19.
Korda went out late during the first round of the Chevron Championship and did not disappoint, catching fire down the stretch.

Nelly Korda is attempting to make history this week at the LPGA’s first major of the year, the Chevron Championship in Texas.

 20.
Korda entered this week having won four consecutive starts. She captured the LPGA Drive On Championship in epic fashion back in January. She then took some time off before returning at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship in mid-March.

 21.
She won that event as well. Korda followed that up with a win at the inaugural Ford Championship before dominating the T-Mobile Match Play in successive weeks.

 22.
Only Annika Sorenstam has ever won five straight on the LPGA Tour, having done so twice during her illustrious career.

 23.
Thursday started slow for the World No. 1. She bogeyed the par-4 10th (her first hole) before three straight pars. From there though, she kicked it into gear.

 27.
Nelly Korda during first round of Chevron Championship

 28.

 29.
She picked up birdies on 14 and 17 to go out in 35 strokes.

 30.
After coughing up a shot on the par-4 2nd, Korda caught fire.

 31.
The hottest player on the planet, yes I am including Scottie Scheffler, then recorded four birdies over her final six holes to card a 4-under 68. She nearly eagled the par-5 8th (her 17th), with her putt coming up inches short.

 32.
Nevertheless, she sits tied for second, two shots back of fellow American Lauren Coughlin.

 33.
On a day where many of the LPGA stars struggled, including Lexi Thompson, Rose Zhang, Jin Young Ko and Megan Khang, Korda once again thrived.

 34.
She will have an early tee time Friday and look to set the bar heading into the weekend with an eye on history.

 58.
PGA Tour stars started strong at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, the fifth Signature Event of the season.

There may have been a major championship last week, but the PGA Tour stars at RBC Heritage started this event with a bang.

 59.
Ludvig Åberg, Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, Patrick Cantlay and many others went low in Hilton Head Thursday.

 60.
But it is J.T. Poston who shot the low round of the day with an 8-under 63. Morikawa posted a 6-under 65 and is tied for second. Six guys shot 5-under 66, including Åberg.

 61.
Rory McIlory is right there also after firing off a 4-under 67 along with six other guys. This Pete Dye course was rewarding to the biggest names in golf all day long.

 62.
The top of the leaderboard is stacked after the first 18 holes. Fifty-six players shot even par or better.

 63.
There were 267 birdies made during Thursday’s round.

 64.
Poston led the field with nine of them. He also leads in strokes gained total, averaging 6.36.

 72.
“I chipped and putted it really well,” Poston said. “I felt like it was one of those days where if I could give myself a look, and I felt pretty confident in being able to make those putts, whether it was a close one or a 20-, 25-footer.”

 73.
Morikawa redeemed himself from his meltdown at Augusta National. The world saw him shoot 2-over and settle for a T3 Sunday. However, he made seven birdies and one bogey at Hilton Head to start strong.

 74.
“When you find this little rhythm, and you find this kind of — just pathway to play golf, it’s very simple,” Morikawa said. “Sometimes when you’re playing bad, you look back and you wonder why it can’t be that simple. It’s a nice little groove to be in, and hopefully, we can keep this going throughout the rest of this week.”

 75.
Åberg, meanwhile, brought his momentum from Augusta National with him South Carolina. He recorded an eagle at the par-5 5th after hitting a perfect shot with his 2-iron off the tee.

 84.
It was a fresh start for the young Swedish phenom, who was nearly perfect off the tee. He hit 13-of-14 fairways and led the field in strokes gained off the tee, picking up two shots on the field.

 85.
“I think tee to green was really good,” Åberg said. “It makes it a lot easier if you’re good off the tee here at this golf course because you avoid the trees and all the angles. Did that very well today. You can be a little bit more aggressive into the greens, but still can’t really force anything. Felt like we did that very well today, and hopefully, we’ll be able to keep that up the rest of the week.”

 86.
The reigning RSM Classic winner played alongside McIlroy, who is four shots off the lead.

 87.
McIlroy started his day with a birdie and made an eagle on the 5th. He coughed up a shot on 12 but redeemed himself, making back-to-back birdies to close his round.

 94.

 95.
“I made two good swings at the last to put it in there close, and nice to finish with a three,” McIlroy said. “Managed my game quite well during the middle when I didn’t have it. Feel like I’ve got a good chance to get myself right in the tournament tomorrow morning. I could have made a couple more bogeys around the turn, and I didn’t.”

 96.
Players better take advantage of conditions on Friday because there is a higher chance of rain for the weekend, which lowers the scoring opportunities.

 97.
For now, some of the best players in the world are in contention, making the RBC Heritage a must-watch tournament.

 118.
Kawhi Leonard missed the last eight games of the regular season, and whether he will return for the Clippers when they face the Mavericks in the NBA playoffs is still unclear.

The Los Angeles Clippers will host the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the NBA playoffs as the fourth seed in the Western Conference, but it’s not clear if and when Kawhi Leonard will be in uniform to join them as the postseason gets set to begin.

 119.
The Clippers star missed the last eight games of the regular season due to what the team is thus far only calling “right knee inflammation,” but was enough of an issue to see him sent home from a road trip after it occurred, and has had very little concrete information provided on it since.

 120.
The latest news came courtesy of NBA insider Shams Charania, who reported that Leonard had an injection in his knee and that there is “optimism” from the team he will be ready for Game 1 on Sunday. The only drama? The Clippers were unwilling to confirm such word, on either front, with lead executive Lawrence Frank pushing back to reporters on Thursday:

 121.

 122.

 123.
Lawrence Frank said Kawhi has made progress but there’s still inflammation. Leonard still hasn’t done any contact and is considered questionable for Game 1. 191.

 192.
Here is rest of the latest we know about what is going on, and when he could be back:

 193.
Kawhi got an MRI

 194.
According to Tomer Azarly, who covers the Clippers as a credentialed reporter for Clutch Points, Leonard “underwent a precautionary MRI upon returning to Los Angeles, which did not show anything that would cause the Clippers significant concern.”

 195.
Leonard left the team’s road trip after the soreness flared up vs. the Charlotte Hornets on April 1, and went back to Los Angeles for treatment rather than continue on with the team to Sacramento to face the Kings.

 196.
Lue was initially hoping Leonard would be back last Thursday, April 4 against the Denver Nuggets... but he has instead missed that game as well, and every game since:

 203.

 204.
Azarly additionally reported that his sources said Leonard was “not expected to be out long enough to endanger his playoff availability, assuming the Clippers finish with a top-six seed.” However, Law Murray of The Athletic wrote at the same time that “while the Clippers remain unconcerned about his status overall, team sources maintain that they will not rush him back.”

 205.

The team is not providing any substantial updates

 206.
Besides the above, the Clippers have mostly been mum on any specifics regarding their perpetually mysterious star. Lue would initially not even confirm to the media whether or not Leonard got imaging done on his injured right knee:

 207.

 208.

 209.
Tyronn Lue says Clippers star Kawhi Leonard is gonna miss a couple games and refused to answer if he got an MRI on his knee:

“We’re not gonna get into the details of it, but he’s gonna miss a couple games and we need to be ready to step up as he goes through his rehab process.”
— Tomer Azarly (@TomerAzarly) April 5, 2024
 210.

 211.
 212.
 213.

 214.
The reason for burbling skepticism about Leonard’s availability — and about the Clippers’ updates on it — is that this knee is the same one that Leonard tore his meniscus in during the 2023 NBA Playoffs, which the Clippers initially framed as a day-to-day “right knee sprain” before confirming the much worse injury after the postseason was over.

 215.
Leonard also partially tore his ACL in the same right knee during the 2021 NBA playoffs, later undergoing surgery that cost him the entire 2021-22 season.

 216.
Leonard is the Clippers’ consensus best player, and their chances of doing much — if anything — in the postseason will hinge on how healthy he can get for the first round, which is why the team’s caginess on this situation bears monitoring.

 217.
Will Leonard be back for the 2024 NBA playoffs?

 218.
So far, the word is that he will. Azarly reported on Friday, April 5 that Leonard “and the team are going through the rehab process, managing the inflammation in his knee, and they’re hopeful he’ll return sometime next week, in time to play the final two or three games of the regular season.”

 219.
But then that return didn’t happen. And given the Clippers’ historic caginess about Leonard's injuries, whether it will at all remains to be seen:

 270.
This season has not gone well for Vu.

 271.
She has one top-10 finish, a T7 at the Honda LPGA Thailand. After that event, Vu withdrew from back-to-back events. At the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, she finished T37, and in her last start, the Ford Championship, she finished tied for 21st.

 272.
This back injury is not new. She had a scare last year and took a month off to heal. Vu explained she manages the injury, but there are still times when it flares up. It caused problems at the Blue Bay LPGA event in China earlier this year.

 273.
Ahead of the Chevron Championship, Vu felt “95% there.”

 274.
“It’s been a rough couple months battling with my injury,” she said. “It’s been a little scary. I’ve definitely cried a lot on the range sometimes because my back just couldn’t hold up. If I can stay healthy this week, I think I’ll be able to do what I need to do.”

 275.
The 26-year-old burst onto the scene last year, winning two majors. Vu also won the Rolex Player of the Year award, making her the first American to earn the honor since Stacy Lewis in 2014.

 276.
This withdrawal marks the third time she has pulled out of an event, as the former UCLA Bruin fights to get healthy.

 277.
Vu was supposed to play alongside Minjee Lee and Nelly Korda on Thursday, at 2:10 p.m. ET.

 298.
The timeline for Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury has been reported, and it’s terrifying for the Bucks in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered an injury at the worst possible time. Antetokounmpo suffered a left calf strain on April 9 with the Milwaukee Bucks in the stretch run of the regular season. Antetokounmpo’s recovery is going to stretch into the 2024 NBA Playoffs, and it’s possible he could miss the entirety of his team’s first round series with the Indiana Pacers.

 299.
Antetokounmpo could miss 2-4 weeks with the injury, according to NBA insider Shams Charania. Don’t expect him in the lineup for the start of the first round series between the No. 3 seed Bucks and the No. 6 seed Pacers. It’s possible he doesn’t play at all.

 307.
Antetokounmpo was sidelined by injury in the first round of last year’s NBA Playoffs too. Giannis injured his back in Game 1 against the Miami Heat, and returned for Game 4 with his team down 2-1 in the series. The Heat were able to eliminate the Bucks, pulling the rare No. 8 over No. 1 seed upset to start their run to the 2023 NBA Finals.

 308.
According to reporting from ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the team is planning for Antetokounmpo to miss the start of their opening-round series against the Indiana Pacers, but they are hoping he can return before the series is over:

 341.
The team reported shortly thereafter that he had suffered a calf strain. According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Antetokounmpo will undergo an MRI of that left calf to determine the extent of the injury:

 365.
Milwaukee won the game against Boston by a final score of 104-91. The Bucks have three games left on their regular-season schedule, including a pair of potentially-critical games against the Orlando Magic. Milwaukee currently leads Orlando by 1.5 games in the Eastern Conference for the No. 2 seed. While the No. 2 seed slated to play against a play-in winner, the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference is likely looking at an opening-round series against the Indiana Pacers.

 366.
The first of those two games against Orlando is Wednesday night in Milwaukee.

 386.
Despite having his PGA Tour card secured, Gordon Sargent decided to remain an amateur for another season with Vanderbilt.

Gordon Sargent, the No 1. ranked amateur golfer, made a bold and surprising decision about his future on Thursday.

 387.
The Vanderbilt junior announced through Instagram that he would return to school for his senior year instead of turning pro.

 388.
“I am excited to announce that I’ll be returning to Vanderbilt for my senior year in 2024-2025,” Sargent wrote. “It’s been an honor to represent this university alongside my teammates and coaches, and I look forward to continuing to compete — and further my education — at this amazing place that has given so much to me.”

 407.

 408.
Last October, Sargent earned 20 points in the Accelerated program to earn his PGA Tour card when he teed it up at the World Amateur Team Championship in Abu Dhabi. Since the Tour rolled out that program two years ago, Sargent is still the only player to tally that many points.

 409.
He may have the speed and resume to suggest that the 21-year-old is ready for the professional stage, but it was not easy for him to make the decision.

 410.
“There’s not going to be a perfect answer,” Sargent said to NBC Sports. “After playing a few college events in the spring, I think you appreciate how much you enjoy college golf. After reviewing with my parents, coaches and team-wise, it just seemed like it was the best thing for me. I could stay in Nashville and continue to get better.”

 411.

 412.
He won the NCAA Individual title as a freshman in 2021. Sargent was also the first NCAA champion to earn an invite to the Masters last year. The Birmingham, Ala., native went onto one of the biggest stages in golf and finished as low amateur at Los Angeles Country Club for the U.S. Open.

 413.
His hot streak in 2023 did not end there. Sargent’s perfect 4-0 record led Team USA to a Walker Cup victory at St. Andrews. He also attained the McCormack Medal as the No. 1 World Amateur Golf ranking at the end of the summer. That accomplishment gets Sargent into the U.S. Open at Pinehurst and the Open Championship at Royal Troon this year.

 414.
Sargent finally won his first tournament during his junior campaign at Vanderbilt’s home tournament, the Mason Rudolph Championship. It marked his fifth top-10 of the year.

 415.
Now that he has made his decision and knows his PGA Tour card is secured, Sargent can enjoy golf.

 416.
“I think there were a lot of expectations this year,” Sargent said. “I think just staying another year, being a senior, enjoying the college life — also knowing there’s a PGA Tour card still waiting for you, it gives you a lot of freedom if you need to make some changes and stuff. Off the golf course, continue to mature and prepare myself for the future.”

 417.
Once his eligibility is up, Sargent can still take his PGA Tour membership in May 2025 following the NCAA Championships. He will also have full status through the 2026 season.

 418.
Vanderbilt heads into the SEC Championship tournament at Sea Island, where they are arguably the team to beat. Following conference play, they will also likely be a No. 1 seed at an NCAA Regional.

 431.
Spencer Rattler is the real QB sleeper in the 2024 NFL Draft

 437.

 438.
 439.
Spencer Rattler doesn’t have be a superhero to be a solid NFL QB.

We’ve talked ad nauseam about the top four QBs in the 2024 NFL Draft. With only a week until the draft, it’s time to focus on some of the other guys at the position outside of the biggest names.

 440.
Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. have been considered in the next tier after Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and J.J. McCarthy. Don’t end the group there. There’s another player who can crash the party, and that’s South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler.

 441.
Rattler has been through a whirlwind of a college career, starting as the next great Oklahoma QB, before getting usurped by Williams and transferring to South Carolina. Despite not having the best playcalling or protection around him, Rattler still showed growth over his two seasons in Columbia and could see his name get called on the second day of the NFL Draft.

 442.
Here’s what him intriguing at the next level.

 443.
Spencer Rattler has pro playmaking ability

 444.
The first thing that stands out about Rattler is his quick, whip-like release. He’s got enough arm strength packed into a compact, 6’0 frame that allows him to test opponents downfield. Because of South Carolina’s lackluster offensive line, the Gamecocks used Rattler on a lot of rollouts, sprint-outs and getting him out of the pocket, and his release really makes its’ presence known on these rollout concepts.

 445.
I really like this rep of Rattler’s from the Missouri game which resulted in a 29 yard completion. Watch him get out of the pocket, but still gain ground to the line of scrimmage, then put this ball on the dot to the receiver running the over route. He can do this at an NFL level, and the talent is evident.

 446.

 447.
View post on imgur.com

 448.
 449.

 450.
When he has his feet set in the pocket, Rattler is capable of delivering some strikes downfield, showcasing NFL-caliber arm talent and velocity. This rep against Georgia on 3rd and 15 is a good example of that, especially under pressure. South Carolina is running a dagger concept, and Rattler is able to move into a throwing window at the top of his drop. However, this window is quickly closing because of a defender, but Rattler is unfazed, and fires this into the receiver breaking open over the middle to move the chains on third and long.

 451.
You can talk me into this!

 452.

 453.
View post on imgur.com

 454.
 455.

 456.
Now let’s talk about some of those pressure responses because ... they were varied at South Carolina.

 457.
Spencer Rattler still tries to do too much, and it’s all over the tape

 458.
In his two years playing for the Gamecocks, Rattler was pressured on 36.5 percent of his dropbacks. When pressured, his On-Target Rate actually jumped from 60.9 percent in 2022 to 74.2 percent in 2023, but his sack rate when pressured in 2023 was a horrendous 23.2%. That means when he was pressured in 2023, about 23 percent of the time he was getting sacked. Rattler’s pressure responses varied over the course of his career, and the results were also a mixed bag.

 459.
One reason I think his sack rate was so much higher in 2023 than in 2022 was because he was more willing to stand in and deliver passes with guys in his face. This rep is from 2023, and Rattler gets cracked, yet stands in and fires this pass for a first down.

 460.

 461.
View post on imgur.com

 462.
 463.

 464.
Now, let’s compare to 2022 against Texas A&M. While this pass gets completed, it’s the process that I don’t really like. At the top of his drop this route comes open, and he can throw this pass in there if he wants to. Yet, he turns it down to roll out the pocket and complete the pass. That’s more unsustainable at the NFL level, as we’ve seen with recent draft prospects (cough cough Zach Wilson). Being able to win from the pocket under pressure is what separates the good from the great, and Rattler is still trying to find his groove with that.

 465.

 466.
View post on imgur.com

 467.
 468.

 469.
I think my biggest gripe with Rattler’s game is how much meat he leaves on the bone with inconsistent ball placement, especially in short yardage areas. Too often, he’s leaving his receivers out to dry with passes that are behind them or too far in front of them. This is a fourth and two from 2023 against Tennessee, and Rattler’s receiver has the leverage to the outside. However, Rattler puts this ball too far on the inside and instead of a first down, it’s a turnover on downs.

 470.

 471.
View post on imgur.com

 472.
 473.

 474.
Here’s another one, on a similar concept, and Rattler completes the pass, but instead of a touchdown, his receiver has to turn inside and the result is being stopped short.

 475.

 476.
View post on imgur.com

 477.
 478.

 479.
Wherever Rattler ends up in the draft, he has to be told to make the job easier on himself. He doesn’t have to try and stand in the pocket on every single pressure look, he doesn’t have to try and be the superhero every single play. If he can iron those ball placement and pressure inconsistencies out, a franchise could get a fun young QB.

 499.
Welcome to Year 18 of our community mock draft.

Our baby’s all grown up. Welcome to our 18th annual SB Nation NFL community mock draft.

 500.
Each year, we turn to the experts — our writers — on every team’s draft needs to deliver you a projection of what the first round could look like. This year, it’s no surprise that the first two picks off the board are quarterbacks, with Windy City Gridiron snagging Caleb Williams for the Bears with the No. 1 overall pick and the Commanders (courtesy of Hogs Haven) added UNC’s Drake Maye at No. 2.

 501.
We’ll be updating this post with the rest of the picks as they’re published, so stay tuned. Below are the results of the 2024 SB Nation NFL mock draft with insight on the “why” behind each pick from our team community writers.

 502.

No. 1 - Chicago Bears: Caleb Williams, QB, USC

 503.

 504.
Williams will be stepping into an unprecedented situation in Chicago. Usually, the first overall draft pick is going to the worst team in football, but the Bears went 7-10 last season after an 0-4 start. Chicago’s defense is primed to take another step after a strong second half, but it’s the offense Williams will slide into that makes this opportunity so unique.

 505.
At receiver, DJ Moore gives Williams an electric playmaker at the Z, and six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen has been one of the most reliable pass catchers in the game for a decade. Tight end Cole Kmet has averaged 61 receptions per year over the last three seasons, and Gerald Everett’s versatility at the other tight end spot will create mismatches. D’Andre Swift is a reliable pass catcher out of the backfield, and he’s coming off a 1,000-yard rushing season. - Lester Wiltfong, Windy City Gridiron

 506.

 507.

No. 2 - Washington Commanders: Drake Maye, QB, UNC

 508.

 509.
Drake Maye started for the last two seasons at North Carolina and showed all the tools necessary to be a successful NFL QB. He has the size, arm talent, and ability to make all the throws. Maye’s first season as a starter put him into the conversation for the top QBs, and despite a “slump” last season, he remained the No. 2 QB despite Jayden Daniels’s Heisman Trophy-winning season.

 510.
Maye has a lot of things to clean up in his game, starting with his footwork. The Washington Commanders new offense is led by former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, and has several assistants who will work with Maye as he cleans up his game to play at the next level. Maye is a big, mobile passer who has a higher ceiling than other QBs in this draft. - Scott Jennings, Hogs Haven

 511.

 512.

No. 3 - New England Patriots: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU

 513.

 514.
Daniels’ super power is his legs, as he’s an electric ball carrier who will be one of the fastest quarterbacks in football due to his blazing straight-line speed. In his two years in the SEC, Daniels complied over 2,000 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground. His ability to create big plays as an athlete will be a nightmare for opposing defenses to defend.

 515.
It’s important to note that Daniels isn’t just a runner, however, as he’s improved as a passer throughout his college career. He has clean mechanics that feature a very consistent throwing motion and upper body. Daniels can layer throws all over the field and is extremely accurate (78.7% adjusted completion rate at LSU) all while supporting a measly 1.1 turnover worthy play rate the past two seasons.

 516.
Daniels has above-average arm strength, but makes up for any limitations with his plus ball placement. He is perhaps the best deep ball thrower in this class as the slot fade is the best throw in his bag. - Brian Hines, Pats Pulpit

 517.

 518.

No. 4 - Minnesota Vikings (via Arizona Cardinals): JJ McCarthy, QB, Michigan

 519.

 520.
At just 21 years old, younger than prospects like Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, and Michael Penix, McCarthy still has plenty of room to grow. He’s already quite mechanically sound and has displayed significantly above-average arm talent as well. He’s also a plus athlete and can be a threat to make plays on the move, whether it’s on designed runs or getting outside of the pocket in the passing game.

 521.
One of the criticisms of McCarthy is that he was surrounded by an incredible amount of talent at Michigan and that could potentially make him look better than he actually is. Sure, Michigan is an NFL talent factory at this point, but that shouldn’t take away from what McCarthy has done. And, if we want to go down that road, given the level of talent he’d be surrounded by in Minnesota. . .the league’s best wide receiver, a dynamic No. 2 wideout, one of the best tight ends in the NFL, a new leader in the run game, and a pair of outstanding bookend tackles. . .his talent could be maximized in relatively short order. - Christopher Gates, Daily Norseman

 522.

 523.

No. 5 - Arizona Cardinals (via Chargers): Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

 524.

The Arizona Cardinals need an alpha in the wide receiver room and Harrison projects as one of the best wide receiver prospects in the last couple years. My buddy Matt Harmon who runs Reception Perception came out with his final grades and Marvin Harrison Jr. is his highest-graded receiver between 2021 and this season. - Seth Cox, Revenge of the Birds

 525.

No. 6 - New York Giants: WR Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

 526.

 527.
At 6-foot-3, 212 pounds with strong hands, the ability to win at all three levels, good enough route running ability and contested catch ability that turns 50-50 balls into 80-20 balls in his favor, Odunze is a different player than anyone in that group.

 528.
If you use the ‘Basketball Theory’ of building a wide receiver room with varying skill sets, Odunze would bring things to the Giants they don’t already have. Especially if tight end Darren Waller retires.

 529.
Odunze is a better athlete than many think, having run a 4.45 40-yard dash and compiled the second-highest Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of any receiver tested at the NFL Scouting Combine. - Ed Valentine, Big Blue View

 530.

 531.

No. 7 - Tennessee Titans: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

 532.

 533.
This pick will be a bit of a controversial one because Joe Alt was on the board, and the Titans’ biggest need entering the offseason and still in April is a left tackle. I could have simply taken Alt and had the left tackle position locked down for the next decade, but I chose Nabers.

 534.
So why would a team that has desperately needed a left tackle for the last two years pass on the best one in the draft to take a receiver? For me it came down to a few things:

 535.
The first is the dropoff from Nabers to the receiver the Titans would have the chance to take in the second round is way bigger than the dropoff from Alt to the tackle they can get in the second round. Nabers has the ceiling of being one of the best receivers in the NFL. He’s a dynamic playmaker on the outside. Brian Callahan is going to value that more than the coaches the Titans have had in the past. - Jimmy Morris, Music City Miracles

 536.

 537.

No. 8 - Los Angeles Rams: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame

 538.

 539.
To trade up into the top 10 at No. 8 I gave up 19th overall, a 2025 first-round pick, and the 83rd overall pick in the third round. Keeping this year’s second-round pick was important, which is why I opted for the 2025 first-round pick instead. The Rams could still move back in the second round and pick up an extra late third or a fourth-round pick to make up for the loss of pick 83.

 540.
This move allows the Rams to continue adding to this year’s roster and add pieces for the future which is important for their current team-build. It’s a somewhat hefty price, but we won’t be talking about what it took to get Joe Alt when he’s an All-Pro-caliber left tackle for 15 years. There are a few blue-chip caliber players in this draft class and Alt is one of them. - Blaine Grisak, Turf Show Times

 541.

 542.

No. 9 - Las Vegas Raiders (via Bears): Michael Penix Jr., QB, Washington

 543.

 544.
While the hope is the Silver and Black will trade up into the top three picks to, presumptively, target Jayden Daniels, the Bears, Washington Commanders and New England Patriots weren’t budging. That meant Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Daniels were selected first, second and third overall. Then, the Minnesota Vikings parlayed their two first-round picks into a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to take J.J. McCarthy off the board.

 545.
With four quarterbacks taken in the first four picks and the quarterback-needy Denver Broncos sitting one spot ahead of the Raiders, panic started to set in, so a move had to be made. Chicago was willing to move out of No. 9 and all it took was a third-round pick for Las Vegas to secure its quarterback of the future.

 546.
Using the NFL draft pick trade value chart, this was a pretty even deal as the Raiders only overspent by five points. A small premium to pay for the most important position on the field. - Matt Holder, Silver & Black Pride

 547.

 548.

No. 10 - New York Jets: Taliese Fuaga, OT, Washington

 549.

 550.
Fuaga is not a pick purely for the future. He will get a chance to compete with Morgan Moses for the starting right tackle job right off the bat. During Moses’ first stint with the Jets, he began the season as the primary backup tackle, only sliding into the starting lineup after a Mekhi Becton injury.

 551.
Either way, Fuaga gives the Jets tackle depth in the short run. That is important with a pair of starters in their mid 30s. It is doubly important with a starting left tackle in Smith who hasn’t played a season without missing at least three games since 2015. The phrase “win now” is practically a cliché around the Aaron Rodgers-led Jets at this point. Fuaga gives the Jets one of the rarest benefits an NFL team can have, offensive line depth. The Jets are no longer one injury on the infamous turf at MetLife Stadium away from starting the likes of Carter Warren or Max Mitchell on Aaron Rodgers’ blindside.

 552.
Of course you don’t pick a player in the top 10 only for depth. Fuaga gives the Jets a long-term building block for the offensive line. Some think he might eventually move inside to guard, but no matter where he ends up he should be a valuable part of the trenches for a long time. - John Butchko, Gang Green Nation

 553.

 554.

No. 11 - Los Angeles Chargers: J.C. Latham, OT, Alabama

 555.

 556.
Latham has as high a ceiling as any offensive tackle prospect in the class – and may have the highest floor! He stands nearly 6’6 and weighs 342 pounds, while boasting a wingspan in the 82nd percentile for offensive tackles, and 11-inch hands that register in the 95th percentile, according to Mockdraftable.com. And DraftKings Sportsbook’s odds suggest an offensive lineman will be the first position targeted by the Chargers on draft night.

 557.
With all that size, Latham controls defensive lineman in the run game, and locks up pass rushers attempting to go through him. The power is combined with smooth, quick feet, and all that came together in a very impressive way for the recently turned 21-year-old. He only started at right tackle at Alabama, but his skill set suggests he could protect the blind side if needed.

 558.
For the Chargers, that won’t matter: He’ll fit right in as the immediate starting right tackle, manning the edges of the pocket with left tackle Rashawn Slater. - Ron Kopp Jr., Bolts From the Blue

 559.

 561.

 562.
Bo Nix gives the Broncos a quarterback who fits into Sean Payton’s offense very well. He is a quick rhythm passer who has had success in the short passing game, throwing screens, quick passes to the backs, and so on — all things Payton loves to do in his offense. His processing ability, which is something Payton covets from his quarterbacks, has also been praised by evaluators. While Nix may not be the most highly touted prospect, he may just be the best fit for the Broncos at quarterback in this draft.

 563.
This may not be the most popular pick, but with the way the board fell in front of me, it was the move the Broncos had to make. Trying to trade up and compete with the Vikings for Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy was unsuccessful and then the Raiders traded up to ninth overall to select Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr., which was a surprise. I would have liked to trade back, but with Nix being the quarterback I wanted to get if I could not trade up, I pulled the trigger at 12th overall. - Scotty Payne, Mile High Report

 566.

 567.
The Bears value high-character prospects, and Turner was a team captain and a finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, which honors college football’s best in character and performance and is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community, and Tenacity.

 568.
Some scouts feel his best fit is as a 3-4 outside linebacker, but his pass-rush ability translates into any scheme. At 6’3, 247 pounds, with 34 3/8’’ arm length, he’s plenty big enough to play in the Bears 40 front, but it’s the athletic measurables that would have head coach Matt Eberflus excited. His 4.46 40 was the fastest of any edge player. His 1.54 10-yard split was tied for best. His 40.5’’ vertical jump was the highest of any edge, and his 10’ 7’’ broad jump was tied for the second-longest. - Lester Wiltfong Jr., Windy City Gridiron

 571.

 572.
The 6’4, 317-pound lineman is a versatile player who can play at both tackle and guard and on either side of the line. He is a big, physical guy who can move well. At the 2024 NFL combine, Fautanu ran an official 5.01-second 40-yard dash.

 573.
In light of the recent news regarding Ryan Ramczyk’s knee injury not progressing as expected, the Saints are in need of someone at tackle on an offensive line that currently consists of Ramczyk, Trevor Penning, Landon Young, and Olisaemeka Udoh.

 574.
One of their biggest priorities this year should be keeping Derek Carr healthy. In 2023, Carr was sacked 31 times, leading to multiple injuries throughout the season. I think Fauteau could be a Day 1 starter that could add help cure some of the issues that have plagued the offensive line and run game the past few years, especially with the changes that will be coming from new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. - Tina Howell, Canal Street Chronicles

 575.

 577.

 578.
Regarding Bowers, the 6’3, 243-pound junior tight end caught 56 receptions for 714 receiving yards (12.8 yards-per-reception average) and six touchdown receptions during 10 starts in 2023—earning unanimous All-American First-Team honors and the John Mackey Award, presented to college football’s most outstanding tight end (the latter for a consecutive season).

 579.
He’s been highly regarded as the latest modern-day Swiss Army knife ‘move’ tight end with his ability to line up in-line, in the slot, and even occasionally outside. Quite frankly, Bowers is a ‘yards-after-catch’ receiving machine with his ability to be featured in the slot, on tight end screens, and in the flats. He also can separate down the seam with explosive playmaking vertically.

 580.
He would add so many new wrinkles to Colts head coach Shane Steichen’s offense, notably in the RPO game too, and is considered one of the best tight end prospects to come out in recent memory. - Luke Schultheis, Stampede Blue

 581.

 583.

 584.
Having Newton, Jones, Williams, Reed, and Hankins should provide the Seahawks with much better interior depth than we’ve seen in years past. Jones spent the back-end of last season on the edge after Uchenna Nwosu’s injury, and perhaps the Seahawks could keep him there primarily and kick him inside when necessary... or they could trade him post-June 1 and save $11.5 million in cap space.

 585.
Reed is in the final year of his contract and while I could see him being a surprise cap cut in preseason, he outperformed his deal last year and may stick to his NT role this season. Hankins would be the bigger body as a run-stuffing NT.

 586.
Having Newton and Williams together could wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks, and Newton could be the long-term star the Seahawks have been looking for at interior defensive line. - Mookie Alexander, Field Gulls

 589.

 590.
The Crimson Tide product spent three seasons at Alabama. After redshirting his first season, Arnold earned Freshman All-SEC honors in 2022 with 1 interception, 9 pass deflections, 45 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in 11 games/7 starts.

 591.
Arnold then led the SEC with 5 interceptions and 17 pass deflections along with 63 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble to receive First-Team All-SEC and First-Team All-American recognition in 2023.

 592.
The 21-year-old prospect leads all corners in his draft class with a Production Score of 90, per Next Gen Stats, though his 70 Athleticism Score ranks 18th. Arnold’s 4.5-second 40-yard dash was the 19th-best time out of 25 corners who ran at the Combine. - Gus Logue, Big Cat Country

 595.

Ever since Geno Atkins was cut, the Bengals have struggled to bring interior pressure. They added D.J. Reader, B.J. Hill, and Larry Ogunjobi in free agency or via trade, and drafted Zach Carter, who has completely failed to live up to his draft billing. This offseason they signed Sheldon Rankins, who is a solid pass rusher, but long-term they need a player who can finally step in and fill the void left by Geno Atkins. It is lofty expectations for anyone, and he may never reach the height of Atkins, but the hope is that Murphy can be a similar type of player and bring the interior pass rush the Bengals have needed for so long. - Patrick Carlisle, Cincy Jungle

 597.

 598.
On Latu, I think he’s absolutely the best pass rusher in this draft class right now. Could Turner and Verse surpass him, eventually? Possibly. But after a trade down like this, there’s no reason to pass on Latu’s obvious talent. Here’s how I described him in a previous mock draft:

 599.
Latu is one of the most technically polished pass rushers I’ve ever seen coming out of college. He’s got a dizzying array of moves and knows when and how to use them. While he’s got a good frame at 6’5, 267, he does lack ideal length with less than 33” arms. However, Latu’s biggest questions were his medicals and his overall athleticism. He answered both thoroughly at the Combine (and his Pro Day), with positive reports on his health and an impressive 9.41 RAS. Latu is the most pro-ready pass rusher in the class and should be expected to make an immediate impact on passing downs, which fits well with Atlanta’s win-now mindset after the Kirk Cousins signing. - Kevin Knight, The Falcoholic
