The pair of Lim Jong-hoon and Shin Yoo-bin, who are hoping to win a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, have been drawn to face China in the semifinals.
The draw for the <a href="https://powerball365net.webnode.kr/" title="">Paris Olympic Games</a> table tennis tournament took place on Thursday afternoon (local time) at the South Paris Arena in France.
The draw was based on the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings.
Lim Jong-hoon and Shin Yubin, who slipped to No. 3 in the mixed doubles world rankings after being upset by Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto and Hina Hayata ahead of the Olympics, had a 50 percent chance of avoiding China until the semifinals.
If they had finished second, they would have been drawn to face China in the final.
The luck of the “lane” – avoiding China until the semifinals – eluded Lim and Shin.
If they survived to the semifinals, they would be in a position to face China’s world No. 1 Wang Chuqin-Sun Yingxia.
The fourth-ranked pair of Hong Kong’s Wong Chun Ting and Du Hoi Kem were the lucky ones to make it to the Japanese side of the draw.
If Lim and Shin lose in the semifinals, they will likely face either Japan or Hong Kong for the bronze medal.
Their first opponent will be Germany’s Chiu Tang-Nina Mittelhamm (ranked 11th).
North Korea’s Ri Jung Sik-Kim Geum Young (unranked) will face Harimoto-Hayata in their first match.
The pair have not played many international tournaments and will be a tricky opponent in the first round.
Mixed doubles has been an <a href="https://totopickbiz.webnode.kr/" title="">Olympic</a> sport since the last Tokyo Games.
Mixed doubles is considered a “surprise” compared to the men’s and women’s singles and team events, which are dominated by China.
In Tokyo, Japan defeated China to win its first ever table tennis gold medal.
The Japanese will try to win their second straight title in the event with the pair of Harimoto-Hayata.
South Korea has also made mixed doubles a strategic event and has been nurturing the pair of Lim Jong-hoon and Shin Yoo-bin, with the attitude that “there’s no reason why we can’t win”.
China, whose gold medal winning streak in table tennis since Beijing 2008 came to an end in Tokyo, is going all out for the mixed doubles event, fielding Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingxia, the No. 1 ranked men’s and women’s singles pair, and assigning a specialist coach to the event.
Lim Jong-hoon and Shin Yubin were ranked No. 2 in the world before being upset by Harimoto and Hayata at the most recent World Table Tennis (WTT) Bangkok event, dropping to No. 3.
Following the mixed doubles, the draws for the men’s and women’s individual events and the men’s and women’s team events were held.
The press conference room where the draw was held was packed with more than 200 journalists and representatives of the national teams. South Korea’s men’s sabre team has moved into the <a href="https://sportstotobiz777.webnode.kr/" title="">Olympic Village</a> to begin its final preparations for a third consecutive Olympic team title.
The men’s sabre team continued training on Thursday at the training center at the Paris 2024 Olympic Village in Saint-Denis, Paris.
The team, which arrived in Paris on Tuesday as the main body of the Korean delegation, stayed at the Team Korea Paris Platform, a pre-camp organized by the Korea Sports Federation at the French National Defense Sports Center (CNSD) in Fontainebleau, about 84 kilometers from the Olympic Village, before moving to the Olympic Village on Wednesday.
At the Team Korea Paris Platform, the athletes trained on the ‘Olympic Piste’ installed at the indoor track and field center, and on the 23rd, they began their last-minute preparations at the fencing training center in the athletes’ village.
After checking their equipment at the Grand Palais, the venue of the competition, in the morning, the men’s sabre team spent two hours at the training center in the athlete’s village in the afternoon, sweating profusely.
Coach Won Woo-young worked one-on-one with Koo Bon-gil (Korea Sports Promotion Organization), Oh Sang-wook (Daejeon Metropolitan City Hall), Do Kyung-dong (Armed Forces Sports Unit), and Park Sang-won (Daejeon Metropolitan City Hall) to review their moves.
“That’s it!” said Coach Won Woo-young, who was drenched in sweat after taking on four players one after another by himself, expressing his satisfaction with their performance.
Koo Bon-gil and Oh Sang-wook showed off their skills so well that they were told that they were in too good of shape.
Following a “private lesson” with Coach Won, a gold medalist in the team event at the <a href="https://safeplayground45.webnode.kr/" title="">2012 London Olympics</a>, the athletes donned their fencing suits and faced off against each other with scoreboards lit to prepare for the individual event on the 27th and the team event on the 31st.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter and positive energy, with the eldest brother Koo Bon-gil giving tips to the younger members of the team and reminiscing about memories of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics during breaks.
The men’s sabre team will be looking to win their third consecutive gold medal in the team event after London and Tokyo (Rio de Janeiro 2016 was not included in the event rotation).
Led by ace Oh Sang-wook, they will also be hoping for an individual medal.
“I’m in good shape because I did a great job of jet lag in the pre-camp. I have been working hard on technical preparation and other training since Korea, and here I am focusing on atmosphere and mental management,” he said, adding, ”I am more excited because it is my fourth Olympics, and I will carry that feeling to the competition.”

Korea’s “golden day” at the Games is expected to be from the afternoon of Sept. 29 to the morning of Sept. 30, but the first day of the medal race from Sept. 27 to Sept. 28 will also feature a number of events in which the Koreans could make a run for gold.
With the country fielding its smallest contingent of athletes in 48 years since the 1976 Montreal Games due to a lack of success in team ball games, it will be crucial to set the tone with a medal – or better yet, a gold medal – on day one if it is to reach its target of five or more gold medals.
The biggest name to watch is men’s swimming standout Kim Woo-min (Gangwon-do).
His first event of the Games will be the men’s 400-meter freestyle.
Kim won the 400-meter freestyle at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, in February of this year, and it will be his first individual Olympic event, having only competed as part of a relay team at Tokyo 2021.
Kim’s meteoric rise over the past three years has earned him five qualification slots for the Games, and all eyes will be on him to go for the gold in the opening event of his campaign.
Fencing at the Grand Palais, one of Paris’s most famous venues, is also expected.
On the first day of fencing at the Paris Olympics, Korea will compete in individual events in the men’s sabre and women’s epee, two of its core disciplines.
Oh Sang-wook (Daejeon Metropolitan Government) and Koo Bon-gil (Korea Sports Promotion Organization) will compete in the men’s sabre, and Song Sera (Busan Metropolitan Government) and Kang Young-mi (Gwangju Seo-gu Office) will compete in the women’s epee.
In particular, Oh Sang-wook (2019) and Song Se-ra (2022), who have won the individual <a href="https://outlookindiatoto.blogspot.com/" title="">World Championships</a>, will lead the way.
The men’s sabre and women’s epee are the favorites to win the team competition, which will take place 30 days after the individual events, and a medal in the individual event will give them momentum for the team competition.
Kim Woo-min will be the first of these athletes to medal.
The men’s 400-meter freestyle final is scheduled for 3:42 a.m. ET on Aug. 28 at the La Défense swimming pool in Paris.
In fencing, the women’s epee bronze medal match will begin at 3:40 a.m., followed by the men’s sabre bronze medal match at 4:05, the women’s epee final at 4:30 and the men’s sabre final at 4:55.
Before the time changes to local time, the first good news could come from the Châteauroux shooting range, 320 kilometers from Paris, in the afternoon on Sunday.

Sibling golfers Lee Min-ji and Min-woo Lee, who have Korean parents, have teamed up to represent Australia at the <a href="https://sportstoto365com.blogspot.com/" title="">2024 Olympic Games in Paris</a>.
The siblings have made a name for themselves as golfers, with Lee playing on the LPGA Tour and her younger brother, Min Woo, on the DP World Tour and the <a href="https://totosite365pro.blogspot.com/" title="">PGA Tour</a>.
The older sister has already competed in two Olympic Games, and Paris will be her third.
Despite not winning an Olympic medal, Lee is a top-ranked player on the LPGA Tour with 10 victories to her name.
Lee, who is competing in her first Olympic Games, has three wins on the DP World Tour and one on the Asian Tour.
While her sister is far ahead of her in terms of experience, Lee has already experienced the Le Golf Nacional course that will be hosting the Paris Games last year.
Lee shot back-to-back 69s in the first and second rounds of the French Open at Le Golf Nacional last September to lead the field, but finished tied for 64th due to bad weather.
“When I played last year, it rained a lot and all the tees were moved forward,” Lee told the PGA Tour on Sept. 25, ”I’m hoping for better weather this year, but it’s a tough golf course.”
For Lee, representing his country at the Olympics has a special meaning.
“We play for Australia every week on tour, but it’s a whole different thing to play for Australia,” he said. ”My brother doesn’t really understand it now, but he’ll have to go there (Paris) and experience it for himself.”

Kia Tigers closer Jung Hai-young, the top vote-getter for the All-Star Game, will miss the midseason exhibition due to shoulder injury, his manager said Tuesday.
The Tigers put Jung on the injured list on Monday with rotator cuff tendinitis in his right shoulder. The Tigers initially held out hope that Jung would be able to appear in the All-Star Game for the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), scheduled for July 6, as he led all players by receiving about 1.39 million votes from fans.
However, Tigers manager Lee Bum-ho said Tuesday that the 22-year-old pitcher will not be able to pitch in the All-Star Game.
“Because of his shoulder problems, he will miss the All-Star Game and come back to action after the break,” Lee told reporters before the <a href="https://bit.ly/outlookindiacasino">커뮤니티</a> Tigers took on the Lotte Giants in the southeastern city of Busan. “It’s not a serious injury, though. A lot of pitchers experience this type of issues. Fortunately, he stopped pitching when he first felt some pain (on Sunday).”
Jung is the first closer to lead the All-Star Game fan voting since the KBO added the closer position in 2015.
Lee said Jung may still take part in other activities during the All-Star weekend without pitching in the game.
“I am sure he would love to pitch in the game because he earned the most votes,” Lee added. “We’ve been talking with the KBO so that even if he doesn’t appear in the game, he will still be around for the festivities.”
Jung is second in the KBO with 21 saves.

Over the first two months of his first season in Korea, left-handed pitcher Dietrich Enns went from winning his Opening Day start for the defending champions LG Twins to having his manager declaring that his job was in jeopardy.
Along the way, though, the 33-year-old American has been trying to block out distractions and focus on his own performance.
On May 28, Twins general manager Cha Myeong-seok traveled to the United States in search of a new foreign starting pitcher. Teams in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) can each have a maximum two foreign pitchers, and at that point, both Enns and his rotation mate Casey Kelly had been struggling, prompting Cha to start exploring a new option.
Through 11 starts, Enns was 4-2 with a 5.43 ERA, while Kelly, in his sixth KBO season, was 2-6 with a 5.60 ERA.
Skipper Youm Kyoung-youb told reporters on May 28 that the Twins were prepared to cut either of the two starters, but he also said the best-case scenario for the Twins was to have both pitchers bounce back, given the scarcity of quality alternatives that time of year.
Enns happened to start that same day, and he earned his fifth win of the season by holding the SSG Landers to two runs on four hits in six innings while striking out nine.
It would have been tempting to assume Enns became extra motivated after learning of Cha’s plans. However, Enns only found out about the situation during an interview after Cha’s trip.
“I don’t follow the media much. Just kind of pay attention to what I’m doing from a day-to-day basis,” Enns told Yonhap News Agency on Thursday, before the Twins hosted the Samsung Lions at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul. “I had no idea <a href="https://bit.ly/outlookindiatoto">토토</a> but I kind of mind my own business and I’m just here to do my job as best I can. And whatever the team does, that’s up to the team to decide.”
Both Enns and Kelly have pitched better in June. On Wednesday, Enns kept the Lions off the board over six innings and allowed only three hits. It was his first scoreless start since March 29, and Enns improved to 3-0 with a 3.10 ERA for June.
That start came a night after a near-perfect game by Kelly, who only allowed a ninth-inning single to the Lions in a complete game shutout.
It was a tough act for Enns to follow, and Enns said he was inspired by his teammate’s brilliant start.
“I was cheering for him the whole way, hoping that he got the perfect game. The fact that he had to settle for a complete game shutout, it’s not too bad, either,” Enns said with a smile. “I was really happy for him to go out there and pitch that well. Tickets for summer exhibition matches in Seoul involving Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur have all sold out, organizers announced Saturday.
Korean streaming service Coupang Play said tickets for two matches in the “2024 Coupang Play Series” were all snapped up after going on sale at 8 p.m. Friday on its website. Tickets were only available to paying members of Coupang WOW services.
Tottenham, captained by Korean star Son Heung-min, will first face Team K League, made up of All-Stars from the Korean league, at 8 p.m. July 31 at Seoul World Cup Stadium. Then at 8 p.m. Aug. 3 at the same Seoul venue, Spurs will face the <a href="https://bit.ly/outlookindiapowerball">스포츠</a> German giants Bayern Munich, featuring Korean defender Kim Min-jae and Son’s former Spurs teammate Harry Kane.
All three teams will each hold an open training session on the eve of their respective matches.
This will be the third edition of the Coupang Play Series, and the second trip to Korea by Tottenham. The summer exhibition series has also featured Premier League champions Manchester City, French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid.

Germany is through to the quarter finals of a major tournament for the first time in eight years, but clouds remain for Julian Nagelsmann’s Euro 2024 hosts.
The home side won 2-0 in Dortmund, coming up not only against a determined and organised Denmark, but also a 25-minute thunderstorm delay which derailed Germany’s early momentum.
In a match Nagelsmann called “bizarre” and “wild,” Germany needed a fair share of luck to get past the Danes, with two VAR reviews within a minute going in favour of the hosts.
Nagelsmann’s unforced changes to his starting XI will also come under fire, particularly the decision to replace the in-form Florian Wirtz with Leroy Sane, who had another frustrating night.
Having ridden out the storm on Saturday, Germany will hope for a clearer week ahead, particularly with a potential clash with in-form Spain on the horizon.
The first surprise of an unpredictable evening came when the starting XI was announced, with Nagelsmann making two changes to his starting line-up — the first time he has done so in 2024.
Since sweeping the broom through Germany’s squad in March, only injuries have stopped Nagelsmann playing his strongest XI.
Nagelsmann’s decision to replace the defensive-focused Maximilian Mittelstaedt with the attack-minded David Raum was a reward for the latter’s assist for Niclas Fuellkrug’s late equaliser against Switzerland.
The other unforced change was difficult to understand, with Nagelsmann dropping Wirtz for Sane, who showed pace but struggled with control and timing.
Nagelsmann explained the decision, saying he wanted to “reward a good week of training, as well as bring some speed into the game.
“(Sane) has got different characteristics than Flo.”
Wirtz, 21, came on with nine minutes remaining and was an immediate upgrade, holding up possession and finding runners.
The coach’s decision to again pick Kai Havertz over Fuellkrug also raised eyebrows, despite the Arsenal forward converting a second-half <a href="https://bit.ly/outlookindiasports">한국을</a> penalty.
In general play, Havertz had a number of chances but could not break through. His 10th-minute volley was saved by Danish goalie Kasper Schmeichel, with the goalkeeper gobbling up a tame Havertz header from point-blank range shortly before the break.
With Germany 1-0 up and 30 minutes remaining, Havertz broke through with only the goalkeeper to beat. The goal would have sealed the game for Germany but Havertz chipped wide.
Fortunately for Germany, Jamal Musiala had killer instinct when it mattered, scoring on the counter with 22 minutes remaining to wrap up the game.

Fears of further rises in the prices of goods and services are mounting, amplified by a nearly 8 percent year-to-date unmuted depreciation of Korea’s currency against the U.S. dollar, market watchers said Monday.
The weaker currency-oriented spikes in import prices combined with stalled rate cuts by the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) are major monetary policy consideration factors, pushing back the timing of easing for the Bank of Korea (BOK). The Korea’s central bank’s previous forecast had the figure pegged at around 1,200 won end-year.
Some say the Korean currency would plummet further below the psychologically significant barrier of 1,400 won, unless the Fed turns dovish before the Korea’s central bank.
Others say the currency depreciation concerns are overblown. The recent dip in valuation is, they say, ascribed more to the currency volatility in Japan and Europe, unlike mid-April plunging explained exclusively by strong U.S. dollar amid then dimming hopes of early Fed rate cuts and military escalation in the Middle East.
“The Korean currency will not see gains against the greenback any time soon,” said Chang Min, a senior research fellow at Korea Institute of Finance.
The BOK easing will, in his view, widen the Korea-U.S. rate differential, propelling volatile risk-on investor sentiment and consequent reorientation of their capital.
The figure remains 2 percentage points. Korea’s key rate stands at 3.5 percent, whereas the figure for the U.S. is at between 5.25 percent and 5.5 percent.
“The Fed rate cut preceding the BOK will push the Korean currency to edge up. But the currency will have no upward growth momentum, if it unfolds the other way around,” the former BOK official added.
The Korean won traded at a steady 1,300.4 won against the greenback, Jan. 3. However, it broke the 1,400 won barrier, April 16, rattled by wider <a href="https://bit.ly/outlookindiacasino">커뮤니티 </a>war fears between Israel and Hamas. The currency then gained to a range of between 1,360 won and 1,380 won the following week, as stabilized by the foreign exchange authorities’ verbal market intervention.
It further stabilized to the 1,350 won range mid-last month, only to reverse months of gains to touch the 1,390 won.
Among local brokerages with downgrades in currency value trajectories are Meritz Securities and NH Investment.
They both said the Korean won would weaken by a range of between 10 and 20 won this year, anticipating the figure to sink to as low as 1,380 won.
The won ended at 1,389 won against the U.S. dollar, Monday, shedding 0.7 won from the previous session.

The number of young Koreans who opted out of the job market in May was recorded at about 400,000, the highest since 2020. Despite the government’s measures announced last year to integrate this group into the labor market, their number increased again after nine months as the number of full-time jobs decreased.
According to a Statistics Korea survey released Sunday, 398,000 between the ages of 15 to 29 were economically inactive in May, neither searching for nor preparing to get a job.
These individuals did not have any serious illnesses or disabilities but reported they were “just taking time off” in the survey. They are also different from the unemployed, who have actively sought employment in the past four weeks but have been unable to find <a href="https://bit.ly/outlookindiatoto">추천 </a>a job.
