The Premier League is, as ever, living up to its reputation as one of the most fascinating of Europe’s big 5 championships.

Bar leaders Liverpool, nobody looks to have much of a divine right to win the title.

The top-three teams in the table are all favored to win on Matchday 6 as per MyTopSportsbooks, but two are at real risk of dropping points in the title race.

Manchester City are a prohibitive 1/8 favorite to stop their losing skid at one when they host Watford (19/1).

But Tottenham are only a tepid 13/10 favorite at Leicester (2/1), while Liverpool are 1/1 to beat Chelsea (5/2) at Stamford Bridge. Already five points clear of the field, if the Reds can pick up the full three at Chelsea, they will truly be in the driver’s seat for this season’s league title.

There are few scenarios one can see City not winning the title again this season, they’ve been unbelievable for years and are only strengthening their squad. Pep decided to add Spanish centre midfielder Rodri to the side, completing his record breaking £62.8 million deal, City’s highest in their history.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were joint top goal scorers last season and there’s no signs of them stopping their destructive streak. The Reds’ defence is what really changes games, conceding 0.57 goals a game last season and Alisson reeled in 21 clean sheets but with the standard of squads going up, the goals will have to match last seasons, it’ll be a surprise to see them match City.

Arsenal have been falling victim to a small transfer budgetthis season and had signed Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid and Saliba from Saint Etienne (loaned back) before instant developments towards signing Lille’s Nicolas Pepe.

The quality of the English top flight beyond say the top six is highly questionable, which makes life nothing shy of interesting for those trying to find solutions to betting quandaries. There are no obvious outside bets.

Indeed, this title race is looking much like it did last season, a waiting game to see who (if any of the favoured sides) succumb to mediocrity.

Frank
Lampard is yet to register a PL win as a manager after facing tough games
against Manchester United and Leicester but comes into a game that would have
been considered a bit easier before the season started, against newly promoted
Norwich. For the Blues, that will not even remotely be the case after Norwich
have started the season with true intention, bagging a goal and creating plenty
of chances against Liverpool but then disposing of Newcastle in stylish
fashion.

Teemu Pukki
has been the mastermind behind the Canaries’ last year or so, the Finnish
striker scored 29 in the 18/19 Championship campaign and has started the PL
season with 4 goals in 2, including a hattrick against Newcastle. He’s looking
a real threat and the step up in quality of football really doesn’t seem to
have phased him. Todd Cantwell was responsible for two of the assists for Pukki
against Newcastle and the 21-year-old Englishman looked dangerous cutting in
from a wide role. It’s clear that Daniel Farke has embedded a real attacking
style in Norwich and it’s working tenfold.

Chelsea
haven’t had the greatest starts with Lampard’s winless tenure thus far, but
this season will be used purely to create the team he’s going to use in the
future. Mason Mount has been a prime example of the youth coming through at the
moment, he’s played the full 90 minutes in both of Chelsea’s games so far and
scored his first PL goal in the Blues 1-1 draw with Leicester last weekend. In
addition, at Derby (still under Lampard), he scored in their away fixture
against Norwich last season in a 4-3 victory.

Mason Mount, Chelsea celebrating after scoring his team’s first goal during the Premier League match against Leicester

The glaring
issue in the Chelsea camp seems to be defensively, in their last 5 away games
in all competitions they’ve conceded 15 goals and have conceded 5 in their
first 2 PL games. The new backline has bags of youth coming through and they’re
clearly still adapting to being at the top level, all there’s to be said for
now is they will leak goals.

Talking of
goals, Norwich tend to be involved in high scoring home fixtures, in their last
9 games in all competitions, 8 of them have had over 2.5 goals where Chelsea
have had over 2.5 in 7 of their last 9. Norwich’s consistency offensively and
Chelsea’s current form, this will make for a high scoring game.

If you’re
looking for a selection to place a bet on for this game, Pukki to score, draw
and over 2.5 is roughly available at 14/1.

Teemu Pukki
to score is available at roughly 6/4 too, which looks a steal.

Leicester v Wolves (2PM)

The first
of today’s 2pm kick offs is going to be contested by two of the hottest teams
in the Premier League at the moment with Leicester possessing a new outlook under
Rodgers and Wolves battling through the Europa League qualifiers in emphatic
style.

In last season’s
meetings between the sides, Leicester walked away 2-0 victors but that was Wolves’
second game back in the PL and first away topflight game in 7 years. Since that
date, Wolves have gone on to secure Europa League qualification and play their
first games in the qualifiers in recent weeks.

Raul Jimenez
has scored 4 goals in Wolves’ last 2 EL games as part of impressive 4-0 and 4-1
wins to kick off their competitive season, last season he scored 13 PL goals and
reeled in 10 assists in the Premier League and was a vital part of what was
such a successful season. Diogo Jota performed towards the end of the previous
campaign with 7 goals between January-May which also included a hat-trick in
Leicester and Wolves most recent meeting.

Wolves’ Raul Jimenez (centre right) celebrates scoring his side’s first goal of the game during the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round second leg against Crusaders.

The Foxes
have been excellent since they’ve been under new management and furthermore,
they notched two home clean sheets in the last two games of last season against
Chelsea and Arsenal, which also included a convincing 3-0 win over the Gunners.

Leicester
have had less pre-season games which could suggest they’re not as prepared to
dive into such a competitive game as a match-ready Wolves but with last season’s
form and Leicester’s home form in general, a Leicester win could be on the
cards. In contradiction to that, Harry Maguires sale could rock the camp, but
we’ve been unable to see that because since the transfer has been completed,
Leicester haven’t played a game.

Leicester
2-1 seems a reasonable prediction but it’s hard to tell how hard the Maguire
loss will hit, Jota and Jimenez are very dangerous, and Wolves may already be
wound up after pre-season, this isn’t one for a bet.

Man United v Chelsea (4:30PM)

Frank Lampard’s
first competitive game couldn’t have been a more suitable test. United have
been under recent work with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking over in December 2018
and Chelsea are undergoing the same refurbishments also under the transfer ban.

United have
improved their weaker areas immensely with the signings of Aaron Wan-Bissaka
and Harry Maguire, the English pairing were superb in the 18/19 season for Palace
and Leicester respectively and they should slot straight into the United XI
today. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial scored 5 goals between them in pre-season
and the youthful pairing will really flourish this season. Martial scored 2
goals in the fixture last season at Stamford Bridge which finished in a 2-2
draw with Ross Barkley also scoring a 96th minute equalizer.

Barkley has
been outstanding in pre-season with goals in his last 4 games and a couple of
assists thrown in aswell and is really starting to prove under Lampard why he
was signed in the first place. The Englishman has never registered more than 8
goals in a PL season but with Lampard’s guidance he could really undergo a molding
process.

Chelsea’s
defensive line could be surrounded by skepticism with the departure of David
Luiz, with exception of Azpilicueta the back 4 will all be under the age of 25
with limited regular first team football at this level. N’Golo Kante’s fitness
is up for debate which also adds to the potential defensive woes.

Chelsea
have scored 13 goals in their last 4 pre-season games but have also conceded 9
which averages out at 5.5 goals a game, with United’s defensive reinforcements
and Chelsea’s current goal filled games, this could be an entertaining one.

A 2-2 draw
sounds accurate, Barkley to score and match result- draw is generally available
at 16/1.

Happy Super
Sunday.

Another
year, another PL season. It really does feel like it’s said on repeat but this
season looks like it’s going to be one of the most competitive seasons in
recent times with some of the top 6 having trouble, and the teams surrounding
making serious progress towards breaking into that illustrious top 6. This
year’s promoted teams are Norwich, Aston Villa and Sheffield United, with the
18/19 season ending with the relegation of Huddersfield, Cardiff and Fulham;
two of which were promoted the season before. Let’s attempt to breakdown each
teams chances this year with a league table prediction alongside, starting from
the top.

1st:
Manchester City

There’s no
scenario I can see City not winning the title again this season, they’ve been
unbelievable for years and are only strengthening their squad. Pep decided to
add Spanish centre midfielder Rodri to the side, completing his record breaking
£62.8 million deal, City’s highest in their history. In regard to losses,
Vincent Kompany moved back to Belgium to pursue management and Fabian Delph
left but that’s not going to cause any issues for a City team going strength to
strength. City have managed to achieve 198 points in the last 2 PL seasons,
meaning they’ve only dropped 30 points in 76 games, there’s way too much going
for City to see them slowing down.

2nd:
Liverpool

After the
18/19 season and registering the 3rd most points in a PL season ever,
Liverpool come into this season looking to keep the pressure on City and
continue their progress towards their first ever PL title. Liverpool’s
pre-season hasn’t been as strong as what would have been expected with 2 wins
over low league opposition and since going 4 games without a win. Mohamed Salah
and Sadio Mane were joint top goal scorers last season and there’s no signs of
them stopping their destructive streak. The Reds defence is what really changes
games, conceding 0.57 goals a game last season and Alisson reeled in 21 clean
sheets but with the standard of squads going up, the goals will have to match
last seasons, it’ll be a surprise to see them match City.

3rd:
Tottenham

Tottenham
have done the impossible by spending money to make a transfer this transfer
window! Tanguy N’Dombele arrived from Lyon for £55 million and has made appearances
in all their pre-season fixtures, considering Spurs have done so well without
any money spent, this season could be interesting how they develop. Spurs’
pre-season has involved beatings of Real Madrid and Juventus, the latter via a
winning goal from the half-way line by Harry Kane. Kieran Trippier has been
sold to Atletico for £21 million but that does make way for Kyle Walker-Peters
who registered 3 assists in his limited 374 minutes last season. If the young
Englishman is given time in the first team it could be a breakthrough season
for him. A season without injury with the same squad looks strong enough to
slot into third behind the two big hitters this year.

Kyle Walker-Peters vs Bournemouth 26/12/18

4th:
Manchester United

Now, this 4th
place spot is the one that is up for the most debate. United have won all their
pre-season games including wins over Inter and Tottenham. It’s known that
pre-season doesn’t always mean a lot but there have been some very impressive
performances from new signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka who arrived from Palace for £55
million. If the likes of Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelöf can stay fit, perhaps
United can strengthen their defence back to what it has been in previous years.
Last season, David de Gea kept a mere 7 clean sheets, 4 less than any of his
previous years in the Premier League. United have got a real task on their
hands but with the improvements in their defence it should be enough to see
them improve on what was a disappointing season last year.

5TH:
Arsenal

Arsenal
have been falling victim to a small transfer budget this season and had signed
Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid and Saliba from Saint Etienne (loaned back)
before instant developments towards signing Lille’s Nicolas Pepe. The Ivorian
winger scored 22 goals and got 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season, guiding Lille
to a shock 2nd place finish, they finished 17th the
season before. The transfer fee is supposedly £75-80 million but that’s exactly
what Arsenal have needed in recent years, a bit of financial backing. It goes
without saying the strike force of last years golden boot winner Aubameyang,
Lacazette and Pepe will be an onslaught for any defence, but Arsenal’s backline
hasn’t improved. There’s not long until the start of the season and it’s likely
that Arsenal will score plenty of goals but will be leaky at the back, until
those improvements are made it’s hard to see the Gunners break back into the
top 4.

6th: Chelsea

What is
bound to be a tough season for Chelsea this season also shouldn’t be judged.
It’s the first managerial season for Frank Lampard at the top level and he’s
also walked into a Chelsea side under a two-window transfer ban. Mateo Kovacic was
purchased after being on loan last season, but the squad will remain the same
with exception of a few sales. Morata was sold after a disappointing tenure,
prospects Kalas and DaSilva both were sold to Bristol City and of course, Eden
Hazard’s eventual sale to Real Madrid. The gap that Hazard’s departure will
cause is going to ripple throughout Chelsea’s season and will more than likely
cause issues offensively. Chelsea’s team is very youthful and it’s a tough one
to call on who will step up and create the chances. Chelsea finishing 6th
sounds a minimum expectation but with the improvements of my predicted 7th
it’s going to be a close battle.

7th:
Wolves

Wolves are
an interesting one. After 17/18’s promotion to the Premier League they
surprised a lot of people with a 7th place finish and were 9 points from
United in 6th. This transfer window they’ve added further quality
into their side with permanent signings of Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker,
they’ve also got the services of Jesus Vallejo on loan from Real Madrid to
strengthen their backline and Patrick Cutrone from Milan. Last season Wolves
had an excellent record against the top 6 and struggled on occasion with seeing
out games against the smaller teams, if they were to gain a bit of consistency
there’s not much reason why they couldn’t pull off a shock by finding a way
into that seemingly staple top 6.

8th:
Leicester

Brendan Rodgers’
arrival in February changed the way Leicester performed, they finished the
season in 9th last year but in their 10 PL games under Rodgers,
Vardy scored 10 goals and upped his shots per game from 2.4 to 2.9. Leicester’s
pass completion rate also went from 75% to 81% and they had a 50%-win rate in those
first PL games under Brendan. This year is a fresh page and gives the Foxes a
real chance to continue those performances under what is looking like a very
dangerous team with a real chance for European football this year. There’s been
a lot of talk about Harry Maguire potentially leaving, if Leicester were able
to lock him down and keep him at the club, they’ll be able to really challenge
for 7th place, if not higher. Youri Tielemans also made his loan
move from last year permanent and Ayoze Perez also switched from Tyneside to
strengthen an already powerful frontline. Keep a close eye.

9th:
Everton

Marco Silva
got a fine tune out of this Everton side towards the end of last season with
wins against Chelsea, United, Arsenal and then draws against Spurs and
Liverpool. Everton have brought in Fabian Delph and secured Andre Gomes on a
deal from Barcelona after a successful loan last year. Unfortunately, PSG
swooped in for Idrissa Gueye leaving a slight gap in the defensive midfield
area that Fabian Delph may well fill, but Everton’s strength is offensively.
Richarlison tends to start the season well regardless of the team he’s at and
Sigurdsson has participated in 15 goals or more in 4 of the last 5 seasons.
Everton have a very solid first 11 and look a certainty for a top half finish
with a few surprises against big sides along the way.

10th:
West Ham

Sebastian
Haller has arrived in east London from Frankfurt for a club record fee of £45
million after an impressive season in Germany in which he scored 15 goals and
got 9 assists in 29 appearances. After the exit of Arnautovic, Carroll and
Lucas Perez the Frenchman is exactly the position they needed to strengthen,
and he looks as if he could play a real role in West Ham’s season. Pablo
Fornals also arrived from Villarreal and has been linking up very well with
Haller in pre-season, providing a couple of assists already. On the other hand,
West Ham still have a very hit and miss defensive line and the potential
striking strength alone wouldn’t be enough to compete with these 9 teams above
them, a mid-table finish sounds about right.

https://twitter.com/WestHamUtd/status/1157692393497538562 -Haller cleverly assisting Jack Wilshere

11th:
Bournemouth

Bournemouth
are always an absolute delight to watch, Eddie Howe has embedded a style of
attacking football that really does work with the likes of Callum Wilson and
Josh King leading the line. The pairing has scored 42 goals and registered 21
assists between them in the last two seasons and with Wilson having injury
blows the last couple of seasons it’ll be interesting to see if he can stay fit
the whole year. Ryan Fraser assisted 14 goals last season and was the second
highest in the assist charts just behind Eden Hazard, all of the Bournemouth
attack contribute fairly regularly, and it’ll be down to whether they can stay
solid defensively for their chances this year. Disappointingly, they haven’t
signed any top-level proven defenders, they’ve acquired Jack Stacey from Luton
for a cheap fee, but he’s never played in a league higher than League One. A
season full of goals but a bottom half finish for the Cherries.

12th:
Aston Villa

The highest
ranked newly promoted side for the 19/20 season should be Aston Villa. This
summer they’ve made a net spend of £115 million with a deal for Tom Heaton for
a further £8 million on the verge of going through. A few examples of the
players they’ve signed are: Targett, Douglas Luiz, Trezeguet and Wesley
(Southampton, City, Kasimpasa and Brugge) but they’ve also made loan deals from
last season permanent with Konsa, Mings and El Ghazi. Dean Smith arrived
October 2018 whilst Villa were 14th, and towards the end of last year’s
campaign Villa went on a 10-game winning run to secure the play-off spots and
then went on to win the play-offs for promotion. Offensively, the side looks
very threatening with the likes of Jack Grealish really starting to thrive in a
team better equipped for his playmaking needs, there’s a chance Villa could do
a similar thing to Fulham, but it seems a lot more unlikely.

Data from www.TransferMarkt.co.uk of Aston Villa’s 19/20 summer signings

13th:
Watford

Watford are
one of those teams that many people will underestimate, they tend to have a
very sturdy record at home and don’t play flashy football but will grind out
results regularly. They’ve had a very quiet transfer window only signing Craig
Dawson from West Brom and not selling anyone of real relevance. Last season
marked a historic moment for the Hornets, registering their highest ever PL
finish and the likes of Gerard Deulofeu looked very good during the season. The
Spaniard was tipped to be one of the best whilst at Barcelona but hasn’t quite
lived up to his potential, he’s been doing quite well at Watford though and he
should be the main man this season once again. Also, with the changes/addition of
VAR you can expect to see Troy Deeney score a few more goals, mainly through
penalties.

14th:
Crystal Palace

Palace have
had a torrid pre-season and there’s been endless speculation about the future
of star player Wilfred Zaha. The Ivorian winger hasn’t played a part in
Palace’s pre-season and seems to be on the way out, but there’s no real links
towards where he is going. If Zaha was to leave, it’d leave a real gap in the
side with no real star quality left in the squad. Luka Milivojevic has scored
10 or more goals in the last 2 seasons, but the majority have been from the
penalty spot, mostly won by Wilfred Zaha. This season’s survival is surrounded
by whether Zaha stays or not, if he was to stay Palace, they shouldn’t have any
problem staying up but with his exclusion from the squad, this prediction of 14th
could easily be 3 or 4 places lower.

15th:
Southampton

The Saints
had a tough season last year and for the most of it they looked as if they were
going to drop down to the Championship for the first time in 8 years. They
finished last season in 16th and changes had to be made so Ralph Hasenhüttl went out and signed Che
Adams from Birmingham City, the young English striker scored 22 last season and
has scored in all his Southampton appearances thus far. Moussa Djenepo has also
arrived from Standard Liege, the 21-year-old from Mali scored 3 goals in 5
appearances in last year’s UEL which stands him in good stead transferring over
to the highest level. The problem really does lie defensively with Southampton
though and unfortunately there’s been no bolstering of the backline to justify
predicting them a higher finish than the bottom 6.

Che Adams (pictured above) signing for Southampton

16th:
Burnley

16th
seems a fair prediction for Burnley but with the side that Sean Dyche has put
together in comparison to other sides around them, it wouldn’t be a surprise to
see them pushing towards the mid-table area. Chris Wood has scored 10 or more
goals in his last 4 seasons he’s taken a part in and bagged a hat-trick in a
6-1 thumping of Nice in pre-season. Burnley never have a large transfer budget
but managed to sign Jay Rodriguez from West Brom to add to what seems like a decent
attack already alongside Barnes, Wood and Vydra. Nick Pope is unfortunately
still injured which will leave Joe Hart in goal to start the season, but he’s
still got a huge point to prove after the downhill spiral since Man City.
Tarkowski and Ben Mee will lead the defensive line as they have done for years
but the real problems for Burnley stem from the midfield. There’s a huge lack
of real defensive or offensive presences which will allow teams to dictate
possession consistently, one big signing could move them further up with ease.

17th:
Newcastle

The Magpies
have been in a serious dilemma this summer. Rafael Benitez left in June after
not seeing eye to eye with Mike Ashley and the board about the future of the
club, so they replaced him with Steve Bruce. Steve Bruce is nowhere near as
established as Rafa and is a serious downgrade, and the transfer window that’s
come alongside has also not been very favourable for the Toon. After Ayoze
Perez’ excellent finish to last season Leicester snapped him up and Joselu also
left for Spain after a very poor run. Bruce has signed Joelinton as a
replacement for both of those players, the Brazilian 22 year old has scored his
first goal already in pre-season and looks like he could score a few this
season but he seems to be the only real source of goals available with
exception of Miguel Almiron who signed last season. In the defensive half,
Newcastle look reasonable with the likes of Lascelles and in goal, Dubravka who
will be on hand to keep them in the PL. It’s going to be a rocky road to start
the season for Newcastle, let’s see what January brings.

18th:
Norwich

The second
of the promoted Championship teams brings us to the title winners, Norwich.
Norwich were excellent in the Championship last season, specifically Teemu
Pukki who rattled in 29 goals in 45 appearances. Patrick Roberts has arrived on
loan from Man City and scored an absolute scorcher in a recent pre-season
fixture, Ralf Fahrmann arrived from Schalke on loan and will more than likely
be the starting goalkeeper, bringing in a bit of top-level experience. There’s
a chance that Norwich could do well offensively based on the amount of goals
they’ve scored last season and throughout this pre-season but ultimately their
defence will be their problem. The Canaries will put up a fight, but it looks
like they’re going back down again.

19th:
Brighton

Brighton
managed to stay up last season by 2 points and controversially sacked Chris
Hughton and replaced him with Graham Potter. Hughton gained 3 points out of a
possible 27 in Brighton’s last 9 games of last season and that was apparently
enough to get rid of him. Similar to Newcastle, Potter seems to be a managerial
downgrade and the team itself hasn’t been performing excellently with all goals
coming from Glenn Murray and if he’s not scoring there’s no back up source. The
Seagulls have signed Trossard from Genk who scored 8 goals in last seasons
Europa League, he was playing in an advanced role in Belgium and he could
contribute a few goals this year. Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk’s defensive
pairing isn’t anything exciting, but Duffy does pop up with a few goals,
Brighton’s games will be high scoring this season with no defensive stability.
They’re not avoiding relegation this year.

20th:
Sheff United

The last of
the promoted teams and the 19/20 PL season’s bottom finishers. The Blades have
signed Jagielka for his second tenure at the club, Ben Osborn from Nottingham
Forest and then Lys Mousset from Bournemouth. A lot of expectation will be
surrounding star man Billy Sharp who has consistently performed for the last 4
seasons for Sheffield United, bringing them up from League One all the way to
the dizzy heights of the Premier League, he’s never played at anything like
this level so it will definitely be interesting to see if he can bag a few this
year. Defensively, outside of Jagielka none of the backline have any real
Premier League experience and with how the league is developing and how much
attacking threat every single team has, the Blades are going to be cut open
regularly. There’s not a single team I’d even consider putting bottom over this
lot.

There we
have it, the 1-20 for the Premier League. This season like any other will be
full of shocks but there’s never been a real threat of the usual candidates
having their regular positions changed. Here are some suggested bets for the PL
season and a prediction or two for individual awards.

Player of
the Season: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Top
Goalscorer: Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)

Manager of
the Season: Nuno Espirito Santo (Wolves)

Young
Player of the Season: Youri Tielemans (Leicester)

First
Manager to be sacked: Graham Potter (Brighton)

Top/Bottom
at Christmas: City/Brighton

There’s roughly 2 weeks until the Premier League season is back so it’s prime time to get your Fantasy Premier League teams together. This year FPL has really raised the bar on prices to cut down the usage of “big name” players which has made it harder than ever to assemble the 15 players. Despite the prices there’s still some players that hold good value, let me take you through my starting XI and why.

Between the Sticks

Sadly,
quite an obvious pick to start with but Alisson (LIV) represents a consistent
option in goal. Last season, the Brazilian achieved the second most clean
sheets during one season in PL history and Liverpool conceded 0.57 goals a
game. Usually it’s not necessarily wise to invest in the most expensive keepers
but with the huge price tags on other Liverpool defenders, Alisson will
undoubtedly rate a popular pick at 6.0 million. Liverpool also face three of
last season’s bottom 6, newly promoted Norwich and play Arsenal at home for
their first six fixtures which again helps his case.

Backline

Defensively
a back three is the starting point. It’s always best to pick full backs purely
because they contribute offensively aswell as defensively but saying that, we
start with my most expensive defender.

Aymeric
Laporte seems to be the only guaranteed starter week in week out for City’s
defence, the Guardiola carousel leaves players like Walker on the sidelines so
there’s an exception to be made when adding in this centre back. Laporte
managed to bag three goals and three assists in addition to his 18 clean sheets
last season and starts the year off with a few games that aren’t exactly
straight forward but it’s Man City, so expectation is always sky high.

Danny Rose
finished the season excellently last year with big performances in Spurs’
Champions League run and seems to have cemented his first team spot with them.
The English left back created 4 goals in last year’s campaign and starts his
season off with a game against Aston Villa at the new White Hart Lane, Villa
could potentially be an awkward team this year, but Spurs should get the job
done.

Watford
were a surprise package last season and any one of their defenders cost roughly
the same amount, but I’ve opted with Kiko Femenia, with exception of his
injuries last season he took part in every single PL game available. For a
player that’s going to cost you 4.5 million and from a side that very rarely
rotates, he’ll do the trick and he also loves getting forward.

Honorable Mention:

Lucas Digne
was a premium selection last season, he contributed 4 goals and 5 assists along
with 13 clean sheets and cost roughly 5-5.5 million for the majority of last
season. If it wasn’t for what is a pricey midfield (spoilers) he’d undoubtedly
have made my squad, even at an enhanced price of 6.0 million. Everton also have
a relatively stress free first 10 games of the season with only one fixture
against teams from last season’s top 6.

The Money Makers

Due to the
significant increase in price for the “premium picks”, a lot of my emphasis this
year will start through the midfield, there’s a huge amount of goalscoring
midfielders nowadays in the PL and money should be invested in these areas.

It wouldn’t
be a FPL team without Raheem Sterling. This season he’s going to cost you 12.0
million but based on previous years that’s a price worth spending, the winger
has scored 612 points in the last 3 seasons by scoring 42 goals and registering
46 assists. City have a tendency to rotate their forwards, but Sterling has
been the highest scoring City player two seasons in a row, he registered 32
goal contributions in 2770 minutes, working out as 86 minutes per goal/assist. There’s
no reason why he shouldn’t be first on your teamsheet.

Big hitter
number two, Sadio Mane (11.0 million). Last year, Mane finished the season exceptionally
with 15 goals in his last 16 PL games which also was enough to win the golden
boot. Of course, Mohamed Salah would be a good pick with his unbelievable 78
goal contributions in the last 2 seasons but for the extra money, it’s a big
ask and the expectation around Mane is now higher than ever. Liverpool have a
generous start to the season with 4 of the first 5 against relegation
candidates, keep a close eye on Sadio.

Bournemouth
youngster David Brooks (6.5 million), caught a lot of attention after his
transfer from Sheffield United for 11 million and quickly impressed in his
debut PL year. Unfortunately, he was sidelined on 3 separate occasions through
injury and a fully fit Brooks would be a dangerous player to have for such a
cheap price. Offensively, Bournemouth have been known to cause any team issues
and with the likes of Wilson, King and Fraser, Brooks will have endless
opportunity to create chances.

Youri
Tielemans joined Leicester on loan in January and in his 12 games, he
registered 8 assists and 3 goals. It’s astonishing that none of the top 6
swooped to try and sign this Belgian youngster, he dictated the game and showed
a level of maturity to his game that’s rare for a player that’s only 22 years
old. Leicester’s team as a whole has improved and with Brendan Rodgers at the helm,
they’re undoubtedly a team to keep an eye on as a whole, starting with
Tielemans.

The last
player in this 5 man midfield is Richarlison (8.0 million), the Brazilian
always starts the season well, he scored 8 in his first 17 PL appearances last
year and the season before that he scored all 5 of his goals in the first half
of the campaign. Everton finished the season excellently and in the last 10
games of the year they got the 4th most points in the league and it
wouldn’t be a surprise to see them continue their immense progress. Richarlison
is the main goal source for the side and is a necessary addition.

Honorable Mention:

Wilifred
Zaha has been moved back to a midfielder for this years FPL and he’s also a
bargain price at 7.0 million, there’s a lot of news surrounding him regarding
his future at Palace and the club has also had a poor pre-season, but Zaha is a
game changer and could be one to watch.

Mason Mount
has been kept at Chelsea following a loan spell under Lampard at Derby and has
been taking part in quite a lot of pre-season friendlies, unfortunately his
price hasn’t been released at the time of writing but he should be around the
5-5.5 million mark and could be worth that cheap investment price.

Up Top

What would
usually be the hard-hitting point earners has become a couple of reasonable
price steady point gatherers. Alexander Lacazette (9.5 million) is the first of
two strikers, the Arsenal forward scored 13 last year alongside 12 assists
which seemed to only be the start of him finally settling into the PL style. The
Frenchman tends to play as the main striker with Aubameyang playing in behind,
therefore will get the main bulk of the chances, Arsenal match up with Spurs
and Liverpool within their first 4 fixtures but after that there’s only one top
6 side in their 12 fixtures afterwards. Lacazette is a long-term option for
sure.

Diogo Jota (6.5
million) isn’t the obvious choice if you’re going for a Wolves forward with
Raul Jimenez available at 7.5 million but Jota ended last season on a high. The
Portuguese youngster really picked up towards the end of last season,
registering 9 goals and 8 assists and has also looked dangerous in pre-season,
bagging a couple against Newcastle in their semi-final of the PL Asian trophy
which Wolves went on to win vs Man City. Wolves have a tough start to the
season but from what we saw last year, they flourish under the pressure of a
big game, so I’m willing to take a gamble here.

Honorable Mention:

Mason Greenwood (4.5 million) is an exceptional talent and he’s only 17 years old, he played his first 90 minutes in the PL in the last game of last season against Cardiff and has gone on to play a fair bit in pre-season. The English wonderkid has scored his last 2 appearances, one in a 4-0 win against Leeds and the other a decisive goal in a 1-0 win against Inter. There’s absolutely no guarantee he’ll start but he’s the lowest price available for a top 6 side, surely that’s’ too much to turn down given the form he’s in too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMHlTD6ftQc -footage of Greenwood vs Inter

Below is a
photo of my starting squad for the first game of the season (subject to change,
injuries etc..) it fits the 100.0 million budget you are given and looks strong
across the board.

Good luck in
your mini leagues and the season people.

It’s up for
debate whether Chelsea fans should be worried or excited about this season with
the looming transfer ban, denying the Blues from strengthening their current
squad. With the departure of Eden Hazard it’s to be expected that Chelsea may
struggle without their little Belgian wizard.

Hazard has been Chelsea’s main man for the last 7 years and without the freedom to buy any players, it’s going to be down to the current squad to step up and fill the inevitable void. Callum Hudson-Odoi has been in rehabilitation showing excellent signs of progress after his ACL injury in April, the same applies to Ruben Loftus-Cheek who this week has been tweeting videos and photos of his exciting progress.

First day walking… never thought I’d struggle pushing 5kg 😂✨💪🏾 pic.twitter.com/pNbEQJV5e6
— Ruben Loftus-Cheek (@rubey_lcheek) July 4, 2019

Frank
Lampard’s arrival is the obvious talking point and also the centre of
controversy, on one hand he’s a club legend and one of the most influential
Chelsea players of all time but he’s also fresh on the managerial scene,
finishing 6th with Derby in his first season; which isn’t a
particularly memorable season for Derby. He’s made it clear that he knows the
academy well and will be involving players throughout pre-season and during the
season aswell which sets up a completely different season to what we’ve seen in
previous years.

Above is an expected line-up (when the squad is fully fit)

Lampard has
also mentioned that he wants to restore Chelsea’s core by bringing former
players who know and love the club back as a management team, Petr Cech has
already returned as a technical director and Jody Morris is now assistant
manager. Frank’s also announced plans of bringing back Didier Drogba and John
Terry in future which is nothing less than incredible to hear for Chelsea fans.

The
starting XI for the Blues will undoubtedly look very different this year with a
slow integration of youth but with the squad provided for Frank, the formation
should be similar to Sarri’s 4-3-3 from last season. Fortunately, the squad has
exceptional depth due to years of having players out on loan which allows
plenty of opportunity and competition for starting spots. Reece James has
returned from being on loan at Wigan after an exceptional season where he even
ended up as captain for a time and if you bear in mind that he’s only 19, that
only takes a peek into his potential.

Kurt Zouma
has always been a real physical specimen and looks ready for the big stage at
Chelsea. The Frenchman has had season long tenures on loan at Stoke and Everton
and has played at least 85% of the games at those clubs, giving him the regular
experience in the Premier League. After seeing videos of him training and the
general atmosphere surrounding him, it seems as if he may be quickly moved into
the first team.

With
exception of Diego Costa, Chelsea’s top goal scorer in all competitions hasn’t
been a striker since 2012 and even then, the strikers only tend to be reaching
around 20 goals which in comparison to other top teams in the Premier League is
lower than expected. It’s a tough ask for any of the current Chelsea strikers
to be reaching the heights of that but between Giroud, Batshuayi and Abraham
they’ll have to find a way. It’s a tough to decipher who will be filling the
vacant striker position to start the season but with Giroud’s domestic
inconsistency the chance could be given to Michy Batshuayi. He scored 5 goals
in his 11 appearances on loan at Crystal Palace last season and in comparison to
Giroud’s 2 in 27, it seems like a straight forward decision.

Tammy Abraham has spent 2 of the last 3
seasons on loan in the championship and has scored 49 goals in 81 appearances,
the goal per game ratio is hugely impressive and he’s also only 21. The
question is, could he hack it in the Premier League? There’s absolutely no
reason why he shouldn’t be given the chance, especially with a new manager with
a potentially new mentality and tactics.

This season
is bound to be exciting one way or another and it’s also one that’ll be
intended to build the club for the future. After sales of Hazard, Morata, Kalas
and Aina there’s money to be spent next Summer and it’ll be very interesting to
see what happens then with Lampard, if he’s still there, of course.

A top 6
finish is the minimum expectation as per usual and should definitely be doable,
but all pressure is surrounding Lampard, let’s sit back and see.

USA have faced South American nations on just six previous occasions at the Women’s World Cup, winning four and losing once (D1).

USA have never lost the second match in a group stage round at the Women’s World Cup (W6 D1).

USA’s 13-0 win over Thailand was the biggest ever win at a FIFA World Cup tournament in history (men’s and women’s).

Chile are winless in 10 matches in all competitions, drawing three and losing seven times since a 3-2 win against Australia in November 2018.

USA had 40 shots in their comprehensive victory over Thailand – nine more than their fellow Group F rivals had combined on MD1 (Sweden 24, Chile 5, Thailand 2), while only three teams (excluding USA) had more shots on target on MD1 than striker Alex Morgan (6), who scored five times.

This will be Sweden’s 35th match in the FIFA Women’s World Cup but it will be their first against Thailand.

Sweden have lost just two of their nine previous Women’s World Cup fixtures against Asian opponents (W6 D1), with their last such match ending in defeat (1-3 vs Japan in 2011).

Thailand have lost both of their Women’s World Cup games against European nations by a 0-4 scoreline (vs Norway and Germany in 2015).

Only Spain (27) and the USA (40) attempted more shots on MD1 than Sweden (24), while opponents Thailand attempted the fewest shots across the 24 teams at the tournament (2), although they were the only team to direct all of their attempts on target.

Thailand’s 0-13 defeat to the USA was the heaviest at any World Cup tournament in history (men’s and women’s) – they have conceded 23 goals in four Women’s World Cup games at an average of 5.8 per game, the highest ratio in the competition’s history.

Football Index is delighted to announce an agreement with Nottingham Forest Football Club as the new front-of-shirt partner, in what represents the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in both the brand’s and the club’s history.

By becoming Forest’s shirt sponsor, Football Index will now proudly display its logo on the front of the club’s first-team and adult replica shirts from the beginning of the 2019-20 Championship season.

Football Index is a revolutionary gambling platform and the world’s first football stock market. The platform allows traders to buy and sell shares in over 3,000 professional footballers with real money – offering football fans a chance to bet on the future success of football players, rather than gambling on the short-lived outcome of football matches.

The platform operates with all the characteristics of a stock market, with traders buying units of footballers (known as “shares”), building their football portfolios and trying to sell at a profit. The model presents a responsible and sustainable alternative to regular betting whilst enabling fans to profit from their football knowledge.

Football Index’s partnership with Nottingham Forest builds on its presence in the professional game following the platform’s previous kit deal with Bristol Rovers.

The agreement represents another sign of Forest’s growing commercial stature within the UK and is the start of an exciting partnership with one of football’s newest platforms.

Neil Kelly, Chief Executive Officer of BetIndex Ltd, Football Index’s parent company, said:

“We’re thrilled to have Football Index front and centre on the new Nottingham Forest kit – a club steeped in history with an expansive and proud fanbase. We’re very excited to see this partnership build awareness of the Football Index brand across an engaged football audience for 2019/20 season.

“This landmark partnership marks a significant milestone in the brand’s journey and illustrates the ambitions we hold for the platform. We look forward to working with the team at Forest to deliver a successful sponsorship that truly benefits all stakeholders – from the fans to Football Index’s loyal customers.”

Nottingham Forest Football Club’s Chief Commercial Officer, David Cook, said:

“The club are delighted to announce this new partnership with a growing and exciting brand. Like Nottingham Forest, Football Index has a pioneering spirit built in their DNA and the brand fit has shone through during our various discussions.

“Across the partnership we look forward to offering our fans some great benefits and incentives whilst providing a strong platform for Football Index to achieve their marketing objectives. As a club, we are delighted that we have been able to secure the biggest shirt sponsorship in our history and it shows Football Index’s commitment and belief in Nottingham Forest.”
