The title says it all… I am very adamant about this subject. I have a few personal stories of why this is such a big deal and why I am not a fan!

Back in 2011, I started one of my businesses. I’m not going to tell you which one because you might be able to figure out who I am talking about in this story. I started this business about the same time as another business started theirs.. They however, had their Facebook page up long before mine. At the time, I didn’t know how important it was to have a Facebook page for my business and was fairly new to social media. My rival had a little over 2,000 followers when I came along. I decided to start a Facebook page and it was slow in growing. I didn’t really post much on it and didn’t have the time to keep it up. Well, fast forward another year and I decided to really focus on my page. I realized by posting regularly and a few other things, my page was really starting to grow! I had caught up to my rival and started to pass them up the next year. My page had about 13,000 followers about 1,000 more than my rival. Then it started…

I was checking on the rival page about once a month. The next time I checked on them, their page had grown over 20,000 followers in just one month. I was shocked! What were they doing to get so many fans? I looked at their posts and they weren’t much different than mine. Well, the next month they grew over another 20,000. the next month, another 20,000 and so on until they were in the 100,000’s followers. Their posts were also getting tons of engagement. Mind you, this was before Facebook changed its algorithms. So I was also getting a lot of engagement on each of my posts, but they were getting thousands of likes even over 10,000 likes on each post. What was going on? I happened to click on one of their posts and looked at those that were engaged with the post and guess what I found? Hundreds of foreign profiles were liking their posts. Most of them looked to be men from the middle east. I was shocked! I looked up the subject, “Fake followers on Google,” and a ton of information came up. I had figured it out. I’m not going to accuse, but I think they could have purchased fake followers and likes. To give them the benefit of the doubt, I don’t have proof, but this is the only thing that makes sense. I am not accusing them. Well, let me tell you what fake followers and likes can do.

It can look really good to have hundreds of thousands of followers on your social media until you look at the engagement. That’s when the truth comes out. It can look very appealing to advertisers and companies you work with, but it’s very dishonest. When you get fake followers, they aren’t going to follow your posts. You will make a post, but you’re going to get very minimal engagement.

Disadvantages of Fake Followers and Likes:

-Your followers will not be engaged with your posts
-You will have thousands of followers who aren’t interested in your niche and business.
-The more followers you have the more expensive it is to advertise on Social Media, so you are really paying for those fake followers in the long run.
-You are deceiving your audience.
-And so much more…

Now I know why they do it. They want to look like they are IT when it comes to their niche. They want to be the one that everyone goes to. They want it to look very appealing to their advertisers. But it’s not real and it will get you in the long run. DON’T DO IT!

Here are a few screen shots I took of their page. They have over 500,000 followers and this is the engagement they are getting. ( The great thing about Facebook is you can keep track of your rival’s insights. When compared to my business, they tank…) Since they stopped buying likes about 4 years ago, they have gotten about 6,000 followers.

I just went to their page and screenshot the first three posts on their page. The top one, they got 12 likes 3 shares, the next one is 40 likes 3 comments and 6 shares and the last one is 11 likes. They should be getting so much more than this with over 500,000 followers. Can you see how silly this looks? You don’t want hundreds of thousands of followers and getting only a few likes, it does not look good.

Now below are screenshots from my page. I have almost 36,000 followers and this is the engagement I am getting…

I was also able to include the insights on each post. These are the last 3 posts that were on my page. You can see that each one is getting very good engagement. So you can see you DO NOT WANT TO GET FAKE FOLLOWERS!

Here is another example this time on Instagram. There is a blogger that works with a lot of the same companies that I do. We work with television series, clothing companies, jewelry and much more. But it’s another thorn in my side because I know she has added fake likes to her account to pad her numbers. Her followers jumped about 10,000 followers almost overnight and she started getting tons of engagement. She was going from about 40-50 likes per picture to over a thousand likes per picture. So, once again I investigated. I clicked on her likes from one of her I.G. posts and found that 90% of them were foreign followers. Here is a sample of just some of her followers from one post. They were all foreign. All of her followers that were liking her posts looked like this this…

There were thousands of these types of followers on all of her posts. You DO NOT want to have followers like this. They are not good for your page or your business. They are all fake.

So, I hope I have made some sense with this blog. It can be very tempting to buy followers to make your page look bigger, but can you see what happens when you actually do it? It just gives you a bunch of non active people that follow you and then when you buy likes, it gives you all foreign likes. Any company that was to look into this will not work with you. DON’T DO IT!

Whether you are looking for a Social Media coach, or a full blown Business Coach, here are some things to look for…

Not all business coaches are alike, believe me! Today this occupation is very saturated, if no overly saturated…

I started my business coaching academy, Cowgirl Boss back in 2015. This was before the market was saturated and I was one of the only cowgirl niche business coaches out there. The reason I started it is I had started several successful businesses and I had many people who would ask me all kinds of questions about how to start a business. I decided to publish courses that would cater to women who not only owned a business or wanted to start a business, but also loved the country lifestyle like I do. I am a huge believer in home businesses, especially for women. I have found it’s a great way to be a stay at home mom while helping with the family income.

I have learned a lot about business over the past 25 years, since I started my first. There are coaches out there who are the real deal, and then sadly you will find coaches that have quickly designed a website and are calling themselves business coaches as it is the new way of making a quick buck. Here are a few ways to tell the difference in coaches…

Social Media Coach
There are many that call themselves a Social Media Coach. Social media is a huge tool in getting your business known. You will want to make sure you get it right when selecting a Social Media Coach. If you are looking to grow your Facebook Page, this is what you will want to look for in a coach.
–Check out their Social Media pages:
How many followers do they have?
Is their page engaged?
What type of posts are they posting?
What type of engagement are they getting on their posts.
Do they understand the Insights portion of Facebook, how it works, what it means?
Do they know how to advertise?
When it comes to Social Media it can really make or break your business. Make sure these coaches aren’t having you buy fake followers or fake engagement. Here is a link to another blog on that subject. There is nothing that stirs my pot more than fake followers and fake engagement. You will understand why after reading my blog.

Business Coach
There are also many that call themselves Business Coaches. When I first started back in 2015, there was just a handful and now the market is saturated. Make sure they know what they are doing. Here’s a few topics that they are going to need to know a lot about, so ask them
–Websites:
How much do they know about websites? It’s really helpful if the coach knows about web design, structure and more. Have they designed websites before?
Do they know about keywords, meta tags, SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
What is their experience in web ads, Google AdWords, AdSense and more…
Do they know about domain names, hosting and more…
–Branding/Marketing:
A business coach should know about branding your business. They should know about brand identity, promoting the service you are offering, content to be published and advertising.
Do they know the customer you are trying to reach?
What is their experience with this?
What type of content to feature is very important when it comes to your branding an marketing.
Do they have experience in logo design?
Photography is huge in your brand and marketing. Do they know how to create a photo shoot and what type of photos to use for your business?
–Social Media
In a perfect world, your Business Coach should have a good knowledge of Social Media. You shouldn’t have to have a Social Media Coach and a separate Business Coach.
–Successful Business
A successful Business Coach will have a trail of at least one successful business. It’s better to have a long list of successful business when you are a Business Coach that you can keep on your resume.Remember the key to getting a knowledgeable Business Coach is to ASK QUESTIONS, SEE PROOF OF WHAT THEY ARE TEACHING and EXPERIENCEPlease feel free to check out this website, the Cowgirl Boss Academy. Ask me any questions you might have. I would love opportunity to help you with your business and have you a part of our community!

7 tips to help you launch a successful business

(Family Features) Entrepreneurship is alive and well, even if the face of small business is evolving with the times. Autonomy in management and making dreams a reality are the reasons most cited by entrepreneurs looking to open a small business.

Nearly half of all respondents in the annual The UPS Store “Inside Small Business Survey” said they’d be optimistic about opening a small business this year. Of respondents who hope to open a small business, top motivators include being their own bosses (38 percent), followed by believing in the power of their own ideas (17 percent) and creating their next career paths (15 percent).

“The American Dream of owning your own business is still very much real, especially when compared to the rest of the developed world,” said Dr. Luke Pittaway, Ohio University College of Business Copeland Professor of Entrepreneurship.

However, how Americans are choosing to open small businesses is where there may be a shift.

“Consumer habits are changing,” Pittaway said. “That’s forcing Americans to consider how they open small businesses, whether it’s focusing more on e-commerce than actual store fronts or focusing on selling to a local community or region instead of a broader national audience.”

Starting Your Own Start-Up
The process of launching a start-up can throw various unexpected obstacles your way, but there are numerous resources available to support a budding business.

“We understand the challenges of small business owners and offer products and services designed specifically to help and support small businesses,” said Tim Davis, president of The UPS Store, Inc. “Small business owners are unparalleled in their passion for their businesses, and understanding that aspiration is critical to running a successful small business.”

This action plan from the experts at The UPS Store can help you get you on your way to launching a successful start-up:

1. Analyze your target audience.
Start by performing extensive market research to understand your customers’ core necessities. Assessing your target demographic gives you a clear perspective on how to serve the people in it.

2. Determine a legal structure.
Selecting the right legal structure ultimately determines how you handle income taxes and all government reporting requirements. Many small businesses fall under a sole proprietorship or limited liability company (LLC) while bigger entities may identify as corporations.

3. Establish your premises.
Choosing the right business setting could be the difference between a cost-effective start-up and a moderately expensive one. Your work space should fall within your monthly budget while still satisfying the needs of your customers.

4. Determine your budget and expenses.
Assessing your available funds enables you to prioritize and assign an appropriate amount to your business assets. This should include necessities for daily operations, as well as secondary expenses, such as traveling and meetings.

5. Develop a business plan.
Think of a business plan as a road map that indicates where your start-up stands and where it is headed. If you need funding, it’s also a great tool to articulate your ideas, philosophies and goals.

6. Set up a marketing plan.
Conduct an analysis of your business’s strengths and weaknesses to devise strategies and tactics that account for challenges and opportunities your business is likely to face. The scale of your marketing plan will likely depend on resources you have available and your target audience, but should feature a variety of tactics. Your plan should include printed materials like direct mailers, business cards, newsletters, flyers, banners and posters, as well as digital to cover things like search and social media.

7. Be competitive.
Examine your competitors to determine the areas in which they thrive and see what makes them successful. Learn from the landscape to improve upon their strengths and gain an upper hand on their weaknesses. For example, implement various pricing models, such as special offers, coupons and rewards, rather than sticking with your initial, low price to remain competitive and profitable.

With a carefully structured action plan, you can turn your start-up idea into a successful business. Find more tips for your small business at TheUPSStore.com.

Pitch your small business like a Pro

When you’re launching a small business, there could be any number of reasons you may need to pitch your idea. You may be courting an investor, recruiting talent or even starting to market your product or service. Brevity is often essential, so learn how to concisely pitch your business like a pro with these tips:

Draw out the essentials. Reduce your pitch to a few digestible bites. Make sure you have an intro that is brief enough to get someone’s undivided attention then elaborate on your points, such as your top competitive advantages, and provide more detail about your business as a whole.

Come to entertain. Add an entertainment factor to make your pitch engaging and memorable. Of course, you need substance to go along with style, but keeping your audience focused and doing something to stand out is essential.

Anticipate questions. Prepare yourself to reassure concerned investors and flesh out subjects you may have kept brief for your presentation. Make sure to practice your answers so you sound confident. Grabbing attention is important, but you need to be able to back up your spiel.

Know your audience. This is the cardinal rule of communication. Make sure you do your homework and know who you are addressing. This shows you value your listener’s time and feedback. Furthermore, insight about his or her philosophy in doing business can be extremely valuable during a pitch.

Practice until it hurts. Take the time to practice your entire pitch, including answers to likely questions, until you know it inside and out. The more comfortable you are, the more likely you are to win someone over in a meeting.

Have the materials to back it up. A written document is your chance to leave a lasting impression and elaborate on your major selling points. It’s also a chance to show your professionalism, so be sure to proofread carefully and package the information for a polished presentation.

If you’ve ever looked at another entrepreneur and wondered how she manages to get it all done, the answer might surprise you.

She’s got good systems.

It’s true. The most productive people all have one thing in common: they don’t reinvent the wheel every day. Instead, they’ve figured out the best, most efficient way to do every task, and they create a system to do just that.

No matter what business you’re in and what projects you find yourself tackling, a systemized approach will help you:

Work faster and produce more

Produce higher quality results with fewer mistakes

Easily outsource the tasks you don’t like to do

The Magic of Templates

How many times do you answer email from potential clients? What about responding to customer complaints? Or mailing your JV partners about an upcoming launch?

All of these tasks and more become effortless when you create fill-in-the-blank templates that can be repurposed for specific cases/people. Templates can be as simple as a “canned response” in your email client or help desk, or you can use software such as Text Expander (for Mac) or Phrase Express (for Windows). You might even create a template document in Dropbox or Google Drive to house all your templates for easier access.

While templates will undoubtedly save you time, the real beauty is that once they’re created, you can easily outsource things like email and even sales. Simply instruct your assistant on the proper use of your templates, and you’ll be free to do other, more important things.

Checklists Prevent Mistakes

It might seem counterintuitive, but when you perform the same tasks over and over again, it’s easy to miss a critical step. You might think you paid your affiliates this month—you might even remember doing it—only to look back and see it was never completed.

But when you implement checklists, it’s suddenly much more difficult to miss an important task.

You can easily create checklists for all your common tasks and projects using nothing more than a text document. If you’re managing a team, checklists in your project management system allow you to see exactly what tasks are complete, and which are still outstanding.

Templates and checklists turn smart business owners into productivity superstars, and it’s easy to get started. The next time you answer an email you’ve answered before, save your response. The next time you set up a new product in your shopping cart or create a new opt-in page, take the time to record the steps. These documents will make future projects easier and faster to complete, and best of all, you can hand them off to your assistant to do instead.

Think and Succeed!

Ever since Napoleon Hill wrote his groundbreaking book, Think and Grow Rich, successful people have been using mastermind groups to up-level their accomplishments and create opportunities for themselves and for others as well. Perhaps you have heard of mastermind groups but are not sure what they are and how you could benefit from them.

What is a mastermind?

In the words of Napoleon Hill, a mastermind is “Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”

Basically, a mastermind group is a group of people who communicate regularly with each other for the purpose of helping each other reach their goals.

The idea of mastermind is taken from the habits of highly successful people.

Napoleon Hill noticed, for example, that Andrew Carnegie belonged to a mastermind group, which consisted of about fifty men. He surrounded himself with these men for the express purpose of manufacturing and marketing steel. In fact, he later attributed the entirety of his fortune to the power he gained from this group of people. Likewise, most of Henry Ford’s success became noticeable after he became close friends with Thomas Edison. Coincidence? Not likely.

These examples simply show the power that comes from being surrounded by people who are interested in thinking outside the box and are committed to reaching not only their own goals, but helping you reach yours as well.

What are the features of a successful mastermind?

While every mastermind group will have its own individual characteristics, there are some elements that should be present in order for the group to function at the highest level possible. These include:

A leader. A leader is an essential ingredient for a mastermind group. Without someone to provide direction and keep the session in line with the agenda, time could be wasted in unproductive chatter. This person may also provide individual coaching for members outside of the group sessions.

Member commitment. Because a mastermind group is only as strong as its members, participants must be committed to being active in the group. The success of a group depends on the willingness of each member to work hard not only on his own individual goals, but also on the goals of the other members.

Why do masterminds work?

When highly motivated people join together to reach goals and make things happen, the result is often an up-leveling of success for everyone. Finally, you are not just relying on your own ideas and your own internal motivation. By making yourself vulnerable to the group, you are subjecting yourself to their ideas, their motivation and their accountability.

Your goals become their goals. And their goals become your goals. Sometimes you need to be pushed. Sometimes you can’t see what is in front of you. Sometimes you need someone else believing that you can do something, even when you are beginning to doubt yourself.

And of course, sometimes all it takes is being surrounded by successful people who are high-energy, highly positive and highly motivated to stay in the driver’s seat of their own lives. And if these people see you trying to crawl into the back seat of your own life, they will drag you back and make sure you stay on top of your game.

Who can benefit from a mastermind?

Do you have goals that you want to reach? Then you can benefit from a mastermind group. Perhaps you want to set a goal of working out a certain number of hours each week. Maybe you want to finally get a handle on what you eat, but you aren’t sure where to find the motivation that it takes to break ingrained habits. It could be that if you had a group of people counting on you to show up and be strong for them, you might be stronger for yourself.

A great place to try out the benefits of a mastermind is in a fitness boot camp. All the essential elements are there waiting for you. Harness the power of this decades-old success principal, and get back in the driver’s seat of your life.

The Branding Arena Facebook Group

I would love to have you join our Facebook Group, The Branding Arena, where we discuss different goals, ideas and help motivate each other. You can request it here!
