35.
The Denver Broncos have ruled out inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. His Broncos’ debut will have to wait a week at least. The big news came from a report that defensive tackle Malcolm Roach suffered a grade 2 calf strain. That could keep him out for the first month of the season potentially. Not an ideal start to the season in the injury front.

 78.
 79.
When Ian St. Clair and I sat down to record Odds and Endzones the excitement of actual potential was in the air. For too long, the hype of the preseason fizzled into the reality of a struggling franchise with no direction.
Enter Shaun Payton, and bring in Bo Nix, and let George Paton cook, finding talent in the draft, and the recipe builds up to legitimate hype. (Don’t forget that sweet sweet Walmart cash).

 80.
 81.
Ian even mentioned that major media types like Rich Eisen have noted that you can’t even call Denver a dark horse this year.

 82.
 83.
There is a legitimate path to winning the division, and building on a playoff season in 2024 could look like a trip to the Super Bowl led by a 2nd year QB, a solid offensive line, and a defense that boasts the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and loads of talent.

 84.
 85.
It’s not a matter of hope. There is no reason that the Broncos shouldn’t find themselves in a position to play deep into the playoffs.

 86.
 87.
That all starts with Week 1. Taking care of business against a team like the Titans could seem like no big deal. But we all know the truth; this should be seen as a chance to make a statement.

 88.
 89.
The league, and the bookies, believe in the Broncos. Denver is an 8.5 point favorite. You want the NFL to take notice? Smack the Titans around like the struggling franchise with a rookie QB that they are.

 121.

 122.
 123.
This is a tough blow to the Broncos’ defense, a few days before their season opener vs. the Titans. While Roach is not a starter, he is a key rotational piece who specializes in stopping the run. He was a big boost to their run defense last season, but now, they will need to rely on their depth to start the season.

 124.
 125.
The Broncos did keep 7 defensive linemen on their 53-man roster, and they will need to tap into that depth here in week 1. Look for Eyioma Uwazurike and Jordan Jackson to see some more snaps along with rookie Sai’vion Jones. I would anticipate Uwazurike and Jackson to get the nods here to replace Roach due to their size and run-stopping ability. They also have nose tackle Jordan Miller on the practice squad, so we’ll see if they elevate him at all to help replace Roach.

 126.
 127.
Throughout the summer, the Broncos’ depth up and down the roster has been praised, and now, that depth will be tested, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Veteran linebacker Dre Greenlaw has not practiced the last two days, edge rusher Dondrea Tillman left yesterday’s practice with a hamstring issue, but is reportedly okay, and they will be down Roach for likely a few weeks at least.

 128.
 129.
If Greenlaw cannot play, look for Justin Strnad to get the start, with undrafted Karene Reid getting some snaps along with Levelle Bailey being elevated off the practice squad. Even if he does play, he will likely be on a pitch count. If Tillman misses any time, look for promising rookie Que Robinson to take over for him.

 159.
After a long wait, football is finally back. The Denver Broncos begin their 2025 regular season when they host the Tennessee Titans this Sunday. With that in mind, I’ll be kickstarting my annual Scouting the Enemy series for each opponent. Let’s take a deeper look at the Titans and discuss how the Broncos can achieve a win against them this weekend.

 160.
 161.
2024 Tennessee Titans Review

 162.
 163.
Last season, the Titans finished 3-14 at the bottom of the AFC South in Brian Callahan’s first season as head coach. Their offense ranked 27th in points scored and 26th in total yards. Their defense ranked 30th in points allowed but were 2nd in yards allowed. With respect to turnover ratio, they were 30th in the National Football League.

 164.
 165.
2025 Tennessee Titans Offseason Acquisitions

 166.
 167.
Being the worst team in the NFL has its perks. The Titans secured the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and used it to select Miami signal caller Cam Ward. In addition to Ward, they added several other prospects I thought highly of including edge rusher Oluwafemi Oladejo, safety Kevin Winston, tight end Gunnar Helm, and wide receiver Elic Ayomanor. Like all draft classes. it might take some time to see great results, but overall, I feel they did a great job adding talent to be competitive down the road.

 168.
 169.
To help make an impact this season the Titans were quite active in free agency. Several notable free agent additions include guard Kevin Zeitler, safety Xavier Woods, edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones, offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr., linebacker Cody Barton, and veteran wide receivers Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson.

 170.
 171.
Offensive X-Factor: Quarterback Cam Ward

 172.
 173.
After sporting the worst record in the NFL in ‘24, a lot of change happened with the Titans this offseason. No bigger change came than at quarterback. The weight of the world will be on Ward’s shoulders as faces a Broncos’ defense that is poised to be one of the best in the league in ‘25. I expect Ward to struggle as most rookies do in their debuts. However, there is no doubting his talent and athleticism.

 174.
 175.
His arm strength is great, and he has the aptitude to make all the throws. Whether it was for Incarnate Word, Washington State, or Miami—he improved every collegiate season, set the bar high, and broke a lot of records. On top of that, he also can improvise and get out of the pocket. The Broncos’ defense will certainly have to account for his mobility and ability to extend plays—something they’ve had issues with over the years.

 176.
 177.
Like a lot of young quarterbacks, Ward certainly has a gunslinger’s mentality and trusts the strength of his arm. However, there were a lot of times during his collegiate career where he would lean on that a little too much and make some errant and ill-advised throws. With a fearsome defensive front seven and the best secondary in the NFL, I believe Denver will have the opportunity to generate some turnovers.

 178.
 179.

 180.

If you were looking for every Cam Ward preseason completion, here you go 😉 pic.twitter.com/c846nyLXfx
— NFL (@NFL) August 25, 2025

 181.

 182.
 183.
Defensive X-Factor: Defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons

 184.
 185.
The Broncos’ offensive line faces a big test to start the season. The Titans have some quality defenders up front. In fact, they have one of the best in the business with veteran defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons, who was one of the only bright spots on a relatively lackluster defense from last season.

 186.
 187.
Entering his seventh year in the NFL, Simmons is coming off a Pro-Bowl campaign after notching 76 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks in ’24. Whether it’s getting after the passer or defending the run, he is a formidable force in the trenches that has the ability to wreck opposing offensive gameplans due to his talent and alignment versatility.

 188.
 189.
If there was any one particular player Denver needs to account for—he would be the guy. The Broncos can’t afford to let him put a halt to their offensive plans. I’m not necessarily sure how Head Coach Sean Payton and the team’s coaching staff exactly plan to do that, but I’d wager on running to the opposite side and trying to have Bo Nix get the ball out quick to halt his prowess as a pass rusher.

 190.
 191.

 192.

Bijan Robinson the Lexus getting sideswiped by Jeffrey Simmons’ Peterbilt #Titans pic.twitter.com/0gjzDbe8mS
— Matt Waldman (@MattWaldman) October 29, 2023

 193.

 194.
 195.
How the Broncos can secure a victory over the Titans

 196.
 197.
All offseason, the Broncos’ brass and players emphasized the importance of starting off fast—especially on the offensive side of the ball. On offense, I’d love to see the Broncos try and establish the run immediately. J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey are expected to play large roles for the team’s running game this season. Last season, the Titans were one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. They gave up 134 yards a game and surrendering a 4.53 yard per carry average to opposing backs.

 198.
 199.
I’m interested to see how the Broncos’ interior offensive line matches up against nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat. At 6’4 and 366 pounds, Sweat is a lot to handle in the middle of their defense and is a great complimentary player to the aforementioned Simmons. Last season as a rookie, the second-round pick from the ‘24 NFL Draft was a sixteen-game starter for them. He will present a big challenge to Luke Wattenberg and Ben Powers on the interior, who both need to improve as run blockers in order for the team to be successful on the ground this season.

 200.
 201.
On the other side of the ball, I expect Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph to throw everything including the kitchen sink at Ward in his first career start. Joseph was one of the most aggressive coordinators last year and is known for sending an extra man to blitz—and I’d expect to see a lot of that on Sunday tailored with unique coverage shells to confuse the rookie signal caller.

 202.
 203.
If the Broncos can run the ball well, that should help with crafting a passing game that should be able to take advantage of a Titans secondary that struggled immensely last season. Woods and Armani Hooker are a quality safety duo, but their cornerback room is inexperienced and doesn’t have a lot of high-profile players. Overall, this is a game I expect the Broncos to end up winning by multiple scores.

 204.
 205.
Hart’s Prediction: Broncos 27, Titans 13.

 229.
Welcome to Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season! It has finally arrived.

 230.
 231.
The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will be hosting their NFC East division rival Dallas Cowboys to open the season. One team is close to ascending to the level of NFL dynasty, while the other just traded away one of the best players in the NFL because they didn’t want to offer a big contract. It would appear Jerry Jones plans to tank the franchise as his final act, but who knows maybe he’ll draft two Micah Parsons with those two first round picks he got from the trade. lol, doubt it.

 232.
 233.
Kickoff is set for Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 6:20 p.m. Mile High time at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and will air on NBC.

 234.
 235.
My Prediction

 236.
 237.
According to FanDuel, the Eagles are 8.5-point favorites over the visiting Cowboys. Last season, the Eagles start off the season pretty sloppy before winning 15 of their next 16 games including the playoffs. If that were to happen again in 2025, I’d still give them the edge here at home and on prime time. The crowd is going to be electric and the Cowboys likely in disarray after losing one of their core leaders and best player. A few late garbage time scores makes it closer, but give me the Eagles with a 1-0 start to the year.

 238.
 239.
Prediction: Eagles 30, Cowboys 20

 265.
The NFL regular season kicks off tonight, while the Denver Broncos continue to prepare for their Sunday matchup at home against the Tennessee Titans. A couple of new additions to the injury report today is a bit of concern for Denver heading into the end of the week, while inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw continues to be a non-participant in practice.

 266.
 267.
Defensive tackle Malcolm Road appears to have a calf issue that caused him to be limited in practice. Dondrea Tillman also was limited by a hamstring. Those soft tissue issues can be annoyingly nagging as we have seen from Greenlaw’s quad injury. These are a bit of a concern and worth monitoring, but the team is mostly healthy heading into Week 1. The Titans had one of their guys progress to a full participant today, but other than that no changes on their end.

 305.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos and edge rusher Nik Bonitto have reached an agreement on a four-year extension that is worth up to $120 million dollars and includes $70 million dollars in guaranteed money. The Broncos’ star pass rusher was entering the final year of his rookie deal, and GM George Paton and the rest of the Broncos front office made sure he would be around for the foreseeable future.

 306.
 307.
9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis confirms the deal and provides some added insight. It’s a four-year deal, worth $106 million, but he can earn up to $120 million with incentives. He is scheduled to make $5,35 million this season and will still get that along with whatever signing bonus he is receiving.

 308.
 309.

 310.

Another deal in Denver: Nik Bonitto and the Broncos reached agreement today on a four-year extension worth up to $120 million, including $70 million guaranteed. Bonitto is now the highest paid non-qb in Broncos’ franchise history in a deal negotiated by @ToryDandy of… pic.twitter.com/cvssg9jzbg
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 4, 2025

 311.

 312.
 313.
Bonitto and the Broncos signing an extension always seemed like a matter of when, not if. Unlike the Micah Parsons situation, the two sides were confident something would get done. Bonitto showed up and participated throughout camp without issues, dominating in the one preseason game he played in, and will now enter the season freshly signed and worry-free.

 314.
 315.
Good luck, Cam Ward.

 316.
 317.
The former second-round pick by the Broncos had a breakout year for the team last season and was a big part of their top-ranked defense. He finished the year with 13.5 sacks and has 2 game-changing INT/Fumble recoveries for a touchdown late in the year. Bonitto would go on to be named 2nd team All-Pro by the Associated Press, was named to the Pro Bowl, and while teammate CB Pat Surtain II won the AP Defensive Player of the Year Award, Bonitto made a strong case for that, too.

 318.
 319.
Expectations are high for the Broncos and their defense this season, and Bonitto is their top pass rusher on the team. He dominated last season, looked explosive during the preseason, and now that he has signed his deal, he can be worry-free heading into week one against a rookie quarterback making his first-career start.

 320.
 321.
I would anticipate Bonitto to come close, match, or even exceed his sack total from last season and lead the Broncos’ top-ranked pass rush in sacks once again. He is just as important to this defense as Pat Surtain II, and hopefully, these two can help lead the Broncos on a deep postseason run this season.

 322.
 323.
One last thing before we finish this. We need to be thankful for the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group. Since they have bought the Broncos, they have handed out extensions to Nik Bonitto, Pat Surtain II, Quinn Meinerz, Courtland Sutton, Jonathon Cooper, Garett Bolles, and D.J. Jones while also being very active in free agency. They have locked up a talented core for the Broncos, added key free agents, and Sean Payton and George Paton have drafted very well recently.

 324.
 325.
The future is bright in Denver.

Broncos Country is going to be fired up for this game, so the Broncos need to match that. Knock the Titans on their heels from the jump. We’ll see how their revamped linebacker corps looks, but this appears to be a front seven that can be run on, especially to the outside, if Payton and company commit to it. — Taylor Kothe

 442.
Like Ian said, starting off fast is huge. A big way to accomplish that would be the offensive line performing well. Whether it’s trying to establish the run with J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey or pass protect for Bo Nix, Denver’s offensive line needs to perform at a high level. T’Vondre Sweat and Jeffrey Simmons will be formidable foes, and it will be critical for Denver’s players, especially on the interior, to take care of business. — Christoher Hart

What I’d like to see, specifically, is Sean Payton calling a variety of Inside Zone variations (slice, wham, singleback, gun, fake orbit, etc.) early and often. I want to get those double teams working and that interior offensive line firing off the ball ASAP. Get those guys in a rhythm (particularly Ben Powers and Luke Wattenberg) and get the Tennessee DTs on their heels. — Ross Allen
