For the most part, animation is not an expensive craft to pursue but it does come with some fairly pricey overheads when you’re first getting started out. If you’re in animation school, chances are you’ve got access to all of the equipment and software you could possibly need. But if you’re interested in kitting out your home setup with animation software, the price tag can quickly rack up. Luckily, there are some free alternatives which are good enough to see you through the majority of animation projects you’ll undertake. Presenting… Pencil OS: Mac, Windows, Linux Although it looks simple from the clean interface, it is packed with all the main tools you’ll find in some of the Pencil’s paid counterparts. It supports both vector and bitmap images, multiple layers and has its own in-built illustration tools (so you can either import graphics or create them right there and then before animating them). Pencil also exports to .FLV, which is something of a bonus. S ynfig Studios OS: Mac, Windows, Linux Right up there with Pencil, Synfig is very similar in design but arguably comes with a steeper learning curve; reason being, it throws in even more advanced features, and the results which can be achieved once you master them border on the professional level. Stykz Given the above two open-source suites which offer an impressive level functionality, why are we featuring a simple stickman animation tool? Simply put, Stykz has got a lot of use for anyone who likes to draft things out before getting down to fully-fledged artwork and animating. It’s completely free with no strings attached, works on any platform and can produce fluid .GIFs incredibly quickly (which will no doubt lead on to bigger things). One particularly neat feature is that it also integrates with Pivot, another node-based (and free) animation tool. CreaToon OS: Windows An entry-level animation program, CreaToon is cut-out based (all graphics are imported) that takes a lot of the headache out of creating cartoon-esque animation. While it isn’t quite as polished as some of the other names on this list, the real-time editing, auto in-frame filling and versatile file format support are real pulls.

Jetpacks with rigid wings. Gloves that can adhere to any surface and support your body weight. Advertisements that feature your face when you walk by. The campaign in Call of Duty: Black Ops II has some interesting ideas about the future of technology, but what about the future of this massively popular shooter series? On the one hand, Black Ops II introduces new mission types and dramatic decision points that liven up the campaign, as well as a league play option that represents a fundamental shift in the franchise's hallowed multiplayer mode. On the other hand, the campaign hits the same satisfying rhythms, the multiplayer captures the same frenetic intensity, and the cooperative zombies mode delivers the same stale undead-massacring action. Caught between striving for the future and remaining rooted in the past, Black Ops II finds solid footing, providing another great ride on the Call of Duty rollercoaster. The ride starts off a bit rough as Black Ops II makes good on its pre-campaign warning of graphic content. Two early scenes linger on people burning alive, and while one ends up contributing to character development, the other is just gratuitous. Later cutscenes don't flinch from depicting gory violence, though of all the unpleasant sights you see throughout the story, the playful (and not at all gory) post-credits video might be the most appalling. Fortunately, the campaign boasts an engaging story and a lot of entertaining action. It features the lead characters from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, and though it references events from the past, a clear narrative thread emerges that is easy to follow. You jump between two time periods: the present, which is the year 2025, and the past, which spans about a decade during the Cold War. The narrative reflections of the elderly Frank Woods (a protagonist from Black Ops) weave these two timelines together, but the character that truly drives the story is the villain, Raul Menendez. During the Cold War missions, you follow Menendez's origin story and rise to power. In the 2025 missions, you desperately try to avert his catastrophic master plan. This parallel character development is deftly handled, infusing your missions with undercurrents of curiosity and urgency. Things get even more intense when you are asked to make a choice. Press one button to kill a target, the other to let him live. The conditions of each choice vary and there are only a few of them, but even when you aren't responding to a prompt, you might be making a choice in a dramatic moment that will have consequences later. The main course of the campaign remains constant, but these decisions do affect the fate of some key characters. A few of these moments are sure to give you pause, adding some welcome weight to the proceedings. Once you've seen the story through, there's a handy rewind feature that lets you play earlier levels in order to see how different paths play out. There are also mission-specific challenges that give you ancillary goals to complete while you do so, further increasing the replay incentive.

When this happens, it means that, even though your sensor has power, it's not being recognized by your console. Note If you see the "Kinect is unplugged" message and your sensor's power LED is not on, you're having an issue with your sensor not powering on. For help with troubleshooting that issue, see Your Xbox One Kinect Sensor won't turn on. To resolve this problem, try the following solutions. If a solution doesn't work, go to the next solution. Solution 1: Confirm that the Kinect sensor is firmly connected via cable to the Xbox One console At the back of the console, unplug the cable from the Kinect sensor port.

There’s nothing quite like the feel of a realistic steering wheel when you’re playing a racing game. Sure, you can use a controller (even the wonderful DualShock 4) to control the on-screen action, but the subtlety of control and immersion-factor of an actual wheel cannot be surpassed if you’re really into racing. Given the PS4’s relatively new status on the console scene, you might think that there aren’t that many options available for the serious Sony racing fan. In short, the options are rather sparse at the moment, nevertheless, there are some great options out there for those who want to take their simulation to the next level. Here are some of the best steering wheels that all PlayStation 4 gamers with an interest in driving titles should check out as quickly as possible… In terms of features and licensing, Thrustmaster’s T80 Driveclub edition racing wheel is more or less (currently) at the top of the heap if we’re talking about the PS4. As its name clearly implies, this control device is meant to work in tandem with the upcoming release of the game “Driveclub” which is set to hit store shelves in October. Of course it’s not without its faults; for example, it doesn’t currently provide support for Need for Speed: Rivals. Whether or not that makes a difference, the unit is certainly of excellent quality and will most definitely support many of the upcoming releases headed our way. Of course you can always use it with your various PS3 racing games in the mean time. In terms of features, the T80 wheel incorporates linear resistance as well as auto-centering, both of which help to ultimately increase driver control. The unit also comes with a clamping system which you can use to attach it to virtually any solid surface, like a desk. It’s also a comfortable-feeling device, with a rubber coating that helps to maintain control, even in tense, sweaty situations. In terms of controls, the T80 has no less than 11 buttons as well as a directional pad and of course the two large pedals for floor control. Speaking of which, there’s excellent detailed control with the floor unit, which is a must for precision-based driving. Furthermore, if you’re the type of racer who prefers manual shifting, there’s even a system for that built into the wheel itself.

In this blog post, we’ll walk you through how to build an Android group chat application with a number of different core chat features. We’ll cover how to build: Basic messaging for multi-user group chat Presence: ie. the ‘buddy list’ (live online/offline status of connected users) History: stores and retrieves messages Push notifications In the end, you’ll have something that looks like the sample image below. Check out the . Project Details Our Android group chat app allows a user to create a login identity that is then stored inSharedPreferences until logout. The initial chat room is titled MainChat, but a user can change chat rooms at any time. An integer in the menu bar indicates how many users are in the current chat room. If you click that here now number, a modal with all users in the room is displayed. Clicking on a user in the herenow modal will display the login time of the corresponding user. Clicking on a message in the chat room will send a poke to that user, notifying them that you are in the chat room. Core Chat Messaging When a user sends a message, the code creates a ChatMessage object that holds the username, message text, and timestamp for the given message. ChatMessages are then serialized into a JSONObject and published to all users on the current channel via PubNub. Next, a message is received using PubNub’s subscribe method. The JSONObject is deserialized back into a ChatMessage and added to a list of messages from the current chat room. Realtime User Online/Offline List If a user is online, a green dot is displayed next to their name. Join and Leave events are updated in realtime as well, so when a user logs off, you are notified immediately. Presence updates the number of users currently in a room, but when you want to see the users currently in the chat, hereNow is used. A modal opens and is populated with the users currently subscribed to the chat room. Clicking on a user will tell you their login time, and the modal can be dismissed by clicking done. Historic Messages To store and retrieve historic chat messages, Storage & Playback is used. When a user opens the Android group chat app and is sent to MainChat, or when a user changes rooms, a call to PubNub’s history function loads the last 100 messages from the current channel so you know what other users have been talking about when you join. Last Login The PubNub State API allows you to define state data on the current channel. You can attach an object to your UUID that is accessible to anyone on the channel. This chat app uses the state API to attach login time to all online users’ UUIDs. When a user in the here now modal is clicked, their login time is read from the state of the channel and displayed in a Toast message. Push Notifications Enable push notifications on a channel and attach your GCM device ID to that channel and you are all set to receive pushes. When you tap a user’s message in a chat room, a PubNub push notification is sent through GCM protocols to notify the user that you are waiting for them.

SLEDGEHAMMER GAMES Advanced Warfare fans who reach the top prestige are set for a treat from Sledgehammer Games The developers behind last year's top selling COD title have been keeping up the pace between DLC packs with fresh gear and weapon updates. Keeping players engaged has been the aim of the game and Sledgehammer have revealed they are set to reward fans for their hard work. The studio have revealed their plans to introduce Grand Master Prestige Appreciation Day, when they will reward players of that prestige level with a heap of loot. Players on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC will get 10 Advanced Supply Drops from October 19, leaving fans less than thirty days to achieve the rank. Sledgehammer are certainly throwing down the gauntlet, explaining that they have calculated that anyone can achieve it in the amount of time leading up to cut off say, October 18 at 9am. It is unclear if that means 9am UK time, or 9am PST. Sledgehammer started teasing the event last week by posting scrambled pictures of the Appreciation Day banner, accompanied by the caption: "Intel." Related articles Grand Master Prestige Appreciation Day on Call of Duty The full statement from the development teams explains: "Rewarding players for their accomplishments is what Call of Duty has been about since Day One, and we couldn’t be prouder of our Grand Master Prestige community in Advanced Warfare. "These players exemplify the determination and hard work that the developers at our studio live by, and we’re rolling out an extremely special program to reward them – introducing Grand Master Prestige Appreciation Day! Exactly thirty days from now on Sunday, October 18th at 9AM our team will take a snapshot of our records from all platforms (Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC) and reward all Grand Master Prestiges on those platforms with 10 Advanced Supply Drops starting on Monday, October 19th! "By our calculations, thirty days is enough time to give every player (regardless of rank/prestige) the opportunity to take part in Grand Master Prestige Appreciation Day. "Be mindful that this program is focused on rewarding legitimate GMP’s and we’re disqualifying anyone that has previously reverse boosted (after 1/17/2015), boosted (via collusion with other players, or by split screen), exploited, or tampered with their system, and players that receive a ban for one of these offenses during this 30-day time period.
