I just installed XnView MP 1.9.2 x64 on windows 11. During the install, the installer reports that explorer is running. You can choose to 'shut down' explorer, or 'ignore (not recommended)'. This is the exact same issue I ran into when installing XnView 1.8.7, and also 1.8.3 - reported in this forum as follows:

1.8.7: https://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=48914
1.8.3: https://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic. ... 57#p202257

This time, I chose to ignore; the installation completed and the application ran.

Previously (with 1.8.7) I chose 'shut down' and it killed ALL my explorer sessions, including the one that is crucial to windows, and this was problematic (see the 1.8.7 post above).

The problem as I see it is, 'of course explorer is running' - explorer is a crucial part of the windows environment. No other program installation requires the complete shutdown of explorer.exe during the installation of shell extensions.
Statistics: Posted by Steerpike — Wed Jul 09, 2025 1:43 am

+1. This indeed would be a useful addition.

EDIT: Although it might be a good idea to impose a modifier key, e.g. Ctrl + left click, instead of just left click, to avoid accidental zooms.
Statistics: Posted by KLE-France — Tue Jul 08, 2025 4:48 pm

I notice that the keyboard shortcut for Edit / Copy to Clipboard / Image Content is 'Ctrl-Shift-C'. That's not easy for me to remember. But the 'universal standard' for 'copy' is 'Cmd-C' and ... it seems to work for me just like Ctrl-Shift-C. So is there any difference between the two?

I'm coming over to the Mac after decades of Windows usage, and specifically IrfanView usage for Image editing. And of course, all the keyboard shortcuts are different! So I was wondering if there's any way to re-map keyboard shortcuts? And/or, create new ones for commands that currently don't have any shortcuts?

UPDATE - I see now there's a wealth of information in the forums here, stickied at the top! I just explored the whole 'Preferences' / 'Shortcuts' area - very powerful! Is there a way to see all the shortcuts listed together, perhaps alphabetically ... with a view to seeing what shortcuts are 'free' (unassigned)? Does XnView prevent you from assigning an already-assigned shortcut combo?

I am still curious, though, as to what the differences are between Cmd-C and Ctrl-Shift-C !

Thanks!
Statistics: Posted by Steerpike — Tue Jul 08, 2025 9:15 am

Hi. In MacOS the latest version of XnView cannot be scrolled to other images with the mouse wheel.
The previous-next file option in Settings does not help either.
It works in Windows. In fullscreen view, when watching a video, the seek bar / video control bar doesnt disappear. Various settings in "Settings > View > Fullscreen" have been tried out, but the seek bar never disappears. My suggestion that it disappears after a few seconds when mouse is not moved in fullscreen. And, a photo control bar appears for a moment when entering fullscreen video view.

Statistics: Posted by Senliast — Tue Jul 08, 2025 6:42 am

I'm new to XnView, trying to find a replacement for IrfanView on Mac.

I love the fact I can add a simple Border to a screenshot from the clipboard - simply use 'Effect' -> 'Effect ...' -> (Misc Section) Border. I can define up to 4 borders, with different widths and colors - great!

But the next time I come to the tool, it's showing the default of 10 pixels white. I want 4 pixels black, every time (most times). I see that I can save my settings as a 'preset', but when I return to the tool, I have to 'choose' that preset from the dropdown. I'd like to be able to have it remember the 'last used' setting each time, so my black 4 point border is always there, by default.

Is there any way to do that?

Also - while I'm here - is there any way to re-map keyboard shortcuts?

Thanks!
Statistics: Posted by Steerpike — Tue Jul 08, 2025 6:38 am

For anyone finding this topic hoping to learn how to add a simple border to an image from the clipboard (like a screenshot), you can simply use 'Effect' / 'Effect ...' / (misc section) - Border. This will allow you to add up to 4 borders, any color. Awesome!

Oops - I see this is the forum for 'XnView Classic'; my info above is about XnView MP. I don't know if this is available in 'classic' or not.
Statistics: Posted by Steerpike — Tue Jul 08, 2025 6:23 am
