With heavy regulation from the Environmental Protection Agency, professional dry cleaners are pursuing the use of a safer chemical--liquid carbon dioxide, which is a green alternative to washing clothes. In addition, exposure to carbon dioxide is not associated with any health side consequences. The only drawbacks to dry cleaning with CO2 are that it isn't able to cleanse as effectively as perc can and the equipment used to make it is very expensive so the higher cost is passed onto the consumer.</p><p> <br/></p><p> An environmental virtue is moderateness. This being said, green dry cleaning can be accomplished if you do not dry clean at all or limit your use of dry cleaning services by using dry cleaning kits that you can use at home for items with less visible spots and stained areas or that need to be cleaned. Professional dry cleaning is a massive process that uses a lot of energy, and generates a lot of waste that is in form of residue, sludge and wastewater. If the dry cleaner is using perc (it is still allowed in many states) These substances pose a risk. Dry cleaning at home requires nothing more than just a Dry Cleaner's Secret cleaning cloth and your dryer.
