36.
According to the Associated Press, the event was hosted in San Salvador, the country’s capital, and guests included Spanish King Felipe VI and Argentinian President Javier Milei.

 37.
In February, Bukele captured a second term with 83% of the vote. His crackdown on criminal gangs throughout the country is seen as a significant contributor to his electoral success.

 38.
“We have finally conquered fear and are a truly free country,” said the 42-year-old conservative politician during his inauguration speech. Moreover, his political party, Nuevas Ideas, won 54 of the 60 seats in parliament.

 39.
Burkele administration has been admired publicly by former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson and praised by right-wing politician such as Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who were all in attendance on Saturday.

 84.
Caitlin Clark was hit with a cheap shot during a Saturday Women’s basketball game while her controversial rival Angel Reese cheered on the aggressive move.

 85.
During a WNBA game on Saturday, Clark along with the Indiana Fever faced off against Angel Reese who played for the Chicago Sky. Clark and the Fever went on to defeat Reese in their first time facing off in the WNBA since their college matchups.

 86.
However, a controversial foul late into the third quarter of the game caused some controversy on social media. After Sky guard Chennedy Carter completed a shot, she moved to guard Clark as she was receiving a pass.

 87.
Carter then delivered a rough shoulder check to Clark, knocking her to the ground. The referees then called out Carter for the foul and Clark was allowed to shoot from the free throw line.

 88.
Reese could be seen cheering Carter on right after she delivered the brutal knockdown to Clark.

 89.
Following the moment, Clark spoke with reporters once the quarter ended noting that the move by Carter was not a “basketball play.”

 126.
Tucker Carlson claimed during a recent interview with Donald Trump Jr. that the January 6th Capitol rioters were “pure-hearted” Americans.

 127.
Trump Jr. joined the former Fox News host for an interview on his new platform to discuss the former president’s criminal conviction earlier this week in a Manhattan courtroom. Trump was convicted on 34 counts for falsifying business records regarding hush money payments to Stormy Daniels.

 128.
During his interview with Carlson, Don Jr. began slamming everyday FBI agents, arguing they need to speak up against DOJ leadership for the “bastardization of justice.”

 129.
Carlson then went on to slam law enforcement and media figures who labeled the January 6th rioters as “insurrectionists.”

 130.

 134.

 135.

TRUMP JR: I gave the door kickers a pass for far too long, which is like, hey, you know, they can’t go against the leadership. But like, when you’re watching this kind of bastardization of justice, when you’re watching this sort of lopsided level, when they’re, you know, they spend more time kicking down the doors of an Amish farmer selling unpasteurized milk than actually going after people committing terror because, you know, they’re trans or, you know, whatever it is that they are, you really lose that ability to get that pass that I really wanted them to give. But, you know, I wanted to believe that everything I grew up believing was accurate. And it’s all bullshit. It’s just all bullshit. So we have to fix that. That’s that’s why we fight now, to actually make it so.

 136.
CARLSON: But you saw this on January 6th, too. I mean, I know that Joe Scarborough and the rest of the liars presented those people as like, insurrectionists and dangerous. They were actually the most pure hearted and most naive…I mean, they were they were literally walking with pocket constitutions. Saying, no, you can’t do this. They believed in the system much more than the people who put them in prison, who don’t believe in it at all.

 137.
TRUMP JR: Without question. And you saw that. I mean, you know, the narrative was pushed so much. The clips that they used were designed to create something that didn’t actually happen. I mean, it’s so sick.

The post ‘It’s All Bullshit!’ Tucker Carlson Tells Don Jr. January 6th Rioters Were ‘Pure-Hearted’ Americans first appeared on Mediaite.

 159.
 160.
Comic and pundit Bill Maher got annoyed with CNN anchor and Max host Chris Wallace for bringing up – and playing the clip of, comments Maher made over 23 years ago about the 9/11 hijackers that eventually resulted in him losing his TV show.

 161.
Wallace interviewed Maher for this week’s edition of his Max series Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace on a variety of topics, including politics. his affinity for marijuana, and his new book. And, in the course of talking about Maher’s long career — the controversy after 9/11 that cost him his show Politically Incorrect.

 162.
After Wallace brought up the remarks, and played a clip of them, Maher first responded with disdain that this still comes up all these years later.

 163.
“First of all, this is so old,” said Maher. “Really? That’s of interest still?”

 164.
“Well, yeah. I mean, we’re talking about your career,” said Maher. “We’re talking about 20 years.”

 165.
Maher said he regrets that he said it right at the time, but not that he regretted saying it in principle.

 166.
“I mean, George Bush said, the cowards, uh the terrorists win, unless we go back to doing what we were doing. So I went back to doing what I was doing, which was telling the truth as I saw it.”

 167.
But he also pointed out that the decision to cancel wasn’t based on losing viewers.

 168.
“We never lost ratings. We never lost the audience,” said Maher.

 169.

WALLACE: In 1993, you launched Politically Correct – –

 170.
MAHER: Incorrect.

 171.
WALLACE: Incorrect, sorry, and yes Politically Correct would not be the name of your show, and – –

 172.
MAHER: I was rebelling against it.

 173.
WALLACE: — On ABC. And eventually, years later, the biggest controversy of your career, where you, right, days after 911, you made some kind of a comparison of the U.S. military and the al Qaeda hijackers —

 174.
MAHER: Not the U.S. military-

 175.
WALLACE: Take a look

 176.
MAHER: It never was.

 177.
WALLACE: Take a look.

 178.
[CLIP]

 179.
MAHER: Yeah, but wasn’t about the military, I said we. We as a society.

 180.
WALLACE: Well, I know, but, the missiles, it wasn’t the grocer who was lobbying them.

 181.
MAHER: Yeah, and the military didn’t pay for them either. Okay, that’s just that was, that was — first of all, this is so old. Really? That’s of interest still?

 182.
WALLACE: Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean, we’re talking about your career. We’re talking about 20 years. Let me just ask you this question and then we’ll move on.

 183.
MAHER: Anyway.

 184.
WALLACE: Looking back, were you just trying to be contrarian?

 185.
MAHER: Of course not, I was agreeing with somebody who said that. You skipped that part of it. Somebody said, they the people who did the mission may have been evil, but they were not cowards, which is, I feel like not even controversial. Sticking with the suicide mission — um, not cowardly.

 186.
WALLACE: Do you regret having said it?

 187.
MAHER: I regret having said that that night. It was probably, it was six days after 9/11, and the country wasn’t ready to hear the truth. I mean, George Bush said, the cowards, uh the terrorists win, unless we go back to doing what we were doing. So I went back to doing what I was doing, which was telling the truth as I saw it. We never lost ratings. We never lost the audience. What we lost was the sponsors.

 188.
WALLLACE: And you ended up losing your perch because ABC cancelled you a few months later. I agree, the ratings didn’t go down, but they cancelled you.

 189.
MAHER: They definitely cancelled us. And I’m glad they did, because I wound up in so much of a better place.

 218.
Tucker Carlson sat down with his self-described “buddy” Donald Trump Jr. for a postmortem on former President Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 counts of business fraud.

 219.
After 9.5 hours of deliberation, a Manhattan jury announced Thursday that it had reached a unanimous verdict in the case. The jury found that Trump was guilty on all 34 counts related to covering up a hush money payment to a porn star in order to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

 220.
Many conservatives have echoed Trump’s assertion that President Joe Biden and the Democrats orchestrated his indictment and conviction as a way to hamper the former president’s chances at a second term. They argue that Democrats are the real perpetrators of election interference by keeping Trump tied up in the legal system, and that the paper trail leading to Trump’s conviction was based solely on a filing error.

 221.
As he has done in the past, Carlson took the opportunity to stoke people’s fears built around Trumpian platitudes such as, “If they can do this to me, they can do this anyone,” and “They’re not after me, they’re after you, and I just happen to be standing in the way.”

 222.
Carlson said:

 223.

I think a lot of people yesterday when that verdict came down — I’m among them — my first reaction was, wow, they’ll actually hurt us. They would execute us — me — I’ll just say that speaking for myself. And there would be an MSNBC panel of former federal prosecutors telling their audience that I deserved it and they’d be laughing. Then Project Lincoln would send out a congratulatory tweet. And I was like, wow, there’s sort of a lack of humanity, there’s a coldness, there’s an evil under all this that I think I underestimate.

 224.

 250.
Sport personality Colin Cowherd reacted to Donald Trump’s post-criminal conviction remarks by pushing back against his claims that the trial was “rigged.”

 251.
Earlier this week, the former president was unanimously convicted by a Manhattan jury on 34 counts relating to falsifying business records for hush money payments ton Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election season. Following the conviction, Trump attacked Judge Juan Merchan and claimed the trial was “rigged” while adding the real verdict would come during the November election.

 252.
Cowherd slammed the Republican nominee for “selling” an America “that doesn’t exist” adding “you can’t keep selling me on how bad the country I live in is, because it’s not bad for me and my friends.”

 253.
“He’s trying to sell me an America that doesn’t exist,” Cowherd said on the podcast The Volume. “I don’t see crime, I’m not stumbling over homeless people. I see happy people…I’m constantly being sold an America by Donald Trump of ‘crime rates are skyrocketing.’ No, they’re actually not…you can’t keep selling me on how bad the country I live in is, because it’s not bad for me and my friends.”

 254.
He also slammed Trump’s claim that he is being targeted by the Justice Department by noting his entire campaign is a “cabal of convicts.”

 255.
“Donald Trump is now a felon,” Cowherd said. “His campaign chairman was a felon. So is his deputy campaign manager, his personal lawyer, his chief strategist, his National Security Adviser, his Trade Advisor, his Foreign Policy Adviser, his campaign fixer and his company CFO. They’re all felons. Judged by the company you keep. It’s a cabal of convicts.”

 256.
“Stop trying to sell me on ‘everything’s rigged, the country’s falling into the sea, the economy’s terrible,” Cowherd added. “The America I live in is imperfect. But compared to the rest of the world, I think we’re doing okay.”

 281.
Donald Trump’s former “fixer” Michael Cohen said Saturday that he’s “afraid” for the former president to go to jail because Trump could leak classified information to the wrong people.

 282.
Cohen played a key role in Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial, acting as the prosecution’s star witness who was able to link his former boss to hush money payments. Trump was convicted on 34 counts of business fraud on Thursday.

 283.
Cohen told MSNBC’s The Weekend that he’s not concerned about Trump’s safety behind bars.

 284.
“I’m more concerned for you and for all of us, and our families, and for the American people,” Cohen said, continuing:

 285.

This clown had four years of being debriefed on national security issues. On top of that, if he becomes the Republican nominee, he gets debriefed again! Think about this. America, think about this.

 286.
You now have a Republican leading candidate who’s a felon, who’s going to be debriefed on national security issues knowing how loose-lipped he is. How he’s willing to give away America’s secrets to Vladimir Putin, or to anybody for money or just simply for bragging rights. He did it with the Australian billionaire at Mar-a-Lago. He sat there in Helsinki with Vladimir Putin talking about national security issues but nobody was around except for Vladimir Putin’s translator.

 287.
These are not normal things. You do not allow somebody like Donald Trump to be declassified, especially now as a felon. So, my concern is, in a prison situation, he is willing to give away these secrets, as I always say, for a bag of tuna or a book of stamps. He will do it because does not care.

 292.
Later in the interview, Cohen added, “We know for a fact that he gave away information on how many nuclear warheads are on a specific nuclear ship. One of our military vessels! I mean, think about how dangerous the information in that guy’s head is. 320.
 321.
Comic and pundit Bill Maher on Friday said that if Judge Juan Merchan sentences Donald Trump to jail time in the so-called “Hush Money” trial in New York, “MAGA Nation” may start a “race war” in the United States.

 322.
On the latest edition of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher the host was joined by CNN commentator and Democratic strategist David Axelrod and former Republican congressman Ken Buck to cover the Trump trial result, the election, and other topics — including the potential consequences for America of Trump’s conviction this week on 34 felony counts in the Manhattan case brought by DA Alvin Bragg.

 323.
After some discussion about the mechanics of the trial, reactions to the jury verdict, and how Trump has been responding, the question of what would happen if the former president were sentenced to prison time came up.

 324.
Although both Axelrod and Buck felt that it’s unlikely, they acknowledged that Democrats aren’t happy about that, and Maher said that if Merchan does do so, “MAGA Nation will go nuts.”

 325.
“If they put him in jail, I know it’ll happen. Because the judge’s name is Juan,” said Maher. Everything becomes racial in this country. And that’s partly because of our horrible, despicable, racial past. Partly because some of that racism lives on in the present. And some of it because the far left makes everything racial.”

 326.
Maher brought the movie “Civil War”, which he does not recommend, and said an unrealistic part was that the war in the film isn’t race-based. “A civil war in this country,” he said. “I’m sorry to say, becomes a race war.”

 327.
“And if they put them in jail, I mean, that’s – the first thing his supporters are going to say is, Oh, that’s what it is,” he said. “A Black District attorney, you know, all these people who are the District Attorneys, they’re Black. The judge was not White. This is what it is.”

 328.
Some analysts, contrary to Axelrod and Buck, are predicting jail time in the case.

 329.

AXELROD: I would really be shocked if this judge gave him a prison sentence for this.

 330.
MAHER: I mean, MAGA Nation will go nuts. I don’t know if that’s a reason to or not to do something. But they will.

 331.
AXELROD: Yeah, but one of the things about this apocalyptic language that you hear from all of these, the amen chorus is they really are inviting violence. And that’s a big concern of mine. And Trump is completely unrestrained in suggesting that maybe that’s appropriate. I mean, he hints that all the time. That’s how he got in trouble on January 6th. And he’s doing it again because I think he’s more desperate now than he was then.

 332.
MAHER: But if they put him in jail, I know it’ll happen. Because the judge’s name is Juan.

 333.
AXELROD: Yes.

 334.
MAHER: Everything becomes racial in this country. And that’s partly because of our horrible, despicable, racial past. Partly because some of that racism lives on in the present. And some of it because the far left makes everything racial. But that’s what it’s going to be. I mean, you see that movie Civil War that’s out now?

 335.
AXELROD: I have not I’ve heard, I’ve heard that I should.

 336.
MAHER: Yeah. No. It sucks. I’m sorry.

 337.
AXELROD: I could .. you just saved me two hours.

 338.
MAHER: Yeah I did. Well. I’m sorry, that’s a harsh review. The actors are great, but it sucks because they don’t explain why we’re in the Civil War, and it’s just not realistic. First of all, California and Texas are on the same team, and they never they never explain that. The federal government is fighting the “Western Alliance,” which is us and Texas? Really? They’re on the same side? And like, you know, it’s unclear who’s on what side and for what reason. And there’s Black people fighting alongside of White people. And I’m sorry, but.

 339.
AXELROD: Now I don’t have to see the movie.

 340.
MAHER: No, you don’t. A civil war in this country, I’m sorry to say, becomes a race war. That’s that’s the sad truth about this country. And if they put them in jail, I mean, that’s – the first thing his supporters are going to say is, Oh, that’s what it is.

 341.
AXELROD: Well, that’s the first thing he will say.

 342.
MAHER: A Black District attorney, you know, all these people who are the District Attorneys, they’re Black. The judge was not White. This is what it is. So…

 370.
A broadcast by right-wing podcaster Tim Pool was cut short when guest Laura Loomer, an outspoken white nationalist and conspiracy theorist, called for Democrats to be executed.

 371.
On a recent Timcast IRL YouTube stream, Pool reacted to the 34 guilty verdicts against former President Donald Trump.

 372.
“I’ll put it this way: should Democrats be in jail? No question. When Donald Trump gets elected, should he start locking them up? No question. Should there be lists of Democrats who need to go to jail? One hundred percent,” Pool said, continuing:

 373.

POOL: The reason for that is, they’ve committed crimes. We need to make sure that when Donald Trump wins, we’ve got an attorney general, a deputy attorney general, a head of the CIA and the FBI. Kash Patel would be fantastic. We can have, for attorney general, there’s some names floating around. And, then they can start having their investigators and the feds issuing subpoenas, pulling up evidence, and with real evidence, bring them to judges for warrants. Then these people can spend three years of their lives fighting tooth and nail against the government for crimes they committed and we can prove. And the reason why we put them on trial is, we can show the whole world we will uncover what you’ve done, we will make sure everybody knows, and you will be held accountable for it.

 374.
LOOMER: Not just jail, they should get the death penalty. You know, we actually used to have, the punishment for treason in this country —

 375.
And with that, the show came to an abrupt end.

 407.
 408.
 409.
Bill Pruitt, a former producer on The Apprentice, told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins all about the disturbing scene surrounding Donald Trump’s alleged use of the n-word to describe a contestant for the reality show’s first season finale.

 410.
Pruitt’s recollections included the shocked reaction of Carolyn Kepcher, the former chief operating officer for the Trump Golf Properties, and a judge on the show, as Trump was deciding on a winner between Bill Rancic, a white man, and Kwame Jackson, who was Black.

 411.
“So, basically, we’re there — the producers, and Carolyn Kepcher and George Ross, who are the two advisors who worked for Trump at the Trump Organization, and they’re allowed a little bit more leeway because they worked for Trump, so they get to say things that we can’t say, necessarily, directly.” Pruitt continued:

 412.

And one point, Carolyn Kepcher, who is the head of his hospitality unit and ran one of his golf clubs, sort of came outside herself and said, “Kwame Jackson oversaw Omarosa,” who was brought back onto the task and created all kinds of problems for herself and other people all along the season. But, it was great TV and she was kept around for whatever reason.

 413.
And, for that, Carolyn Kepcher thought, “Well, Kwame deserves to be considered for how graceful he was in handling this.” And we all sort of agreed. But it was tilting things in a direction that we didn’t necessarily need it to go because we wanted to share an equitable story.

 414.
And Trump seemed to have an issue with this idea all along. You could see him reacting and shaking his head, wobbling his head, grimacing, wincing, before he said, “Yeah, but would America buy a” — and he said the n-word — “winning?”

 415.
And, I remember, I was looking right at Carolyn when this was spoken, and she is very pretty blonde woman whose skin went bright scarlet. And then I looked at Trump to see the reaction that he was giving, like it was some sort of joke, and he was still wincing and bobbing his head, and he was serious.

 416.
Ultimately, Jackson was “fired” and Rancic became the winner of season one.

 417.
Pruitt, whose non-disclosure agreement with the show just expired after 20 years, told Collins that video exists of Trump’s n-word comment.

 418.
“In 2016 I tweeted to people to go and look for these tapes because I know that they existed, because we recorded those meetings, we recorded that moment there. It’s somewhere on a tape, on a file,” Pruitt said.

 419.
Show creator Mark Burnett, who has not commented on Pruitt’s claim, has been credited with bolstering Trump’s image as a successful businessman on the show, leading to Trump becoming a household name and ultimately winning the presidency in 2016.

 443.
 444.
Raymond Santana, one of New York City’s wrongly accused “Central Park Five,” said Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts of business fraud was a case of karma in action.

 445.
CNN’s Victor Blackwell explained that Santana was one of five Black and Brown teenagers who were “charged, tried, and convicted” of beating a raping a woman in New York’s Central Park in 1989.

 446.
“Donald Trump paid for full-page ads in New York City newspapers. He called for the death penalty to be reinstated in New York. Trump wanted these boys killed!” Blackwell said. “In 2002, a convicted rapists and murderer confessed to the Central Park rape, and the Central Park Five became ‘The Exonerated Five.’ But Trump has never acknowledged their innocence or apologized.”

 447.
Santana spoke about what it was like to hear that Trump was now a convicted felon.

 448.
“For me, it was about karma,” Santana said. “It was the example of, this is what happens when rich billionaires who stand on white privilege now have to answer, right?” Santana continued:

 449.

So it becomes a surreal moment. It also becomes a a moment where you just got to take it in, right? This is the stuff that we had to deal with of 1989: going through trial, hearing the conviction, hearing a guilty verdict. And then, now having to sit there and wait for sentencing. I understand that process all too well.

 450.
And, so, I think now, it’s like, you get to see a person of Donald Trump’s stature right? Who was a former president, and now you get to see that he’s not above the law, that he can be touched. That he can have this experience that’s very similar to mine. It becomes a moment that is a surreal moment. It’s a full circle moment for me.

 451.
Santana added, “Now that Donald Trump has experienced the justice system, now that he has dealt with prosecutors, dealt with the court system itself, said that it’s rigged, asked for venue change, said that there’s no respect. He said it was a rigged decision. And, so, now that he has gone through this experience, and he has experienced the criminal justice system and its almost totality, I want to ask him: do you think that we’ still guilty? Do you think that the criminal justice system is it correct?”

 475.
CNN commentator Maggie Haberman weighed on Donald Trump’s diatribe at Trump Tower on Friday morning, where the former president slammed the guilty verdict he received the day before.

 476.
On Thursday, a Manhattan jury convicted Trump of 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to cover up extramarital affairs.

 477.
Trump took no questions at what was billed as a press event on Friday morning. Instead, he ranted for more than 30 minutes and called the U.S. a “fascist state.”

 478.
“What did you make of it today?” Kaitlan Collins asked Haberman on Friday’s edition of The Source.

 479.
“I talked to a number of people around him who are very happy he didn’t take questions because that probably would’ve led to more problematic areas for him,” Haberman replied. “In their ideal world, he would’ve just kept it focused on the process and ‘This is unfair,’ and the parts of his speech where he talked about this is about the Constitution and they’re trying to make this a much bigger fight.”

 480.
Haberman went on to say that Trump simply cannot prevent himself from repeating his longtime grievances – including one that his advisers “never” want him to articulate:

 481.

But he can’t help himself. And so he attacks the judge, and he attacks Michael Cohen, and he attacks this one and that one. And he says all kinds of other things. And then he starts talking about the January 6 House investigation, which is never a topic his advisers want him talking about. So, it turned into a mini-rally and it was filled with grievances and I think you will see more of that.

 482.
In addition to the New York case, Trump has been indicted in three other jurisdictions. Two of those cases stem from his attempt to overturn the 2020 election, which he falsely claims was rigged against him. Those efforts culminated in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, which the former president watched unfold on television while ignoring lawmakers’ pleas for help. In the last Congress, the Democratic-controlled House formed the Jan. 6 select committee to investigate Trump’s role in attempting to subvert the election up to and including the riot.

 503.
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) is calling on the governor of New York to pardon Donald Trump after the former president was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments.

 504.
Phillips, who unsuccessfully challenged President Joe Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination this cycle, tweeted at Governor Kathy Hochul (D) on Friday night to request a pardon on Trump’s behalf.

 505.
“Donald Trump is a serial liar, cheater, and philanderer, a six-time declarer of corporate bankruptcy, an instigator of insurrection, and a convicted felon who thrives on portraying himself as a victim,” Phillips wrote. “@GovKathyHochul should pardon him for the good of the country.”

 509.

 510.
Phillips is the first Democrat in Congress to call for Trump’s pardon, which seems unlikely.

 511.
“Today’s verdict reaffirms that no one is above the law,” Hochul said in a statement shortly after the verdict was handed down on Thursday.

 512.
Republicans reacted to the verdict with predictable ire. Trump called the U.S. a “fascist state” during a rant at Trump Tower on Friday morning. The day before, his son demoted the U.S. to “third-world shithole” status. One Newsmax host responded by reminding “you people in your cities” that Republicans own a lot of guns.

 513.
Despite the freakout, some Republicans are insisting that being a convicted felon will actually help Trump get elected, as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) claimed.

 514.
Phillips wanting Trump pardoned “for the good of the country” echoes the rhetoric deployed by former President Gerald Ford, who pardoned Richard Nixon because, Ford said, prosecuting Nixon would mean “our people would again be polarized in their opinions.”

 515.
Trump is under indictment in three other jurisdictions, but those trials are unlikely to start before November’s presidential election. The sentencing in his New York trial is scheduled for July 11.
The post House Democrat Calls on New York Governor to Pardon Trump ‘For the Good of the Country’ first appeared on Mediaite.

 534.
A Fox News contributor explained the many reasons why Donald Trump is “unfit for high office” before stating that he might vote for the former president because he was criminally convicted this week.

 535.
Guy Benson, who hosts a show on Fox Talk and is a frequent guest on Special Report on Fox News, wrote a column for Townhall in which he said that while he has always voted against Trump, he is considering backing the former president. On Thursday, Trump was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to cover up extramarital affairs. Conservatives were apoplectic over the verdict while simultaneously insisting that being a convicted felon will vault Trump into the White House.

 536.
Benson called the hush money payments “very sordid business,” but said nonetheless the case should not have been brought.

 537.
“Smart legal minds from across the spectrum seem to agree that there are ample grounds for ‘reversible error’ appeals, on multiple fronts,” he wrote. “But in some important ways, that’s beside the point. The goal here, as I see it, has been to emblazon ‘convicted felon’ across Donald Trump’s forehead prior to the election, then repeat those two words endlessly until November.”

 538.
After slamming the case against the former president, Benson confessed he does not think much of Trump, calling him “fundamentally unfit for high office”:

 539.

I have found Donald Trump to be a volatile, capricious, myopic, petty man for as long as I’ve been aware of his existence. I have voted against him in two presidential primaries (and would have a third time if my state’s Republican Party hadn’t canceled its nominating contest in 2020, in obsequious deference to the incumbent). I have voted against him (third party/write-in) in two general elections. My full intention has been to do so again this November, despite my deep opposition to the governance of the Biden administration. Biden has been a far worse president than I’d expected, and my expectations were low. The reason I’ve been planning to nevertheless vote for someone other than Donald Trump once again is that he has always been fundamentally unfit for high office, in my opinion.

 540.
Benson pointed out that after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, which he said Trump is “principally responsible” for, he wrote that his conduct was “impeachable” and said Republicans would be “demented” to nominate him again.

 541.
Nevertheless, Benson said he is considering casting his ballot for Trump this time around:

 542.

I am now strongly entertaining the possibility of voting for Trump. I stand behind, and still believe, every single thing I wrote in the preceding paragraph. What I’m grappling with now is whether the appalling lawfare so brazenly employed against Trump in this case is more dangerous than anything Trump, and his worst excesses, represent. To be clear, I don’t believe Trump is “above the law.” I’ve written about how the federal classified documents and obstruction case against him is well-grounded in evidence. Yes, I also think the lack of charges against the last two Democratic presidential nominees for similar or identical categories of crimes are a real problem, as it pertains to the even-handed application of laws to politicians at the highest level.

 543.
He went on to cite Trump’s indictment in federal court in Florida, where the ex-president has been charged with willfully retaining classified documents after leaving office and obstructing the government’s efforts to retrieve them. Benson said Trump’s actions were “clearly illegal” and said a conviction in that case “would not be a legal travesty” like the New York prosecution.

 544.
“This is as dirty as dirty politics get, even [if] the target is an unsympathetic figure to so many,” he continued. “It cannot be rewarded. It must be punished, in fact. And perhaps the only real, painful way to punish it is to elect Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. I do fear some of what a second Trump term might look like, particularly under these circumstances.”

 567.
 568.
Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy asked President Joe Biden if he fears prosecution after his predecessor was criminally convicted on Thursday.

 569.
Biden hosted the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs at the White House on Friday, where afterward Doocy sought Biden’s reaction to a New York jury finding Donald Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

 570.
Earlier in the day, the president said it was “reckless” and “irresponsible” to baselessly allege the trial was rigged. Trump has falsely maintained that Biden was behind the prosecution.

 571.
Appearing on Friday’s Special Report on Fox News, Doocy shared his brief exchange with Biden:

 572.

DOOCY: Do you think this conviction helps Trump in the election?

 573.
BIDEN: I have no idea.

 574.
DOOCY: Are you worried that this could happen to you someday? Somebody comes up with some charges and tries to bring you into court after your term?

 575.
BIDEN: Not at all. I didn’t do anything wrong. The system still works.

 576.
DOOCY: And when Trump says you’re just trying to bruise him, what do you say? Politically, politically, he thinks you’re pulling the strings behind the scenes doing all this to help yourself.

 577.
BIDEN: I didn’t know I was that powerful.

 578.
Biden is slated for a 2020 rematch with Trump, who is now a convicted felon. The former president is also under criminal indictment in three other jurisdictions. Trump’s sentencing in the New York case is set for July 11 – four days before the Republican National Convention, where he will be nominated for president for the third consecutive time.

 598.
Listeners of controversial pro-Trump activist Charlie Kirk may have gotten whiplash from listening to his dramatic rant equating Donald Trump’s conviction to both the 9/11 terror attacks and the assassination of JFK before hurling himself into a promo for a show sponsor without any warning.

 599.
Kirk delivered the screed, while wearing a MAGA cap, declaring it a tragedy that Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of business fraud.

 600.
“They’ve never loved this country,” Kirk said of those prosecuting Trump. “They have bitterness for it. And they see Donald Trump as a true threat, because he is a threat. He is an existential threat to their regime. He brings you, the American people, into the fight. Yes, it is a tipping point. Yesterday is a day like any other. It will go down in the memory of the nation like the JFK assassination, like 9/11. It’ll go down like the 2008 financial crisis, it’ll go down like Covid, it’ll go down like the 2016 election. You will remember where you were on May 30.”

 601.
Then, after whipping up his listeners, and without taking a breath, Kirk dove into a promo for a joint supplement company that’s been a “wonderful supporter of this show for quite some time.”

 602.
“So check it out — knee pain, back pain, joint pain… Check it out right now,” Kirk said.

 629.
 630.
Newsmax host Carl Higbie went on a tirade on Friday after former President Donald Trump was convicted by a Manhattan jury the day before.

 631.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to cover up extramarital affairs. Trump was concerned the affairs would come to light and harm his presidential aspirations. The Republican freakout has been swift if not predictable. Despite their outrage and indignation, some conservatives insist that being a convicted felon will help Trump’s chances of returning to the White House in November’s election.

 632.
During Friday’s edition of Frontline on Newsmax, Higbie demanded congressional Republicans drop everything and go after those involved in Trump’s prosecution.

 633.
“Where the hell are you guys on this one?” he said. “Stop everything in Congress. Subpoena everyone. Don’t take summer recess. Don’t take weekends. Don’t even get up to go to the bathroom. Get in there and subpoena everyone. This judge, his daughter, everyone affiliated with anything ever, ever! I don’t care if we stop building bridges and highways and stop funding our government. You fight fire with fire. Otherwise, these Marxists are going to keep doing this.”

 634.
The host then called on Republican attorneys general to begin targeting Democrats. He also addressed the “tyrants” responsible for Trump’s prosecution and conviction:

 635.

I’m not just talking. You tyrants are about to awaken a machine you don’t want. You are pushing people to the edge. The same party that is offended by the wrong pronoun is pushing the party that owns 90% of the guns, of which, the majority defends our nation, who mine our minerals, who build our skyscrapers, and drive our trucks.

 636.
You weak people have no idea. You people in your cities with your white-shoe consultants, country clubs who thought prosecuting Trump was a good idea. You have never met America.

 637.
After talking about how Republicans have most of the guns and making a Braveheart reference, Higbie claimed it is Democrats who want violence.

 638.
“They want violence so they can cancel this next election that they know they’re gonna lose,” he baselessly alleged. “Don’t fall for it. And the liberal networks? They want it so bad, they can taste it.”

 639.
The host concluded by predicting Republicans will win in a landslide in November and that Trump will prosecute Democrats.

 640.
“And when he does, I’m gonna sit back, I’m gonna drink a beer, I’m gonna smoke a cigar the size of Cuba and laugh because they earned this one,” he stated.

 660.
Dinesh D’Souza’s movie that sought to prove former President Donald Trump’s fantasy that the 2020 election was stolen from him by widespread fraud has been debunked time and time again. Now, years after its release, its executive producer is retracting the film entirely.

 661.
Following the 2020 election, D’Souza released 2000 Mules as an attempt to justify Trump’s loss to President Joe Biden. Trump famously held a screening of the movie at his Mar-a-Lago estate and MAGA supporters promoted the film during it’s release in May 2022.

 662.
The film was produced by Salem Media Group, a conservative radio juggernaut that airs the likes of Sebastian Gorka and Charlie Kirk.

 663.
In a new statement, Salem apologized for the film and said it would cease distributing it. The move came after a man featured in the movie sued Salem for defamation.

 664.
The movie featured video showing the man, Mark Andrews, putting five ballots in a drop box in Lawrenceville, Georgia in 2020. D’Souza falsely claimed in the film that Andrews’ actions were criminal, describing the votes as “fraudulent.”

 665.
The statement from Salem blamed D’Souza for the smear.

 666.
“In publishing the film and the book, we relied on representations made to us by Dinesh D’Souza and True the Vote, Inc. (‘TTV’) that the individuals depicted in the videos provided to us by TTV, including Mr. Andrews, illegally deposited ballots,” the company said in a statement. “We have learned that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has cleared Mr. Andrews of illegal voting activity in connection with the event depicted in 2000 Mules.”

 667.
The company added, “It was never our intent that the publication of the 2000 Mules film and book would harm Mr. Andrews. We apologize for the hurt the inclusion of Mr. Andrews’ image in the movie, book, and promotional materials have caused Mr. Andrews and his family.”

 691.
Jesse Watters told Fox News viewers that his liberal mother keeps sending him test messages to gloat about former President Donald Trump’s criminal conviction.

 692.
A Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on Thursday of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments. Reaction to the verdict has largely fallen along party lines, with liberals hailing it as a win for the rule of law and conservatives claiming that the U.S. is now a totalitarian hellhole.

 693.
On Friday’s edition of The Five, the co-hosts discussed the verdict. Watters explained that his mother has been relentlessly needling him about it.

 694.
“My mom is celebrating. She texted me that she was dancing after the verdict. Dancing. And then she kept all day sending me 34, 34, 34 felony counts,” Watters complained. “She’s a grandmother. She’s a grandmother! Get it together, Mom! Oh my God!”

 695.
Watters’ co-hosts, who were also outraged by the verdict, were nonetheless amused by the anecdote.

 696.
“Who’s the victim here?” Watters said of Trump’s felonies. “Why are they celebrating anything? There is no victim. Why are they happy? Who are they happy for? If anything, Donald Trump’s the victim of this case.”

 697.
Watters wasn’t the only Fox personality upset by liberal rejoicing after Trump’s conviction. Earlier in the day, network legal analyst Jonathan Turley alleged, “There is a dehumanizing aspect” and “that people on the other side no longer view [Trump] as a human being.”

 698.
Trump claimed throughout the trial that the proceedings were rigged against him and baselessly said President Joe Biden was behind the prosecution. The former president says will appeal. His sentencing is set for July 11.

 723.
Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to speak before a joint session of Congress at a date to be determined.

 724.
The Hill first reported Friday that the invitation went out as “a show of wartime support for the longtime ally despite mounting political divisions over Israel’s military assault on Gaza.”

 725.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell (R-TN) and House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) issued the invitation, writing:

 726.

We invite you to share the Israeli government’s vision for defending democracy, combatting terror and establishing a just and lasting peace in the region.

 727.
Some Democrats have soured on Netanyahu’s hard-line approach to rooting out Hamas, criticizing Israel for creating a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The Israeli Defense Forces continue to push ahead with the war, however, confirming Friday that its forces are now in central Rafah. More than a million Palestinian civilians have fled the fighting there, and tens of thousands of civilians have been killed in the enclave since the bombing began.

 728.
Also Friday, President Joe Biden called on Hamas to accept a new three-phase ceasefire plan proposed by Israel in exchange for the hostages Hamas has been holding since it attacked Israel on Oct. 7.

 729.
“Israel has made their proposal. Hamas says it wants a ceasefire. This deal is an opportunity to prove whether they really mean it,” Biden said.

 730.
From a NATO meeting in Prague Friday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken affirmed U.S. support for Israel by condemning an arrest warrant the International Criminal Court issued against Netanyahu for war crimes. Blinken said:

 731.

With regard to policy and the ICC, look, we’ve been very clear about this: the decision that the prosecutor made was, in our judgment, profoundly wrongheaded. And, in creating the equation between Hamas and Israel — Hamas’ leaders and Israel’s democratically elected leaders — as we’ve said, as I’ve said, it’s, quite frankly, shameful.
