43.
IBM Connections Cloud has issued an advisory/warning active February 2017 discontinuing iFrame support of Web Mail Cloud. See the below information

...beginning in February 2017 we will no longer support embedding Web Mail Cloud in iFrames on our clients sites. This includes presenting the login, messaging, or other components of the service (such as the address book or calendar) in an iFrame.

If your organization is currently embedding part or all of the way your users access Web Mail Cloud in an iFrame, please begin planning what steps you will need to take to present the service in it's own tab or window

So if you somehow used Web Mail Cloud from the IBM Connections Cloud and embedded the interface into apps or pagesy ou have to revisit that configuration.

 82.
Sengled makes a few LED bulbs with cool features. From CES 2017 we take a look at Pulse that puts together a JBL speaker via Bluetooth inside the LED bulbs. You can have a master and satellites connected for up to 8 bulbs in a full audio experience.

The Sengled Pulse fits into any standard bulb socket, but the shape of the lamp or fixture makes a big difference. They are made perfectly for can type light fixtures. They also work on lamps. However, due to their size and shape they will not fit into every type of ceiling fixture. We tested in both can lights and stand alone lamps. Placing the master bulb and satellite at least a meter apart gives the best sound results.

The light is 8 watts and 600 lumens of white/off-white. There is no color choices with this version. The JBL speakers are 13 watts max each and put out pretty decent sound. When you pair more than one you can get some decent stereo sound. We found that being in a can light fixture gave better sound than a stand alone lamp for sure. We talk about that in the video.

The application has a few flaws but the light worked well and you can stream without the app if required to the JBL speakers. Setup was quick. You start by paring the device via Bluetooth to the master bulb that is marked as master. Using the app allows brightness and volume controls. There are finer settings for tuning, remembering last light levels and more also found. You can add satellite speakers in here as well and control which ones are being used.

Remember that this Sengled Pulse bulb uses Bluetooth and not wifi so range is very important to the device you are streaming from. We only had one drop and that was with the master Sengled Pulse bulb in a can light and we got close to 25 feet away or so. We were able to successfully stream from audio on the device, webpages and videos and also streaming apps. The Sengled Pulse application has a menu option to open streaming apps for you that it finds on your phone or tablet.

The Sengled Pulse has a few accessories like a subwoofer and also a kit for connecting to non-Bluetooth devices like surround sound systems. You can find all of those on the Sengled.com website.

You can grab yours today on Amazon (affiliate link) at http://idonot.es/sengledamazon. Also if my reviews are helpful, even if not buying, click the Yes on Amazon and the thumbs up on YouTube. Please see all the product reviews here on the IdoNotes blog and subscribe to the SpikedStudio channel or product review playlist on YouTube .

 120.
Digital eye strain has been a concern of mine for years. Blue light streams from the monitors at me for a good six hours or more a day. Phonetic Computer Eyewear makes a myriad of glasses to help combat it while keeping up with style. I almost put up pictures of me actually in them but selfies are tough. I have a special coupon code for my readers at the end.

I honestly have tried and worn a competitor brand for many years. They were considered gaming and computer glasses and carry a visible yellow tint when looking at them. They are more function that style for sure. Along came Phonetic who sent me two of their over 65 (my count not theirs) different frames and styles. Of course each frame also came in colors. First let me talk about what computer eyewear is supposed to do

Computer eyewear in general is supposed to block a certain part of the color spectrum that is most harmful to your eyes for long periods. We are referring to the blue that monitors and phones emit. Natural blue light is not a problem to your eyes from everything I could find in researching this review. It is the artificial blue lights as referred to below:

Within the visible light spectrum, blue light has a shorter wavelength and higher energy, which is harder for our eyes. Because these waves are shorter, they appear to flicker more than longer, weaker wavelengths. Flickering is the flashing effect that happens when the LED backlight controller of a monitor adjusts the brightness levels during display refreshing. This causes eye fatigue without you even noticing.

I searched online and came across this easy to understand graphic on what all of these types of computer glasses do. They take that blue band of light and make it smaller depending on how much they block. I did a few tests looking at this image with no glasses, Phonetic Eyewear and the competitor I have had some a few years. It is amazing to see how much all them actually work at varying levels.

The bottom is what the band would look like if all the blue was blocked. Here are the results I received from my tests. Of course I see the full blue band with my naked eye in the top bar. It is pretty wide if you stare at it. I then wore the competitor glasses and the band became so thin you had to look hard to focus on it. I then held up and wore Phonetic Eyewear glasses. The blue band definitely got smaller, but not as small as the competitor. They led me to figure out more on how it worked and why. Let me cover the two pair Phonetic sent and then more on the specifications.

Phonetic Computer Eyewear let me choose one pair and picked one for me at my request. The first pair was the Phonetic Simplicity in silver. There was 3 lens shapes to choose from as well. I can tell you up front I love the look, and comfort in wearing them. They are so thin and light it is almost like not having them on at all.

The frames are super thin and light. The lenses have no frame and the bridge piece was not bulky. I could wear these all day in comfort and even with my headset over my ear for conference calls. Included below the eyewear is a neoprene sleeve case, cleaning cloth and warranty/information card.

The other pair I chose in gunmetal color was appropriately named Miller. These were a much hardier frame and weight and stood out to those that saw me wearing them. Both pair have the same protection level and coating we will talk about shortly.

You can see the thicker arms and half frame around the lenses. As someone that does not wear glasses daily I noticed these after a few hours. That is a personal choice. They were comfortable and I imagined I would get used to them in longer times the more I wear them. Just as anyone new to glasses would.

Where did all lead me? A chase down the Internet search hole. Phonetic Computer Eyewear states the following about their blocking:

Phonetic lenses block approximately 35% of the light in the violet/blue spectrum (380nm to 500nm) and more than 50% of the light from 380nm to 450nm, which is the portion of the violet/blue spectrum with the highest energy content

This makes perfect sense since the other manufacturer, the glasses that also have a yellow tint, claim they block more higher percentage. I would believe both vendors since it matches my non-scientific test results.

No matter the vendor I firmly believe that wearing computer glasses reduces the strain on my eyes. Phonetic Computer Eyewear look great, have a cool selection of frames and block enough of the blue light without having the yellow filter some of the other makers have. You can get Phonetic Computer Eyewear on Amazon or directly on their website and use the coupon below..

Special for my readers: If you order from their website I have a coupon code for you. Use NOTES10 for an immediate 10% off your order.

Then the full badge has pricing set with early bird and one day full passes. Whew!

Discover Connect is the cheapest at $89, with Experience Connect at $995, One Day passes at $895 and full badges starting at $1695 without alumni discounts.

See the IBM Connect 2017 registration page for more details on packages and to get registered.

A special thing to note is that you must have an IBM Id to even register for the conference.

 177.
GM has pushed the OnStar service ahead with the incorporation of IBM Watson into OnStar Go. GM is calling it the first cognitive mobility platform". A car that starts to think about your surroundings?

The idea is that OnStar Go will deliver personalized content and information via the screen above as it learns your behaviors and needs. It also takes into account your surroundings to show you things like gas and even pay from the car.

Combining OnStar’s industry leading vehicle connectivity and data capabilities with IBM Watson APIs will create experiences that allow drivers and passengers to achieve greater levels of efficiency and safety. These experiences could include avoiding traffic when you’re low on fuel, then activating a fuel pump and paying from the dash; ordering a cup of coffee on the go; or getting news and in-vehicle entertainment tailored to your personality and location in real time.

They have a few brands already on board for the launch in 2017 of OnStar Go such as ExxonMobile, Glympse, iHeartRadio and Mastercard. You can see the IBM press release right here for even more info
