
Course: Valhalla Golf Club, 7,609 yards, par 71. On the outskirts of Louisville, KY.

 22.
Purse: $17.5 million total, $3.15 million to the winner. And actually slightly less than the payout at last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, a Signature Event on the Tour. But this major is hosted by the PGA of America, not the PGA Tour so the numbers won’t necessarily align.

 23.
Defending Champ: Brooks Koepka. The LIV golfer who eschews his LIV team logo when he plays a major (and probably pays a fine for doing so), came in hot and left even hotter. The proverbial chip on his shoulder was hearing the conventional wisdom his golf game was gone and not getting better only tested against the player-friendly formats and small fields he plays against on the LIV Tour. After an opening 74, he roared back with consistently great golf finishing 68-68-69. He won by 2, holding off playing partner Viktor Hovland and putting distance against some of the hottest golfer on the planet such as Scottie Scheffler, Hovland, and Rory McIlroy.

 24.
Fun Fact: This isn’t a “fun” fact so much as a point of interest or something to ponder. The divorce of Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll became public Monday afternoon. If you’re thinking of shading Rory because he might be distracted, consider this: 10 years ago, McIlroy broke off the engagement to tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki very suddenly. He went on to win the British Open, won the WGC Firestone 2 weeks later, and won the PGA Championship at Valhalla the week after that. And you know what? He’s won the last two tournaments he’s played. Hhhmmmm.

 25.
TV Times: Thursday 12:00-8:00 pm ET (ESPN), Friday 12:00-7:00 pm ET (ESPN), Saturday-Sunday 10:00 am - 1:00 pm ET (ESPN), and 1:00-7:00 pm ET (CBS). In addition, coverage before ESPN will be available on ESPN+.

 26.
‘Dawgs in the Field: 7. Russell Henley, Sepp Straka, Brian Harman, Harris English, Brendon Todd, Chris Kirk, Keith Mitchell.

 27.
So who is the favorite? Brooks Koepka is not only the defending champ, but he just won his last start on the LIV Tour so he’s in good form. World #1 Scottie Scheffler is a brand-new father, and this will be his first start since qualifying for a child tax credit, then realizing he phased out of the credit based on his gazillion dollars in prize money - having won 4 of his last 5 starts. Rory McIlroy has won his last 2 tourneys, the team event in NOLA and just last week the Wells Fargo in Charlotte - and in impressive come-from-behind fashion.

 28.
And did we mention that McIlroy’s last major win was the PGA Championship at this very course? It’s been 10 years since that late Sunday when Rory pushed the issue and pushed Phil Mickelson to the side to grab his 4th major at the young age of 25. So I think the Irishman might have some good feelings, coming off very recent success and with great memories of this particular track.

 29.
And a washed-up, broken-down, career twilight hack with the moniker of Eldrick. Sure enough, Tiger Woods is playing the PGA Championship, utilizing his “life-time” exemption from winning 4 times previously. John Daly is using the same qualification criteria.

 30.
If you took all those storylines out, the big one might be that Jordan Spieth is once again looking to complete the career grand slam. Like Rory at the Masters and Phil at the US Open, Spieth needs a single victory at this major to join the select group to have won all four majors in their career.

 31.
While the former Bulldogs have had solid showings this season (including Kirk winning in Hawaii), the results have not risen along with the temperatures. Straka and Kirk had the best finishes at the Masters (T16), Harman did have his tie for 2nd at the Players, but that was 3 months ago. Henley might be showing the best form of late - he had a 4th place in Texas last month, a tie for 12th in Hilton Head, and a tie for 10th last week in Charlotte (also a big layout).

 32.
The PGA Championship is a full-field major, but it does include 20 PGA teaching/club professionals - a different designation than a PGA Tour playing professional. These guys are all scratch players, but they are not playing full-time and honestly outgunned against the depth of the world’s best Tour players.

 33.
Unless your name is Michael Block. The club pro from Mission Viejo made quite the splash at last year’s PGA Championship held at historic Oak Hill. He was the only club pro to make the weekend cut, so he garnered a lot of fans as the ultimate underdog against the world’s elite. Then he happened to ace a par 3 late in the day Sunday while playing with McIlroy, which made him everyone’s favorite. Sneaky news, he made a clutch up and down on the 72nd hole to secure a tie for 15th. Which means he’s qualified for this year’s championship too.

 34.
Valhalla is not only home to all the kings of lore, it is a big ballpark. Zoysia fairways, bluegrass rough, and bent greens wind through the rolling hills of northern Kentucky. There are some monster par 3s and par 4s thanks to recent lengthening, but the most exciting holes are probably the short par 4 13th and the reachable par 5 18th.

 35.
Rain Wednesday softened up the course and probably mean the winning score will be a couple of strokes lower than if it was fast and firm. It should be exciting no matter what, and hopefully one of these 7 former Bulldogs in the field will make some noise in Bourbon country. Enjoy, and as always...

 36.

 37.
GO ‘DAWGS!!!

 57.
Ok, I’ll admit it.

 58.
Finding out that the AFLAC Kickoff Game will commence at anti-primetime is a bit of a letdown.

 59.
Unless you are setting up shop in a downtown Atlanta hotel, this one will have the feel of many a Georgia Tech game at Noon over at Historic Mark Richt Field on The Flats.

 60.
No, it won’t be a full day of tailgating like an SEC Championship or even a kickoff affair like a few years back against Oregon, but it could be worse - you won’t be sitting inside the stadium sweltering to death, as Dawg fans have done through the years against the school that, as the late Lewis Grizzard noted, is “Auburn with a lake.”

 61.
If you want to talk obscene heat in August, those at the 2003 Clemson game don’t have to be reminded, for sure.

 62.
If this game were in Athens at noon, it’d be a cruel joke. The hook for TV execs, I suppose is to tee up a full day of college football with a rather tasty attraction.

 63.
Sure, there’s excitement for this game of two rivals, perhaps bigger foes on the recruiting trail, teeing it up.

 64.

 71.
But it’s also a rekindling of a rivalry that should be played each year, and many of those games were early afternoon, just as the late great Dan Magill would have intended.

 92.
Charlie Condon becomes the new NCAA single season BBCOR home run king as Georgia sweeps South Carolina

The Georgia Bulldogs completed another impressive series this past week against the South Carolina Gamecocks as the Dawgs earned their second straight series sweep. The Diamond Dawgs started the series with a bang on Thursday, as Charlie Condon gave Georgia a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as he brought in Corey Collins on an RBI double. A few batters later, Georgia would strike again as Tre Phelps launched a three-run homer into the Left Field seats to extend the Dawgs’ lead to 4-0.

 99.

 100.
The Dawgs would keep their offense going in the following inning as Corey Collins would hit a two-run homer, bringing in Fernando Gonzalez to put Georgia’s lead at 6-3. Georgia’s big inning would not end there though as Charlie Condon would step up to the plate the following at-bat and crush his record breaking 34th home run on the season. Condon’s 34th homer extended his home run streak to eight straight games along with making him the NCAA single season home run king in the BBCOR era.

 106.
 107.

 108.
The Dawgs would add on some more insurance runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th inning as Fernando Gonzalez and Tre Phelps would both homer to pull away from the Gamecocks and give Georgia the 14-10 game one win.

 109.

 114.
 115.

 116.
The Dawgs would pick right back up from where they left off in game one as Georgia was absolutely dominant in game two. Slate Alford would get the bats fired up in the third inning as he blasted his 14th homer on the season for a three-run homer into Center Field to give the Dawgs a 3-1 lead.

 117.

 122.
 123.

 124.
The Dawgs would continue to crush the ball in the third and fourth inning as Tre Phelps roped his third homer of the series to give Georgia a 10-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth as it was pure domination from the Dawgs.

 125.

 130.
 131.

 132.
The Dawgs pitching staff would be excellent as well in this one as Leighton Finley and Brian Zeldin combined for thirteen total strikeouts while also giving up just eight hits as South Carolina would be no match once again as Georgia sealed the 11-5 game two win.

 133.

 134.

 138.
 139.

 140.
The Dawgs would go for the series sweep and their eighth straight win on Saturday as Georgia once again showed zero signs of slowing down. Tre Phelps would get things started in the top of the first as the Freshman continued his dominant series by hitting a thunderous shot into Left Field as it was his fourth home run of the series to put the Dawgs up 1-0.

 141.

 142.

 146.
 147.

 148.
South Carolina would get their offense going in the bottom of the third as they put together a four run inning to give themselves their first lead of the series by a score of 4-1. A few innings later, the Dawgs would start battling back as Slate Alford would hit a 2-run homer to cut the Gamecocks’ lead down to 4-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

 156.
Georgia would manage to tie things up the very next inning in the seventh as Corey Collins would hit an RBI single into Right Field, scoring Clayton Chadwick and tying things up at 4-4.

 164.
The tied ball-game would not last too long though as the Gamecocks would jump back up in the seventh as Ethan Petry would hit a 2-RBI double to put South Carolina back up 6-4 going into the eighth. South Carolina looked as if they were going to finally get a win in the series and bring Georgia’s win streak to an end but the Gamecocks would quickly learn the Dawgs weren’t down without a fight. Georgia would proceed to explode for six runs in the eighth inning as Fernando Gonzalez and Kolby Branch notched RBIs in the inning with Logan Jordan capping things off with a massive grand slam to give the Dawgs a 10-6 lead.

 197.
Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

 198.

 199.
 200.
I do not envy college coaches trying to navigate the new and scary world of NIL and the open transfer portal.

 201.
There remain a great number of unknowns regarding the long-term effects of both, as well as the best way to build and maintain a program in the face of each development. I suspect the answer will be different for different schools. It should be axiomatic that what works at the University of Georgia probably won’t work at the University of Maine.

 202.
But this much I do know. The policy recently outlined by Boise State football coach Spencer Danielson absolutely is not going to end well. Danielson has announced that his school will not pursue NIL opportunities for first year players.

 203.
To be clear, Danielson is not saying that players cannot accept NIL deals or pursue NIL money on their own behalf. Doing so would almost certainly run afoul of equal protection dictates, and land the school in a losing court battle. What he is saying is that the school will outsource finding and negotiating those deals to players and their own camps. For more you can see this wide-ranging interview Danielson did clarifying his initial remarks:

 204.

 205.

 206.
Prater & The Ballgame: May 8, 2024 - Boise State football coach Spencer Danielson https://t.co/jgDa4LfgD3
— KTIK 95.3 FM The Ticket (@KTIK_953FM) May 8, 2024
 207.

 208.
 209.
 210.

 211.
What Danielson describes is not the prevailing method being pursued around major college football. And Boise State is, on paper and certainly in the minds of the school’s fans, a major college football program. And in the modern world of college football, players are being recruited not just on the chance to win football games and eat great food and chase girls. They are being recruited on schools’ ability to brand them and provide access to markets. The currency of the college football realm is currency.

 212.
That particular Genie is out of the bottle. What Spencer Danielson plans to do is stand there yelling at the Genie for the benefit of alumni. This sort of red meat messaging works great on the summer rubber chicken dinner circuit. The same folks who are with him on this proposal now will not be as forgiving if the Broncos win five games in 2025.

 213.
I understand where Danielson is coming from. No group of humans is more concerned with “paying dues” and “earning your keep” than college football coaches. I suspect this results from the fact that you become a college football head coach you must put in decades of 18 hour days, crawling over and around the exhausted bodies of fellow graduate assistants and position coaches. It’s a career path where survival of the fittest doesn’t guarantee success. It’s more the price of admission.

 214.
And every successive generation believes that kids these days have it easier than they did, and want things handed to them on a silver platter. My father believes I have it easier than him. His father probably said the same thing. Everyone believes that they had to work for what they got, and the kids these days don’t understand sacrifice and commitment. It’s a tradition that predates even the Rose Bowl and Tennessee football’s descent into tepid mediocrity.

 215.
And there’s a certain outsider streak to Boise State fandom that makes this kind of appeal to a blue collar work ethic resonate with a fanbase that for a long time watched its teams try to earn a spot at the BCS and CFB Playoff table. I expect that if Kirby Smart or Steve Sarkisian basically told a room full of boosters that their freshmen were just going to have to sort of figure out the whole NIL deal on their own the reaction would be swift and negative. In the SEC we don’t give up the chance to micromanage and hyperoptimize any aspect of the football program that we legally can, and even some that are more of a gray area.

 216.
Spencer Danielson thinks he’s telling players to only come to Boise State if they are willing to pay their dues. What he’s really telling them is that other coaches at other schools are more willing than he is to take the time to build their individual brands. Not every kid who thinks about that is a spoiled brat who would become a locker room issue.

 217.
Many recruits are just sophisticated young men who understand that they provide a valuable service and that, when you have value to offer, you should not give it away for free. Danielson might as well be telling incoming players and their parents that Boise State has an academic support center, but he’s not going to show them where it is, and he’s not going to make any special effort to assure that they have access to it. The brand building and business side of College football is now as important as the academic. Refusing to recognize that fact doesn’t change it.

 218.
I expect Danielson thinks that the stance will bring players who only really want to come to Boise. Who truly buy into what he and his staff are selling. I suspect what it is actually going to get our players who view the school as a stepping stone to a real payday. The hard truth of today’s college football is the players transfer. They do so for a variety of reasons. Narrowing the pool of players you can recruit in year one is unlikely to prevent that. It just means the pool your drawing from a year to is going to be that much more shallow.

 219.
Again, I get where he is coming from. I am also over the age of 40. I also wonder sometimes why police and doctors all seem so young now, and why bananas cost so much these days. But pretending that you are not living in a new reality does not prevent that new reality from living on around you. Until later…

 220.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!

 241.
Dominant offense and solid pitching propels Georgia to the series sweep

The Georgia Bulldogs concluded another impressive week on the diamond yesterday evening as the Dawgs clinched their fifth straight win and the series sweep over the twelfth ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. Georgia began their week of play on Tuesday as they faced off against the Kennesaw State Owls. The Dawgs’ lineup exploded against the Owls as Charlie Condon, Slate Alford, Fernando Gonzalez, and Kolby Branch all had home runs in the game as Georgia cruised to a 9-3 win to conclude an undefeated season against in-state teams.

 247.
 248.

 249.
Following the win, Georgia traveled back to Athens to prepare for the massive series against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Dawgs would absolutely dominate in game one as Georgia sailed to a 10-0 seventh inning run rule victory as the Dawgs were dialed in at the plate and on the mound. Charlie Condon, Slate Alford, and Paul Toetz would all hit long balls as it would be the only offense Georgia would need as the Dawgs received a tremendous start from Leighton Finley. Finley turned in six total innings on the mound as he racked up eleven strikeouts while only giving up three hits in the win.

 250.

 251.

 252.
"My goodness" is right!@LeightonFinley ties the season high for Georgia pitchers with 11 strikeouts and sets a personal career high with 5.2 innings pitched.#GoDawgs pic.twitter.com/3M6WHH4TkR
— Georgia Baseball (@BaseballUGA) May 4, 2024

 255.
 256.

 257.
Georgia would continue their dominance in game two on Saturday as the Dawgs would once again blow out the Commodores by ten runs. The Dawgs’ offense would be nothing short of spectacular as Tre Phelps, Corey Collins, Charlie Condon, and Kolby Branch all tallied homers as Georgia smashed their way to a 14-4 win.

 258.

 259.

 262.
 263.
 264.

 265.
Riding high off of dominant wins in game one and two, the Dawgs would look to seal the series sweep on Sunday. Georgia would get off to a dominant start once again in game three as the Dawgs held a 6-0 lead in the third inning. The Commodores would put up a little fight in the fifth and sixth inning though as they would put together three runs to bring the score closer to 6-3. Georgia would quickly put a halt to the Commodores coming back though as Charlie Condon would hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to extend the Dawgs lead to 9-3. Condon’s homer would be his 33rd on the season as it would extend his home run streak to seven games as he continues his historic season.

 266.

 267.

 270.
 271.
 272.

 273.
Dylan Goldstein would also homer in the sixth inning as Georgia held a 10-3 lead going into the seventh. Neither team would score in the seventh but Vanderbilt would once again try to come back in the eighth. The Commodores put together four runs in the eighth to slim Georgia’s lead at 10-7 as the Dawgs’ bullpen would try to hold on for one more inning. Fortunately, the Dawgs would add on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as the bullpen would hold on in the top of the ninth to clinch the series sweep by a final score of 11-7.

 279.
 280.

 281.
The Diamond Dawgs now sit at 35-12 on the season along with a 13-11 record in SEC play as they will more than likely jump up a few spots in the national rankings. Georgia will now have a few days of rest as they prepare to finish strong in the last six games of the season. The first three of those six games will take place in Columbia, South Carolina as Georgia will take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in a three game series that begins on Thursday as the Dawgs will look to keep their winning streak going.

 293.
A Bargain At Twice The Price: Kirby Smart Gets Paid (Even More)

 301.
UGA AD Josh Brooks has also gotten a pay bump to bring him closer to par with his coevals.

It’s good to be Kirby Smart.

 302.
Profitable, too.

 303.
The top ‘Dawg wasn’t exactly clipping coupons before. But today the Board of Governors of the UGA Athletic Association approved a two year contract extension that takes his current deal through December 2033 with an annual salary of $13 million per year. The deal also includes bonuses of up to $1.55 million.

 304.
The new deal is a $1.75 million per year bump over Smart’s prior contract, and pushes him past Clemson’s Dabo Swinney to become college football’s highest-paid coach.

 305.
In my book he’s still a bargain. After his first season the Red and Black have either won a national title, played for a national title, or played in the SEC championship game every single season. The Bulldogs became the only team to win back-to-back national championships in the playoff era. It’s the most sustained success the program has ever had. And it’s coincided with seismic shifts in the sport’s landscape, tremors which have caused other coaches to leave the sport but which Smart has navigated adeptly.

 306.
Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks also received a contract extension with a new annual salary of $1.275 million, and scheduled annual increases of $100,000. The deal is recognition of Brooks’ status as an up-and-comer among athletic administrators nationally.

 307.
While I don’t know that Brooks is a threat to go anywhere soon, Georgia really needed to bump his pay to keep up with the Joneses. Brooks’ $855,000 deal had been the lowest among the league’s athletic directors. For comparison, Florida’s Scott Stricklin earns $1.795 million a year, Kentucky’s Mitch Barnhart makes $1.2 million, LSU’s Scott Woodward has a $1.85 million salary. Tennessee’s Danny White earns a jaw-dropping $2.31 million annually (I don’t know the exchange rate for Hillbilly dollars versus U.S. dollars but that still seems like a lot.

 327.
Condon claims school home run record as Georgia drops series against the Aggies

The Georgia Baseball team kicked off a tough week of play this past Tuesday against the fourth ranked Clemson Tigers at Foley Field as it was the biggest non-conference match-up the Dawgs have had all season. Georgia would strike first in this one as Paul Toetz would hit an RBI single into Center Field as it brought in Kolby Branch to give the Dawgs an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers would respond with runs of their own in the third and fourth inning as Clemson held a 3-1 lead all the way up until the seventh inning. Georgia would draw closer in the seventh inning as Dylan Goldstein would score on a Corey Collins single to put things at 3-2. Corey Collins would come through for the Dawgs once again in the bottom of the ninth as he hit a huge game tying single as he would bring in Trey King to put things at 3-3 going into extra innings. A few innings would go by before either team would earn the winning run as both teams were running out of arms as twenty total pitchers took the mound between the two teams. At last, Georgia would earn the winning run by the way of a passed ball in the fifteenth inning to capture the 4-3 win.

 335.
Following the win, the Diamond Dawgs packed up and made their way to College Station to take on the number one ranked Texas A&M Aggies for a three game series. The Diamond Dawgs would earn the first run in game one as Charlie Condon launched a solo home run into Left Field as he drew closer to the UGA career home run record.

 342.

 343.
Texas A&M would quickly respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the second to notch things up at 1-1. The Aggies would add on another run in the fourth as they held a 2-1 lead heading into the fifth inning. Georgia’s lineup wouldn’t allow the Aggies to hold onto the lead for long though as Dylan Goldstein roped a solo shot into Right Field to put the score at 2-2.

 344.

 349.
 350.

 351.
Georgia would be unable to put together anymore offense following the fifth inning though as the Dawgs’ bullpen would be unable to keep things at bey as the Aggies would continue to put up runs and would eventually earn the 5-2 win over Georgia.

 352.
Game two would be a part of a double-header Saturday as it was a very disappointing game for the Dawgs. Georgia originally got off to a tremendous start as they exploded in the first inning with nine runs as Charlie Condon capped off the inning with his record tying 53rd career home run to give the Dawgs a 9-0 lead.

 353.

 354.

 358.
 359.

 360.
Those nine runs should have been enough to earn the win for the Dawgs as it would be the only runs Georgia would score that day. Unfortunately, Georgia’s pitching staff struggled tremendously in game two as the Dawgs’ pitchers gave up a total of nineteen runs as Texas A&M earned the seventh inning run rule win by a final score of 19-9.

 361.
Georgia would have to immediately move on from the beat-down loss as they desperately needed to win game three to avoid the series sweep. The Aggies started quickly in game three as they earned runs in the first and third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Texas A&M would hold that 2-0 lead until the seventh inning until Kolby Branch crushed a solo homer for the Dawgs to put the score at 2-1.

 362.

 363.

 364.
Welcome home, KB!#GoDawgs | @KolbyBranch pic.twitter.com/vT9Op1VxQE
— Georgia Baseball (@BaseballUGA) April 28, 2024

 367.
 368.

 369.
The Dawgs would continue to launch the long ball in the seventh inning as Tre Phelps hit a two run shot into Left Field to give Georgia a 3-2 lead. The homers would not stop there though as Charlie Condon capped things off with the third home run in the inning for the Dawgs as it was a historic one. Condon passed Gordon Beckham on UGA’s all time home run list with the 54th home run of his career and his 29th of the season to give Georgia the 5-2 lead.

 370.

 371.

 376.

 377.
The five runs attributed by Georgia’s offense would be all the Dawgs would need as they avoided the three game sweep by a final score of 5-4.

 378.
The Diamond Dawgs now sit at a still impressive 31-12 record on the season along with a 10-11 record in SEC play. Georgia will now get a couple of days of rest before heading over to play the in state Kennesaw State Owls on Tuesday. Following the game against the Owls, Georgia will travel back to Athens and get ready to host the eleventh ranked Vanderbilt Commodores for what is sure to be a huge three game series as game one is set to begin on Friday night.

 397.

 398.
 399.
In the words of that sage draft observer Carl Spackler, “It’s a Cinderella story.”

 400.
In 2020 Ladd McConkey chose the Georgia Bulldogs in 2020 over a competing offer from UT-Chattanooga. Tonight the Murray County Menace was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the 34th overall pick, early in the second round of the NFL Draft.

 401.
McConkey is the first offensive player taken in the newly minted Jim Harbaugh era. In fact the Chargers traded up one spot with the New England Patriots to land Madd Ladd, who also had pre-draft interest from the Patriots. That makes it seem like Harbaugh just couldn’t stand the thought of watching his guy go off the board one spot ahead of the Bolts’ pick.

 402.
It’s easy to see why Harbaugh would want McConkey in the fold. Over the course of three seasons in the red and black McConkey caught 119 passes for 1,687 yards (14.2 ypc) with 14 touchdowns. He also rushed 13 times for 216 yards (14.4 per rush) and found the endzone 4 times as a ball carrier, including this career capper against Florida State:

 403.

 404.

 405.
Ladd McConkey weaves his way into the endzone for a Bulldog TD

Georgia up BIG over FSU in the first half

(via @espn) pic.twitter.com/ex4DHUcuX2
— Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports) December 30, 2023
 406.

 407.
 408.
 409.

 410.
McConkey’s acceleration and route-running stood out throughout his career in Athens, but really caught the eye of scouts at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, where he ran an impressive 4.39 forty. It’s no stretch to say he may be the crispest route runner in the 2024 Draft, getting in and out of breaks smoothly and gaining separation with his sneaky explosiveness.

 411.
McConkey doesn’t have ideal NFL receiver size (6’0, 186 lb.). But then a lot of the best offensive weapons in the league fall into that category as well. He also faced some questions about his health after dealing with an ankle injury at the end of the 2023 season. McConkey missed five games in 2023, but I think his overall body of work in Athens should quell any doubts about his durability. McConkey’s going to be on the field when he’s needed if there’s any way he can be.

 412.
That dovetails with one of McConkey‘s other primary attributes, his reputation as a wonderful locker room guy and a leader on and off the field. He’s just not a player you have to worry about being a morale or legal issue. He’ll show up, he’ll work hard, and if his career in Athens is any indication, he will produce first downs and touchdowns like it’s his job (because now it actually is).

 413.
The Chargers have now secured Justin Herbert a reliable weapon who can be used in the slot or downfield. Ladd McConkey has secured the dream that could have eluded him had Kirby Smart not taking a chance on an undersized but productive kid from North Georgia.

 414.
This Cinderella story seems to have worked out for all involved. Until later…

 415.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
