43.
The Shoshone-Bannock Tribe and Fort Hall officials say the Lincoln Creek fire, which has also been called the Garden Creek Fire, expanded to over 1,000 acres Tuesday evening. Fire Chief Eric King of the Fort Hall Fire Department said in a 6:30 p.m. press conference that the fire, which started at 12:30 p.m., has burned from Garden Creek to the Blackfoot River, and is 0% contained. “We’ve had several homes that are in the area that are being threatened,” King said.

44.
45.
46.
47.
Shoshone Bannock Tribes Emergency Management Coordinator Feliciana Fullmer said the evacuation order for residents living near Presto Road, Little Indian Canal Road, and those near Wolverine Creek has been lifted. A burn ban is also in place, except for ceremonial purposes or when using propane grills. Those using fireworks are asked to use caution.

48.
49.
50.
51.
King said multiple agencies are working on the blaze. He said some of them are North Bannock County, the Shelley-Firth Fire Department, the Blackfoot Fire Department, and the federal Bureau of Land Management. A large number of aircraft are also being used to fight the fire. Community members are asked to stay away from the area and refrain from flying their drones.

52.
53.
54.
55.
The weather has also had an impact, with winds in the area where the blaze is ongoing reaching up to 35 mph as the fire pushes toward the northeast and the Wolverine Creek area. King said they are investigating the cause of the fire, but have received reports that it may be man-made. Crews are working to the northeast of the fire, where fire retardant has been laid out, and dozers are clearing the area to create a fire line.

56.
57.
58.
59.
The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office assisted in helping evacuate 400 youth from an LDS Youth Camp, located at Sellars Creek Ranch. Bingham County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jordyn Nebeker said the camp was occupied by a group of Latter-day Saint youth from Utah. Due to the possibility of the fire encroaching on the camp, the sheriff’s department enlisted the aid of Teton Stage Lines in Idaho Falls, who sent 10 buses to evacuate the youth.

85.

86.
Following thunderstorms on Tuesday, ODF responded to numerous reports of smoke and fire. A few of these were found to be not fires and others were quickly stopped. All these reports, ODF responded to these fires with the help of several resources including their detection center.

87.
88.
89.
90.
Natalie Weber, Public Information Officer for ODF Southwest Oregon District states the center is a huge tool when trying to catch fires. “ A huge resource when we have lightning busts like this where we may have multiple fires across the district, um, because it allows us to have eyes on those strike areas immediately.”

91.
92.
93.
94.
The center has thirty cameras looking at the Southwest Oregon District in Jackson and Josephine County seven days a week. By looking at all the cameras it provides an advantage to the detection center as they can find fires or smoke more quickly and notice the dispatch center.

95.
96.
97.
98.
Each person in the center has their own separate role. Whether it is looking for smoke in Jackson or Josephine County and then there are people overlooking that whole district. Those roles are overlapped when someone has to report a fire. This highlights how massive of a resource this is when it comes to lighting fires.

99.
100.
101.
102.
“ It’s incredibly important for us to get on them as fast as we possibly can with the resources needed to put them out and put them to bed” says Weber.

133.
VIDEO/PHOTOS: It almost looks like a video game. But this technology – and these flames – are very real. A pallet fire was set on purpose, as part of a test conducted by students and faculty at the University of Maryland. The team of engineers designed a flying firefighter – a drone that can both detect and suppress wildfires before they get out of control. “These fires are becoming more intense,” Arnaud Trouvé, professor and chair of the fire protection engineering department at the University of Maryland, told WMAR-2 News. “This uses less resources and less fuel just to actually get to the fire,” added Lindon Luu, a student at UMD studying to get his Masters of Science in fire protection engineering. They’ve dubbed the technology “Crossfire” and submitted it to a four-year, $11 million dollar competition called “XPRIZE Wildfire.” The contest tasks teams from around the world with developing new wildfire-fighting technologies.

164.
VIDEO: When temperatures rise in Arizona, first responders prepare for the worst. A lot of dangerous scenarios happen in our mountains where hikers get lost, get seriously sick or even die in the extreme heat. In the mountains, in town, or more rural areas, helicopters are often brought in, but not all of them can operate in the extreme heat. However, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office has upgraded a Vietnam War-era aircraft from 1973 with modern technology to handle temperatures of up to 120 degrees.

165.
166.
167.
168.
“This is a UH1 Victor that we converted over to a Huey 2,” said Luis Mundo, the Director of Maintenance. Sheriff Ross Teeple, a former PCSO Search and Rescue lieutenant, describes it as a “flying tank.” It’s become the pride and joy of the department. Earlier this month, the Huey 2 was used to help rescue a hiker from Mount Lemmon in Tucson and a woman who was lost in a Sedona canyon for days.

169.
170.
171.
172.
Sheriff Teeple said his search and rescue crew was called in to help other counties because their rescue aircraft could not handle the heat. “The altitude is the biggest one. The hotter it gets, the less dense it air) is. Because it is less dense, we cannot release as much lift which requires more power,” said Mundo. rescue aircraft don’t have. “Because of that, we’re able to operate at a higher temperature such as 120, 118, 119. That’s where our charts max out,” said Mundo.

203.
VIDEO: It’s a day they hope never comes, but one they must be ready to meet. First responders from around Puget Sound trained Tuesday for a potential multi-site terror attack on greater Seattle. The focus of the training was to make sure that everyone in the air and on the ground was communicating. “Everybody being on the same page, getting them talking together, getting the assignment of the missions flowing, and getting everybody effective and efficient,” said Einar Espeland, a Snohomish County deputy who ran the operation. “That’s what it’s all about.” Among the targets in the mock attack was a skyscraper in downtown Seattle.

204.
205.
206.
207.
A helicopter carrying a Seattle Fire Department high-rise rescue team launched to pull people from the simulated wreckage. That helicopter talked to a ground crew huddled around laptops in a mobile Seattle Police communications headquarters where local, county, state and federal teams were tracked and coordinated. “It’s difficult to try to get everybody to communicate with the command busses, the different agencies, the aircraft,” said Espeland. “It’s a lot to figure out.” The crews were training for real-life scenarios, and for a few minutes during the drill, real life happened. A 911 call came in about a missing child with autism in the Snohomish area.

238.
VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Personal fireworks started a brush fire in the Hazelwood neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, according to Portland Fire & Rescue. Around 1:15 p.m. PF&R posted on Twitter that the fire had spread to the exterior of a home. Fireworks have been banned in Portland since 2022 “for this very reason,” wrote PF&R. About 30 minutes later crews had extinguished the fire. There were no reported injuries. Photos shared by PF&R showed a row of trees along a fence completely charred and blackened. It’s not clear if the home on the other side of the fence was damaged.

297.
VIDEOS/PHOTOS: The Portland Firefighters Association says many local departments are still reeling after learning of the heinous killing of two Coeur d’Alene firefighters. “My heart just sank. It’s an absolute tragedy to learn about this horrific incident. It just absolutely breaks my heart for the community and for the firefighters and their families,” said Portland Firefighters Association President Isaac McLennan. McLennan has been a firefighter in Portland for 23 years and said acts like these targeting firefighters are thankfully extremely rare.

298.
299.
300.
301.
“Obviously, we have to be concerned with the scene that we go on and always kind of keep an eye for scene safety. But generally speaking, our safety concerns are on the incident itself,” he said, noting that is particularly true when responding to a wildfire versus a home or a place where they are aware there may be volatile individuals at the scene. Portland Fire and Rescue has bulletproof vests on every unit because they may be dispatched along with police to incidents such as standoffs that require this, but McLennan pointed out that it would never occur to him to wear one when responding to a wildfire.

302.
303.
304.
305.
“You want to be kind of light, you know. It’s a wildfire. You are moving up difficult terrain. I mean, look at the terrain in this incident. It’s steep terrain. You want to be light. You want to have good boots. You want to be able to perspire and let your body do its job to keep you cool. Bulletproof vests would certainly slow you down, make you more tired and exhausted, potentially endanger your own life,” he said.

332.
Multiple explosions obliterated a fireworks facility Tuesday in the Esparto area of Yolo County, causing nearby evacuations and power outages. It began with a call of a structure fire at 5:49 p.m. along County Road 23 and County Road 86A. As LiveCopter 3 was heading to the area, it could already see a massive plume of black smoke from miles away. Flames forced the fireworks to ignite, leading to several explosions engulfing at least two homes and several vehicles on the property, also leading to nearby spot vegetation fires.

333.
334.
335.
336.
Cal Fire named one of the fires the Oakdale Fire, which started at 6:02 p.m. As of 6:45 a.m., it has burned at least 78.3 acres. Reporter Mike TeSelle is back at the scene Wednesday morning and did not see large active flames, only lingering smoke. If the acreage does change for the Oakdale Fire, it is unlikely to be a significant change. The explosions posed a danger to firefighters who responded to the area, and crews had to push back and let the fire burn as explosions ravaged the facility for hours.

337.
338.
339.
340.
In a press briefing just after 9 p.m., Esparto Fire Protection District Chief Curtis Lawrence said that crews would maintain a safe perimeter around the main fire throughout the night, while putting out spot fires around the area. Cal Fire crews who were responding to a fire in Vacaville, around 25 miles away, told KCRA 3 that they saw the smoke plume and began directing personnel that way. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the building that exploded was a warehouse storing fireworks.
