44.

 45.

It still feels strange discussing potential transfers for Liverpool after the events of the last week.

But with the clubâ\x80\x99s players having decided they will go ahead with Sundayâ\x80\x99s friendly against Preston, having been consulted following the tragic death of Diogo Jota, comes an indication that the Reds are turning their attentions back toward preparations for next season.

Transfers may still feel like the last thing on the minds of those at Anfield, with the next few days no doubt set to be emotional as Jotaâ\x80\x99s teammates take to the pitch for the first time since his passing.[BREAK]Among them is the re-emergence of one that got away last summer.

Had things turned out differently 12 months ago, Anthony Gordon might have already been a Liverpool player at this moment[BREAK]A deal to bring the former Everton man was very much in the works until the plug was pulled, with Newcastleâ\x80\x99s demand for Jarell Quansah to move in the opposite direction not fitting in with the Redsâ\x80\x99 priorities at the time.

Of course, had the deal been on the table this summer, it could have been a different story, considering Liverpool has since decided Quansah is indeed dispensable[BREAK]Anthony Gordon came close to joining Liverpool last summer[BREAK]
The door might be opening somewhat for Gordon to make the move to his boyhood club, with Anthony Elanga seemingly close to joining Newcastle, and Jack Grealish also being linked with the Magpies.

A valuation of around $136 million (£100M) though would have Liverpool thinking hard about the deal, not least because it might prevent it from going after the player it should really want.

Undoubtedly, a healthy grain of salt needs to be taken with such reports, but thereâ\x80\x99s no denying the valuation would add up for a player under contract until 2030, having only signed a new deal in October.

As good a player Gordon is, Liverpool fans would no doubt prefer his teammate â\x80\x94 one Alexander Isak.
[BREAK]
Of course, you would be looking at a lot more than $136 million for the Swede, with reports suggesting he will cost upwards of $204 million (£150M), and others even going as far as $272 million (£200M).

The latter valuation would be tough to justify, even for a player of Isakâ\x80\x99s ilk, but the former doesnâ\x80\x99t seem too unreasonable when compared to Gordonâ\x80\x99s supposed price tag.

There is little doubt that Isak would be a transformative signing, something that Liverpool has tried to achieve with its transfers throughout FSGâ\x80\x99s reign at the club

 50.

By on 30th Jun 2021 â\x80¢ ( Leave a comment )

Earlier this month it was reported that UNESCO would recommend the Liverpool waterfront be stripped of its World Heritage Status at a meeting in China this summer, as per the Guardian.

But it now seems there has been a reversal in that line of thinking after Mayor Joanne Anderson insisted regeneration plans for the northern docks canâ\x80\x99t be scrapped.

Speaking ahead of the World Heritage Committeeâ\x80\x99s next meeting, Liverpool City Council CEO Tony Reeves revealed itâ\x80\x99s â\x80\x9chighly likelyâ\x80\x9d there will be an amendment to the official recommendation the waterfront be stripped of its title.

The city has been on the â\x80\x98danger listâ\x80\x99 of losing its status since 2012, but local leaders have tried to strike a balance between what the international committee wants and allowing development opportunities to go ahead.

As initially reported by the Liverpool Echo, Mr Reeves said: â\x80\x9cThis morning, myself and Mayor Anderson had a really positive call with the Government who will be presenting the case for Liverpool to the commission to UNESCO next month.

â\x80\x9cWe talked through the strategy for that, and itâ\x80\x99s highly likely there will be an amendment tabled to give us a further year to work with the commission to hopefully get the commissioners to come to Liverpool to see for themselves what weâ\x80\x99re talking about, rather than bureaucrats who refuse to come here and give the view from Paris based on their very narrow perspective.

â\x80\x9cBut be absolutely clear from me and Mayor Anderson, all of our regeneration in the city centre going forwards will have heritage at its heart and be sympathetic to everything thatâ\x80\x99s great about this beautiful city and its history, irrespective of whether we have World Heritage Status or not.

â\x80\x9cWe really want to hang onto the title and brand of our World Heritage Status.[BREAK]If there is any justice, in my view, we will retain it.â\x80\x9d

The World Heritage Committee will meet in China at the end of next month to discuss, among other things, Liverpool, with some members participating digitally.
