42.
The Premier League is, as ever, living up to its reputation as one of the most fascinating of Europe’s big 5 championships.

43.
44.
45.
46.
Bar leaders Liverpool, nobody looks to have much of a divine right to win the title.

47.
48.
49.
50.
The top-three teams in the table are all favored to win on Matchday 6 as per MyTopSportsbooks, but two are at real risk of dropping points in the title race.

51.
52.
53.
54.
Manchester City are a prohibitive 1/8 favorite to stop their losing skid at one when they host Watford (19/1).

55.
56.
57.
58.
But Tottenham are only a tepid 13/10 favorite at Leicester (2/1), while Liverpool are 1/1 to beat Chelsea (5/2) at Stamford Bridge. Already five points clear of the field, if the Reds can pick up the full three at Chelsea, they will truly be in the driver’s seat for this season’s league title.

59.
60.
61.
62.
There are few scenarios one can see City not winning the title again this season, they’ve been unbelievable for years and are only strengthening their squad. Pep decided to add Spanish centre midfielder Rodri to the side, completing his record breaking £62.8 million deal, City’s highest in their history.

63.
64.
65.
66.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were joint top goal scorers last season and there’s no signs of them stopping their destructive streak. The Reds’ defence is what really changes games, conceding 0.57 goals a game last season and Alisson reeled in 21 clean sheets but with the standard of squads going up, the goals will have to match last seasons, it’ll be a surprise to see them match City.

67.
68.
69.
70.
Arsenal have been falling victim to a small transfer budgetthis season and had signed Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid and Saliba from Saint Etienne (loaned back) before instant developments towards signing Lille’s Nicolas Pepe.

71.
72.
73.
74.
The quality of the English top flight beyond say the top six is highly questionable, which makes life nothing shy of interesting for those trying to find solutions to betting quandaries. There are no obvious outside bets.

75.
76.
77.
78.
Indeed, this title race is looking much like it did last season, a waiting game to see who (if any of the favoured sides) succumb to mediocrity.

114.

115.
Frank
116. Lampard is yet to register a PL win as a manager after facing tough games
117. against Manchester United and Leicester but comes into a game that would have
118. been considered a bit easier before the season started, against newly promoted
119. Norwich. For the Blues, that will not even remotely be the case after Norwich
120. have started the season with true intention, bagging a goal and creating plenty
121. of chances against Liverpool but then disposing of Newcastle in stylish
122. fashion.

123.
124.
125.
126.
Teemu Pukki
127. has been the mastermind behind the Canaries’ last year or so, the Finnish
128. striker scored 29 in the 18/19 Championship campaign and has started the PL
129. season with 4 goals in 2, including a hattrick against Newcastle. He’s looking
130. a real threat and the step up in quality of football really doesn’t seem to
131. have phased him. Todd Cantwell was responsible for two of the assists for Pukki
132. against Newcastle and the 21-year-old Englishman looked dangerous cutting in
133. from a wide role. It’s clear that Daniel Farke has embedded a real attacking
134. style in Norwich and it’s working tenfold.

135.
136.
137.
138.
Chelsea
139. haven’t had the greatest starts with Lampard’s winless tenure thus far, but
140. this season will be used purely to create the team he’s going to use in the
141. future. Mason Mount has been a prime example of the youth coming through at the
142. moment, he’s played the full 90 minutes in both of Chelsea’s games so far and
143. scored his first PL goal in the Blues 1-1 draw with Leicester last weekend. In
144. addition, at Derby (still under Lampard), he scored in their away fixture
145. against Norwich last season in a 4-3 victory.

146.
147.
148.
149.

Mason Mount, Chelsea celebrating after scoring his team’s first goal during the Premier League match against Leicester

150.
151.
152.
153.
The glaring
154. issue in the Chelsea camp seems to be defensively, in their last 5 away games
155. in all competitions they’ve conceded 15 goals and have conceded 5 in their
156. first 2 PL games. The new backline has bags of youth coming through and they’re
157. clearly still adapting to being at the top level, all there’s to be said for
158. now is they will leak goals.

159.
160.
161.
162.
Talking of
163. goals, Norwich tend to be involved in high scoring home fixtures, in their last
164. 9 games in all competitions, 8 of them have had over 2.5 goals where Chelsea
165. have had over 2.5 in 7 of their last 9. Norwich’s consistency offensively and
166. Chelsea’s current form, this will make for a high scoring game.

167.
168.
169.
170.
If you’re
171. looking for a selection to place a bet on for this game, Pukki to score, draw
172. and over 2.5 is roughly available at 14/1.

173.
174.
175.
176.
Teemu Pukki
177. to score is available at roughly 6/4 too, which looks a steal.

211.
Leicester v Wolves (2PM)

212.
213.
214.
215.
The first
216. of today’s 2pm kick offs is going to be contested by two of the hottest teams
217. in the Premier League at the moment with Leicester possessing a new outlook under
218. Rodgers and Wolves battling through the Europa League qualifiers in emphatic
219. style.

220.
221.
222.
223.
In last season’s
224. meetings between the sides, Leicester walked away 2-0 victors but that was Wolves’
225. second game back in the PL and first away topflight game in 7 years. Since that
226. date, Wolves have gone on to secure Europa League qualification and play their
227. first games in the qualifiers in recent weeks.

228.
229.
230.
231.
Raul Jimenez
232. has scored 4 goals in Wolves’ last 2 EL games as part of impressive 4-0 and 4-1
233. wins to kick off their competitive season, last season he scored 13 PL goals and
234. reeled in 10 assists in the Premier League and was a vital part of what was
235. such a successful season. Diogo Jota performed towards the end of the previous
236. campaign with 7 goals between January-May which also included a hat-trick in
237. Leicester and Wolves most recent meeting.

238.
239.
240.
241.

Wolves’ Raul Jimenez (centre right) celebrates scoring his side’s first goal of the game during the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round second leg against Crusaders.

242.
243.
244.
245.
The Foxes
246. have been excellent since they’ve been under new management and furthermore,
247. they notched two home clean sheets in the last two games of last season against
248. Chelsea and Arsenal, which also included a convincing 3-0 win over the Gunners.
249.

250.
251.
252.
253.
Leicester
254. have had less pre-season games which could suggest they’re not as prepared to
255. dive into such a competitive game as a match-ready Wolves but with last season’s
256. form and Leicester’s home form in general, a Leicester win could be on the
257. cards. In contradiction to that, Harry Maguires sale could rock the camp, but
258. we’ve been unable to see that because since the transfer has been completed,
259. Leicester haven’t played a game.

260.
261.
262.
263.
Leicester
264. 2-1 seems a reasonable prediction but it’s hard to tell how hard the Maguire
265. loss will hit, Jota and Jimenez are very dangerous, and Wolves may already be
266. wound up after pre-season, this isn’t one for a bet.

267.
268.
269.
270.
Man United v Chelsea (4:30PM)

271.
272.
273.
274.
Frank Lampard’s
275. first competitive game couldn’t have been a more suitable test. United have
276. been under recent work with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking over in December 2018
277. and Chelsea are undergoing the same refurbishments also under the transfer ban.
278.

279.
280.
281.
282.
United have
283. improved their weaker areas immensely with the signings of Aaron Wan-Bissaka
284. and Harry Maguire, the English pairing were superb in the 18/19 season for Palace
285. and Leicester respectively and they should slot straight into the United XI
286. today. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial scored 5 goals between them in pre-season
287. and the youthful pairing will really flourish this season. Martial scored 2
288. goals in the fixture last season at Stamford Bridge which finished in a 2-2
289. draw with Ross Barkley also scoring a 96th minute equalizer.

290.
291.
292.
293.

294.
295.
296.
297.
Barkley has
298. been outstanding in pre-season with goals in his last 4 games and a couple of
299. assists thrown in aswell and is really starting to prove under Lampard why he
300. was signed in the first place. The Englishman has never registered more than 8
301. goals in a PL season but with Lampard’s guidance he could really undergo a molding
302. process.

303.
304.
305.
306.
Chelsea’s
307. defensive line could be surrounded by skepticism with the departure of David
308. Luiz, with exception of Azpilicueta the back 4 will all be under the age of 25
309. with limited regular first team football at this level. N’Golo Kante’s fitness
310. is up for debate which also adds to the potential defensive woes.

311.
312.
313.
314.
Chelsea
315. have scored 13 goals in their last 4 pre-season games but have also conceded 9
316. which averages out at 5.5 goals a game, with United’s defensive reinforcements
317. and Chelsea’s current goal filled games, this could be an entertaining one.

318.
319.
320.
321.
A 2-2 draw
322. sounds accurate, Barkley to score and match result- draw is generally available
323. at 16/1.

324.
325.
326.

344.
Another
345. year, another PL season. It really does feel like it’s said on repeat but this
346. season looks like it’s going to be one of the most competitive seasons in
347. recent times with some of the top 6 having trouble, and the teams surrounding
348. making serious progress towards breaking into that illustrious top 6. This
349. year’s promoted teams are Norwich, Aston Villa and Sheffield United, with the
350. 18/19 season ending with the relegation of Huddersfield, Cardiff and Fulham;
351. two of which were promoted the season before. Let’s attempt to breakdown each
352. teams chances this year with a league table prediction alongside, starting from
353. the top.

354.
355.
356.
357.
1st:
358. Manchester City

359.
360.
361.
362.
There’s no
363. scenario I can see City not winning the title again this season, they’ve been
364. unbelievable for years and are only strengthening their squad. Pep decided to
365. add Spanish centre midfielder Rodri to the side, completing his record breaking
366. £62.8 million deal, City’s highest in their history. In regard to losses,
367. Vincent Kompany moved back to Belgium to pursue management and Fabian Delph
368. left but that’s not going to cause any issues for a City team going strength to
369. strength. City have managed to achieve 198 points in the last 2 PL seasons,
370. meaning they’ve only dropped 30 points in 76 games, there’s way too much going
371. for City to see them slowing down.

381.
382.
383.
384.
After the
385. 18/19 season and registering the 3rd most points in a PL season ever,
386. Liverpool come into this season looking to keep the pressure on City and
387. continue their progress towards their first ever PL title. Liverpool’s
388. pre-season hasn’t been as strong as what would have been expected with 2 wins
389. over low league opposition and since going 4 games without a win. Mohamed Salah
390. and Sadio Mane were joint top goal scorers last season and there’s no signs of
391. them stopping their destructive streak. The Reds defence is what really changes
392. games, conceding 0.57 goals a game last season and Alisson reeled in 21 clean
393. sheets but with the standard of squads going up, the goals will have to match
394. last seasons, it’ll be a surprise to see them match City.

395.

397.
398.
3rd:
399. Tottenham

400.
401.
402.
403.
Tottenham
404. have done the impossible by spending money to make a transfer this transfer
405. window! Tanguy N’Dombele arrived from Lyon for £55 million and has made appearances
406. in all their pre-season fixtures, considering Spurs have done so well without
407. any money spent, this season could be interesting how they develop. Spurs’
408. pre-season has involved beatings of Real Madrid and Juventus, the latter via a
409. winning goal from the half-way line by Harry Kane. Kieran Trippier has been
410. sold to Atletico for £21 million but that does make way for Kyle Walker-Peters
411. who registered 3 assists in his limited 374 minutes last season. If the young
412. Englishman is given time in the first team it could be a breakthrough season
413. for him. A season without injury with the same squad looks strong enough to
414. slot into third behind the two big hitters this year.

423. Manchester United

424.
425.
426.
427.
Now, this 4th
428. place spot is the one that is up for the most debate. United have won all their
429. pre-season games including wins over Inter and Tottenham. It’s known that
430. pre-season doesn’t always mean a lot but there have been some very impressive
431. performances from new signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka who arrived from Palace for £55
432. million. If the likes of Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelöf can stay fit, perhaps
433. United can strengthen their defence back to what it has been in previous years.
434. Last season, David de Gea kept a mere 7 clean sheets, 4 less than any of his
435. previous years in the Premier League. United have got a real task on their
436. hands but with the improvements in their defence it should be enough to see
437. them improve on what was a disappointing season last year.

438.
439.
440.
441.
5TH:
442. Arsenal

443.
444.
445.
446.
Arsenal
447. have been falling victim to a small transfer budget this season and had signed
448. Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid and Saliba from Saint Etienne (loaned back)
449. before instant developments towards signing Lille’s Nicolas Pepe. The Ivorian
450. winger scored 22 goals and got 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season, guiding Lille
451. to a shock 2nd place finish, they finished 17th the
452. season before. The transfer fee is supposedly £75-80 million but that’s exactly
453. what Arsenal have needed in recent years, a bit of financial backing. It goes
454. without saying the strike force of last years golden boot winner Aubameyang,
455. Lacazette and Pepe will be an onslaught for any defence, but Arsenal’s backline
456. hasn’t improved. There’s not long until the start of the season and it’s likely
457. that Arsenal will score plenty of goals but will be leaky at the back, until
458. those improvements are made it’s hard to see the Gunners break back into the
459. top 4.

460.

467.
6th: Chelsea

468.
469.
470.
471.
What is
472. bound to be a tough season for Chelsea this season also shouldn’t be judged.
473. It’s the first managerial season for Frank Lampard at the top level and he’s
474. also walked into a Chelsea side under a two-window transfer ban. Mateo Kovacic was
475. purchased after being on loan last season, but the squad will remain the same
476. with exception of a few sales. Morata was sold after a disappointing tenure,
477. prospects Kalas and DaSilva both were sold to Bristol City and of course, Eden
478. Hazard’s eventual sale to Real Madrid. The gap that Hazard’s departure will
479. cause is going to ripple throughout Chelsea’s season and will more than likely
480. cause issues offensively. Chelsea’s team is very youthful and it’s a tough one
481. to call on who will step up and create the chances. Chelsea finishing 6th
482. sounds a minimum expectation but with the improvements of my predicted 7th
483. it’s going to be a close battle.

484.
485.
486.
487.
7th:
488. Wolves

489.
490.
491.
492.
Wolves are
493. an interesting one. After 17/18’s promotion to the Premier League they
494. surprised a lot of people with a 7th place finish and were 9 points from
495. United in 6th. This transfer window they’ve added further quality
496. into their side with permanent signings of Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker,
497. they’ve also got the services of Jesus Vallejo on loan from Real Madrid to
498. strengthen their backline and Patrick Cutrone from Milan. Last season Wolves
499. had an excellent record against the top 6 and struggled on occasion with seeing
500. out games against the smaller teams, if they were to gain a bit of consistency
501. there’s not much reason why they couldn’t pull off a shock by finding a way
502. into that seemingly staple top 6.

503.
504.
505.
506.
8th:
507. Leicester

508.
509.
510.
511.
Brendan Rodgers’
512. arrival in February changed the way Leicester performed, they finished the
513. season in 9th last year but in their 10 PL games under Rodgers,
514. Vardy scored 10 goals and upped his shots per game from 2.4 to 2.9. Leicester’s
515. pass completion rate also went from 75% to 81% and they had a 50%-win rate in those
516. first PL games under Brendan. This year is a fresh page and gives the Foxes a
517. real chance to continue those performances under what is looking like a very
518. dangerous team with a real chance for European football this year. There’s been
519. a lot of talk about Harry Maguire potentially leaving, if Leicester were able
520. to lock him down and keep him at the club, they’ll be able to really challenge
521. for 7th place, if not higher. Youri Tielemans also made his loan
522. move from last year permanent and Ayoze Perez also switched from Tyneside to
523. strengthen an already powerful frontline. Keep a close eye.

524.
525.
526.
527.
9th:
528. Everton

529.
530.
531.
532.
Marco Silva
533. got a fine tune out of this Everton side towards the end of last season with
534. wins against Chelsea, United, Arsenal and then draws against Spurs and
535. Liverpool. Everton have brought in Fabian Delph and secured Andre Gomes on a
536. deal from Barcelona after a successful loan last year. Unfortunately, PSG
537. swooped in for Idrissa Gueye leaving a slight gap in the defensive midfield
538. area that Fabian Delph may well fill, but Everton’s strength is offensively.
539. Richarlison tends to start the season well regardless of the team he’s at and
540. Sigurdsson has participated in 15 goals or more in 4 of the last 5 seasons.
541. Everton have a very solid first 11 and look a certainty for a top half finish
542. with a few surprises against big sides along the way.

547. West Ham

548.
549.
550.
551.
Sebastian
552. Haller has arrived in east London from Frankfurt for a club record fee of £45
553. million after an impressive season in Germany in which he scored 15 goals and
554. got 9 assists in 29 appearances. After the exit of Arnautovic, Carroll and
555. Lucas Perez the Frenchman is exactly the position they needed to strengthen,
556. and he looks as if he could play a real role in West Ham’s season. Pablo
557. Fornals also arrived from Villarreal and has been linking up very well with
558. Haller in pre-season, providing a couple of assists already. On the other hand,
559. West Ham still have a very hit and miss defensive line and the potential
560. striking strength alone wouldn’t be enough to compete with these 9 teams above
561. them, a mid-table finish sounds about right.

571.
572.
573.
574.
Bournemouth
575. are always an absolute delight to watch, Eddie Howe has embedded a style of
576. attacking football that really does work with the likes of Callum Wilson and
577. Josh King leading the line. The pairing has scored 42 goals and registered 21
578. assists between them in the last two seasons and with Wilson having injury
579. blows the last couple of seasons it’ll be interesting to see if he can stay fit
580. the whole year. Ryan Fraser assisted 14 goals last season and was the second
581. highest in the assist charts just behind Eden Hazard, all of the Bournemouth
582. attack contribute fairly regularly, and it’ll be down to whether they can stay
583. solid defensively for their chances this year. Disappointingly, they haven’t
584. signed any top-level proven defenders, they’ve acquired Jack Stacey from Luton
585. for a cheap fee, but he’s never played in a league higher than League One. A
586. season full of goals but a bottom half finish for the Cherries.

596.
597.
598.
599.
The highest
600. ranked newly promoted side for the 19/20 season should be Aston Villa. This
601. summer they’ve made a net spend of £115 million with a deal for Tom Heaton for
602. a further £8 million on the verge of going through. A few examples of the
603. players they’ve signed are: Targett, Douglas Luiz, Trezeguet and Wesley
604. (Southampton, City, Kasimpasa and Brugge) but they’ve also made loan deals from
605. last season permanent with Konsa, Mings and El Ghazi. Dean Smith arrived
606. October 2018 whilst Villa were 14th, and towards the end of last year’s
607. campaign Villa went on a 10-game winning run to secure the play-off spots and
608. then went on to win the play-offs for promotion. Offensively, the side looks
609. very threatening with the likes of Jack Grealish really starting to thrive in a
610. team better equipped for his playmaking needs, there’s a chance Villa could do
611. a similar thing to Fulham, but it seems a lot more unlikely.

620. Watford

621.
622.
623.
624.
Watford are
625. one of those teams that many people will underestimate, they tend to have a
626. very sturdy record at home and don’t play flashy football but will grind out
627. results regularly. They’ve had a very quiet transfer window only signing Craig
628. Dawson from West Brom and not selling anyone of real relevance. Last season
629. marked a historic moment for the Hornets, registering their highest ever PL
630. finish and the likes of Gerard Deulofeu looked very good during the season. The
631. Spaniard was tipped to be one of the best whilst at Barcelona but hasn’t quite
632. lived up to his potential, he’s been doing quite well at Watford though and he
633. should be the main man this season once again. Also, with the changes/addition of
634. VAR you can expect to see Troy Deeney score a few more goals, mainly through
635. penalties.

640. Crystal Palace

641.
642.
643.
644.
Palace have
645. had a torrid pre-season and there’s been endless speculation about the future
646. of star player Wilfred Zaha. The Ivorian winger hasn’t played a part in
647. Palace’s pre-season and seems to be on the way out, but there’s no real links
648. towards where he is going. If Zaha was to leave, it’d leave a real gap in the
649. side with no real star quality left in the squad. Luka Milivojevic has scored
650. 10 or more goals in the last 2 seasons, but the majority have been from the
651. penalty spot, mostly won by Wilfred Zaha. This season’s survival is surrounded
652. by whether Zaha stays or not, if he was to stay Palace, they shouldn’t have any
653. problem staying up but with his exclusion from the squad, this prediction of 14th
654. could easily be 3 or 4 places lower.

659. Southampton

660.
661.
662.
663.
The Saints
664. had a tough season last year and for the most of it they looked as if they were
665. going to drop down to the Championship for the first time in 8 years. They
666. finished last season in 16th and changes had to be made so Ralph Hasenhüttl went out and signed Che
667. Adams from Birmingham City, the young English striker scored 22 last season and
668. has scored in all his Southampton appearances thus far. Moussa Djenepo has also
669. arrived from Standard Liege, the 21-year-old from Mali scored 3 goals in 5
670. appearances in last year’s UEL which stands him in good stead transferring over
671. to the highest level. The problem really does lie defensively with Southampton
672. though and unfortunately there’s been no bolstering of the backline to justify
673. predicting them a higher finish than the bottom 6.

683.
684.
685.
686.
16th
687. seems a fair prediction for Burnley but with the side that Sean Dyche has put
688. together in comparison to other sides around them, it wouldn’t be a surprise to
689. see them pushing towards the mid-table area. Chris Wood has scored 10 or more
690. goals in his last 4 seasons he’s taken a part in and bagged a hat-trick in a
691. 6-1 thumping of Nice in pre-season. Burnley never have a large transfer budget
692. but managed to sign Jay Rodriguez from West Brom to add to what seems like a decent
693. attack already alongside Barnes, Wood and Vydra. Nick Pope is unfortunately
694. still injured which will leave Joe Hart in goal to start the season, but he’s
695. still got a huge point to prove after the downhill spiral since Man City.
696. Tarkowski and Ben Mee will lead the defensive line as they have done for years
697. but the real problems for Burnley stem from the midfield. There’s a huge lack
698. of real defensive or offensive presences which will allow teams to dictate
699. possession consistently, one big signing could move them further up with ease.

704. Newcastle

705.
706.
707.
708.
The Magpies
709. have been in a serious dilemma this summer. Rafael Benitez left in June after
710. not seeing eye to eye with Mike Ashley and the board about the future of the
711. club, so they replaced him with Steve Bruce. Steve Bruce is nowhere near as
712. established as Rafa and is a serious downgrade, and the transfer window that’s
713. come alongside has also not been very favourable for the Toon. After Ayoze
714. Perez’ excellent finish to last season Leicester snapped him up and Joselu also
715. left for Spain after a very poor run. Bruce has signed Joelinton as a
716. replacement for both of those players, the Brazilian 22 year old has scored his
717. first goal already in pre-season and looks like he could score a few this
718. season but he seems to be the only real source of goals available with
719. exception of Miguel Almiron who signed last season. In the defensive half,
720. Newcastle look reasonable with the likes of Lascelles and in goal, Dubravka who
721. will be on hand to keep them in the PL. It’s going to be a rocky road to start
722. the season for Newcastle, let’s see what January brings.

731. Norwich

732.
733.
734.
735.
The second
736. of the promoted Championship teams brings us to the title winners, Norwich.
737. Norwich were excellent in the Championship last season, specifically Teemu
738. Pukki who rattled in 29 goals in 45 appearances. Patrick Roberts has arrived on
739. loan from Man City and scored an absolute scorcher in a recent pre-season
740. fixture, Ralf Fahrmann arrived from Schalke on loan and will more than likely
741. be the starting goalkeeper, bringing in a bit of top-level experience. There’s
742. a chance that Norwich could do well offensively based on the amount of goals
743. they’ve scored last season and throughout this pre-season but ultimately their
744. defence will be their problem. The Canaries will put up a fight, but it looks
745. like they’re going back down again.

746.
747.
748.
749.
19th:
750. Brighton

751.
752.
753.
754.
Brighton
755. managed to stay up last season by 2 points and controversially sacked Chris
756. Hughton and replaced him with Graham Potter. Hughton gained 3 points out of a
757. possible 27 in Brighton’s last 9 games of last season and that was apparently
758. enough to get rid of him. Similar to Newcastle, Potter seems to be a managerial
759. downgrade and the team itself hasn’t been performing excellently with all goals
760. coming from Glenn Murray and if he’s not scoring there’s no back up source. The
761. Seagulls have signed Trossard from Genk who scored 8 goals in last seasons
762. Europa League, he was playing in an advanced role in Belgium and he could
763. contribute a few goals this year. Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk’s defensive
764. pairing isn’t anything exciting, but Duffy does pop up with a few goals,
765. Brighton’s games will be high scoring this season with no defensive stability.
766. They’re not avoiding relegation this year.

767.
768.
769.
770.
20th:
771. Sheff United

772.
773.
774.
775.
The last of
776. the promoted teams and the 19/20 PL season’s bottom finishers. The Blades have
777. signed Jagielka for his second tenure at the club, Ben Osborn from Nottingham
778. Forest and then Lys Mousset from Bournemouth. A lot of expectation will be
779. surrounding star man Billy Sharp who has consistently performed for the last 4
780. seasons for Sheffield United, bringing them up from League One all the way to
781. the dizzy heights of the Premier League, he’s never played at anything like
782. this level so it will definitely be interesting to see if he can bag a few this
783. year. Defensively, outside of Jagielka none of the backline have any real
784. Premier League experience and with how the league is developing and how much
785. attacking threat every single team has, the Blades are going to be cut open
786. regularly. There’s not a single team I’d even consider putting bottom over this
787. lot.

788.
789.
790.
791.
There we
792. have it, the 1-20 for the Premier League. This season like any other will be
793. full of shocks but there’s never been a real threat of the usual candidates
794. having their regular positions changed. Here are some suggested bets for the PL
795. season and a prediction or two for individual awards.

796.
797.
798.
799.
Player of
800. the Season: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

801.
802.
803.
804.
Top
805. Goalscorer: Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)

806.
807.
808.
809.
Manager of
810. the Season: Nuno Espirito Santo (Wolves)

811.
812.
813.
814.
Young
815. Player of the Season: Youri Tielemans (Leicester)

816.
817.
818.
819.
First
820. Manager to be sacked: Graham Potter (Brighton)

821.
822.
823.

865.
There’s roughly 2 weeks until the Premier League season is back so it’s prime time to get your Fantasy Premier League teams together. This year FPL has really raised the bar on prices to cut down the usage of “big name” players which has made it harder than ever to assemble the 15 players. Despite the prices there’s still some players that hold good value, let me take you through my starting XI and why.

866.
867.
868.
869.
Between the Sticks

870.
871.
872.
873.
Sadly,
874. quite an obvious pick to start with but Alisson (LIV) represents a consistent
875. option in goal. Last season, the Brazilian achieved the second most clean
876. sheets during one season in PL history and Liverpool conceded 0.57 goals a
877. game. Usually it’s not necessarily wise to invest in the most expensive keepers
878. but with the huge price tags on other Liverpool defenders, Alisson will
879. undoubtedly rate a popular pick at 6.0 million. Liverpool also face three of
880. last season’s bottom 6, newly promoted Norwich and play Arsenal at home for
881. their first six fixtures which again helps his case.

882.
883.
884.
885.
Backline

886.
887.
888.
889.
Defensively
890. a back three is the starting point. It’s always best to pick full backs purely
891. because they contribute offensively aswell as defensively but saying that, we
892. start with my most expensive defender.

893.
894.
895.
896.
Aymeric
897. Laporte seems to be the only guaranteed starter week in week out for City’s
898. defence, the Guardiola carousel leaves players like Walker on the sidelines so
899. there’s an exception to be made when adding in this centre back. Laporte
900. managed to bag three goals and three assists in addition to his 18 clean sheets
901. last season and starts the year off with a few games that aren’t exactly
902. straight forward but it’s Man City, so expectation is always sky high.

903.
904.
905.
906.

907.
908.
909.
910.
Danny Rose
911. finished the season excellently last year with big performances in Spurs’
912. Champions League run and seems to have cemented his first team spot with them.
913. The English left back created 4 goals in last year’s campaign and starts his
914. season off with a game against Aston Villa at the new White Hart Lane, Villa
915. could potentially be an awkward team this year, but Spurs should get the job
916. done.

917.
918.
919.
920.
Watford
921. were a surprise package last season and any one of their defenders cost roughly
922. the same amount, but I’ve opted with Kiko Femenia, with exception of his
923. injuries last season he took part in every single PL game available. For a
924. player that’s going to cost you 4.5 million and from a side that very rarely
925. rotates, he’ll do the trick and he also loves getting forward.

926.
927.
928.
929.
Honorable Mention:

930.
931.
932.
933.
Lucas Digne
934. was a premium selection last season, he contributed 4 goals and 5 assists along
935. with 13 clean sheets and cost roughly 5-5.5 million for the majority of last
936. season. If it wasn’t for what is a pricey midfield (spoilers) he’d undoubtedly
937. have made my squad, even at an enhanced price of 6.0 million. Everton also have
938. a relatively stress free first 10 games of the season with only one fixture
939. against teams from last season’s top 6.

940.
941.
942.
943.
The Money Makers

944.
945.
946.
947.
Due to the
948. significant increase in price for the “premium picks”, a lot of my emphasis this
949. year will start through the midfield, there’s a huge amount of goalscoring
950. midfielders nowadays in the PL and money should be invested in these areas.

951.
952.
953.
954.
It wouldn’t
955. be a FPL team without Raheem Sterling. This season he’s going to cost you 12.0
956. million but based on previous years that’s a price worth spending, the winger
957. has scored 612 points in the last 3 seasons by scoring 42 goals and registering
958. 46 assists. City have a tendency to rotate their forwards, but Sterling has
959. been the highest scoring City player two seasons in a row, he registered 32
960. goal contributions in 2770 minutes, working out as 86 minutes per goal/assist. There’s
961. no reason why he shouldn’t be first on your teamsheet.

962.
963.
964.
965.
Big hitter
966. number two, Sadio Mane (11.0 million). Last year, Mane finished the season exceptionally
967. with 15 goals in his last 16 PL games which also was enough to win the golden
968. boot. Of course, Mohamed Salah would be a good pick with his unbelievable 78
969. goal contributions in the last 2 seasons but for the extra money, it’s a big
970. ask and the expectation around Mane is now higher than ever. Liverpool have a
971. generous start to the season with 4 of the first 5 against relegation
972. candidates, keep a close eye on Sadio.

973.
974.
975.
976.

977.
978.
979.
980.
Bournemouth
981. youngster David Brooks (6.5 million), caught a lot of attention after his
982. transfer from Sheffield United for 11 million and quickly impressed in his
983. debut PL year. Unfortunately, he was sidelined on 3 separate occasions through
984. injury and a fully fit Brooks would be a dangerous player to have for such a
985. cheap price. Offensively, Bournemouth have been known to cause any team issues
986. and with the likes of Wilson, King and Fraser, Brooks will have endless
987. opportunity to create chances.

988.
989.
990.
991.
Youri
992. Tielemans joined Leicester on loan in January and in his 12 games, he
993. registered 8 assists and 3 goals. It’s astonishing that none of the top 6
994. swooped to try and sign this Belgian youngster, he dictated the game and showed
995. a level of maturity to his game that’s rare for a player that’s only 22 years
996. old. Leicester’s team as a whole has improved and with Brendan Rodgers at the helm,
997. they’re undoubtedly a team to keep an eye on as a whole, starting with
998. Tielemans.

999.
1000.
1001.
1002.

1003.
1004.
1005.
1006.
The last
1007. player in this 5 man midfield is Richarlison (8.0 million), the Brazilian
1008. always starts the season well, he scored 8 in his first 17 PL appearances last
1009. year and the season before that he scored all 5 of his goals in the first half
1010. of the campaign. Everton finished the season excellently and in the last 10
1011. games of the year they got the 4th most points in the league and it
1012. wouldn’t be a surprise to see them continue their immense progress. Richarlison
1013. is the main goal source for the side and is a necessary addition.

1014.
1015.
1016.
1017.
Honorable Mention:

1018.
1019.
1020.
1021.
Wilifred
1022. Zaha has been moved back to a midfielder for this years FPL and he’s also a
1023. bargain price at 7.0 million, there’s a lot of news surrounding him regarding
1024. his future at Palace and the club has also had a poor pre-season, but Zaha is a
1025. game changer and could be one to watch.

1026.
1027.
1028.
1029.
Mason Mount
1030. has been kept at Chelsea following a loan spell under Lampard at Derby and has
1031. been taking part in quite a lot of pre-season friendlies, unfortunately his
1032. price hasn’t been released at the time of writing but he should be around the
1033. 5-5.5 million mark and could be worth that cheap investment price.

1034.
1035.
1036.
1037.
Up Top

1038.
1039.
1040.
1041.
What would
1042. usually be the hard-hitting point earners has become a couple of reasonable
1043. price steady point gatherers. Alexander Lacazette (9.5 million) is the first of
1044. two strikers, the Arsenal forward scored 13 last year alongside 12 assists
1045. which seemed to only be the start of him finally settling into the PL style. The
1046. Frenchman tends to play as the main striker with Aubameyang playing in behind,
1047. therefore will get the main bulk of the chances, Arsenal match up with Spurs
1048. and Liverpool within their first 4 fixtures but after that there’s only one top
1049. 6 side in their 12 fixtures afterwards. Lacazette is a long-term option for
1050. sure.

1051.
1052.
1053.
1054.
Diogo Jota (6.5
1055. million) isn’t the obvious choice if you’re going for a Wolves forward with
1056. Raul Jimenez available at 7.5 million but Jota ended last season on a high. The
1057. Portuguese youngster really picked up towards the end of last season,
1058. registering 9 goals and 8 assists and has also looked dangerous in pre-season,
1059. bagging a couple against Newcastle in their semi-final of the PL Asian trophy
1060. which Wolves went on to win vs Man City. Wolves have a tough start to the
1061. season but from what we saw last year, they flourish under the pressure of a
1062. big game, so I’m willing to take a gamble here.

1063.
1064.
1065.
1066.
Honorable Mention:

1067.
1068.
1069.
1070.
Mason Greenwood (4.5 million) is an exceptional talent and he’s only 17 years old, he played his first 90 minutes in the PL in the last game of last season against Cardiff and has gone on to play a fair bit in pre-season. The English wonderkid has scored his last 2 appearances, one in a 4-0 win against Leeds and the other a decisive goal in a 1-0 win against Inter. There’s absolutely no guarantee he’ll start but he’s the lowest price available for a top 6 side, surely that’s’ too much to turn down given the form he’s in too.

1071.
1072.
1073.

1076.
1077.
1078.
Below is a
1079. photo of my starting squad for the first game of the season (subject to change,
1080. injuries etc..) it fits the 100.0 million budget you are given and looks strong
1081. across the board.

1082.
1083.

1126. debate whether Chelsea fans should be worried or excited about this season with
1127. the looming transfer ban, denying the Blues from strengthening their current
1128. squad. With the departure of Eden Hazard it’s to be expected that Chelsea may
1129. struggle without their little Belgian wizard.

1130.
1131.
1132.
1133.
Hazard has been Chelsea’s main man for the last 7 years and without the freedom to buy any players, it’s going to be down to the current squad to step up and fill the inevitable void. Callum Hudson-Odoi has been in rehabilitation showing excellent signs of progress after his ACL injury in April, the same applies to Ruben Loftus-Cheek who this week has been tweeting videos and photos of his exciting progress.

1142.
1143.
Frank
1144. Lampard’s arrival is the obvious talking point and also the centre of
1145. controversy, on one hand he’s a club legend and one of the most influential
1146. Chelsea players of all time but he’s also fresh on the managerial scene,
1147. finishing 6th with Derby in his first season; which isn’t a
1148. particularly memorable season for Derby. He’s made it clear that he knows the
1149. academy well and will be involving players throughout pre-season and during the
1150. season aswell which sets up a completely different season to what we’ve seen in
1151. previous years.

1156.
1157.
1158.
1159.
Lampard has
1160. also mentioned that he wants to restore Chelsea’s core by bringing former
1161. players who know and love the club back as a management team, Petr Cech has
1162. already returned as a technical director and Jody Morris is now assistant
1163. manager. Frank’s also announced plans of bringing back Didier Drogba and John
1164. Terry in future which is nothing less than incredible to hear for Chelsea fans.

1165.
1166.

1169.
1170.
1171.
1172.
The
1173. starting XI for the Blues will undoubtedly look very different this year with a
1174. slow integration of youth but with the squad provided for Frank, the formation
1175. should be similar to Sarri’s 4-3-3 from last season. Fortunately, the squad has
1176. exceptional depth due to years of having players out on loan which allows
1177. plenty of opportunity and competition for starting spots. Reece James has
1178. returned from being on loan at Wigan after an exceptional season where he even
1179. ended up as captain for a time and if you bear in mind that he’s only 19, that
1180. only takes a peek into his potential.

1181.
1182.
1183.
1184.
Kurt Zouma
1185. has always been a real physical specimen and looks ready for the big stage at
1186. Chelsea. The Frenchman has had season long tenures on loan at Stoke and Everton
1187. and has played at least 85% of the games at those clubs, giving him the regular
1188. experience in the Premier League. After seeing videos of him training and the
1189. general atmosphere surrounding him, it seems as if he may be quickly moved into
1190. the first team.

1191.
1192.
1193.
1194.
With
1195. exception of Diego Costa, Chelsea’s top goal scorer in all competitions hasn’t
1196. been a striker since 2012 and even then, the strikers only tend to be reaching
1197. around 20 goals which in comparison to other top teams in the Premier League is
1198. lower than expected. It’s a tough ask for any of the current Chelsea strikers
1199. to be reaching the heights of that but between Giroud, Batshuayi and Abraham
1200. they’ll have to find a way. It’s a tough to decipher who will be filling the
1201. vacant striker position to start the season but with Giroud’s domestic
1202. inconsistency the chance could be given to Michy Batshuayi. He scored 5 goals
1203. in his 11 appearances on loan at Crystal Palace last season and in comparison to
1204. Giroud’s 2 in 27, it seems like a straight forward decision.

1205.
1206.
1207.
1208.
Tammy Abraham has spent 2 of the last 3
1209. seasons on loan in the championship and has scored 49 goals in 81 appearances,
1210. the goal per game ratio is hugely impressive and he’s also only 21. The
1211. question is, could he hack it in the Premier League? There’s absolutely no
1212. reason why he shouldn’t be given the chance, especially with a new manager with
1213. a potentially new mentality and tactics.

1214.
1215.
1216.
1217.

1218.
1219.
1220.
1221.
This season
1222. is bound to be exciting one way or another and it’s also one that’ll be
1223. intended to build the club for the future. After sales of Hazard, Morata, Kalas
1224. and Aina there’s money to be spent next Summer and it’ll be very interesting to
1225. see what happens then with Lampard, if he’s still there, of course.

1226.
1227.
1228.
1229.
A top 6
1230. finish is the minimum expectation as per usual and should definitely be doable,
1231. but all pressure is surrounding Lampard, let’s sit back and see.
