22.
The IBM Collaboration Solutions Catalog has an official end date of December 15, 2017. This means you need to plan now to move your offerings to the Global Solutions Directory.

We want to thank you for allowing us to showcase your business solutions related to the IBM Collaboration Services portfolio!! It has been our honor to have hosted your entries in our IBM Collaboration Solutions Catalog for the past 7 years. We wanted to make you aware that all IBM Business Partner entries in the IBM Collaboration Solutions Catalog will be archived on December 15, 2017 and to communicate the strategic direction for continuing to showcase your solutions.

To ensure that your solutions continue to be highlighted in the best possible way, our strategic direction forward is to host all entries in the IBM PartnerWorld Global Services Directory (GSD). This will provide one stop shopping for all of IBM's customers and partners when looking for a solution. The Global Solutions Directory is the IBM repository of IBM Business Partner offering information. Business Partners use the directory to manage their solution offering information. The information that is submitted in the GSD feeds to a host of other ibm.com web sites

You can see the Global Solutions Catalog right here. Keep in mind it is massive and includes more than just things like the plug-ins I had inside the Collaboration Solutions Catalog.

There is an alternate place as well to list some solutons, which does drive me a bit crazy. I think one place with well defined filters is the best option so everyone can find you. Instead of us trying to keep up with multiple entries

Alternatively, you can apply to have your solutions highlighted in the IBM PartnerWorld Business Partner Application Showcase and apply for the "Ready for IBM Social Business" designation to differentiate your solution from others.

IBM Business Partner Application Showcase --> http://www-304.ibm.com/partnerworld/gsd/showcase.do?cd=SOCBUS

 41.
IBM has partnered with HCL Technologies to invest in a long-term roadmap for the IBM Domino product line and family. This means updates for Domino, Notes, Sametime, Verse, and more

.To show IBM’s level of commitment to stakeholders, the company is entering into a strategic partnership with HCL Technologies to begin delivering on the roadmap with the intent to release version 10 of the Domino portfolio next year. The goal of the partnership is to drive future development of the Domino product family, energize the offering, and protect clients’ investments.

This means to customers that the original fixpack featurepack and support only announcements are totally gone. IBM had previously promised small enhancements and bug fixes through more consistent featurepacks. They were staying away from delivering an entirely new version number for many reasons. One was speed of delivery, legal naming and all that stuff we geeks just say give us a 10. With this move and the below #domino2025 jam announcement, IBM has fully committed to enhancing the entire product family.

John Head put up the entire list of products (such as IBM Sametime, IBM Mail Support for Microsoft Outlook) being updated in this announcements on his blog posting. The list is extensive and IBM really needed a strategic partner to do development to make it happen. This is where HCL Technologies steps in. .HCL already has the same arrangement for the Rational product with IBM. That means that we will not see a delay as they work out a lot of particulars about the partnership. HCL go code, IBM go sell and product manage. IBM will still continue to manage the IBM Cloud side of the house.

IBM also announced the #domino2025 Jam which will have both in person and online feedback possibilities for customers and partners to give direct feedback. They have not listed when and where these events take place, but the RSVP is open for you you stay up to date. I am eager to see how many people provide constructive feedback and not consistently old requests that we never saw come to light.

As a component of the partnership, IBM and HCL are unveiling the Domino 2025 Jam to gather feedback and suggestions that will shape the future of this portfolio. Activities such as interactive face-to-face workshops in select cities worldwide, virtual events that drive broad participation, and user group events and “pop-up” meetings on-demand will be part of the Domino 2025 program.

So where does that leave the customers bouncing around what to do? IBM has very under-utilized partnerships with Box and Cisco at existing customer locations. Customers and partners have been wondering what the future holds for their Domino/Sametime/Connections infrastructure as IBM pushed more users to the cloud and as their own companies said find us solutions. IBM will hopefully (I am scared to use the word need) also have a massive push in marketing around this outside of the existing customer base.

We have heard the Domino is dead mantra for almost a decade. IBM always seemed to push ahead. Die hard customers and partners have shown dedication over the years. IBM has recognized this and said we will not only extend support, but heck even update the products again. IBM Domino 10 hopefully comes out so bright and shiny that it takes many customers by storm asking why they even considered looking at alternatives. A great cohesive strategy around the entire product line will seal the deal.

Join the #domino2025 jam. Provide some valuable feedback. Get on the beta when it comes out for any of the products you use or want to revisit. Let;s see the IBM investment in the ICS suite launches as brillianlty as many of us hope.

 60.
IBM has recently announced the IBM Domino Community Server edition (package?) to help you test non-production applications without needing a server license

IBM® Domino® Community Server for Non-Production will be a nonwarranted license option that enables your organization to test applications in a non-production environment. This offering will provide students, developers, and vendors with the capability to test their custom IBM Domino applications.

.One of the keywords above is that it is nonwarranted. I was able to find this pdf file on the IBM site that defines everything you need to know about the IBM International License Agreement for Non-Warranted Programs. But that really answers nothing Nonwarranted has a much deeper meaning. In order to get a bug properly noticed by IBM, it would need to be recreated in a production environment. Which makes no sense since the code should be exactly the same.

When installing the IBM Domino Community Server you will be using the Utility server option, This means that there is no user mailboxes allowed on the server.

I look to this as a fast and affordable way for companies, independents and even academics to test writing and working with Domino without much capital costs.

IBM announcement for the IBM Domino Community Server

IBM has also made some waves about Domino futures including IBM Applications on Cloud that I will blog about shortly.

 117.
IBM has released what's new for IBM Connections Cloud for July 2017. Here is some of the updates

Verse for iOS 9.4 performance, scalability, and security enhancements
Verse mobile for iOS just got better with enhancements to performance, scalability, security, and ease of use. This release contains general performance improvements for Inbox, Calendar, and Contacts views.

Connections: Get started fast with guided tours
New guided tours provide first time users and experiences users alike with a quick view of main features and actions on the Home Page, Communities, and Files. If you cancel out of a tour, you need to clear your browser cache of cookies to have them run again. The new tours replace the "Welcome Boxes".

Connections: More options for designing a Community home page
Now you can design modern Communities with new navigation, new layouts, and defined app styles.

Connections: Save time by copying a Community
When you want to create a new Community, it's easier to copy an existing community rather than creating one from scratch. Copy a Community to create a Community with the same layout and structure as the existing community. When you copy a Community, you get the title and description, access settings, and apps. What isn't copied are Community members, files, app content, and images.

Connections: Sync folders and files to your desktop
Files introduces My Drive, a repository where you can organize files and folders, whether you created them or they were shared with you. File or folders you add and edit in My Drive are automatically synchronized to your desktop so you always have the latest version of the content. Syncing is a way to automatically replicate changes to your content, whether you created it or whether it was shared with you, even when multiple people are acting on the content. You can access the files from your local desktop, or from another device, and feel confident that you always have the latest version.

Connections: Navigation bar responds to your window
Connections Cloud features a responsive navigation bar, which means the list of applications displayed will adjust to the width of your window. As you reduce the width of your window, applications that no longer fit on screen move to the More menu. As you enlarge your window, more applications become visible. If your window is very narrow, and no applications fit, they are all listed under one Apps menu.

See the previous IBM Connections Cloud enhancement posts right here (and previous SmartCloud naming ones) on IdoNotes

 136.
The Canon Pixma MG3620 Wireless Printer is a affordable and easy to use wireless printer. That is after you get it connected to the network in your home. I walk you through the app setup and some quick features in the review video above. As someone that does not print often, the times I do want to is when I am mobile.

Packaging
The printer comes well contained with the power cable and two ink cartridges. No cable for a direct PC connection is included (for those that want to use the Canon Pixma MG3620 that way. It is meant to be a total wireless solution for all your devices. The entire experience is driven by the Canon mobile app found free for both iOS and Android called Selphy. We will talk about the application more below.

The Printer Controls
Being that the Canon Pixma MG3620 is an under $50 (at time of writing) wireless printer, I did not expect a ton of features and controls on the physical printer itself. As you can see in the below image you have no LCD screen and a handful of buttons.
The one error light only notifies you there is some kind of issue. The application really helps show you error codes when you are trying to print.

You should carefully look at the enclosed help guides that come with the printer. They show how to use a combination of buttons to do things like reset the wireless. After a few readings I got a good feel for those. The rest was self explanatory. Turn it on, choose the type of paper size (or use the app) and pick color or b&w.

The Paper Loading
The front of the printer is where you have both the paper load and the output as you see in the image below. It does not hold a ton of paper so keep that in mind for larger print jobs. The main idea of this printer is for the mobile quick print of a document or photos onto 4x6" glossy. However, you cannot have both types of paper loaded and ready at once (like larger printers) so you need to know in advance you have what you need loaded before sending a remote print command. Otherwise your photos could come on expanded on full paper.

The back of the Canon Pixma MG3620 was easily opened for paper jams. I never had one occur in testing. I did not other reviewers online stating they sometimes had jams. I just made sure to fan out the paper and loaded only a handful of sheets. I was careful not to stuff the tray.

There is a slider I show in the video where you easily adjust the holder for the paper size. Make sure you get the glossy type for photos facing the correct way in the tray. The doors close easily to make this printer fit on tiny shelves.

The Scanner
This is pretty straight forward. It did a decent job scanning documents that had well defined text or images. It will scan up to a regular 8x10" piece of paper. Legal sized documents will not fit as I show in the image.

Wifi Setup
Wifi setup is the most painful part of this entire Canon Pixma MG3620 printer. It really should not be this hard. I spent 90% of the time getting it hooked up when I have tons (and I mean tons) of things on wifi at home. This ranks up with some of the more difficult. One of the problems is connecting to the printer from your device first, pushing the settings for the wifi to the printer and then having it all online. I constantly had to battle with making the lights blink a certain way to make sure it was in the mode to set up.

Remember above when I said learn the button controls from the help file? Well that is how I finally got it all working. A lot of clicks, pushes, app refreshes and I was online and working.

The Application
The application from Canon was easy to find and install. The look and feel is very basic but provides the necessary things you need for quick mobile printing. One thing I want t point out is that the application is not fancy or sleek. It is purely functional. There is a lot that can be added and it often throws you out to webpages on the printer or even their help site. Much of this I feel could look cleaner.

I cover a bit more on the application in the video. Some extra thoughts and wishes revolve around:

look and feel refresh

better ways to work with wifi setup

better links for solving error codes

easier navigation of the file system for selecting documents and pictures to print

Conclusion
For the price point the Canon Pixma MG3620 is a winner of a wireless printer. I set my expectations lower based on the cost and I had no disappointments in quality or function. The wifi setup may be tough for some users. Once you are past that the ease at which you can print has you wanting to start right away.

The print quality will not be as crisp as some more expensive printers. With a single color ink cartridge I did not expect that either. They will always get you on ink costs with any printer. This is no different. But doing the math, this will be cheaper for a quick print than using a service. For higher quality image printing you will need to stick with a store type solution.

Also if my reviews are helpful, even if not buying, click the Yes on Amazon and the thumbs up on YouTube. Please see all the product reviews here on the IdoNotes blog and subscribe to the SpikedStudio channel or product review playlist on YouTube . We also have a ton of smaller CES2017 review on the Spiked Studio blog site.

 155.
IBM has released what's new for IBM Connections Cloud for June 2017. Here is some of the updates

Verse

Verse: Preview attachments while composing a message

When you compose an email message, you need to be able to preview an attachment while in Draft mode so that you're confident you're sending the correct information. Now you can! Click the attachment to preview it in the Verse window. Click X to close it and return to composing your message.

Verse: Replied to and forwarded icons on messages

Now you have a clear and simple way for seeing which messages in the message list have been replied to (left arrow icon) and which messages have been forwarded (right arrow icon).

Verse for iOS 9.4: Performance, scalability, and security enhancements

Verse mobile for iOS just got better with enhancements to performance, scalability, and ease of use. This release contains general performance improvements for Inbox, Calendar, and Contacts views.

Ease of use and scalability enhancements include:

Notifications are now triggered on every mail

Option to sync all mail

Streamlined calendar interface

Sort contacts by first or last name

Tap to Facetime or tap to text from a contact record

Landscape view on iPhone

Integration with the IBM Connections mobile app when clicking on links

AppConfig standards based MDM support

One change to the way notifications works in Verse iOS 9.4 is the scope of notifications that you receive. Prior to version 9.4 you only received notifications from contacts who were explicitly added to your "Important to Me" list in the People tab. Starting with version 9.4, you'll receive notifications for all emails and calendar invitations that are sent to you. We made this change to be more consistent with the behavior of the Verse app in on-premise environments as well as to be consistent with other mail apps in the market. We intend to add the ability for you to revert to the previous behavior through a setting at a later point in time.

Verse for Android: Certificate-based authentication

Certificate-based authentication provides an easier and more secure login mechanism by allowing clients to authenticate with a certificate instead of a password. Verse for Android now supports three authentication options:

Traditional username/password

Certificate-only authentication

Certificate and username/password

Note: Certificate-based authentication is available only for on-premises customers. Administrators must generate and distribute client certificates for each user.

Connections

Connections: Navigation bar responds to your window

Connections Cloud features a responsive navigation bar, which means the list of applications displayed will adjust to the width of your window. 174.
IBM sent a very confusing email about DB2 on Cloud and renaming. I will just leave this here

On June 22 a number of products will be renamed in our Db2 family of products
That's right, Db2
"DB2 on Cloud" will be renamed "Db2 Hosted" and "dashDB for transactions" will be renamed "Db2 on Cloud.

Now notice the DB becomes Db in the new name. I am not sure if that was a typo or on purpose to differentiate the products. Either way taking a product name and swapping a new product into it already confused me.
