Their reflections offer a clear call to action for institutions and educators: equip students not just with tools, but with the confidence and frameworks to navigate AI critically and creatively.

 44.
Many students described AI as a supportive, empowering companion—one that enables deeper learning and independence rather than replacing the learning process.

 45.
“AI isn’t a shortcut; it’s a scaffold… We’re not trying to outsource our brains; we’re trying to augment them.”

 141.
As more members of Generation Z transition into their careers, new questions are emerging about the role of AI in the workplace and how Gen Z can best prepare for it.

 142.
Ourmedia partnered with IDEO to engage with a diverse group of Gen Z leaders from various backgrounds and career paths to explore their perspectives on the future of work and Artificial Intelligence. We discovered that while Gen Z sees AI as a tool with the potential to enhance their creative expression and efficiency at work, they are highly concerned about its impact on human agency and the potential displacement of workers.

 143.
These young leaders expressed fears that opportunities for entry-level and internship roles—essential stepping stones that previous generations relied on to launch their careers—could diminish as AI becomes more prevalent in the workplace. They emphasized that some of the most valuable experiences in their early careers have come from roles that allowed room for error and provided opportunities to learn from colleagues.

 144.
This concern is echoed throughout various sectors of the workforce and career development landscape. When you ask successful Boomers and Gen Xers about the key moments in their professional growth, it’s clear that finding mentors, learning to collaborate on teams, and being challenged with new tasks early in their careers were critical to their success.

 145.
However, an increasingly remote work environment, combined with AI-driven process streamlining, could disrupt these traditional opportunities. This disruption might leave the next generation fundamentally underprepared for long-term career success. It’s essential to recognize that AI-driven changes in the future of work will bring a fundamental shift in how young people learn and grow in their careers.

 146.
Employers, educational institutions, and nonprofits supporting young people in their career transitions must explore new approaches to career growth and development for young professionals. This process starts with sparking dialogue around the future of work that centers the voice of Generation Z; we must ask today’s young people what makes them excited, anxious, or uncertain about their futures, and then act accordingly to prepare them for success.

 162.

Representing one of the older generations, I know how important it is that we contribute to supporting the next emerging generation, Gen Z. Some have described me as a business artist. Having lived in Silicon Valley most of my life I have seen the speed of innovation on the front lines as I started companies, ran a global public company, and helped support the creation of the electronics and software industry, while growing my family and keeping up with my lifetime passion for music.

 163.
The rate of innovation continues to accelerate and that will require us to use our imagination to adapt to the resulting changes in work, life, and learning. Many are already applying AI to improve efficiencies in how we get things done today , but there is less emphasis on how we can use our imagination to come up with new and creative ways to use AI to serve us in all aspects of our life. Take music as an example: will we use these new AI tools to replace music makers or will we leverage the capabilities of these tools to help us amplify our imagination and support our own musical efforts?

 164.
This is not to say that people aren’t rightfully concerned about AI in general. Unchecked, it could be exploited to give more power to the few. I believe that we need a countervailing force, using AI for creative inspiration for the many. I’ve been encouraged to help provide leadership around this by several in my network to explore how creativity combined with technology can offer us a better path forward.

 165.
In my last post I shared how I recently brought the voice of ChatGPT into the process of helping me create and craft a song for my daughter’s wedding. . ChatGPT gave me a jump start, enabling me to develop the song with a co-producer and artists in just six weeks. In an upcoming series of articles, I plan to bring music/art, technology, and business together in exploring AI and creativity. Here are some examples that I plan to share to encourage you to explore this topic yourself:

 166.

 167.
Personal Authenticity – What can we explore with AI that helps us as individuals advance our potential in work, life, and learning?

 168.
Small group or teaming with AI – What are our roles, how do we bridge the geographical distance to achieve more, and how can we effectively use prompt engineering to help?

 169.
Setting context – Simulating the potential of AI for work, life, and learning.

 170.

 171.
This is being posted to Ourmedia with funding and volunteer support from a few individuals who are dedicated to exploring how we can apply creativity to AI while helping us all develop skills that can be applied to work, life, and learning. We would like to encourage more of you to get involved. We would love to have your support, volunteering, mentoring young people, and speaking up to develop a community of builders who are interested in creating a more collective voice in how we leverage this technology. This is not about the one but the many.

 172.
In particular, we are interested in helping surface the voices of Gen Z. While we don’t yet have the answers as to how to best do this, we are beginning our exploration with determining how we might be able to help prepare them for the 2030s. Capitalizing on our own successes, we are providing mentorship opportunities to young people with the hopes of setting them up to succeed. We are doing this with students, partners, and other businesses today.

 173.
We have lost 20-30% of our middle class in the last 20 years. What if we could rebuild it for the 2030s to better serve us in work, life, and learning? There will be many people focusing on improving efficiencies through AI, which will likely lead to the loss of many jobs. We believe that paving a path forward that combines creativity with AI can create new jobs and contribute to helping rebuild the middle class. Please lean in, send us your thoughts, and jump in with us.

The post Join the Movement: AI’s Transformative Role for Generation Z first appeared on Ourmedia.org.

We’re standing at a crossroads where we can either harness the potential to benefit society at large, or we can risk letting individuals weaponize it for their own advantage. I am hopeful that as a society we’ll choose the former and have begun my own exploration of leveraging AI as a creative collaborative partner. Let me illustrate this partnership through a profoundly personal example: co-writing a song for my daughter’s wedding that touched my heart and soul, thanks to help from AI.

 189.
I’ve been a guitar player since the age of seven, yet I’d never taken the leap to write the lyrics and melody of a song. ChatGPT-4 helped me overcome what people call the “cold start,” giving me the nudge I needed to take on this daunting but exciting task. By creating targeted prompts based on my daughter and her fiancé’s interests, I was able to train the tool to generate lyrics that provided a great jump start in shaping the song. The initial output was verbose and lacked a simplified, repetitive chorus that is at the heart of many well-loved songs, but it was enough to move my wife to tears and encourage me to proceed. I used the AI-generated lyrics as a jumping off point, crafting a chorus and adding details that brought in a sense of human emotion.

 190.
Influenced by the wedding couple, Rachel and Phil’s taste for R&B, my co-writer, Jorge Costa, laid down a basic musical structure inspired by the couple’s love of R&B. From there, I refined the lyrics ChatGPT generated to better fit this musical foundation. Leveraging GLX Studio, Jorge and I collaborated remotely, sharing session files, collecting feedback, and connecting over video calls to shape the song into its final form.

 191.
The process, from start to finish, was a powerful experience. Working with ChatGPT and Jorge in this way boosted my confidence and underscored the significance of designing an enjoyable creative process. And this meaningful endeavor would have been far more challenging and time-consuming without the assistive power of generative AI. We were able to produce a soul-stirring song in under six weeks — no easy feat! I invite you to share this experience by listening to our creation (linked below). My collaboration with Jorge came about through our efforts with Through the Noise, a song making collective that provides song makers a place to connect and collaborate.

 192.
Writing my daughter’s wedding song with the help of ChatGPT was just my first foray into experimenting with how generative AI tools can be used for good. Going forward, I’m excited to further explore how generative AI can be used to bolster the creative process — and further develop my skills as it pertains to the creative use of AI.

 193.
(Writing the song with ChatGPT’s help may have been my first time using the tool in this way, but it’s certainly not the last. In fact, this article you just read was generated with its help as well!)

 194.
Feel free to listen to our song and share your thoughts. 209.

Will you be in your 30’s in the 2030’s? We want your voice to define what we can do to help support and encourage the next generation of leaders to help shape our future and rebuild our middle class. The rate of technological change is accelerating, our Democracy is being pressure tested, and our security is being challenged. There’s a lot to be unsettled about, but with the right combination of resource, experience, and opportunity, we can do something about it. We believe there is an immediate need to start by making sense of how AI can better serve us in work, life and learning.

 210.
Everyone is recognizing that AI will have a long lasting impact on us for better or worse. We need to lean in to better understand how it can contribute to rebuilding a more sustainable economy that helps balance the needs of Americans, wherever they live, whatever their upbringing, whatever their economic success, whatever their service to this nation. Ourmedia has been surfacing the voice of Generation Z as well as those in the business world to consider what questions and prompts should be explored, understood, and prioritized for success. We are developing a roadmap outlining how to best serve the generation that will find themselves in their 30’s in the 2030’s.

 211.
What if we had a filter that would help us align Quality Leadership with the life we would like to live in the 2030’s? The decade will bring challenges, but with concerted efforts also hopefully innovative ways to align in building a better future together. Our middle class has been compressed over the last 50 years, leaving us less competitive as a nation and facing greater struggles across society. It is no longer only the responsibility of our politicians, business leaders, educational advocates, and nonprofits. Rather it is up to us to decide whether we care to lean into taking responsibility, stand up, and do something. Quality leadership has always been about determining the common ground that brings us together to share in success. In a world that increasingly attempts to define human potential in terms of increasingly shrinking boxes, we need to challenge ourselves to turn attention towards breaking out of these mindsets. Please join us to help rally around quality leadership for a better work, life and learning journey.

 212.
At Ourmedia.org we are bringing together the emerging generation, guided by older generations, to surface quality leadership for the 2030’s and redefine our 21st Century priorities together to bring a better balance to work, life and learning. We just had a donor offer matching donations of $50K and would love to have you join us with your voice or donation. We are experienced leaders and proud citizens that want to take responsibility.

The post A Call to Join Us first appeared on Ourmedia.org.

 227.
Amidst the current hype and optimism surrounding the emergence of a new way to operate on the internet lies a strain of criticism that ranges from benevolent skepticism to outright condemnation. Some, most prominently Twitter’s former CEO Jack Dorsey, call bullshit on the new wave of technological change embodied by token-based economies and decentralized autonomous organizations. These opponents call decentralization a “rhetorical trick”, a way to get people excited and drawn in about the promise of ownership of their data without ceding any of the concentration of wealth and power that plagued Web2.0. In this post we will examine not the technical aspects of decentralization on the web, but rather a dimension that has been underrepresented in the conversation: the ethical implications and invisible barriers that lie beneath Web3.0’s utopian sheen.

 228.
A major driver of criticism is the market-focused ideology informing its uses. There exists a massive chasm between decentralization as a utopian ideal and current practical applications. As many have pointed out, the current profit-centering of decentralized technologies is simply an “obedient continuation of ‘market-ize all the things’”. The moral issues that arise from using this software solely to increase profits have yet to be addressed meaningfully. Rather, and what I argue is more dangerous, decentralized platforms are being put forth in terms that idealize them as a fix for some of the issues presented to modern society while no actual steps are being taken in pursuit of this goal.

 229.
Another issue is that the idealization of decentralized platforms as ‘permissionless’ obscures invisible but significant barriers to entry that currently exist. The argument being made by leading tech entrepreneurs, which maps perfectly onto the broader conversation surrounding technology’s impact on society, is that they can be used by anyone to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. The reality however contradicts this: in practice, it requires an abundance of resources, time, and access to the internet to build a successful entry into Web3 spaces.

 230.
This discourse is idealistic to the point of being harmful. A recent interview with the father of Web3.0, Gavin Wood, illustrates this disconnect perfectly. When asked about the reality that most individuals likely would not be able to teach themselves how to succeed in these spaces, Wood responded that “You can be in a random little village in India, that just happens to have an internet point, and you can learn JavaScript in a week”. As someone whose grandfather came from one of these ‘random little villages in India,’ I can tell you firsthand that there are likely no individuals who, between keeping a roof over their heads and their children fed, are banking on their entry into the world of crypto being the solution to their problems. On a note closer to home, most Americans right now, are not focusing on getting a piece of this admittedly exciting, new pie. They are instead trying to afford groceries, gas, insurance; the list goes on.

 231.
The current demographic distribution of entrepreneurs involved in these spaces does not reflect a new, dramatic societal shift, which is the vision evoked by the language thought leaders in these spaces use to describe decentralization. Rather, the distribution mirrors offline social dynamics. While there are some impressive uses of the technology to uplift individuals from marginalized backgrounds such as DEI initiatives on the platforms and the use of DAOs as mutual aid funds, these remain dots of color in a sea that is predominantly white, male, and wealthy.

 232.
Tech idealists present decentralization as a remedy for the ills of society. They point to a new power being put in the hands of the people, both socially and economically. In their haste to declare Web3.0 the future of healthy democracy and economic equality, they conveniently ignore the fact that it is this environment that they were created in and thrive upon.

 233.
This criticism of Wood and his brainchild is not to condemn Web3.0 as another exercise in capitalism that’s built-to-fail. It is, however, to warn of building a future based on the theories of benevolent tech dictators without a clear and persistent effort to orient these technologies towards the segments of society that need it. Zuckerberg’s fantasy of the Metaverse was his own. He mistook his monopoly on power for popular support. We must challenge this power, and channel it into avenues that actually address our failing democracy and the persistent plague of poverty and hatred that rising inequality has brought forth.

 234.
While many are trying to solve the technical barriers facing Web3.0, few have presented meaningful solutions to address these invisible barriers or their ethical implications. Part of this is due to the fact that decentralization on the web is still in its infancy, but a good deal lies in the fact that discourse around these platforms doesn’t see these immaterial limitations as valid. This fixation on ‘making it work’, though obviously crucial, detracts from thinking critically about who we are making “it” work for. It is time to reject the idea of innovation for innovation’s sake.

 235.
When pressed, tech idealists will acknowledge these limitations, as Wood does in the aforementioned interview, but on the whole the tendency is to frame decentralized technology as infallible. This idealism fosters an unwillingness to consider any practical application of decentralized technologies to address inequality or the current breakdown of democracy. It is both unethical and deceptive to purport a piece of technology to have a wealth of social opportunities without ever taking meaningful action in pursuit of these opportunities. Put simply, where we look shapes what we find.

 236.
I have hope that this new wave of decentralization could be meaningful, that it could change the way we see each other. I see a world that gets better, one in which we have trust in and love for each other. My own personal cynical tendencies, along with every single year of life that I can remember, tells me it probably won’t. What I’m realizing though is that sitting back and analyzing a world that could be, while at times helpful, doesn’t do anything. It’s time to chart this path ourselves.

We hope to encourage your participation in helping us to solve some of the challenges of our day to redefine the 21st Century Economy. The great conundrum, and an invitation to solve it…

 252.

 253.
Why does an increased national polarization, juxtaposed with Web 3.0 and a growing urgency for much more “Tech for Good,” offer you an opportunity? Well, driven by America’s mounting culture of valuing the individual over the neighborhood, a disruptive shift toward the good needs to happen. What would Gen Z want Web3 to provide them to support a better future? Jamie Diamond, with J.P. Morgan, recently said it best, that “stakeholder” interest should be more balanced with “shareholder” interest. We can meet the moment.

 254.
Why you and I should immediately want to do something is weighed against a backdrop of data from the past two years that shows that bad behavior is trending up, and that philanthropy, church attendance and environmental health are going downhill. With alarm, you’ve noticed that something darker and deeper seems to be happening as well, featuring a long-term loss of solidarity with a long-term rise in alienation. Now we have war.

 255.
Ideally, despite all of its acknowledged downsides, technology that you and I possess—and that we’ve actually helped to develop, either directly or indirectly—is about to be re-directed into “Tech for Good.” This can be a pivot point for our society. You’re joining a mainstream, nonpartisan group whose members have spanned from the U.N., World Bank, tech companies, non-profits as well as storytellers from Hollywood to personal media, there’s a broad commitment from across our society; and we have experience in bringing these together.

 256.

 257.
Here is how you can help.

 258.
We need to come out of the Pandemic with a more balanced 21st Century Economy. First, we’ve adapted to change more in the past 24 months—and at a faster pace—than we ever have. As agents of that change, you and I can appreciate how remarkable that accomplishment is. Going forward, the space between the physical and digital world will continue to shrink. As a result, new opportunities will materialize with greater frequency, and with immeasurable impact. Through actionable dialogue, we can help determine whether that’s to become a good thing, or not.

 259.
Is technology the center of the universe, no. Rather, you and I are the center, and we should view technology as having a seat at the table, not at the center of our experience. What might that look like? We all discuss information overload, and with the rate of change accelerating we need to have positions to deal with this because it is distracting us from our most fulfilling lives. Redefining the role of Information, Communication and Technology together.

 260.
Second, is it possible for us to reboot for the 21st Century? If so, the potential gained from this tack may be your and my greatest fighting chance yet. We can come together to redefine how to make this a success. You’ll probably agree that potential is the common measure for all of us. Yet, in this case, it will always remain a mere fraction—substantially less than one—without the denominator of our collective effort. With your proven background, you already have a lot going for you, but we offer a way to finding a way to apply that potential to this new problem. That’s why we request your engagement.

 261.
You may have observed that it often takes a crisis to help us change strategy and behavior. In turn, with change comes an abundance of opportunity. And that’s when and how we can actually exceed our potential.

 262.
As the front lines are being turned upside down, and transformations are accelerating because of technology, the rate of change is moving too fast for business, government and society to adapt vigorously. But you possess experience in building out the technology industry that has powered the economy for the past 50 years. You recognize it’s been used for good, but now increasingly weaponized for self-indulgence.

 263.
To keep them from breaking bad, an updated system of communications, new behaviors, governance and accountability must be made to exist. Or, as Jamie Diamond of J.P. Morgan cites, “Stakeholder” interests. To reach our potential, at stake is nothing less than the future of education, business, the environment, faith, and society.

 264.
The next generation is shaping up and will determine the future of how we engage and serve our business and social interests. Those of us that are from the 20th century should lean in to add a helping voice for the next generation. Information, Communication and Technology can benefit.

 265.
Teamed with your valuable background, the following are examples of experiences that we can bring to the toolchest:

 266.

 267.
Over 20 years ago we developed some of the first cloud platforms, real time communications, and decentralized computing. Those potential advancements for society are now being launched across the market as we head into the Metaverse, AI, Crypto and Quantum computing—many of which were pioneered by our network of business and technology leaders. Among these, decentralized computing significantly enhances how we as individuals can connect to each other, consume information that is trusted, and take actions together.

 268.
To boost personal performance for networks of thousands, our team introduced AI to social commerce interactions. We pioneered some of the first Podcasts, built by our community of early adopters for communicating with digital media. We helped to activate the community of the first videobloggers before YouTube, established the first social network to advance ocean sustainability, constructed an early marketplace for conducting social commerce with AI-guided digital engagement and video technology, plus much more. We now have available to us so many open API’s and tools to redefine our commercial and social interactions for a Regenerative Economy.

 269.
As these examples are intended to illustrate, we have spent decades building a deep network of relationships and would like you to join us to define and advance 21st Century economics for Stakeholder interests—that’s all of us.

 270.

 271.
In summary, with your participation, in the first 90 days we’ll bring together voices from the community to develop a three-year road map that will detail in a transparent way what we will accomplish together after a series of listening posts and a plan is agreed to a shared with the community in the summer of 2022. Milestones will include establishment of a joint purpose and culture, and an approach for Decentralized Organizations that re-enforces how tech can best support humanity. To serve our interests, this is a 501c3. We are gathering the GenZers to bring their voice to this. We need your help.

 272.
This very well may be your and my best chance to help revive both our immediate and broader communities, employing something that you and I have built our lives around—Tech for Good. We invite your participation and donations. Please share with us your contact information and what you would like to help contribute to defining how we strive for a better work-life balance.

 273.
Two heads are better than one. Can we please talk?

 291.
On July 13th and 14th Outhink is sponsoring an event with the SEMI trade association. This event is being directed by the President of North America, Dave Anderson. SEMI just celebrated 50 years that powered the global economy. That really is amazing when one thinks about how pervasive electronics around in our lives and at the core is Semiconductor technology and those that market the equipment and materials that bring us new technologies at a more rapid rate every year. How do we adapt to this rapid change?

 295.
Digital Leadership – Embracing the Buyer Evolution

 296.
Cheryl Cook | Senior Vice President, Embedded and Edge Solutions Marketing | Dell Technologies

 297.
The last year has seen an acceleration in digitally enabled buying experiences, AI and data-driven personalized content, and innovations that drive human progress such as telehealth, remote work, and curbside retail. Today we bring these digital expectations we have as consumers to work, in both our professional buying decisions as well as to our work environments. In this session, Cheryl Cook, SVP, Global Partner Marketing at Dell Technologies, will share how to adapt and embrace this change: from enabling your teams, to creating an agile work environment, to leading through change to deliver what your customers want in a digital-first world.

 298.
Trustworthy AI: Reinventing the Core of Today Enterprise by a Human-centered AI Strategy

 299.
Seth Dobrin, PhD | Global Chief AI Officer | IBM

 300.
The biggest barrier companies face today to drive AI adoption is no longer the technology itself but rather a challenge encompassing AI Ethics, data and AI governance, and the creation of an inclusive and diverse ecosystem. In this session, Dr. Seth Dobrin—IBM first-ever Global Chief AI Officer— will share how he leads IBM’s AI strategy by a framework designed for trustworthy AI that aims to address the most urgent challenges businesses face today around regulations, trust, and AI Ethics. Dr. Dobrin will talk about how he combined his expertise in AI in the context of business with a human-centered approach rooted in the value of diversity and inclusiveness to design a trailblazing AI strategy aligning human needs to business intents. Over the session, you will hear how Dr. Dobrin’s strategy enables IBM and IBM’s customers to generate real value better, cheaper, and faster by the development of trusted AI solutions through continuous delivery of concrete business outcomes.

 301.
The Challenge of Change

 302.
John Hagel | Founder Beyond Our Edge, LLC. | Futurist, Best Selling Author

 303.
We live in a world of accelerating change, but the challenge is that rapid change generates fear, and fear often leads people to become resistant to change. Leaders often intensify this fear by resorting to a “burning platform” message. To embrace change, we need to focus on inspiring opportunities that will motivate people to boldly move forward in spite of fear.

 304.
Managing Supply Chains Through a Pandemic, Chip Shortage & More

 305.
Bindiya Vakil CEO and Co-Founder, Resilinc

 306.
Resilinc CEO Bindiya Vakil is credited with bringing supply chain risk management into the mainstream. Vakil has helped transform the way that global organizations approach supply chain visibility and risk; driving them to shift from reactively addressing catastrophic supply chain events to putting preventative solutions in place through monitoring, mapping, and planning. She is a founding member of the Global Supply Chain Resiliency Council and a member of the Advisory Board of MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics.

 307.
Vakil holds a master’s degree in supply chain management from MIT and an MBA in Finance. As a supply chain expert, she’s appeared on nationally syndicated TV, radio, and print media.

 308.
We will be introducing some exciting capabilities around mobile engagement to continue this conversation after the event is over to keep the conversation alive. We’ll be back with more on this later. For now we are working to bring together a select group of participants from the SEMI membership to participate in an AI Design Workshop that will be provided by IBM. An exciting approach to learn and apply techniques with AI and what questions you want it to help you answer.

The post Innovation in a Transforming World first appeared on Ourmedia.org.

 322.

Coming from Silicon Valley and being able to observe the contribution of those that have passed through the valley I have learned so much about the notion of problem solving and how tech can be applied to accelerate innovation and transformation. I’m not going to review what so many already have. Technology in support of our human needs. My hope is to share some basic principles that you can consider and hopefully apply in what you do in your lives today. With the Pandemic they say that digital transformation has accelerated. In order for so many to survive the choppy waters we are all trying to navigate we must learn to be adaptive to the rapid changes of the day. It is not easy, but there are some simples considerations to help lead us to the other side.

 323.
I mentioned the valley is founded on problem solving. Engineers are great at finding the root cause of problems and finding innovative solutions. This takes us out of our comfort zone. In the old days it used to take thousands to craft and build solutions to big problems. This made Silicon Valley a very competitive community wanting to prove we could solve more sophisticated problems from what our peers solving. This is great if you can afford it. Most cannot. Having had to innovate with global distributed teams across several generations of Moore’s Law we learned a lot that can be applied to our present circumstance.

 324.
While it is great to have vision for where technology can be applied to solve problems, the power of all the sources of information around us provides a new way to take small steps that you can build on. Understanding how data and micro services will grow rapidly going forward. Having your North Star (vision) helps deliver leadership in markets. Now we can innovate in small steps that can build large movements. Whether it is Slack that started with a small team, got feedback and iterated a solution that was valuable to hundreds of thousands, or Google that starts with small steps and builds on them until they have found adoption of new capabilities, one must consider how to do this for business, education and social impact. Participative Innovation. Small steps can be taken to leverage technology is a practice we all must become comfortable with. Artificial Intelligence is surrounding us and we have a very low literacy rate around this technology and yet it is diffusing into our lives everywhere. This is the problem that we should be diving into, to better understand the Future of Work and for that matter life. More to come……

 325.
For now if you want more pay a visit to John Hagel

The post Artificial Intelligence to Accelerate Team Innovation first appeared on Ourmedia.org.
