Five years ago, Vivo introduced OriginOS, its next-generation OS that was set to replace FuntouchOS — and it did, but only in China. So far. As you may have heard, OriginOS is going global.

This is happening with the newly introduced version 6, which is based on Android 16. Check out our overview of what’s new in OriginOS 6.

Vivo’s new OriginOS 6

The new OS version will debut with the Vivo X300 and X300 Pro, although we don’t yet have details on when these might launch globally. If you’re curious, you can check out our hands-on reviews of both phones.

Other models set to receive OriginOS 6 are the Vivo X Fold5, Vivo X200 series apart from the iQOO 13 and iQOO Neo10 series. It will begin next month and extend until 2026 as the company updates older and older models.

The new version focuses on a buttery smooth experience. This app speeds up call-start times and data loading, as well as improves frame rate stability. It features a brand new animation engine with multiple animation styles tied to the new design language for the user interface.

OriginOS 6 has a dedicated Smooth Engine

Speaking of design, the new Origin Design system looks to unify visual elements on the screen. Transparency and blur are key elements and there is a special new font. Vivo Sans supports over 40 languages and has a fully adjustable weight for better readability.

OriginOS 6 brings a new design and a special new font

Origin Island integrates with a new Android 16 feature called Live Updates. It can remain visible at the top of the screen and provide quick access to context-relevant actions, for example Copy & Go will copy a phone number and let you call or message that number directly, while Drag & Go will let you make quick edits to an image without leaving the app you’re currently using.

Vivo AI also plays an important role in the new UI. Vivo teamed up with Google to integrate the Gemini chatbot and Circle to Search feature. Again, check out our What’s New article for more detailed information.

<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-originos-6-is-going-global/popup/gsmarena_007.jpg");return false" href="#">

live ai

Vivo will start rolling out OriginOS 6 in November, you can find a detailed timeline in our What’s New post. Note that this will happen in phases – meaning some markets will get it before others.

Vivo announced the X300 series smartphones in China earlier this week and we got a chance to take a quick look at the X300 and The review units are headed to the office for some of our more standardized testing, but in the meantime we thought we’d touch on one of the company’s other major developments this year – OriginOS 6 going global.

Until now, Vivo smartphones targeted for its domestic market were only running OriginOS, while international smartphones were on a separate software branch called FuntouchOS. We’ve often been critical of the Funtouch due to its somewhat dated look and feel, and importing a phone with an otherwise superior Origin means dealing with China-specific pre-installed apps, some limitations with payment/banking software, and other often unexpected hurdles. Well, Vivo is killing it and OriginOS will now be the UI to run all future models – Chinese and global.

original island

This new version that marks the convergence of the two software branches is v.6 – Vivo could have done like Apple and gone with a year label, or changed things up with the digits somehow to mark the occasion, but instead they decided to enhance the OriginOS 5 that is available in China. Works for us.

new control center style

While the new This is a meaningful evolution from the OriginOS 5 we previously saw on Chinese Vivos (another X200 Pro and the existing

Vivo marketing materials promise that OriginOS is ‘redefining the way people experience the digital world’ and mention esoteric concepts like balance, clarity, comfort and what not. He also outlined how they have essentially re-engineered Android to make better use of resources and improve speed and battery life.

lockscreen flip card

It has ultra-core computing that allocates resources to processes according to Vivo, which is way better than Android, achieving up to 18.5% faster app cold starts and 10.5% more stable frame rates while scrolling. Memory Fusion accelerates loading speeds in heavy-load scenarios – the example Vivo gives shows a 106% speed boost in opening a 5,000-image photo album that now loads in seconds. 47 apps can be kept alive even in the background. Next is the Dual Rendering Architecture, which will give you up to 35% increased animation rendering efficiency and up to 11% improved frame rate stability.

more native islands

We have no doubt that there is a layer of truth behind all this, it’s just that they are talking about something that is difficult to measure outside of very specific laboratory conditions. Needless to mention it all sounds like that retro encapsulation if you know what we mean.

Moving on to some more tangible – or, rather, visible – reforms. Vivo has put extra effort into OriginOS’s animations, making them feel more responsive thanks to effects like bounciness, blurred transitions, and mirroring user gesture velocity. It’s hard to put your finger on it, but the phone feels very natural in the way it reacts to your inputs – much more than what FuntouchOS 15 will give you.

Private space is hidden behind swipe left on the dock

Vivo is also big on smoothness with this update and claims an increase in touch response speed of 41% – 26% better than competitors! (We don’t know what they’re measuring or how, obviously.) Either way, they promise a “seamless as new” experience for the flagship models for 5 years. The one-year-old X200 Pro certainly feels as good as new.

<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-origin-os-6-global-hands-on/sshots/-1080/gsmarena_034.jpg"); return false" href="#">

OriginOS 6

OriginOS 6 brings improved Origin visuals to the international Vivo, which until now was forced to use a pretty dated Funtouch UI. That means an improved Settings menu, a more contemporary notification shade/Control Center implementation, a customized font, and at least 2800 redesigned icons.

<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-origin-os-6-global-hands-on/sshots/-1080/gsmarena_001.jpg"); return false" href="#">

• Lockscreen • Homescreen • Large folders

Control Center is probably one of the bigger changes if you’re coming from Funtouch, and it’s one of the most obvious vehicles for the new blur effects and changes (Gradient Blur they call it). Perhaps the quick settings ‘rim light’ (button border effect) is a bit like the iOS 26 design, but let’s assume the designers got there independently and it’s all right where UI trends are going.

<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-origin-os-6-global-hands-on/sshots/-1080/gsmarena_004.jpg"); return false" href="#">

Notifications • Quick Settings

Flip Card is an OriginOS 6 lockscreen feature, where you can select up to 4 images from the gallery and alternate between them when you tilt the phone to one side – it’s probably nicer than just a single lockscreen wallpaper. What’s really cool is how the clock smoothly changes back and forth between its AOD size and lockscreen position.

<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-origin-os-6-global-hands-on/sshots/-1080/gsmarena_007.jpg"); return false" href="#">

turn the card

Origin Island is familiar to those who have seen recent OriginOS iterations, but completely new to former FuntouchOS users. The dynamic black cloud around your front camera shows relevant status information for clocks and music players and more, and also turns into an actionable area for you to drop content into in some copy-and-paste scenarios.

Of course, it has a range of AI-based features. An AI writing tool can help with your writer’s block and provide proofreading, summarizing, and more. AI Caption is a system-level application for speech-to-text conversion and real-time transcription and translation. It also has a document editor with PDF and Word document support and its own set of AI smarts.

There is now a Vivo Connection Center, which is a sort of OriginOS 6 hub to enable various connectivity options on your Vivo. Link to PC is available with screen mirroring, file transfer and task handoff. You can also do one-tap transfers with other Vivos or even iPhones, though you’ll need to install Vivo’s EasyShare on the second phone — a few more taps will be required the first time you do it.

connection center

A Private Space functionality is also part of OriginOS 6 – we didn’t get it on the latest Funtouch and it wasn’t on OriginOS 5 either. This is a normally separate area where you can keep sensitive data away from prying eyes. You can even have two instances of the same social app so you can separate business from personal use.

private space

Battery life is another area where Vivo has made some progress with OriginOS 6. The company’s internal lab results report a 30mA reduction in background app consumption for most users, up to 90mA for the top 1% of heavy users. They also claim a 10-20% improvement in CPU efficiency, which extends battery life by up to 30 minutes under certain conditions (again, these are not clear metrics).

battery settings

All things considered, we are really excited about OriginOS replacing Funtouch OS for the international variants of Vivo smartphones. The previous UI was old and quite plain, while OriginOS 6 brings a lot of attractiveness and fluidity at the same time, and the additional features are also likely to be appreciated by a wider user base.

When is OriginOS 6 coming to my phone?

OriginOS will come pre-installed on future Vivo smartphones – Chinese and international smartphones. There is a broader release schedule for updating existing phones to OriginOS 6, starting with the X Fold5, X200 series and V60 series as well as the iQOO 13 early next month. The rollout will expand to the older generation X Fold3 Pro, iQOO Neo 10, Neo 10R, and Neo9 Pro) will be included in mid-December. Many more Vivo and iQOO should also get ColorOS 6 in the first half of 2026.

OriginOS 6

OriginOS 6 brings improved Origin visuals to the international Vivo, which until now was forced to use a pretty dated Funtouch UI. That means an improved Settings menu, a more contemporary notification shade/Control Center implementation, a customized font, and at least 2800 redesigned icons.

You can even have two instances of the same social app so you can separate business from personal use.

private space

<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-origin-os-6-global-hands-on/sshots/-1080/gsmarena_031.jpg"); return false" href="#">

battery settings

This year many brands have launched smartphones with Si/C batteries, enabling them to pack high-density, high-capacity batteries into smartphones without increasing the thickness. As a result, smartphones with 6,000+ mAh batteries are becoming common. Honor also launched a phone with a 7,200 mAh battery a few months ago, called the Honor GT Pro. And now, we hear that the Chinese brand is planning to launch a smartphone with a 9,000 mAh Si/C battery.

The term comes from a trusted tipster digital chat stationWho also claimed that this smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon flagship chip. However, it is unclear whether it will be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

Google’s brand new Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which went on sale last week, has been subjected to extreme durability testing. Test results suggest that the foldable may not be as durable as Google claims.

YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything subjected the Pixel 10 Pro Fold to his standard series of durability tests. While the foldable struggled in many of them, it was the bend test that ultimately axed the phone.

Although the hinge stayed strong, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold broke along the antenna lines. Last year’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold had the same weaknesses. However, what happened after the break was unexpected.

The battery of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold exploded, causing a cloud of smoke. Although the YouTuber does the same bend test on every foldable phone, this is the first time that the phone has experienced a battery explosion while bending.

It’s worth noting that this was an extreme durability test, and such a battery is highly unlikely to explode under normal use.

google pixel 10 pro fold

The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold price starts at $1,799 in the US, and in Europe it will cost you €1,899.

Vivo unveiled the X300 series yesterday, and we were there to cover the entire event.

In addition to having a quality hands-on experience with the X300 Pro and X300, we were also able to capture a ton of photos with both phones. However, we didn’t have time to take some long-range shots using the Vivo X300 Photographer Kit and the 2.35x telephoto extender lens. Today, we finally have them too, and you’ll find them further down, but first, let’s take a closer look at the actual gear here.

hands on

The photographer kit of the Vivo X300 Pro looks similar to what we used with the Vivo X200 Ultra. While the detachable lens Is Equally, by all accounts, not the case. It’s made with a slightly better design of the case and tighter tolerances around the area where you attach the additional lens, which gives it a little more stability.

The Photographer Kit is made by PGYTECH, and is a box of seven pieces. They reportedly have a kit for the regular Vivo X300, but we haven’t seen it ourselves, and the telephoto extender option is missing from the X300 camera app.

On the one hand, the Vivo

<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-x300-pro-telephoto-extender/-1200x900mw5/gsmarena_001.jpg");return false" href="#">
<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-x300-pro-telephoto-extender/-1200x900mw5/gsmarena_002.jpg");return false" href="#">

Unboxing the X300 Pro Photographer Kit

The Grip slides onto the case and connects to the phone via a USB-C port, which can be used to charge a phone via the Grip’s own port or to charge the Grip itself (it has a 2300mAh battery inside). There is also a wireless connection between the phone and the grip via Bluetooth, which is used for camera operations.

Controls-wise, you get a two-stage shutter button, a zoom lever around it, a control dial, and a video record button.

Once you enable the telephoto extender in the camera settings, you get some additional options that you can control. For example, pressing the shutter may trigger one shot or a burst series. You can lock focus and exposure with a half-press action of the shutter, or it can operate in continuous AF-C focus mode.

The zoom level around the shutter moves smoothly between the entire focal range instead of jumping only between the optical focal lengths of the Vivo X300 Pro.

<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-x300-pro-telephoto-extender/-1200x900mw5/gsmarena_003.jpg");return false" href="#">
<a onclick="javascript:ShowImg2("news/25/10/vivo-x300-pro-telephoto-extender/-1200x900mw5/gsmarena_004.jpg");return false" href="#">

grasp

To screw on additional lenses, you must first attach the special adapter ring. You can keep the adapter there all the time as it does not interfere with the regular operation of any camera.

Once you’ve turned on the telephoto extender, you’ll need to activate it from a shortcut in the camera viewfinder, which is different from the X200 Ultra, where you’ll have to enter a separate camera mode. Still, the principle of operation is largely the same – you activate use of the extender when needed and deactivate it accordingly when it’s not on camera.

The 2.35x teleconverter takes the Vivo X300 Pro’s 85mm camera optically to 200mm. You also get 400mm, 800mm, and 1,600mm toggles in the viewfinder, but they’re digital. The samples you see below are all taken at the original 200mm.

Price determination

Individually, the lens is CNY 999 (€120, INR 12,400), the case and grip are CNY 699 (€85, INR 8,700), but you can bundle them together for CNY 1,499 (€182, INR 18,700), saving CNY 200. Vivo will also sell you the Photographer Kit with the Vivo X300 Pro for CNY. ₹8,299 (€1,000, INR 103,600). We don’t have any information on pricing outside of China, as the phones have not yet launched outside their home market, although there are some indications that it will be soon.

It’s worth noting that for the X300 Pro, PGYTECH has come up with the standard black and gray colors as well as an alternative, lighter color version. For this, you can also take matching silver colored lenses.

Apple raised the monthly price of its video streaming service three times in three years — yet, the number of subscribers is growing faster than we anticipated.

It was rumored to have 45 million subscribers. However, Apple Services SVP Eddy Cue appeared on a Hollywood-focused podcast City And said the actual customer number is “much higher than that”. However, Q declined to give any specific numbers.

based on numbers from flickspatrolThe rumored 45 million count may have put the newly named Apple TV service up a bit of peacock 41 million. For what it’s worth, the estimated number on this chart is only 30 million, so the numbers may be well off the mark.

Top Video Streaming Services, by Data flickspatrol

Growing a video subscription service isn’t easy at the best of times, but Apple has it harder than others. Netflix had a big head start, while other streaming services are tied to big Hollywood studios with large libraries of existing content. Apple had to start from scratch.

The global pandemic and the writers’ strike also did not help matters. Here’s what Q had to say:

“Look, it’s harder than it looks,” he said of building a subscriber base with original shows and movies and without a legacy library of content: “I didn’t anticipate being out of production for a year and a half, I didn’t anticipate a nine-month strike from that standpoint, so we were a little behind where we wanted to be. But where we are today is great.”

We say new because Motorola already used the moniker for the Moto G100 (2021) almost four years ago, but the new version comes with some notable upgrades.

The largest of these is the battery, which is 7,000 mAh and supports 30W charging. You get a newer, though still two-year-old, Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

It features a 6.72-inch IPS LCD with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate on the front. It is paired with a 32MP selfie shooter while at the back there is a 50MP main camera along with an 8MP ultrawide lens. The phone boots Android 15 and features IP64 ingress protection

These specs are similar to those of the recently leaked Moto G36, which could ultimately be the international version of the new Moto G100.
