officers was left in critical condition after falling 30 feet down an open shaft in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles on Thursday night. Police were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle when the suspect got out and ran through a construction site on the 1800 block of Sichel Street shortly after 9:30 p.m. and fell down the shaft, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed Friday morning.

Los Angeles firefighters and search and rescue crews were sent to the construction site after receiving a confined space rescue call. The crews set up lights and positioned an aerial ladder truck to serve as an anchor point for a rope rescue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Around 10:45 p.m., wristlets were lowered into the 4-foot-wide vertical shaft. Rescuers directed the patient to place them on his wrists and then lifted him from the shaft by rope, the fire department said.

KTLA-TV CW 5 Los Angeles

The post Firefighters rescue critically injured suspect that fell down 30-foot shaft in Los Angeles appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">456120</post-id>

Umatilla County firefighters stop spread of structure fire near Hermiston

Eleanor Christopher

Washington Fire News

Washington

Firefighters were able to put out a fire that gutted a metal building in rural Umatilla County before it spread to other structures on Thursday morning.

The post Umatilla County firefighters stop spread of structure fire near Hermiston appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

Firefighters were able to put out a fire that gutted a metal building in rural Umatilla County before it spread to other structures on Thursday morning.

According to Umatilla County Fire District 1, at about 10:57 a.m. on November 6, firefighters were called out to a reported structure fire on Theater Lane in Hermiston. Firefighters said they arrived to find a metal building burning with significant smoke and fire. Firefighters said water tenders were dispatched to supply water because of the rural location of the fire.

UCFD1 officials said firefighters had the fire contained within 10 minutes, before it could spread to other buildings. Firefighters said no injuries were reported in the fire. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Apple Valley News Now

The post Umatilla County firefighters stop spread of structure fire near Hermiston appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">454679</post-id>

Lewiston Fire Department to Conduct Live Fire Training

dlini

Idaho Fire News

Idaho

The Lewiston Fire Department will be conducting live fire shift training exercises on November 10, 11, and 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 805 Stewart Avenue.

The post Lewiston Fire Department to Conduct Live Fire Training appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

The Lewiston Fire Department will be conducting live fire shift training exercises on November 10, 11, and 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 805 Stewart Avenue. Over the past three months, department personnel have used this structure for simulated rescue scenarios, tactical and strategic deployment drills, and other fireground readiness training. These upcoming full-scale live fire simulations will provide firefighters with valuable opportunities to practice, evaluate, and refine firefighting techniques under realistic conditions. Additional training components will include civilian rescue, firefighter rescue operations, and chainsaw use training.

Following these training burns, crews will prepare the structure for a final controlled burn scheduled for November 20, beginning at approximately 9:00 am. Fire department personnel will remain on-site throughout the event until it is deemed safe to clear. All training activities are conducted in accordance with NFPA 1403: Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions. Advance notification letters have been distributed to approximately 300 residents in the surrounding area.

These exercises will involve participation and support from multiple agencies, including: Lewiston Dispatch Center, Lewiston Fire Department, Clarkston Fire Department,
Asotin County Fire District, Wheatland Fire Department, and City of Asotin Fire Department. Additionally, Lewis-Clark State College Fire Science students participated in training activities at the site during October, gaining valuable hands-on experience in a controlled learning environment.

Big Country News

The post Lewiston Fire Department to Conduct Live Fire Training appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">455254</post-id>

Star’s new fire station remains empty as funding levy fails for fourth time

dlini

Idaho Fire News

Idaho

VIDEO: A brand new fire station in Star will keep sitting empty as funding requests failed in Tuesday's election for a fourth time, leaving fire leaders in Star and Middleton to face a tough reality.

The post Star’s new fire station remains empty as funding levy fails for fourth time appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

VIDEO: A brand new fire station in Star will keep sitting empty as funding requests failed in Tuesday’s election for a fourth time, leaving fire leaders in Star and Middleton to face a tough reality. Star neighbor, Martin Johnson, has lived in Star for six years and even spent time as a volunteer firefighter. With developments in the city continuing to expand North, he agrees with local fire leaders that there’s a need for additional resources.

“We need fire protection. It’s gonna be coming to a house near you, maybe your own,” Johnson said. Johnson emphasized the seasonal fire risks facing the community. “We need more fire protection, especially late summer with grass fires and brush fires,” Johnson said.

Despite the wildfire danger, voters in Star and Middleton rejected both fire district levies. Tuesday’s election marks the fourth time the requests have failed. The 2 measures, each calling for $2,225,000 annually, would have paid firefighter wages to staff Star’s new Station 55, which is already built but still empty.

KIVI-TV ABC 6 Nampa

The post Star’s new fire station remains empty as funding levy fails for fourth time appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">449916</post-id>

Videos show massive fire that left Miami Heat coach’s home heavily damaged

Lori Warner

National

Videos show crews battling a massive fire at a home owned Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra in Miami-Dade, Florida, on Thursday morning. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said they were called to a fire at around 4:36 a.m. at the single-family residence in the area of Davis Road and Ponce De Leon Road.

Property records show that the 5,772-square-foot home belongs to Spoelstra, and was last purchased in 2023 for $6 million. It features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a pool and a basketball court. Once firefighters arrived, they found “two structures on the property fully involved” in fire, with flames “as tall as the trees,” and called for back up. Twenty units of over 100 firefighters, including a hazardous materials team, responded, Battalion Chief Victoria Byrd said.

Spoelstra, who had been with the Heat in Denver to take on the Nuggets Wednesday night, was seen outside the home as crews worked to extinguish the flames. Authorities said they switched to a “defensive attack” when the roof partially collapsed, meaning firefighters worked to put out the fire from the outside.

WTVJ-TV NBC 6 Miami

The post Videos show massive fire that left Miami Heat coach’s home heavily damaged appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">455981</post-id>

Lebanon Fire District names John Tacy as new fire chief

Lori Warner

Oregon Fire News

Oregon

The Lebanon Fire District has announced significant leadership changes as Fire Chief Joseph Rodondi prepares to retire.

The post Lebanon Fire District names John Tacy as new fire chief appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

The Lebanon Fire District has announced significant leadership changes as Fire Chief Joseph Rodondi prepares to retire. Division Chief John Tacy will step up as the new Fire Chief, and Division Chief of Training Mark Fitzwater will be promoted to Division Chief of Operations. According to the Lebanon Fire District, these promotions align with Chief Rodondi’s vision of nurturing leadership from within the organization.

Chief Tacy, who began his fire service career as a volunteer with the Lacomb Fire District, has served the Lebanon Fire District since 1985. He has held nearly every operational role within the District. “I am just happy to serve in any capacity in the community I grew up in and love,” Tacy said. Tacy plans to focus on enhancing the District’s emergency medical services and readiness.

KEZI-TV ABC 9 Eugene

The post Lebanon Fire District names John Tacy as new fire chief appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">455089</post-id>

State and local leaders highlight growing wildfire threat in Central Oregon

Lori Warner

Oregon Fire News

Oregon

Local and state leaders say wildfire seasons are lasting longer across Central Oregon, and the threat is only growing.

The post State and local leaders highlight growing wildfire threat in Central Oregon appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

Local and state leaders say wildfire seasons are lasting longer across Central Oregon, and the threat is only growing. On Thursday, officials met in Bend to discuss how to better protect homes and communities from increasingly severe fire seasons. Bend Mayor Melanie Kebler reflected on how much conditions have changed. “When I grew up, I can’t remember a time where there was enough smoke that I couldn’t play outside for days at a time,” Kebler said.

Leaders pointed to the more than 23,000-acre Flat Fire near Sisters as a reminder of how fast wildfires can spread into nearby neighborhoods. Kebler said cooperation among agencies helped keep that fire from spreading even further. “It was an incredible collaboration effort between the state to fight the fire, but also really good work on mitigation,” Kebler said.

KTVZ-TV NBC/CW+ 21 Bend

The post State and local leaders highlight growing wildfire threat in Central Oregon appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">454904</post-id>

Fire guts longtime Inland Empire eatery

Lori Warner

California Fire News

California

A former restaurant that stood for 40 years as a gathering spot for hungry Inland Empire residents was gutted by an early morning fire on Wednesday.

The post Fire guts longtime Inland Empire eatery appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

A former restaurant that stood for 40 years as a gathering spot for hungry Inland Empire residents was gutted by an early morning fire on Wednesday. Firefighters were dispatched to the blaze at the former Hunny’s Cafe on the 400 block of Corona Mall around 6:30 a.m. Heavy flames were coming from the now-vacant building, prompting crews to fight the fire from the exterior and upgrade the call to a second alarm, the Corona Fire Department said.

Firefighters eventually pushed their way inside the building, allowing them to attack from the interior and search for any possible victims. Fortunately, the fire department reported that no one was found inside. It took a little over an hour to bring the fire under control, with no extension to the surrounding buildings.

The one-time popular cafe closed last year, prompting a tribute from Riverside County Supervisor Karen Spiegel, who said her family was among the first and the last to dine at the restaurant. Hunny’s was known in the community for its family-friendly atmosphere and hearty portions. It was unclear why the small chain of family-style restaurants closed the Corona location, but a Hunny’s Cafe is still open and operating in Lake Elsinore.

KTLA-TV CW 5 Los Angeles

The post Fire guts longtime Inland Empire eatery appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">449371</post-id>

Ryan Hoenke fills new deputy warden role for Custer County Fire Department

Lori Warner

Montana Fire News

Montana

Ryan Hoenke will step into a newly created role as Deputy Fire Warden with the Custer County Volunteer Fire Department.

The post Ryan Hoenke fills new deputy warden role for Custer County Fire Department appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

Ryan Hoenke will step into a newly created role as Deputy Fire Warden with the Custer County Volunteer Fire Department, helping shoulder some of the leadership responsibilities. The position was created following a May request from County Fire Warden Cory Cheguis, who noted he’s been carrying a heavy workload largely by himself as head of the department, which has also presented issues finding a sustainable work-life balance.

Hoenke, a multi-year veteran of the department, has also seen how much Cheguis has on his plate, saying it is what led him to apply for the new role, as he aims to help lighten the workload while also being more involved with the various programs the department manages.

Reflecting on his previous experience, he feels he is especially capable to fulfill this role. Prior to joining the CCVFD, Hoenke previously worked in wildland fire fighting for both the Bureau of Land Management and Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, regular partners of the county fire department whenever they plan community engagement opportunities. He’s also worked with other county-level fire departments, such as the Dawson County Rural Volunteer Fire Department.

Miles City Star – Metered Site

The post Ryan Hoenke fills new deputy warden role for Custer County Fire Department appeared first on Daily Dispatch.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">454113</post-id>

If you would like to create a banner that links to this page (i.e. this validation result), do the following:
