72.
VIDEO: Two Rockingham County Fire and Rescue buildings continue progress on construction. In June of 2024, the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors approved the proposal for two new stations in the county, one in Dayton and the other located in Fulks Run. Since the approval, progress has been made despite a few delays due to weather. The station located in Fulks Run is set to open first, sometime in August. “It’s come along, the building is up and moving along fairly quickly,” said Rockingham County Fire and Rescue Chief Jeremy Holloway. Holloway said a month or two after they broke ground in Fulks Run, the building in Dayton began. “Weather has not cooperated, trying to get ground work in, and we had to do some road work. to get this station up,” Holloway said. Despite the delays, the Dayton station is set to open at the beginning of 2026.

 156.
Bomb technicians were seen in downtown Salisbury after a suspicious device was reported on the 200 block of East Market Street. The Salisbury Fire Department and the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal responded around noon Monday. They say they found an item resembling a PVC pipe bomb while answering a brush fire call. Bomb technicians inspected the item and concluded it was non-hazardous and did not present any danger to the public. However, as a precaution, explosive and accelerant detection K9 units were brought in to search the area. Investigators say nothing suspicious was found, and the scene was cleared by about 2:40 p.m. No injuries were reported. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is reminding the public to practice the three R’s when a suspicious device is located: Recognize that any suspicious object should not be touched, ever. Retreat or carefully leave the area. Report the item immediately.

 184.
Augusta Technical College said Monday it’s partnering with Columbia County Fire Rescue to provide firefighters with the opportunity to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Fire and Emergency Services Occupation. This follows the announcement of a similar partnership with the Augusta Fire Department. This latest program is designed specifically for current Columbia County Fire Rescue employees, giving them access to advanced education that enhances their capabilities and strengthens the department as a whole. The five-term, 64-credit program will allow participating firefighters to achieve additional certifications, including Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Emergency Medical Technician and Advanced EMT. It will include a combination of academic instruction, hands-on training and real-world clinical experience. “This opportunity reflects our commitment to growing from within,” said Columbia County Fire Chief Jeremy Wallen.

 306.
The Virginia Fire and Emergency Service Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee invites all Virginia Fire and Emergency Service Departments/Agencies, public safety partners, and public servants to the annual Equity and Diversity Conference. This year’s theme is “Taking off the mask to uncover the path to equality.” This theme challenges each of us to move beyond surface-level conversations and confront the deeper truths necessary to create lasting change. Through bold dialogue, meaningful connection, and collaborative learning, we aim to uncover and dismantle the barriers that hinder equity within our profession and our communities. Attendees will learn to dismantle systemic biases, create inclusive workplaces, and foster equitable communities. As the premier training event for cultural awareness and inclusion in the Fire Service, this conference is a pivotal opportunity for professional growth and organizational development. Join us in making equity a tangible reality in our communities.
