Had fun seeing the Morales’ & Vergara’s (The Staff of Parent Life Lubbock) last night during the Youth For Christ MidWinter staff conference in San Antonio.

I’m here for a couple of days working the National Network of Youth Ministries (NNYM) Booth. It’s exciting days because Youth For Christ (YFC) and NNYM now have an official working partnership that is being unveiled to the national staff of YFC.

Renee and I joke that we helped begin the national partnership since we became friends years ago and I joined the board and now serve as the chairman for Parent Life Lubbock.

So please pray for Renee, Abi, Devin & Mike over the next few days, that they’ll be renewed in their calling and have greater clarity and vision for how to best do ministry in Lubbock!

Last year before Christmas, I started driving a little bit for Uber.

One of the surprises I got was after I made my first 5 trips, I got a $100 bonus and the friend who referred me got $100 too.

I texted him and thanked him for the bonus $100 and asked him he had been driving too. He shared that he had never driven for Uber but I was the 10th person who he had referred so he had made $1,000 from Uber without ever driving. He started driving occasionally after we talked.

I’m still raising support for my ministry with The National Network of Youth Ministries but occasionally drive because every little bit of extra money helps. I’m a night owl so it’s easy to stay up late and make a little money when I’d either be asleep, reading or watching a movie.

Driving for Uber requires a four door car that is under ten years old and doesn’t have any cracks in the windows and car insurance.

After the fifth trip, you get a $100 bonus and I get $100 when you use this link to sign up with Uber.

It’ll probably be a sidebar in their September/October “Hard Times” issue.

It’s titled “Seven Truths to Remember Before and During Hard Times”

Here’s part of it that I posted on Facebook, while I was writing it.

“Knowing examples from the Bible of God’s faithfulness is our foundation but it’s important to also remember that it’s not only a theological check list.

It’s not merely the abstract that gives us hope but also when we remember our personal Ebenezers. When we do that, we can more likely appropriate the fact that the God who has been faithful before in our own lives will be faithful again, it just might not look like what we expect, and that’s okay”

It’s good to be writing again. Good meaning, excruciating and an ordeal to get the right words out that share truth from my story without me being the focus of the story. This one is very satisfying because I know my friend of many years, Tim Baker, will do his editorial wizardry and make it better.

Had to send in a new bio, so I went with this:

@Len_Evans oversees Texas and New Mexico for the National Network of Youth Ministries. He provides encouragement and pastoral care for youth workers via @YMOasis and randomly blogs at LenEvans.net

Now to try and write a few more blog posts before it get’s published so it’s not so random. :-)

In our world of social media, everyone has a voice and some people think they have the best voice and everyone needs to hear from them.

Being able to share what you think gives the feeling that your opinion matters because people might interact with it and some may even agree.

Unless others validate you’re an expert, you’re probably not. And even if a lot of people say you are, that still does not make it true because they might all be idiots.

Just because you can say something or share information about someone else doesn’t mean you should.

If you think you’re an expert, here’s a test, you can take.

Do people ask you what you think about something or a particular subject or field? If not regularly, you’re probably not an expert.

It’s great that you can share your experience and thoughts but if you really want it to be listened to and seriously considered, share it with someone who knows you and cares to hear your perspective.

Like the old saying goes, “People don’t care what you know until they know that you care.”

Care and love others more today than you did yesterday and you can become an expert in what matters most, loving others unconditionally.
