19.
 20.
On Thursday evening, the Boston College women’s lacrosse team played against Michigan at Alumni Stadium in the 2024 NCAA quarterfinals. The Eagles comfortably handled the Wolverines, winning the game, 14-9, to advance to the program’s seventh-straight Final Four under head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein.

 21.
BC got the ball rolling early in this one, despite Michigan being a formidable and unfamiliar opponent. The Eagles defense played with some serious grit, forcing three Michigan turnovers in just the first quarter and making two saves. Their performance allowed BC to take control of the game early, establishing a 6-2 lead that quickly expanded to 11-4 by the end of the first half. Rachel Clark had earned herself a hat trick by halftime and the multi-headed Boston College offense pressured the Wolverines constantly. They came out of the gates with one of the best performances we’ve seen from them all postseason.

 22.
Things did start to shift as the second half got started, though. Michigan won 5 of 6 draw controls in the third quarter and Boston College turned over the few possessions they did manage to get, allowing the Wolverines to cut the lead to 12-7. Shea Dolce made some great saves as the game progressed but she could only do so much as Michigan started crawling back. Though with a last minute 3rd quarter score, like the Eagles always seem to do, they brought it back to 13-7 and gave BC some momentum.

 23.
To close out the game, it was all about defense. BC won all four draw controls of the fourth quarter, but plenty of turnovers on both sides made sure that each team had a chance at possession. Shots were firing left and right with plenty of fouls happening all over the field, but both goalies stood strong and very few shots managed to find their way to the back of the net. With Michigan only managing to score one goal until the final minute of the contest, they didn’t have nearly enough juice left to overcome their deficit and BC won the game by a 14-9 score.

 24.
Rachel Clark, Kayla Martello, and the BC offense were the early heroes in this one and it was their scoring that helped give BC such a wide margin that they held onto for most of the game. But some big saves by Shea Dolce and forced turnovers by the BC defense was the force that really secured the win in the end.

 25.
And now the Boston College Eagles are onto the final four as a result! They’ll face Syracuse for the third time this season in the national semifinal, the same team that they beat in last year’s Final Four match, on Friday May 24th in Cary, North Carolina. Be sure to check back with BC Interruption as we give you a full preview of what’s to come!

 48.
Former Boston College wide receiver Joseph Griffin Jr. committed to Wisconsin today, he told ESPN. Griffin visited the school earlier this week. He has two years of playing eligibility remaining and three years overall after playing his first two years at BC. pic.twitter.com/gJXZ8jzIPr
— Pete Thamel (@PeteThamel) May 10, 2024

 52.

 53.
The 6-3 Springfield, MA native came on brilliantly late in his freshman season. He had a 100 yard two touchdown performance against Duke and followed that up with a game winning touchdown over a top-25 team in NC State. He wasn’t able to get on the stat sheet this season, and ended his time with the Eagles with 43 catches for 579 yards and 6 touchdowns.

 54.
With BC bringing in two receivers in Jerand Bradley and Jayden McGowan, Bradley being in the same mold as the big-bodied Griffin, it makes sense for Joe to get a fresh start. His younger brother, Josiah, is however staying under Bill O’Brien. Since his hire, only three players have officially transferred, but Griffin was the first. Emmett Morehead committed to Old Dominion last week and Matthew Rueve is still exploring options.

 55.
As mentioned he will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Badgers. Good luck, Joe!

 75.
Last weekend, Boston College baseball (22-27, 8-19) was swept by Louisville, marking their sixth loss in a row. This weekend, Birdball put an end to their losing streak, but not before it reached eight games. The Maryland Terrapins (34-19) came to town and swept Saturday’s doubleheader before BC won the series finale on Sunday.

 76.
John West took the hill for the Eagles and struggled mightily in the opening frame of the series: Maryland scored six runs on three hits, two hit-by-pitches, two walks, and one error. West made it through 2.1 innings and gave up a total of seven runs, only two of which were earned and the Terrapins held a 7-0 lead after just three innings. BC scored its lone run of the game on a single by Vince Cimini in a game that Maryland won 8-1 in seven innings.

 77.
Game two of the doubleheader was much more competitive, but Birdball lost by a final score of 5-3. The Eagles actually outhit the Terrapins eight to six, but BC couldn’t score when they had the chance and left 12 runners on base.

 78.
A.J. Colarusso pitched a strong game, going five innings and striking out six batters. He allowed two earned runs, but another error by the defense also allowed two unearned runs to score. Maryland led 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning before BC could strike back. Cameron Leary drove in a run with a groundout and Kyle Wolff hit an RBI single to left field, making the score 4-2. Maryland tacked on another run in the seventh and despite loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth, the Eagles only scored one run and lost 5-3.

 79.
After eight straight losses, BC finally got back in the win column on Sunday. Eagles pitchers were masterful, combining to limit the Terrapins to one run and seven hits as BC earned a close 2-1 victory in walk-off fashion. Michael Farinelli started and pitched five scoreless innings, Tyler Mudd threw three innings of one-run ball, and Eric Schroeder earned his fifth win of the season with one scoreless inning of work in the ninth.

 80.
Nick Wang got the scoring started with a double to left that scored Leary in the first inning, and the score would remain 1-0 until the eighth inning. Maryland scored on a solo home run in the eighth and the game stayed tied until Wang came to the dish in the bottom of the ninth. He won the game for the Eagles with a walk-off, no-doubt homer to left field.

 81.
Boston College is now 22-27 with four regular season games remaining. The team will play its final home game of the season on May 14 against Georgetown before traveling to South Carolina for a series against Clemson.

 99.

 100.
 101.
On Sunday afternoon, the Boston College women’s lacrosse team hosted the Princeton Tigers at Alumni Stadium for a 2024 NCAA tournament game. BC earned a first round bye, so this was their first game of the tournament, while Princeton defeated Drexel a few days ago in the first round. The Eagles were definitely challenged in this one, but they took care of business and emerged with a 21-16 win to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals.

 102.
Things looked promising early for Boston College after their offense got going early and the Eagles were able to take a 6-3 lead midway through the first quarter, but Princeton quickly proved that they were not about to roll over. The Tigers gained three straight possessions and scored on all three to knot things back up at 6-6, and it quickly became was clear that Princeton was a dynamic team on offense and the Boston College defense was going to have to step up to win this game.

 103.
After a few nice defensive stops to start the second quarter on both sides, the two squads continued to trade goals. BC took three separate small 1-goal leads and Princeton answered right back each time. But the Tigers weren’t ready for the onslaught that the Eagles would start in the dying seconds of the first half. BC won three straight possessions and scored in very quick succession, jumping out to a 13-9 lead in just the final 28 seconds of the first half. Runs like these are Boston College’s bread and butter thanks to the amount of scorers they have on their roster. Rachel Clark, Kayla Martello, and Emma LoPinto all had a part in the action and Princeton’s defense had no answer.

 104.
The second half then became a game of runs. BC added another three straight scores and were comfortably in control of the game with a 16-9 lead just minutes into the third quarter. But Princeton’s dynamic offense would not go away, as the Tigers won five straight draw controls and scored four times to close out the quarter, putting themselves firmly back into the game. The Eagles answered right back with yet another run of their own, stuffing Princeton to start the fourth quarter and then winning five straight draw controls themselves and scoring four times. With a commanding 20-13 lead, there wasn’t enough time left on the clock and Princeton’s last offensive push was not enough to overcome Boston College.

 105.
Belle Smith was the offensive star of the day, scoring five goals and earning 4 draw control victories, proving that she is an incredible all-around player and a huge part of Boston College’s success. Mckenna Davis’s 3 goals and 4 assists were quite impressive, too, while teammates Rachel Clark, Cassidy Weeks, Emma LoPinto, and Andrea Reynolds all rounded out the box score with three goals of their own. And of course ACC Goaltender of the Year Shea Dolce was as impressive in net as she usually is, saving 10 shots and helping to wrestle control of Princeton’s great offense.

 106.
Next up for Boston College is their quarterfinal match-up with Michigan on Thursday May 16th at Alumni Stadium. The Wolverines upset Notre Dame in their part of the bracket, so the Eagles will be facing a new opponent instead of squaring off against the Irish for the third time in 2024. Michigan is no joke, earning regular season wins this year over #10 Penn, #12 Johns Hopkins, #13 Denver, #15 Penn State, #21 USC, #24 Colorado, and losing a very close game to #1 Northwestern by one goal. Looking forward to what should be a great game!

 126.
On Monday morning, Boston College quarterback Emmett Morehead announced his decision to transfer to Old Dominion on social media.

 127.

 128.

 132.
 133.

 134.
Morehead took over the starting QB duties at BC from Phil Jurkovec at the end of the 2022 season and was projected to be the full-time starter heading into 2023, but things didn’t turn out exactly as planned for the California native. UCF transfer Thomas Castellanos split time with Morehead on opening day and then took over the starting duties by Week 2, relegating Morehead right back to back-up duties. He appeared a few more times throughout the course of the season, but it became clear fairly quickly that Castellanos had earned the trust of Hafley’s coaching staff.

 135.
In the back half of his 2022 campaign as an Eagle, the only time where he really got a chance to show what he could do full-time, Morehead threw for a 60% completion rate, 9 TDs, and 6 INTs in 4.5 games. Good luck at ODU, Emmett!

 153.

 154.
 155.
Ready to get started on Sunday?

On Sunday night, the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee released their selections for the 2024 NCAA Tournament, and the Boston College Eagles found themselves seeded as the #2 overall team in the nation. As such, Boston College will be hosting all of their games through the quarterfinals if they make it that far.

 156.
First up on the slate, BC will host an octo-final game on Sunday May 12th against the winner of Princeton vs. Drexel. Princeton is ranked 16th in the nation, while Drexel just barely squeaked into the tournament, so the Eagles should be fairly heavy favorites no matter who they face. While Princeton has had some solid wins throughout the year, they’ve also lost almost all of their games against Boston College’s peers in the national rankings, like their losses to #11 Maryland, #7 Loyola, #9 Florida, #6 Virginia, and then a split with #10 Penn.

 157.
If Boston College advances to the quarterfinals, they will host another game on Thursday May 16th, this time likely against either #4 Notre Dame or #5 Michigan. The committee was not kind to the Eagles with this grouping, as Notre Dame was docked down to a #7 overall seed in the tournament and Michigan was punished for their OT loss to #12 Johns Hopkins in the Big Ten tournament. But both of these squads are quite formidable. Notre Dame beat BC in the regular season and played them closely in the ACC tournament, while Michigan has regular season victories over #10 Penn, #12 Johns Hopkins, #13 Denver, #15 Penn State, #21 USC, #24 Colorado, and a very close 1-goal loss to #1 Northwestern. I doubt they will breeze by this match-up like they did in their 20-6 victory over Notre Dame in last year’s quarterfinal.

 158.
If BC makes it past the quarterfinal game, they will go to their seventh-straight Final Four, which would be a remarkable feat. The likely opponent they would match-up against there would be another familiar ACC foe in #3 Syracuse, who Boston College has defeated twice already this season, including in the ACC title game.

 159.
And then, of course, the national title game could feature a rematch of last season’s title game. Defending national champion Northwestern is once again the #1 overall seed in the tournament. This Boston College team would love to get another crack at the Wildcats after their loss against them in last season’s national championship. But both teams have a long road to get there, and anything can happen! You can view the full bracket here.

 179.
On Sunday night, after all of the conference tournaments have concluded, the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee will select the field for the 2024 national tournament.

 180.
The Boston College Eagles have heated up at the end of the season, which has basically become a tradition under head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein. BC won their second-straight ACC title last week after running through two of the best teams in the nation, Notre Dame and Syracuse. They have positioned themselves well heading into national postseason play, with only Northwestern likely to get seeded ahead of them tonight. You can read more about the specific selection criteria here on the NCAA website. The big thing to watch for BC will be the other big teams on their side of the bracket.

 181.
Boston College has basically owned Syracuse these past few years, beating them in the ACC championship this season as well as in last season’s Final Four. Will the Orange be set up for yet another postseason meeting against the Eagles? Or could they face Notre Dame, a rival that they’ve struggled against this season? Tune in to find out.

 205.
Following last weekend’s series against Virginia, Boston College baseball (21-25, 8-19) couldn’t right the ship this week. They lost to a sub-.500 UMass Lowell team and were swept by Louisville, which extended BC’s losing streak to six games.

 206.
The UMass Lowell River Hawks rolled into Chestnut Hill on Tuesday with a 19-22 record and held the Eagles offense down just enough to force BC back to a losing record. The River Hawks scored four runs in the first inning on two two-run home runs. The Eagles cut the deficit in half in the second inning on a single by Sam McNulty, but UMass Lowell scored another run in the third to take a 5-2 lead.

 207.
Birdball scored once in the fifth but the River Hawks did the same in the sixth and the eighth innings and led the ballgame 7-3. But Boston College rallied back in the bottom of the eighth inning. Vince Cimini drove in a run on a single to right and Nick Wang scored on a groundout by Adam Magpoc. With runners on first and third, the Eagles engineered a double steal and Magpoc scored from third, making the score 7-6. Unfortunately, the Eagles couldn’t complete the comeback and lost by just a run.

 208.
BC started its second-to-last ACC series of the year on Thursday against the 26-18 (10-11) Louisville Cardinals. Pitching was again a problem for the Eagles, and BC allowed 13 hits and 12 runs to the Cardinals in a 12-7 loss.

 209.
Louisville scored five runs in the first, three runs in the sixth, and four runs in the eighth. The Eagles on the other hand managed to score all seven of their runs in the seventh inning. The highlight of the game for BC came in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded, two outs, and Cameron Leary at the dish. The lefty turned on an 0-1 pitch and sent it over the right field fence for a grand slam, putting the Eagles within one, 8-7. But BC pitching allowed four runs in the next inning and the game ended in a 12-7 score.

 210.
Friday’s game was much different than Thursday’s offensive showcase, but the end result was similar: Boston College lost 3-0. Despite strong pitching performances from John West and Tyler Judd, only three Eagles batters had hits and the offense was never a factor. On the bright side, West went seven innings, striking out four and giving up just two runs. Mudd threw the final two innings and allowed just one hit and one run.

 211.
Another pitching battle ensued in Saturday’s series finale, but the Eagles offense failed to support their pitchers and the team lost their sixth game in a row by a score of 5-3. BC actually took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Nick Wang, but that lead didn’t last long.

 212.
The Cardinals broke through with two runs in seventh and three in the eighth and led BC 5-1 entering the ninth inning. BC scratched across two runs in the frame but couldn’t finish the comeback and lost 5-3. The Eagles were held to just four hits in the entire game. BC’s starter Michael Farinelli ended up taking the loss, although he only gave up two runs in 6.1 innings and struck out three.

 213.
Boston College baseball is now 21-25 with an 8-19 ACC record with just one conference series remaining and the Eagles hold a two game lead over Notre Dame for sixth place in the Atlantic Division. Birdball will return to action next Saturday as they begin a two game series against Maryland.
