The individual, identified only by the name of Jiang, experienced severe vomiting and chest pain when attempting to ingest anything more solid than a grain of rice, prompting a visit to a Shanghai hospital.

 46.
Approximately three years ago, Jiang’s life took an unexpected turn when he began to suffer from a mysterious condition. Every attempt to eat resulted in choking and violent vomiting, with chest pains further complicating the ordeal.

 47.
These symptoms were especially pronounced with solid foods, ultimately limiting his intake to the equivalent of a single grain of rice per swallow. This led to a drastic reduction in his weight, from a healthy 75 kilogrammes to a mere 60 kilogrammes.

 48.
Medical examinations at the hospital led to a diagnosis of achalasia, a rare oesophagal condition characterised by the inability of the lower oesophagal sphincter to relax. This dysfunction causes the oesophagus to constrict, trapping food at its entrance rather than allowing it to pass smoothly into the stomach.

 49.
Although achalasia is not commonly encountered, it can significantly impair the quality of life, making even the simple act of eating a challenging and painful task.

 50.
After detailed consultation with specialists, the decision was made to perform a Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM). This minimally invasive surgical procedure, which lasted about an hour, involved using an endoscope inserted through the mouth to cut the muscles of the lower oesophagal sphincter.

 51.
The operation was deemed a success, allowing Jiang to drink water within 24 hours post-surgery and setting him on a path to full recovery within the following week.

 52.
“This procedure has changed my life. I can now eat and drink without pain or fear of vomiting.”

 53.
It also highlights the advancements in medical technology and surgical techniques that are making it possible to address such conditions more effectively, offering hope and improved quality of life for patients suffering from similar disorders, reported Sanook.

The 32 year old gunman, Karnkan, confessed to the crime after police charged him with intentional murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

 73.
The tragic incident occurred yesterday evening at the Po Tek Tung Foundation‘s disaster relief department. The victim, Thanawat, later succumbed to his injuries at Hua Chiew Hospital.

 74.
Karnkan was armed with a .38 calibre revolver and shot 39 year old Thanawat in the head three times following a personal dispute that had been brewing over the past four to five months, before reaching its boiling point last night.

 75.
Before the shooting, the two volunteers had engaged in a physical altercation. After the initial fight, the men separated, but Karnkan returned with the hidden weapon from his motorcycle and reopened the conflict with fatal consequences.

 76.
Upon responding to the scene, police from the Plabplachai 1 station swiftly apprehended Karnkan and seized the murder weapon.

 77.
Police Chief Apichet Sapsongserm revealed that while Karnkan has admitted to the shooting, further details are being withheld for investigative purposes.

 78.
Toxicology tests were conducted on Karnkan for drugs and alcohol but the results returned negative. Investigators are now focusing on gathering additional witness statements from those present during the incident and have summoned the heads of both parties involved for further questioning.

 79.
The atmosphere at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police General Hospital, where Thanawat’s body was transferred, was heavy with grief. Relatives and friends of the deceased arrived to claim his body, intending to hold a funeral at Mahapreuttharam Temple, reported Khaosod.

 80.
The police are continuing their investigation to piece together the exact circumstances of the crime and to ensure justice is served for the victim and his family.

Now, imagine that with every breath you take inside your vehicle, you’re inhaling potential carcinogens. This startling reality has been revealed by recent research, shedding light on a hidden danger lurking in the air we breathe daily.

 101.
The study’s shocking findings

 102.
Researchers from Duke University, North Carolina-USA discovered that the air inside virtually all personal vehicles is contaminated with harmful flame retardants. These chemicals, often used in seat foam and other materials, are added to meet outdated federal flammability standards, despite having no proven fire-safety benefits. Lead author Rebecca Hoehn from Duke University emphasised the significance of these findings, especially given that the average driver spends about an hour in their car each day. In the case of Thailand especially in Bangkok, individuals can often be stuck in their cars for as long as two hours in peak-hour traffic.

 103.
The study analysed 101 cars across the United States, all from model years 2015 or newer. Alarmingly, 99% of these cars contained tris (1-chloro-isopropyl) phosphate (TCIPP), a flame retardant under investigation as a potential carcinogen. Additionally, other organophosphate ester flame retardants, including tris (1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TDCIPP) and tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), both recognised as California Proposition 65 carcinogens, were detected. These chemicals have not only been linked to cancer but also to neurological and reproductive harm.

 104.

Photo by Александр Македонский from Pexels

 105.
Impact on human health

 106.
The implications of these findings are profound, especially for vulnerable populations like children and individuals with longer commutes. Studies have shown that exposure to flame retardants can lead to decreased IQ in children, with some estimates suggesting a fourfold increase in cancer risk for those with high levels of these chemicals in their blood.

 107.
Moreover, the study highlighted a concerning trend regarding temperature and chemical concentrations. Warmer weather was associated with higher levels of flame retardants in the air, as the off-gassing from interior components like seat foam increases at higher temperatures. Considering that vehicle interiors can reach temperatures as high as 150 degrees Fahrenheit, this poses a serious risk, particularly in hotter climates.

 108.
Addressing the issue and advocating for change

 109.
The study’s authors, along with organizations like the International Association of Fire Fighters, are urging regulatory bodies like the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to update flammability standards. They argue that current standards not only fail to provide significant fire safety benefits but also contribute to higher cancer rates among firefighters due to increased toxicity during fires.

 110.
A notable example is California’s updated flammability standard for furniture and baby products, which has led to lower levels of flame retardants in homes while maintaining or improving fire safety. This success underscores the possibility of achieving safer standards without compromising fire protection.

 111.

Photo by Claudio Schwarz on Unsplash

 112.
Understanding flame retardants and human exposure

 113.
Flame retardants, including organophosphate esters (OPEs) like TCIPP and TDCIPP, are widely used in various consumer products. These chemicals, once released into the air, can be inhaled or absorbed through contact, contributing to human exposure. Studies have linked exposure to flame retardants with a range of health issues, from developmental neurotoxicity to reproductive harm and cancer.

 114.
Despite restrictions on certain flame retardants like polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), their replacements, such as OPEs, continue to pose health risks. The need for comprehensive research and updated regulations is evident, especially in environments like vehicles where people spend significant amounts of time.

 115.
A call for action

 116.
The findings of this research serve as a wake-up call, highlighting the urgent need to address the presence of carcinogenic chemicals in our everyday environments, particularly in vehicles where exposure can be significant. From updating flammability standards to advocating for safer alternatives, concerted efforts are necessary to protect public health and reduce the risks associated with flame retardant exposure.

 117.
As consumers, being informed about these risks empowers us to make choices that prioritise our well-being. Whether it’s advocating for regulatory changes or taking simple steps like parking in the shade and ventilating our vehicles, every action counts in mitigating the impact of harmful chemicals in our cars.

 118.

Photo by Dan Dimmock from Unsplash

 140.
Mueang Chon Buri Police Station officers and local rescuers were alerted to a physical altercation between two groups of Thai men at Hua Hin-Bang Sai Market in the Chon Buri province on Saturday, May 11.

 141.
Officers discovered five injured men at the scene, among them a 40 year old named Sophon, who sustained the most severe injury with a portion of his right ear bitten off.

 142.
Sophon received initial first aid from rescuers before being transferred to Aikchol 2 Hospital. However, updates on his current condition are yet to be provided.

 143.
As reported by Channel 7, the altercation involved three Thai men against two others. The root cause of the conflict was traced back to an affair between Sophon and the wife of one of the men from the opposing group.

 144.
The attacker, whose identity was not disclosed, discovered that Suphon had an affair with his wife until she became pregnant. He arranged a meeting with Sophon at the market to address the situation. Unfortunately, the confrontation quickly escalated into violence.

 145.
The attacker admitted to being stabbed multiple times with a broken glass bottle by Sophon. Unable to defend himself, he resorted to biting off part of Sophon’s ear.

This topic, which went viral on platforms like TikTok and has attracted millions of views, has sparked widespread debate and speculation about why this younger demographic appears older in comparison to millennials. Influencers and everyday users are adding to this discussion by sharing their own experiences where they’re perceived as significantly older than they are.

 172.
The topic has transitioned from mere online discussions to gaining the attention of scientists and researchers. What was once dismissed as vanity concerns or trivial chatter, recent studies suggest there may be credibility to these observations.

 173.

Image was AI generated by DALL-E

 174.
Perceptions of ageing in Generation Z

 175.
Influence of social media on perceived age

 176.
Social media platforms, such as Instagram or TikTok, have significantly shaped GenZ’s perceptions of ageing and self-presentation. These platforms often promote a more mature and sophisticated image than the users’ actual age. The continuous exposure to meticulously curated and edited pictures of peers and celebrities, who may appear older than they are, establishes a new benchmark for how young individuals perceive themselves and others.

 177.
Furthermore, the competitive nature of today’s digital age has prompted many in GenZs to adopt fashion and lifestyle choices typically associated with older demographics. The availability of makeup tutorials and fashion trends through social media channels causes teenagers to look older than their true age. Filters and editing tools on these apps further obscure the distinction between an individual’s real age and their online persona, leading to a perception that GenZs age faster than previous generations did at the same stage.

 178.
Using platforms such as TikTok and Instagram enables GenZs to mimic behaviours and linguistic styles usually attributed to older age groups. Coupled with the access to content spanning entrepreneurial advice to extensive political and cultural discussions, it empowers them to project an aura of sophistication and maturity.

 179.
This phenomenon of accelerated ageing is not solely a matter of cosmetic or superficial change. The demands of the digital era require a level of mental maturity from GenZs that was not expected from earlier generations at a similar age, fostering an advanced outlook on life from a younger age. While social media offers opportunities for learning and personal development, it also plays a significant role in altering the perceived ageing process among Generation Z members.

 180.
Lifestyle factors impacting ageing in Gen Z

 181.

Image was AI generated by DALL-E

 182.
Skincare trends and their long-term effects

 183.
The growing interest of GenZ in skincare, including procedures such as fillers and Botox, often influenced by celebrity endorsements, plays a significant role in their ageing process. The appeal of instant solutions for achieving beauty standards may lead younger individuals towards options that could contribute to skin damage and faster ageing over time. Although fillers and Botox offer quick enhancements, they may diminish the skin’s natural elasticity and vibrancy after prolonged use. Moreover, relying on these cosmetic treatments from an early age can create a dependency cycle that might accelerate the ageing process, undermining the desired outcome of maintaining youthfulness.

 184.
The impact of stress on ageing

 185.
Stress is a critical factor in premature ageing, particularly for GenZs, who navigate a hyper-connected world dominated by social media and the internet. This generation experiences unprecedented stress levels due to constant connectivity, which not only blurs work and leisure boundaries but also subjects them to continuous societal pressures and comparisons. Excessive stress increases cortisol production, a hormone that causes inflammation and cellular damage, accelerating the ageing process. Furthermore, stress adversely affects mental health, which in turn impacts physical health and contributes to accelerated ageing. Chronic stress shortens telomeres—the protective caps on chromosomes that indicate biological age—speeding up the ageing process. As the first generation fully immersed in digital and social media environments, GenZs face a unique form of stress that could hasten their physical and biological ageing compared to past generations.

 186.
Urbanization and its ageing impacts

 187.
Urbanization plays a critical role in accelerating the ageing process of Generation Z, due to increased exposure to environmental pollutants and lifestyle stressors. Factors contributing to this phenomenon include air pollution, extensive use of electronic devices, and a diet high in processed foods. These elements elevate oxidative stress and inflammation, leading to premature ageing. The fast-paced urban lifestyle also increases exposure to blue light, disrupts sleep patterns, and encourages the consumption of more processed food items, adversely affecting both physical and mental health.

 188.
In urban environments, the scarcity of fresh and nutritious food options promotes unhealthy eating habits that can lead to weight gain, inflammation, and various health issues. Additionally, the competitive nature of city life often results in chronic stress. This constant exposure to stress hormones such as cortisol can lower collagen levels in the skin, creating wrinkles and other visible signs of ageing.

 189.
Health behaviours and perceived age

 190.

Image was AI generated by DALL-E

 191.
Diet and exercise’s role in youthful appearance

 192.
A balanced diet and regular exercise are key factors in maintaining a youthful appearance and GenZs value that. Nutrients from a carefully planned diet support skin health, elasticity, and vitality. Antioxidant-rich foods, like fruits and vegetables, are vital in combating free radicals that contribute to premature ageing. On the other hand, processed foods and high-sugar diets can exacerbate skin issues and hasten the ageing process.

 193.
Consistent physical activity enhances circulation, maintains healthy body weight, and improves muscle tone, contributing to a youthful appearance. Exercise stimulates the release of hormones beneficial for skin health and lowers stress levels, indirectly addressing factors that may speed up ageing processes. However, it’s important to note that while Gen Z’s participation in fitness trends and wellness-oriented diets can support longevity, an inclination towards extreme diets and fitness challenges might negate these advantages.

 194.
The prevalence of vaping among young adults

 195.
Vaping emerges as a notable health behaviour among GenZs, potentially leading to an older appearance. Marketed as a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes nonetheless present significant risks. Containing nicotine—often in quantities equal to a pack of cigarettes—e-cigarettes are highly addictive. The inhalation of e-cigarette aerosols introduces harmful substances into the body, such as diacetyl, nickel, tin, lead, and other carcinogens and volatile organic compounds.

 196.
These chemicals found in e-cigarettes can detrimentally affect skin health by accelerating the ageing process through cellular damage and reduced skin elasticity. Additionally, nicotine’s ability to narrow blood vessels restricts blood flow to the skin, limiting its access to essential oxygen and nutrients. This restriction can result in premature wrinkles and a dull complexion that appears aged.

 197.
Beyond direct physical effects, nicotine’s addictive nature may increase stress levels, further influencing perceived age. Stress is associated with several skin issues like acne and eczema that can amplify signs of ageing. Furthermore, accidental ingestion or contact with e-cigarette liquids can cause poisoning—a serious health risk that undermines youthful appearance.

 198.
Psychological aspects and aging

 199.

Image was AI generated by DALL-E

 200.
Social pressures and the pursuit of maturity

 201.
GenZs are confronted with significant social pressures that have contributed to their accelerated ageing process. The presence of social media in their lives plays a crucial role, often presenting unrealistic standards of success, beauty, and lifestyle. This drives young individuals towards adopting a more mature persona than their actual age. The quest for maturity is not just about physical appearance but also behaviours and social interactions. Due to constant comparison, this amplifies the stress levels, stemming from the aspiration to meet these standards and the fear of missing out (FOMO) on life milestones seemingly achieved by others.

 202.
Interestingly, social media can simultaneously promote and stigmatize behaviours associated with ageing. For instance, vaping is marketed as fashionable despite its adverse health effects like nicotine addiction and potential lung diseases. This highlights the contradictory nature of social media’s impact. Consequently, GenZ’s addiction towards e-cigarettes underlines the negative health consequences of traditional smoking due to societal pressure and the appeal of adult habits.

 203.
Furthermore, the celebration of adult-like behaviours and fashion on digital platforms increasingly obscures the distinction between adolescence and adulthood. This mimicry not only contributes to an aged perception but also imposes mental stress on young people, urging them to forsake the simplicity traditionally linked with youth.

 204.

Image was AI generated by DALL-E

 205.
The search for identity and the pressure to mature

 206.
The psychological development of Gen Zs is tied to their search for identity and the pressure they face to mature quickly, factors that significantly influence their ageing process. Social media platforms have transcended their original purpose as mere connection spaces, emerging as pivotal stages for individuals to carve out unique identities. These digital landscapes, while fostering creative expression, simultaneously expose users to continuous scrutiny and comparison.

 207.
Gen Zs find themselves propelled towards early maturity due to the online personas they observe. On platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, they are bombarded with images of curated perfection. Emulating these behaviours and aesthetics imposes a considerable strain on young people to manifest an older persona both digitally and in real life.

 208.
This pressure is further exacerbated by the visible success stories of young influencers, equating maturity with accomplishment. As a result, this push towards accelerated ageing extends deep into Gen Z’s psyche, encouraging an untimely shift into adulthood before many are psychologically or emotionally prepared. This premature transition disrupts natural growth patterns while elevating stress and anxiety levels—factors contributing to physical signs of ageing.

 209.
As Generation Z navigates the challenges of rapid development, the psychological impact is visibly manifest. Engaging in behaviours intended to project an adult persona, such as vaping, introduces health hazards and accelerates physical ageing—highlighting the negative effects of rushing through youth. This blend of premature maturity with harmful actions leads to a cycle where psychological strain and physical well-being decline together, hastening the ageing process. This analysis underscores the importance of understanding and addressing the complex dynamics in adolescent development and health.

 210.
Generation Z is ageing faster than previous generations due to social media influence, lifestyle choices, and societal pressures. Recognizing these effects on mental and physical health is crucial. Society can alleviate the hastened ageing process by promoting a balanced lifestyle and fostering healthier growth for this generation and future generations.

The power of social media influencers to set trends and capture the public’s imagination is undeniable, as demonstrated by Cullen Hateburry’s recent excursion to Chanthaburi province.

 229.
Alongside his companions, known as Pee Jung and Nong Dan, the group’s adventurous journey was documented on the YouTube channel Hateburry, captivating viewers with a range of local activities and culinary delights.

 230.
In a recent visit, the group immersed themselves in the province’s rich offerings, engaging in activities such as riding in the back of a pickup truck to harvest fruit and digging for precious gemstones. However, it was their culinary exploration that left a lasting impression.

 231.
The team indulged in local dishes such as Gaeng Moo Chamuang (pork curry with Chamuang leaves), Pad Mee Poo (stir-fried noodles with crab), and the highlight of their trip, the Nam Mapied drink. Their enthusiastic reaction to the drink’s unique flavour was so infectious that viewers couldn’t help but share in their excitement.

 232.
Nam Mapied, also known to many as Citrus hystrix, Som Jeed, or kaffir line, is a staple ingredient in Chanthaburi’s kitchens. Despite its small size, the fruit packs a punch with a sourness comparable to that of a lime.

 233.
A traditional alternative to lime in many dishes due to its easy availability and cost-effectiveness, this citrus fruit bears a distinctive aroma that has won the hearts of those who try it.

 234.
Thai climate

 235.
The transformation of Nam Mapied into a beverage is a familiar treat for the locals of Chanthaburi. The drink, characterised by a strong, leading sour taste followed by sweetness, is both aromatic and refreshing.

 236.
Perfect for the hot Thai climate, consumers often customise it with honey, oranges, lime, or any preferred fruit. In the video, Cullen’s group was served a variation of the drink with lychee, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally, it can be mixed with salt to create a remedy for coughs and help expel phlegm.

 237.
Taiwanese connoisseurs have recommended Nam Mapied as one of seven summer drinks that are both delicious and waistline-friendly, further testament to the drink’s appeal.

 238.
These recommended beverages, including the Nam Mapied, are readily available in Thailand, offering a delightful way to quench thirst and experience local flavours without the guilt of excessive calories, reported Sanook.

The incident ignited a debate over consumer rights and business ethics on social media.

 256.
Ramen, a Japanese culinary staple known for its versatile flavours and toppings, is a beloved dish among noodle enthusiasts. In Thailand, ramen shops can be found in nearly every nook and cranny, each offering their unique spin on the dish.

 257.
Typically, a bowl of ramen features a rich broth, noodles, and a variety of toppings such as chashu pork, boiled eggs, bamboo shoots, corn, and seaweed.

 258.
The drama unfolded when a member of the We are Consumers group shared their experience at a well-known ramen establishment. They had ordered a bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen, a type of ramen with a base of noodles, pork bone broth, sliced chashu pork, and other ingredients.

 259.
To their dismay, they were served ham in place of chashu, and the ham tasted sour as if it had gone bad.

 260.
Upon inquiring with the staff, the customer was informed that the substitution was made under the restaurant owner’s instructions.

 261.
Following the meal, the customer suffered from relentless diarrhoea. They expressed relief that they had not allowed their daughter to consume the ham from their bowl, or the situation could have been worse.

 262.
The customer attempted to contact the franchise owner of the branch in question but was met with a denial of ownership, despite the contact number listed on the franchise’s page. To date, the brand has not taken any responsibility for the incident.

 263.
The post quickly went viral, with many group members criticising the restaurant for its apparent disregard for customer satisfaction and suggesting that the matter be reported to the Consumer Protection Board (CPB). The general consensus was that the dish served did not match the menu’s description.

 264.
This incident has highlighted the need for better adherence to food quality standards and transparency in the food industry, serving as a cautionary tale for both consumers and businesses about the importance of maintaining trust and integrity in culinary practices.

The image, shared on Facebook, serves as a stark reminder of the environmental changes affecting our oceans.

 284.
Thon yesterday posted a picture of the infrequent phenomenon of sea foam, which occurs when greenhouse gases accumulate in the atmosphere, causing the Earth’s temperatures to exceed critical limits, and ocean waters to heat up beyond the critical threshold. This results in coral bleaching visible from great heights, akin to birds in the sky, followed by a mass death of marine life as the sea essentially boils.

 285.
Thon’s post has raised concerns about an imminent hot world condition, suggesting that within three days, the country could be engulfed in darkness, a situation more severe than global warming. The post also mentioned a costly lesson where automobiles parked in direct sunlight melted, pointing to small actions that many people take for granted but which contribute to the larger issue of climate change.

 286.
The image and the warning serve as a sobering call to action for both the public and policymakers to recognize the immediate and tangible effects of global warming on our planet. The phenomenon of sea foam is not just a rare spectacle but a symptom of the larger environmental crisis.

 287.
As the world grapples with the realities of climate change, the role of scientists like Thon becomes increasingly critical in providing evidence and raising awareness. His work underscores the urgency for more sustainable practices and policies to mitigate the detrimental impact of human activities on the environment.

 288.
The stark image of coral bleaching and the dramatic language used by Thon in his post emphasises the dire situation facing marine ecosystems. It’s a reminder that the beauty of natural phenomena can sometimes be a facade for underlying ecological disasters.

 289.
In addition to the ecological implications, the phenomenon also has significant economic and social consequences. The health of marine life is essential for the livelihoods of millions of people around the world who depend on fisheries and tourism.

 290.
The sea foam serves as a warning that, without immediate action, the consequences of climate change could be catastrophic not only for the environment but also for human societies, reported Sanook.

 309.
Chiang Mai is poised to witness a remarkable celestial event known as solar noon, where the sun will be exactly overhead, causing objects in direct sunlight to cast no shadow. This occurrence, which seems to render objects shadowless, offers a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to observe.

 310.
However, NARIT, under the purview of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, with Suparuek Krihanon at the helm of the Academic Service Center and Astronomical Communication, warns observers to be cautious of the fierce midday sun, which could pose health risks, including heatstroke.

 311.
It’s important to note that the absence of shadows during solar noon does not necessarily coincide with the hottest day, as high temperatures depend on various factors such as rainfall, cloud cover, monsoonal influences, and accumulated heat among others.

 312.
This natural spectacle occurs twice a year, typically between April and May and again between July and September, due to Thailand’s geographical position within the 5-20 degrees northern latitude. The sun passes overhead near the zenith point, resulting in two instances of solar noon.

 313.
Each province in Thailand experiences this phenomenon at different dates and times, and interested individuals can check the schedule for their respective province at NARIT’s official website.

 314.
NARIT’s announcement is aimed at educating the public about this natural event and its implications. While it poses no direct consequence to the overall temperature or weather patterns, it serves as a reminder of the country’s tropical climate and the need for precautions against the potential health hazards associated with high temperatures.

 315.
The institute continues to play a key role in disseminating astronomical knowledge and fostering public engagement with science and the cosmos.
