Kyle Freeland picked up his first MLB RBI, and Freddie Freeman drove in three of the five runs for the Dodgers in the 5-0 shutout.

Clayton Kershaw was cooking and pitched six scoreless innings on Friday evening at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa Bay. The Dodgers (64-46) shutout the Rays (54-57) 5-0 in the first of three games in swampy Florida.

Freddie Freeman hit home runs in two straight games for the first time since May. The Dodgers’ first baseman drove in three of the five runs on the night.

Shane Baz struggled in a 27-pitch first inning and first career start against the Dodgers. The Dodgers cashed in a walk to Shohei Ohtani with back-to-back doubles by Will Smith and Freddie Freeman.

Freddie Freddie Freddie chants in Tampa broke out at Steinbrenner Field Friday evening before the Dodgers first baseman proceeded to knock in two runs with a double.

Clayton Kershaw worked around a Ha-Seong Kim single to pitch a scoreless first. The iconic veteran had to work more in the second inning, but he was able to strand another two runners to preserve the 2-0 lead.

The Dodgers looked to add on to their lead in the third with a flying projectile infield single by Ohtani and a free pass to Smith. Baz struck out Freddie this time followed by a Teoscar Hernández strikeout to escape without surrendering anything further.

Four more base hits against Baz plus a Betts sac fly doubled the Dodgers’ lead in the fourth.

Alex Freeland secured his first career major-league run batted in. His single in the fourth gave the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.

Freeman was half way to a cycle after he hit an 111-mph solo home run in the top of the fifth to give the Dodgers their fifth run.

A pair of morning starts, Pacific time, will end the Dodgers nine-game road trip, beginning with Saturday at 10:10 a.m. PT against the Rays.

The headliner here will be Blake Snell returning from the injured list to make his first major league start in four months. And he’ll do it in a general environment to which he is very accustomed, having pitched for the Rays for five seasons.

Fifty-one of Snell’s 213 career starts were at Tropicana Field, but the Rays aren’t playing there this year. Instead, they are playing at Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home of the Yankees. He pitched there twice before, including his second game for High-A Charlotte on June 5, 2014 in the Florida State League. Snell that day against the Tampa Yankees pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four singles and a walk, with three strikeouts.

Snell’s second game there came during spring training on March 19, 2018. He struck out nine in 4⅔ innings, allowed a run on three hits and three walks.

He Drew Rasmussen as his mound opponent in the middle game of the season. Rasmussen has a 2.96 ERA in 21 starts this season.

Keeping track of every Dodgers player on the injured list, paternity leave, bereavement, and family emergency lists all season

Every Dodgers player who ends up on the injured list during the 2025 season, we will track here. That includes the concussion IL, which is a minimum of seven days, or the standard IL, which is 10 days at minimum for position players and 15 days for pitchers, as well as the 60-day injured list.

We’ll also track players on paternity leave, the bereavement list, or the family medical emergency list. Basically any time a Dodgers player misses time that requires a roster move, we’ll note it here.

During the 2024 season, 28 different Dodgers missed time. In 2023, there were 34 such players.

Every injured list placement this season will also be chronicled on our 40-man roster page, which like this post will be updated throughout the 2025 season.

Gavin Stone was the first Dodger to land on the injured list in 2025, placed on the 60-day IL on February 11 to make roster room for the signing of Kiké Hernández. Stone is expected to miss the entire season after shoulder surgery in October.

Two days later, River Ryan was placed on the 60-day injured list to make room for Clayton Kershaw. Ryan had Tommy John surgery in August 2024 and is expected to be out for all of 2025 as well.

In finalizing their opening day roster on March 18, the Dodgers placed nine more pitchers on the injured list, including seven on the 15-day IL plus Brusdar Graterol and Michael Grove on the 60-day IL.

Kirby Yates to IL; Stewart, Gervase, Call activated

Lower back pain for Yates. All three major league players acquired Thursday by LA are now active

The Dodgers’ trade deadline wasn’t as much of a flurry as it has been in recent years, with less scrambling than usual in the aftermath of sorting out the various changes to the active roster. But this year all three additions to the 40-man roster are all active one day later, ahead of the Dodgers’ series opener against the Rays.

That’s because Kirby Yates was placed on the 15-day injured list with lower back pain, a move that was retroactive to Tuesday.

The veteran right-hander has struggled this season with a 4.31 ERA and 3.72 xERA in 39 games, even with his 32.8-percent strikeout rate. The six home runs allowed by Yates this season are double what he gave up all of last season, in nearly double the innings. He’s allowed runs in four of his last seven appearances.

This is the second IL stint this season for Yates, who missed 18 games in May and June with a right hamstring strain.

Brock Stewart and Paul Gervase were activated on Friday, as was outfielder Alex Call. The other corresponding roster moves already happened, with the previously active James Outman and Dustin May both traded away on Thursday.

When it comes to the Dodgers bullpen, the most-used relief corps in the sport, fresh arms are crucial. Stewart, who gives the depleted bullpen extra right-handed help, has only pitched twice in the previous eight days, having pitched last on Sunday and Monday. Gervase has only pitched once in the previous nine days, having thrown two scoreless innings for Triple-A Durham with three strikeouts last Friday.

Stewart allowed two runs in July after allowing two runs in June, and he has walked only one of his last 30 batters faced.

Once Stewart and/or Gervase get into a game, they’ll add to the 37 different pitchers already used by the Dodgers this season. The only team to use more pitchers in 2025 are the Mets, who through Thursday have used 39 pitchers.

Call had a pair of multi-hit games for the Nationals in the last week, including a home run last Saturday against the Twins. The righty-hitting Call wasn’t used in a strict platoon with Washington, but he did start 25 of 28 games against left-handed starting pitchers, and started 29 of 80 games against right-handers.

The Dodgers this weekend are scheduled to face three right-handed Rays starters, with Shane Baz on Friday, Drew Rasmussen on Saturday, and Joe Boyle on Sunday. Call isn’t in the Friday lineup for the series opener.
