So I ask, doesn't Google News look like an article directory of some kind?

I only mention this because when I submit my articles for online marketing, I often wonder if they will appear in Google News. 9 times out of 10 they do! In fact, they usually appear within 48 hours of being indexed from other related websites.

How does Google News choose its content?

Currently, it appears that "news hubs" and "press release companies" related to your industry on the Internet are benefiting from these search results. When you think about it, wouldn't a press release be a form of news anyway? Maybe…

If you take a closer look at the websites that offer content on Google News, you'll notice that only a few offer all the results. Once again, the Google News algorithm may still be in its infancy and will likely have many uphill battles to overcome.

It may be in Google's interest to assemble a team of experts in different fields to accept submitted articles/news in order to keep the news source within Google's domain.

Only a small part of the results is displayed:

As you search the GN section, you'll also notice that a relatively small portion of the actual search results appear. Only a fraction of a percentage of the results are included in GN search results compared to the same results in regular search results on the Google home page.

Only the sections on the left provide real news in real time. These are: The best global stories for health and technical sports business/science. These links provide real-time results from trusted online news sources.

Google News Alerts - Ezine Anyone?

When you think about it, you give Google your email address to get articles related to your search term delivered to your inbox, how is this different from any other regular newsletter? Will we start to see Google Adwords in news alerts? Would you consider giving large companies the opportunity to advertise within their email alerts as a single email? I do not want.

Increasingly, we see a little more of Google than we knew before and love it (a search bar with great results). Since Google's IPO, the GG development team has been launching online applications that have started to resemble what we now know as the great Yahoo web portal.

Will there be a difference? Mostly not.

A great point about Google News:

They have given you the ability to customize your page to display any news topic you want. Just look on the right hand side for a button that says "Customize this page NEW!". Once you click on this link, a dropdown box will show you all the top topics you have listed on your page. Just click on the theme you want to customize or remove. Best of all, you can click Add a Custom Section and simply search for the topic you want to feature on your page.
