Welcome to Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season! It has finally arrived.
The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will be hosting their NFC East division rival Dallas Cowboys to open the season. One team is close to ascending to the level of NFL dynasty, while the other just traded away one of the best players in the NFL because they didn’t want to offer a big contract. It would appear Jerry Jones plans to tank the franchise as his final act, but who knows maybe he’ll draft two Micah Parsons with those two first round picks he got from the trade. lol, doubt it.
Kickoff is set for Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 6:20 p.m. Mile High time at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and will air on NBC.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="HEHids">My Prediction</h2>
<a href="https://sportsbook.fanduel.com/navigation/nfl">According to FanDuel</a>, the Eagles are 8.5-point favorites over the visiting Cowboys. Last season, the Eagles start off the season pretty sloppy before winning 15 of their next 16 games including the playoffs. If that were to happen again in 2025, I’d still give them the edge here at home and on prime time. The crowd is going to be electric and the Cowboys likely in disarray after losing one of their core leaders and best player. A few late garbage time scores makes it closer, but give me the Eagles with a 1-0 start to the year.
Prediction: Eagles 30, Cowboys 20

The NFL regular season kicks off tonight, while the Denver Broncos continue to prepare for their Sunday matchup at home against the Tennessee Titans. A couple of new additions to the injury report today is a bit of concern for Denver heading into the end of the week, while inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw continues to be a non-participant in practice.
Defensive tackle Malcolm Road appears to have a calf issue that caused him to be limited in practice. Dondrea Tillman also was limited by a hamstring. Those soft tissue issues can be annoyingly nagging as we have seen from Greenlaw’s quad injury. These are a bit of a concern and worth monitoring, but the team is mostly healthy heading into Week 1. The Titans had one of their guys progress to a full participant today, but other than that no changes on their end.

The Broncos extended another star player!
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos and edge rusher Nik Bonitto have reached an agreement on a four-year extension that is worth up to $120 million dollars and includes $70 million dollars in guaranteed money. The Broncos’ star pass rusher was entering the final year of his rookie deal, and GM George Paton and the rest of the Broncos front office made sure he would be around for the foreseeable future. 
<a href="https://x.com/mikeklis9news/status/1963611253991174282">9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis confirms the deal</a> and provides some added insight. It’s a four-year deal, worth $106 million, but he can earn up to $120 million with incentives. He is scheduled to make $5,35 million this season and will still get that along with whatever signing bonus he is receiving.

Bonitto and the Broncos signing an extension always seemed like a matter of when, not if. Unlike the Micah Parsons situation, the two sides were confident something would get done. Bonitto showed up and participated throughout camp without issues, dominating in the one preseason game he played in, and will now enter the season freshly signed and worry-free. 
Good luck, Cam Ward. 
The former second-round pick by the Broncos had a breakout year for the team last season and was a big part of their top-ranked defense. He finished the year with 13.5 sacks and has 2 game-changing INT/Fumble recoveries for a touchdown late in the year. Bonitto would go on to be named 2nd team All-Pro by the Associated Press, was named to the Pro Bowl, and while teammate CB Pat Surtain II won the AP Defensive Player of the Year Award, Bonitto made a strong case for that, too.
Expectations are high for the Broncos and their defense this season, and Bonitto is their top pass rusher on the team. He dominated last season, looked explosive during the preseason, and now that he has signed his deal, he can be worry-free heading into week one against a rookie quarterback making his first-career start. 
I would anticipate Bonitto to come close, match, or even exceed his sack total from last season and lead the Broncos’ top-ranked pass rush in sacks once again. He is just as important to this defense as Pat Surtain II, and hopefully, these two can help lead the Broncos on a deep postseason run this season. 
One last thing before we finish this. We need to be thankful for the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group. Since they have bought the Broncos, they have handed out extensions to Nik Bonitto, Pat Surtain II, Quinn Meinerz, Courtland Sutton, Jonathon Cooper, Garett Bolles, and D.J. Jones while also being very active in free agency. They have locked up a talented core for the Broncos, added key free agents, and Sean Payton and George Paton have drafted very well recently.
The future is bright in Denver.

The wait is almost over. 
The kickoff to one of the most anticipated seasons for the Denver Broncos will commence on Sunday afternoon. For Sean Payton, Bo Nix, and the rest of the Broncos, it’s an opportunity to get started on the right foot. 
Heading into Denver is a Tennessee Titans squad that finished last season with three wins. Now with a rookie quarterback leading the way in Cam Ward, Brian Callahan and the Titans will look to pull the major upset. 
The Broncos enter Sunday’s game as a huge -7.5-point favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook. That is just behind the Philadelphia Eagles for the largest spread of the week. The Eagles are -8.5-point favorites over the Dallas Cowboys.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Broncos need a fast start</h2>
Denver is looking to win its first season opener since 2021, when it beat the New York Giants. Needless to say, the Broncos need a fast start to the regular season, especially with how difficult the schedule is to end the season. Denver also needs a fast start in this game. Broncos Country is going to be fired up for this game, so the Broncos need to match that. Knock the Titans on their heels from the jump. I’m thinking the exact same way Denver started the playoff game, only don’t let up. — Ian St. Clair
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Heat up Ward </h2>
Force him to make quick decisions, and he will make mistakes. Turn those mistakes into points. — Joe Mahoney
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Establish the run game early </h2>
Last year, the Titans allowed the sixth-most rushing TDs, tied for the 11th-highest YPA, and the seventh-most rushing yards. We’ll see how their revamped linebacker corps looks, but this appears to be a front seven that can be run on, especially to the outside, if Payton and company commit to it. — Taylor Kothe
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Broncos’ O-line needs to perform well</h2>
Like Ian said, starting off fast is huge. A big way to accomplish that would be the offensive line performing well. Whether it’s trying to establish the run with J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey or pass protect for Bo Nix, Denver’s offensive line needs to perform at a high level. T’Vondre Sweat and Jeffrey Simmons will be formidable foes, and it will be critical for Denver’s players, especially on the interior, to take care of business. — Christoher Hart
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Establish some connection for Bo Nix</h2>
Lean on Courtland Sutton, but open it up a bit with Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims (if he’s fully healthy). Let’s see what Nix can do with Evan Engram. Nix is surrounded by weapons, so give us a show. — Adam Malnati
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Offensive line variations</h2>
I’ll be adding to both Taylor and Hart. What I’d like to see, specifically, is Sean Payton calling a variety of Inside Zone variations (slice, wham, singleback, gun, fake orbit, etc.) early and often. I want to get those double teams working and that interior offensive line firing off the ball ASAP. Get those guys in a rhythm (particularly Ben Powers and Luke Wattenberg) and get the Tennessee DTs on their heels. — Ross Allen

With the 2025 NFL season kicking off tonight, it’s time to bring back my Hart’s Picks series. For the 2024 NFL regular season, I <a href="https://www.milehighreport.com/2025/1/10/24340919/nfl-wild-card-weekend-harts-picks">had</a> 190 correct picks with 82 incorrect picks achieving 70-percent accuracy. I’d consider that pretty good. The purposes of these weekly posts are just for fun. I’m excited to see how I do compared to last year. And I’ll just say this—by no means would this ever be gambling advice.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="k2o5Gc">Hart’s Week 1 NFL Picks</h3>
Thursday Night Football — Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles
Winner: Eagles
The 2025 NFL regular season begins with an NFC East rivalry matchup. I don’t see the Eagles, the reigning Super Bowl Champions dropping this game at home. Especially since the Cowboys traded away their best player (Micah Parsons) prior to the season.
Friday Night Football — Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs
Winner: Chiefs
On Friday night, a bigtime AFC West rivalry game is in store for football fans across the globe taking place in Brazil. The Chargers definitely got better this offseason, but they haven’t beat the Chiefs in a long time. I’m taking Kansas City.
Sunday Football (Early Game) — Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons
Winner: Buccaneers
Another game, another rivalry matchup. This NFC South battle should be fun to watch. I’m excited to see how Michael Penix Jr. does in his first full season as a starter, but think the Buccaneers take care of business on the road.
Sunday Football (Early Game) — Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns
Winner: Bengals
The Bengals started off their ’24 campaign dropping their first three games. That was crushing to their playoff aspirations, but I don’t see them losing to the Browns on the road in this AFC North rivalry matchup. I’ll take Burrow’s boys for the win.

Sunday Football (Early Game) — Miami Dolphins at Indianapolis Colts
Winner: Dolphins
Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins head to Indianapolis to take on Daniel Jones and the Colts. I think this will be a relatively close game, but once again I’ll take the road team to secure a victory.
Sunday Football (Early Game) — Carolina Panthers at Jacksonville Jaguars
Winner: Jaguars
Both the Panthers and Jaguars struggled last season. Is Bryce Young poised to make a big jump at quarterback? I’m not so sure about that. I think Trevor Lawrence, Brian Thomas Jr., and Travis Hunter help lead the Jaguars to a victory at home.
Sunday Football (Early Game) — Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots
Winner: Raiders
Pete Carroll and the Raiders travel to New England to take on the Patriots. They have revamped their defense and added budding star running back Ashton Jeanty into the mix on offense. Las Vegas hasn’t done too good on the road over the past two seasons, but I’ll pick them as a surprise winner for this game.
Sunday Football (Early Game) — Arizona Cardinals at New Orleans Saints
Winner: Cardinals
I’m not trying to make it a trend to pick most road teams to win this week, but the Saints quarterback situation doesn’t give me much faith they are going to have a good season. I’ll take the Kyler Murray led Cardinals in this matchup.

Sunday Football (Early Game) — Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Jets
Winner: Steelers
Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields have swapped teams. Both the Steelers and Jets have pretty good defenses, so I expect this to be quite the struggle. At the end of the day, I think Pittsburgh does just enough to squeak out a victory.
Sunday Football (Early Game) — New York Giants at Washington Commanders
Winner: Commanders
Another NFC East rivlary game. Can Russell Wilson help lead the Giants to victory or will Jayden Daniels and the Commanders take flight? I’ve got a good feeling Washington gets the job done at home.
Sunday Football (Late Game) — Tennessee Titans at Denver Broncos
Winner: Broncos
I’m excited to see how Cam Ward’s career turns out. In fact, I think he will be quite good. But rookie quarterbacks are historically bad on the road in their debuts and the Broncos’ defense should be one of the best in the league. I’m taking Denver.
Sunday Football (Late Game) — San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks
Winner: 49ers
This NFC West matchup should be a really good game. I’m interested to see how Sam Darnold performs with his new squad. Though I feel comfortable with Brock Purdy and the 49ers taking care of their division rival in this one. I think their defense will cause Darnold and the Seahawks’ offense a lot of problems.

Sunday Football (Late Game) — Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers
Winner: Lions
This might be the best matchup of Week 1. Two longtime NFC North foes going head-to-head at Lambeau Field will be a treat for all football fans. I’ll give a slight edge to the Lions in this one, who have been able to come out of Green Bay the past three seasons with a road victory.
Sunday Football (Late Game) — Houston Texans at Los Angeles Rams
Winner: Texans
There are some concerns about Matthew Stafford’s health. The early reports are he will play, but if he is limited in any capacity, I think DeMeco Ryans and the aggressive Texans’ defense will be able to find a way to win. Another game, another road victor prediction.
Sunday Night Football — Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills
Winner: Bills
This game is a rematch of last year’s AFC Divisional Round matchup. Both of these teams could wind up being Super Bowl contenders, but someone has to win Week 1. I’ve taken a lot of road teams this week in my predictions, though I’ll take Josh Allen and the Bills at home in this one.
Monday Night Football — Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears
Winner: Vikings
I definitely didn’t envision the Vikings having the season they did in ‘24 with Sam Darnold at quarterback. Now it’s J.J. McCarthy’s time to show their fans why he was their top pick in the ‘24 NFL Draft. Can he go head-to-head with Caleb Williams and the Bears who have a lot of offensive firepower? I believe so. I’ll give Minnesota the edge in this NFC North rivalry game.

For ages and eons, Broncos Country didn’t have much reason to be excited at the advent of a new season. Each year in passing, virtually every winning Super Bowl 50, was clouded with uncertainty. Coaching instability and an endless quarterback carousel dwarfed the team’s potential. But that was then—this is now.
It’s a start of a new chapter in the Mile High City. Last season, the Broncos secured their first playoff berth in nearly a decade. Under the leadership of Head Coach Sean Payton, the franchise has embarked in a significant turnaround. From pretenders to playoff contenders in short order. For a variety of reasons, fans across the globe are bullish about this year’s Broncos. Rightfully enamored with the mystique and possibilities Year 3 of the Payton Era may bring for the beloved orange and blue.
They say games in the National Football League are won in the trenches. That’s good news for Denver—who have talent and depth along both their offensive and defensive fronts–a good recipe for sustainable success. They also added to their tremendous secondary that already boasts the game’s best cornerback in Patrick Surtain II—the reining Defensive Player of the Year. It’s not often a team showcases Top 5 talent along multiple position groups, but a strong case could be made that this year’s Broncos do.
Quarterback Bo Nix, who enters his sophomore campaign with high expectations and the ambition to avoid a slump, has been diligent all offseason working on his craft and delving more into the mental rigors of the game. If he can improve upon his poise in the pocket, expect great things from the Broncos’ offense in ‘25. He will need some help from his teammates, but guess what? He has more friends this season. A bolstered offense with additions at running back, wide receiver, and tight end should help sustain drives and put more points on the board.
The ’25 Broncos are undoubtedly the most talented group of players the franchise has fielded in years. Though the same can be said for virtually all of their opponents. That includes their Week 1 opponent—the Tennessee Titans—who were the worst team in the National Football League in 2024. The Titans made several splashes in free agency and started off their draft swinging big on Miami signal caller Cam Ward who will make his NFL debut in Denver this weekend.
While it’s perfectly fine to be enthusiastic about the team’s potential for the entire season—first things first. Taking care of business and defeating the Titans on Sunday afternoon. The Broncos know the <a href="https://www.milehighreport.com/2024/11/1/24284483/courtland-sutton-and-denver-broncos-embracing-role-as-the-underdog">underdog status</a> all too well and cannot afford to let their Week 1 opponents pull off an upset on Sunday. After all, 1-0 looks a whole lot better than 0-1—especially with the strength of the Broncos’ opponents in ‘25.

Game week is fully in swing as the first injury report for the 2025 regular season just dropped for the Denver Broncos as they prepare to take on the Tennessee Titans. Typically, the Week 1 report is light for all teams but there is one name on Denver’s list that is adding a bit of concern: Dre Greenlaw.
<a href="https://x.com/mikeklis9news/status/1963346121134412235">Mike Klis of 9News reported</a> that Greenlaw is continuing to struggle to get healthy. He did not practice on Wednesday and spent his time on the side field. He has missed significant time all offseason and now we should be concerned he is not as far along as many had hoped with his rehab. While missing a Wednesday practice isn’t a big deal and Sean Payton did note some guys will be on ‘pitch counts’ heading into the season. Hopefully we see him practicing by Friday. The other starters dinged up in the preseason are all full participants, however, so that is the good news heading into this Sunday’s game.

The Denver Broncos first game of the season happens this Sunday when they host the Tennessee Titans. However, the 2025 NFL regular season kicks off tomorrow evening when the Dallas Cowboys square off against the Philadelphia Eagles for Thursday Night Football. With a little less than 24 hours to go before kickoff, the Broncos have announced eight captains who will lead them into battle on the gridiron for their ‘25 campaign.

On offense, quarterback Bo Nix, right guard Quinn Meinerz, and wide receiver Courtland Sutton earned the honors. All three of them were captains in 2024 as well. Of note, this year is the fifth-straight for Sutton. The longtime wideout has certainly established himself as one of Denver’s prominent leaders and is the second longest tenured member on the team behind left tackle Garett Bolles.
On defense, shutdown cornerback Pat Surtain II—the reigning Defensive Player of the Year—was voted by his teammates to be a captain for the second-straight season. That seemed like a no-brainer after what he accomplished last season and during the course of his career with the team. He is joined by the following defensive players: inside linebacker Alex Singleton, defensive tackle D.J. Jones, and Talanoa Hufanga—who was a big free agent addition at safety. Kicker Wil Lutz was chosen as the sole special teams’ player to be a captain.
Congratulations to all eight of these players being voted on by their teammates to be their leaders and captains for this coming season.
