37.

The Nigerian Senate will today begin its public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution, with the first session holding in Lagos, according to Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central).

 38.
The hearing marks the start of a nationwide consultative process aimed at addressing key national concerns. Among the major issues up for debate are proposals for the creation of 18 additional local government areas, the establishment of state police, and extensive electoral reforms.

 39.
Senator Bamidele, who also chairs the South-West Zonal Constitution Review Committee, emphasized the importance of public involvement, noting that the exercise will allow citizens to contribute meaningfully to the shaping of the nation’s governance and legal structure.

 40.

“The forum provides Nigerians with a vital platform to express their views on critical issues shaping the nation’s governance framework,” Bamidele stated in a press release.

 41.
To ensure inclusive and widespread participation, the Senate has scheduled simultaneous public hearings across other geopolitical zones, with the exception of the North-West region.

 42.
The hearing for the North-West was postponed out of respect for the death of prominent Kano industrialist and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who passed away on Saturday.

 43.
The Lagos session is expected to span two days, with stakeholders from civil society, traditional institutions, political parties, legal experts, and everyday citizens expected to participate and present memoranda.

 44.
This round of hearings represents another chapter in Nigeria’s ongoing quest to strengthen democratic institutions, enhance federalism, and align the Constitution with the evolving aspirations of its people.

 61. Amaechi Accuses INEC of Sabotaging Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections

 62.
Blog Post:
63. Former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has raised serious allegations against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), claiming the commission is deliberately frustrating opposition efforts to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

 64.
Amaechi made these claims on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s political programme, Politics Today.

 65.

“Every member of the opposition who belongs to the coalition is a member of the ADC,” Amaechi stated.
66. “Are we stopping at that? The answer is no. I head a committee with the mandate of the coalition to pursue the registration of the All Democratic Alliance, ADA.”

 67.
According to him, INEC’s refusal to register the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) forced the coalition to temporarily adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political platform. He accused INEC of deliberately shutting the political space in favour of the ruling APC.

 68.

“Now, if INEC had registered ADA, we would probably not have bothered about going to the ADC. The political space is closed for the benefit of the APC. I come to say that the INEC chairman is not ashamed,” he said.

 69.
Amaechi further alleged that INEC’s leadership is intentionally stalling the registration of new political parties by using administrative excuses.

 70.

“In fact, what is holding the ADA for now is that we have yet to bring the address of our offices and the officers of the party that will submit in the next meeting.”

 71.
He also revealed that several groups seeking registration as political parties had already complied but were ignored by INEC. According to him, many of these aspiring parties have had their office rents expire while waiting for a response.

 72.

“Some of them, their rents have expired. So, the chairman of INEC is deliberately doing that so that there will be nobody fighting the APC. And they’re not even ashamed that after (Maurice) Iwu, they organised the worst election; I would be ashamed.”

 73.
Despite these obstacles, Amaechi assured that the opposition coalition under the ADC banner would continue to mobilize the Nigerian electorate and ensure credible elections in 2027.

 74.

“The coalition will mobilise Nigerians to vote and stop people from rigging elections,” he concluded.

 92.

It’s officially over between pop superstar Katy Perry and actor Orlando Bloom.

 93.
The couple, who had sparked breakup rumours in recent months, have now confirmed that their engagement has ended. In a joint statement released on July 3, the pair emphasized their continued commitment to raising their four-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, in a stable and loving environment.

 94.

“Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry’s relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting,”
95. read the statement, first published by People.

 96.
Though the relationship is over romantically, both stars stressed that their primary focus remains their daughter. The statement added:

 97.

“They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.”

 98.
The announcement comes on the heels of Orlando, 48, sharing a series of cryptic posts about “new beginnings,” “loneliness,” and “sadness” on social media — posts that many now view as subtle confirmations of the split.

 99.
Meanwhile, Katy Perry, 40, was seen holding back tears during a performance in Adelaide, Australia, marking the emotional close of that leg of her Lifetimes World Tour.

 100.
Katy Perry and Orlando began dating in 2016, and after a brief split, got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019. They welcomed Daisy Dove in August 2020. Though their romantic chapter may have ended, it’s clear both stars are committed to writing a new one — centered on co-parenting and unity.
