29.

 30.
So leading up to the Domino V10 launch we have been working with the IBM Domino V10 team to create a demo of a heritage Notes App being modernised as a REACT App running on Node with Domino still in the backend as the database store. We also helped the team to integrate their Demo Domino 10 apps with Office365 in a seamless manner.

 31.

 32.

 33.

 34.
The really awesome part of this is that organisations using Notes & Domino can modernise their applications with no disruption to their daily business processes, and they can pick of the high value apps (using Application Insights!) to modernise components or the full apps themselves. You can bring to your heritage Notes apps more modern cloud based development models and designs as well as integrate other external services to enrich your apps for both Desktop and Mobile users.

 35.

 36.

 37.

 38.
So here is an example of what we have done and part of Luis's presentation at the launch. We took a typical Notes App that we have used for decades. Our Notes based CRM. Everyone has one right?:

 39.

 40.

 41.

 42.

 43.

 44.
Sorry about the bluring but this is a real app used every day and is essential to our daily work. A critical business app. I am sure you have some of those in Notes still right!

 45.

 46.

 47.
Now see the same app as a REACT App running on Domino and Node. This time however it is contained in the context of IBM Connections:

 48.

 49.

 50.

 51.

 52.

 53.

 54.

 55.
Pretty cool eh! Yes that is a Domino App. Everything the users do in this app is immediately reflected in Notes client as it is the exact same database. Using Domino as a NoSQL database!

 56.

 57.

 58.
So what about if the client has moved to Office365. Yes that happens, but the apps always hang around in Notes. What if you could take that same app and deliver it in the context of Office365 with SSO and seamless integration into the Office365 navigation:

 59.

 60.

 61.

 62.

 63.

 64.

 65.

 66.

 67.

 68.

 69.

 70.
Now that is really cool and kind of like magic!

 71.

 72.

 73.
So how does this all work:)

 74.
- Well Domino V10 is the foundation of course

 75.
- We then created Node.js authentication layer that handles oAuth user authentication and generations LtpaToken2 cookies as required. This enables us to have Single Sign-on.

 76.
- Then the app itself is a React.js front end application and implements the header/navigation interface using 'office-ui-fabric-react' and obtains user info from ms graph using '@microsoft/microsoft-graph-client'

 77.

 78.

 79.

 80.

 81.

 82.

 83.
We then use some of our own magic - The ISW Office 365 apps loader (Help us think of a better name if you can please:)

 84.

 85.
- Light weight wrapper around web applications to provide familiarity and continuity in an Office 365 environment

 86.
- Uses Microsoft's fabric ui and graph apis to recreate an Office-like header bar with user details and menu.

 87.
- Enables single sign-on across websphere and domino via LtpaToken2 generation.

 88.
- Office users can be mapped to domino/websphere users

 89.
- Enables hosted applications to update browser url, title and favicon

 90.

 91.

 92.

 93.
So that is the basics. Hope you like it. We are very happy to share more around what we have done if you would like some more information, or even if you are looking for a partner to help you modernise you Notes Apps then also get in touch:) You can reach out to me directly or just head over to www.isw.com.au.

I have been using and watching from the continual improvement of Workplace since it was first pre-released and over this time I have found more and more of my conversations moving from Sametime and Slack over to Workspace.

 109.
In short Workspace is a real time collaboration app that provides group and individual persistent chat, plus some built in cognitive capabilities that basically helps me to cut thru the noise and quickly focus on what matters. There is some great integrations with other cloud services via IFTTT and Workato. One of the capabilities that we have been exploring more of is the developer experience.

 110.
Workspace leverages the underlying Work Services Platform which provides a Webhooks API, Graph API, and Cognitive API's. Using these tools we have been looking at how we can intergrate Workspace with Buzzy Instant Apps and Buzzy for IBM Connections. My colleague and namesake Adam Ginsburg (he surf's while I cook on the grill. That is the key difference) created a quick Geek Sneak preview video yesterday to show off some of the integrations we have created between Buzzy and Watson Workspace.

Damn this one is exciting. I am BUZZING (literally!)

 113.
Over the years since we launched Kudos Badges for IBM Connections about 9 years ago now, we have delivered a series of new products and capabilities for IBM Connections, all with a focus on adoption and improving the user experience and hence engagement for users of Connections.

 114.
After Badges, came Kudos Analytics delivering deep analytics and reporting to Connections. Kudos Thanks and Kudos Awards delivered peer to peer and management award and recognition programs. Then most recently Kudos Boards which dramatically improved team collaboration and projects in Connections using Kanban style user experience. We also have something else coming very soon....think Idea's and Innovation for Connections but more on that later;)

 115.
Lets get our Buzz On!

 116.
Well now this one takes Connections to a whole new level. The great team at Kudos has been busily working away with another great team from Buzzy to now deliver Buzzy for IBM Connections.

 117.

 118.

 119.
An intelligent instant app platform for IBM Connections and Watson Workspace

 120.
Buzzy for Connections provides a better way for users to interact with each other via Citizen Apps.

 121.

 122.
Many of us remember the days when on another platform we would empower users to create apps for many different purposes. This enabled citizen developers and end users to rapidly build situational apps so they could quickly get on with business and complete the job at hand. These might be apps such as Contract Registers, Job Applications, Expense Re-imbursements, Executive Reports/Briefings, Field Sales Reports, Event Management.........the list goes on forever.

 123.
Buzzy for IBM Connections brings these and many many more instant apps to the Connections platform. In a matter of minutes your line of business users are able to create intelligent (via Watson Services) apps for whatever business outcome they want to achieve. These apps are rapidly delivered via both browser and mobile clients, fully integrated with IBM Connections.

 124.
Maybe your Marketing Department are planning on running an event. So you create a Connections Community of course to get the team together to plan, discuss and execute the event. So now with Buzzy for IBM Connections you can create an Event Management App that helps you to store and share the planning details. You might create another app - Event Registrations - this time open to external users as well so they can submit their RSVP's for the event. You might also want to share post event collateral with the attendees of the event - just create another Buzz!

 125.
In another part of your organisation, your HR Department are managing the recruitment of some new staff. They create a HR/Recruitment Community, and add an App for managing and creating job positions. They can list the job positions and determine the criteria and type of skills needed. Once ready they can post the job publically via the Job Application Submission App that allows candidates to submit their resume and applications. Then the HR team can work together to review the resumes and vote on who should get the interview!

 126.
Over the next few posts we will demonstrate Buzzy for IBM Connections with a few videos.

 127.
If you are interested in some more information, a demo, or even want to give Buzzy for Connections a try for yourself you can let us know here - Buzzy for IBM Connections. Come join us and get your Buzz On!

#ISWINSIGHT - Mark Anderson

For our latest #ISWINSIGHT we are introducing Mark Anderson - Business Development Manager for Tasmania.

 131.
1) What’s your name and what exactly do you do with ISW?
My name is Mark Anderson and I am the Business Development Manager for ISW in Tasmania. I started in 2010 and I really enjoy providing technology solutions for people and as technology advances so do the possibilities for innovative solutions. I work with a team to provide applications and systems to help solve business problems and demonstrate how new application can be utilises to improve productivity and reduce inefficiencies. There is always new applications to learn as information technology advances and has become an important part of our lives both socially and professionally.

2) What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Pigeon when I was in Hong Kong many years ago. It tastes like a mixture of duck and chicken and the beak is crunchy. I haven’t had it since and I am less adventurous to try any more weird foods.

3) What is the worst thing you did as a kid?
My younger brother and I accidentally set fire to the back fence of our home while lighting a fire in a barrel. The worst part about it was our dad found the fence alight and that the fire was next to our 5.3m Pride Albatross boat which was not only made of fibreglass but had extra fuel tanks onboard! It would of lit up the neighbourhood if it took hold. Thankfully we put it out in time but it was not a smart thing to do.

4) What do you consider the greatest invention EVER!?!?
Wine. The cultivation of wine and the storage of wine lead to the wider use and development of glass. The use of glass lead to the development of lenses and optics which lead to creation of spectacle, microscopes and telescopes. Thus, scientists and scholars could read and write past their fading eyesight and make important discoverers in the field of medicine, astronomy and physics. I support the discovery of wine when every possible.

5) Tell an interesting fact?
I have an airline metal teaspoon collection. I happened to collect them while I was travelling as a qwerky memento when all the cutlery on airlines was metal and I just happened to end up with about forty or so metal teaspoons from different airlines. Some airlines are no longer operating such as Pana Am, TAA, and Ansett, and some airline I have only occasional travelled on including Air China, Air Iceland and Ryanair. I am not a collector as such and wouldn’t say I have an obsession but as most of the cutlery on airlines today is plastic I just happened to have airline metal teaspoon collection.

Danny Klaus has been doing a regular post about his team members, what they do, and what their interests are (great work Danny). I know a lot of the panagenda team and consider many of them good friends so it is always great to learn more about them.

 135.
So in the spirit of immitation is the best form of flatery, I have decided to give it a go myself and start a similar series on the great team at ISW - #ISWInsight

 136.
And to kick it off I am very excited to announce the latest member at ISW - Jared Roberts - Senior Software Engineer. I have known Jared in the IBM Collaboration community for many years, and had quite a few beers over that time. Last year Jared was nominated as an IBM Champion for Collaboration so we are pumped to have Jarod join the team at ISW. We also have a common love of grilling meat on the weber so I am sure we will have a few good cookups over the years ahead!

 137.
1) What’s your name and what exactly do you do with ISW?

 138.
Jared Roberts - Senior Software Engineer. I have just joined ISW as part of the national consulting team - providing expertise in Collaboration & Cloud Technologies. I'll be involved in IBM Connections, Portal, Sametime, Notes/Domino, WebSphere, SoftLayer, ISW's Cloud42 platform & Innovation/Modernisation offerings - and anything else that is thrown at me! Really looking forward to it!

 139.
2) Any random facts you could share with us?

 140.
I the drummer for Desecrator - heavy metal band from Melbourne. I can play 4 instruments. I'm a Dad of 2. I'm a pretty handy BBQ cook. I'm generally terrible at all sports.

3) Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

 141.
I'm a bit of a plane nerd and have a quiet appreciation for commercial aviation and engineering.. ask me about it and we'll talk for hours... I've no idea why... it's just a thing.

4) Where is the best place you’ve travelled to and why?

 142.
Yosemite National Park in California. One of the most stunning places on Earth. The Sequoia Trees are spectacular!

5) What is the first concert you attended?

 143.
I've been going to concerts my whole life so I can't remember the first... but the BEST was AC/DC - Rod Laver Arena in 2003. Although I've seen them 3 times since then - that was a stand-out - great vibe, band was rocking, and LOUD!

 147.

 148.
Think about it...AI, Cloud, Data, IoT, and Security. They have merged in your world... and they have in ours too. That's why we're excited to announce a first ever event that reflects the way you do business: IBM Think 2018. Bringing together World of Watson and InterConnect to form the technology industry's most important event. - https://www.ibm.com/events/think/

 149.

 150.
The current events include Connect, InterConnect, Amplify, Edge, Vision, World of Watson and PartnerWorld. All merged into IBM THINK 2018.

 151.
From my view this is a great thing. I have attended many many of these events over the last 20 years, and they in isolation have been fantastic. But the "in isolation" part is the problem. Many organisations can't justify going to multiple events, so you tend to get the same crowd at each of the events. By bringing them together you expand the audience and enable a lot more cross polination of ideas and learning. I think this is a great thing for IBM as no longer are their solutions in isolated silos, they are integrated platforms across multiple domains.

 152.
I for one am very pleased to see this merged together, and on a personal not means I will no longer have a clash with my daughters birthdays in Jan and Feb! And I get to stay in Australia for the summer! I know some will have mixed feelings however. One massive event will make it hard to get across all content in a short period of time, and I know some customers have told me that they can only send x number of people to each event so they prefer to have multiple events.

 153.
On the naming I really like it. "THINK" has always been an iconic word for IBM. Even my grandfather has always told me "Just Think" and everything else will work itself out!

 154.
"As IBM president 1914 to 1956, Thomas J. Watson, Sr. enjoyed using the phrase "THINK!" to motivate and inspire his employees." - http://oldcomputers.net/ibm-thinkpad.html

There were so many interesting things going on at IBM Connect 2017 last week in San Francisco. I had some fantastic conversations with colleagues around the world and that is probably the most important part of Connect. Learning from others experiences, thinking about our future path, just fantastic.

 156.
Yet how to sum it up! Well here are my top 5 highlights for IBM Connect 2017. Let me know what yours were?

My answer has been - we are working on it!

 158.
Well I am very pleased to announce that it is now here and ready for us to demo at IBM Connect 2017 in San Francisco.
